Yea, I interviewed with shopify and it was wild. They asked me to rewrite an entire Git history using git filter-repo to simulate a commit timeline that never happened, which is already insane. Then there was a branching problem where I had to create an orphan branch, cherry-pick commits from three different feature branches, and rebase them in lexicographic commit order by message. They also hit me with a conflict resolution scenario where I had to manually resolve a merge between two submodules while ensuring the .gitmodules file stayed consistent. Oh, and some history-rewriting stuff about splitting a monorepo into separate repositories while maintaining shared commit ancestry. Easily the hardest interview I’ve ever done.
