chat do i start right here @hot rapids ye like deadass follow this ?
We can’t help u if u cant tutorial
Bro u can’t do a for loop
Learn fundamentals first
how r u graduating next year if ur learning OOP rn?
accelerated degree
I'm ngl that is roadmap to crud monkey
You won't understand anything about core cs with that
You mean crud money? 🤑
Go to class
I told u
thats useless
Crud is first to get replaced with ai
mf said memorize code
It's over then
Learn cs fundamentals and learn oop
i need to study my self
Even shitty Devon can write. Acrud app
OK how do i learn fundamentals
Search it up on utube
end of chapter problems from my textbook should be solid yeah?
Watch a cs fundamentals youtube playlist
Brother in the time you've spent here galavanting you could've already learned the entirety of python control flow
Act learn those afterwards
im gonna do end of chapter problems is that good
Bro is cooked if they don’t have self learning skills at all 😭
That’s what I’m sayingggg
It’s a habit tbh if he didn’t have it before he won’t have it now
i know control flow
i just did a lab on stack implementation on an array
and the bracket match program
yk
Ngl I can’t remember the last time I used a stack irl
Go learn functions and recursion then
Go learn classes
??? I use it all the time
But yes learn functions and then recursion
@spiral kelp this shit would be good to get the fundamentals down pat yea?
this for example is the loops chapter
Sure
Just drill loops
I’m doing front end rn 😭
bro im lost 1 person saying do the roadmap the other saying learn fundmentals
valid parentheses all day 😎
yea? lot of practice
He said do roadmap bc we thought u knew fundamentals
full time?
If u can’t do fundamentals u can’t do act job
Intern rn
Except for lc 💀
@spiral kelp ok is this a good plan do chapter by chapter problems for fundamentalslike 1-18 skip some of the FX stuff
then start on JS?
and the projects?>
is this good
what did they ask u in the interview?
They gave me dp med and html css js styling oa which I botched both
Then got a behavioral and resume q
lmao i have no clue what to expect for a FE interview
Depends on conpany, some will ask react, some will ask DOM trivia, some will make you do vanilla js styling, some will make you do leetcode
They would make u make a website with req using any framework of ur choice or they choose for u
dawg is my plan good 😭
OA was react
any ideas on react questions?
Skip ch14/16 inclusive for both
write me a program that increments a counter on every button press
this was a real question I got in an interview once
Diff btwn server side and client side react
What is react dom
U got lucky asl
ironically it's actually pretty good because you need to understand hooks and states for react
gotta brush up on react concepts fml
ok so do 1-18 skip 14 and 16 now i know fundamentals then start with HTML CSS JS and react and springboot start going on the proejcts yes?
like to do and crud
This is nuts
Ig but u need do act understand it
whats act
Actually
acruallyb
@spiral kelp i think the end of chapter problems if i do them all myself will help me understand it yep
Get the general idea behind each concept but don’t spent too much time
then i can compare with the book code and solutions
U will learn more as u use it more
recruiter ignored my email when i asked him what to prep for the interview and just sent me the same email twice...
ok yep cuz things build on each other
Do like couple
They seemed bit mathy tho
hmmm
pick a random chapter of the 18
that u think is important
ill show u the questions rq
the later ones in each chapter are math i think early ones are less
13
I doubt they would ask u redux or context just brush up on state, effect and maybe reducers
heres most of them in this chapter
u think they are solid ? to nail the fundamentals
Y r there UML qs
cuz yea youre right the fundamentals are the most important tbh cuz every language more or less tneeds them
Just do a couple of them to get the idea and move on
the astericks means harder question
ok but this should be a good start yeah then dive into projects and JS?
and u said react + springboot yep
i need to get grinding
U still need to learn js, html and css before doing those
Do one or two uml diagrams imo
Important for system design
ok so chapters 1-18 (do some practice problems skip 14 and 16) then HTML CSS JS then Springboot/react then Projects
yes good plan?
He happy with banks he don’t need to worry ab SysDes 💀
end goal have a CRUD/Todo project made in like 3-4 months
or some other shit like a twitter clone if thats good idfk
yea good plan?
i mean the more knowledge the better yea? if not for the internship maybe after grad itll help soemwhere idk
Okok
thx g
crud app and todo can be done in like a month ye
i want 3-4 good projects
They won’t ask u sysdes unless ur interviewing for big tech and even barely for intern position
okok
Every interview I had last year was sys design
💀🙏
What company???
bro ur optimizing for a job u dont really have time to go deep into fundamentals
do a basic python run through
and then start making projects
Bro imagine he asks his interviewer what’s a class
i know a person that got their first internship
they were asked 3 questions
like
whats azure
whats agile
and something else i forgot
they said idk to 2 questions
and answered whats agile
got the job
so
its possible
but yea do basic python, do some oop but ull get that from class, and make as many projects as u can
He must’ve give them a hawk tuah afterwards
me? 💀 who
i swear 😭

@spiral kelp that roadmap.sh website good to follow once im done up to ch18 yep
for full stack
then just follow that to a T and grind yessir
that roadmap's resources r way too indepth for your timeframe i believe
watch youtube videos
yikes yea i only have from now till December
because apparently thats when u apply for summer 2025 internships
and i need a summer one 😭
or i graduate with 0 internships gg
Just finish fundamentals, learn basic css html js and then watch utube for crud app tutorial
y watch yt
☠️
Build a crud app along with the utube tut for crud app
cuz its faster than reading urself
unironically if you can delay your degree to 3 years I would
give yourself the opportunity to get another internship
watch someshit like this cuz u need it :
Learn Python programming from Harvard University. It dives more deeply into the design and implementation of web apps with Python, JavaScript, and SQL using frameworks like Django, React, and Bootstrap. Topics include database design, scalability, security, and user experience. You will learn how to write and use APIs, create interactive UIs, a...
im doing java
Bro where did u interview that gave u a sys des? For ng?
and then watch some shit like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0exw-9YJBo&list=PLTMNWTDdd5z_CtvbzG6r1f4hjnCaphPTV
In this video, we will create a RESTful API from scratch with Node.js, Express, MongoDB and Mongoose.

💖 Show Suppor...
cuz of some courses only being offered 1 sem a year i would need 3 conseructive internships or else im wasting time not employed and not finishing courses
wtf everyone says different things 😭
intern at [redacted]
time is ur main constraint
yep
this sounds harsh but I think it's necessary, if you graduate without the skills needed to land a job you will be unemployed. once you graduate it is 100x harder to get a job than an internship. its worth 'wasting time' if it means you're not setting up your future for failure
java will take u too long to learn i think
He needs to learn it still for springboot
i think worst case if i dont get a job right out of school ill just work in Civil Eng and keep applying and working on the side
on CS
like there's a reason most people take 4-6 years for their cs degree unless they have prior experience or are going into research (masters/PhD)
and eventually jump back into CS
Just delay graduation
he can learn it in class i dont think he has the skills to be able to learn on his own at this point
either u delay grad
the issue is that eventually will never happen
why
Oh
or 14 hour python video + 4 hours of some crud video + however much time it takes for u to understand the stuff in the videos
Ima spend 6 yrs in uni total?
getting a job as a new grad is infinitely times harder than an intern
I thought you were a kid
For internship
yea ig otta d o this
I'm graduating at 21 lmao
I think CS is really reliant on solving your own problems
You can't just ask Discord for everything
if the real Andre was here he couldve guided you
is an internship more important for you to actually learn things or to land a new grad job
Need to learn how to Google
dont say both
Job

Classes are more important for theory
No internship no job
Internships are more important to get more jobs
kk
If u have no internship u might as well go into retail
I agree
Same with projects
i have a civil eng degree lol ill go do that
samesies
worst case
Do u have Civ Eng internships
ye 1
Job
i got contacted by civil recruiters even but i had to tell em im in school cant work
civil is always easy to get jobs
always
Cs no internship = gender studies
But also you talk so anxiously for someone with a degree already
I know a number of ppl who did retail for like 5+ years after their degree because they didn't do any internships
Unironically
They couldn't find any new grad jobs
its because my CS degree is accelerated and i want to get into the CS field but i only have 1 opportunity for internships
It’s Canada always doing construction
It’s on them tbh u could maybe do masters then get internship
my coop was as a quality control technician
we worked on highway 401 for one proj
ripped out the asphalt
repaved
at night
U r the reason 401 is always packed
Doing construction on 401 should be death penalty
we only did during night
Wait so then what does a civil engineer actually do
wym
I assume you're not the labourer that dug out and repaved the asphalt
civil is so broad
Did you plan it
so i was a technican not even an engineer we basiaclly did tests on samples
Interesting
like to make sure the asphalt we are putting down
has the correct Air void % for ideal performance
Civil engineering seems so much more fulfilling than swe ngl
its amazing
Unless you're like building planes or working in healthcare
Just do that tbh no stress for lc, job apps, changing frameworks
i love civil eng so much
but idk not as much earning potential
you need 10+ years to make 100k
Can't you start a consultancy and bill the government millions
eh idk lol
For civil engineering consulting
It’s Canada Trudeau only spends money for corpos
i find civil engineering to be a fascinating science
Living along the coast and eating lobster all day 🙏
Exactly, create a civil engineering corporation
water/wasterwater , transportation, construciton, stuctural, environmental
theres so much
over the years ive always seen civil engs complaining on reddit wanting to switch and jump into CS
(although tbf all the happy civils arent complaining on reddit and like their job/pay lol)
Ngl at my last internship one of my coworkers was a civil engineer who switched into swe
i can literally within a week prolly get a civil eng new grad job for 60k USD which is 80k cad
cuz im from windsor
just work in michigan drive over and bnack each day
which isnt bad as a fall back
why don't you do that
if you think you'll be making 150k cad as a new grad in Canada you are severely mistaken
beacuse if i were to like plan out a pay progression graph over the next 20 years of my career in either field
CS woudl start off lower pay
but increase so much more ideally by job hopping
whereas civil wil barely move at all
I know tons of people with 20+ yoe in swe making 100k-120k
yikes
wow
that even makes my buddy in sarnia who just got his job for 59k look amazing lol
for civil
sorry?
Banks?
Bell pays u that lil?
what u guys think of civil
Civil engineering is a real job
although they always say the grass is greener on the other side 🤣
Writing words on a computer is not a real job
does it matter what a real job is if the job gives you enough money to escape the job rat race and have freedom in the form of time
idk
I mean
no right or wrong answer
maybe job satisfication is higher in civil? because of tangible results?
A lot of Money without purpose is worse than aa regular amount of money with purpose
do u think civils would feel much more happy wiuth job satisfaction than CS
oh yeah the remote aspect
thats a huge thing
you dont need licensing for CS
in Engineering we are somewhat bound geographically by a regulatory body etc
and lesser remote opportunties
Who else got hubspot oa
Not at all
Many CS people are not satisfied
This is actually a bad thing
hm yea competition ig
Because it means you compete with bootcampers
anyone can come in
hm reread what i said i was asking if they think civil is more happy with their job than CS
Yea idk man worst case civil is my safety net
and its a pretty damn good one
any economic downturn , recssion or whatever , civil still hires
no issues
Yea it means anyone in any corner of the world can do the same job
there'll def be some CS students who graduate unemployed and have to put fries in the bag at mcd 💀
And that’s what’s happening rn with all the outsourcing
yep double edged sword
you can work remotely anywhere in the world but then they can outsource your job for a fraction of the pay lol
so in a way its a double edged sword for civil too then
atleast u have security but you are kinda tied up to that country
No civil can’t be offshored lol
yeah
U can’t tho
Canadian tech jobs paying Canadian wages won’t allow you to be remote from anywhere in the world
how about US
You have to be in Canada the majority of the time
Quite rare
ah ok
whatcha think of civil vs cs?
just curious
civil would be perfect honestly if pay progression was better
CS scope is wayyyyy larger so it depends on what ur looking for
just like how the civil industry is slow and stagnant many times, not innovative, same with pay lol
Scope is larger but competition is a lot more too
Specifically cuz of the remote thing
anyone heard back from pinterest
why
We’re the outsource
why tf would you want canadian wages
🫵
oh
no one knows but do you guys think the US will keep outsourcing jobs in the future
and US pay will drop ? or
Looks really long
Can you tell me if it's over or not
are jobs outside of software engineering also stupidly saturated?
what about shopify (s tier)
It's cheaper for us companies to pay above market Canadian wages than it is to pay regular wages in the us
like worst case scenerio cant cs grads still get an analyst job at a decent company
you are a company?
still in the CS field u mean yea
you speak for all companies?
Yes
Some companies don’t care, rather pay you more and be in a hub city
idk any other besides those 2 lol
guys what is good canada ng tc
minimum wage
got offer for 25k
jk id say around 60-80k
sad if true
cuz thats like one of the only better known canadian tech companies IIRC
why is shopify hiring so many interns in 2025?
Will robinhood give free cdn trades too?
being in tech makes me want to die
u guys think this is just a cyclical time for the CS market and the doom and gloom will pass on over and be forgotten? or are there actualy bigger issues
no i dont think its going to get better anytime soon
infact i think it will get much worse
i mean that makes logical sense
#1 you start off with a lower salary and maybe no salary at all
but the trade off is, you're competing in a much more competitive market so the people who last will be better devs
Just don’t be weak
Yeah the standard for the average applicant is much higher now too
im a mickey dev
we're heading into a recession tho right? so its gonna get worse for us in the short term
yo guys is not uploading a cover letter an automatic rejection?
TBD
We’ve been in one
Everyone knows LC, Jake’s, hackathons, many projects
not at all
by definition we're still not in a recession i believe
On it boss
great, fucking hated that for finance
Yeah all the brain drain talent leaves Canada
Canada is subsidized education for US labour force
If they want people to stay here they gotta improve our god awful cities
and fix the housing crisis
do u guys think having a degree in civil eng would be good or bad on a resume when i have my cs degree and am potentially appyling for CS jobs out of school (not internships)
Seattle is literally scum of the earth
i could see employers viewing it both good or bad
its a good thing
Vancouver >>>>> Seattle any day
This is literally false
NYC is so cracked
You see many staff+ Eng positions being outsourced
maybe some where down the line it could help me
u graduated from civil end then went into cs?
And in other countries they can pay less than half of what they would pay in the US
India
eng*
yes getting a CS degree now that takes 16months
masters?
When they can’t get H1b, they work in Canada
Literally tons of them lmao
or accelerated bachelors?
??? What
its okay, no one does
They used to move to the US so the companies just kept all jobs in the US
LOL
meta vancouver office exists specifically for this lol
in hindsight electrical eng wouldve been more transferrable skills in a way and looked better in combination with CS rather than Civil Eng but anyway
👋
Every big tech office in Canada is for h1b failures
My friend is senior SWE at Google, first was at Sunnyvale, then moved to Toronto cuz of visa reasons, the chances of company sponsoring L1 is literally declining fast
Cuz they can just keep the talent in the same country
its okay bro ur on the right track
Why would they wanna move talent to a much more expensive country for no reason
yessir im trying
They want ppl in the offices
And will move to India at director position
Like no cap, I begged for Vancouver and they forced me to Us
They’re outsourcing HQs to India
which company?
Is the whole stereotype about USA/Canadian educated swes being the best not accurate anymore?
You said look at internal transfer rates
That’s literally declining for the past decade
idk but at my uni the best programmers are international students lmao
Those NA-China teams at tik tok and msft have pretty poor quality of life
Bad meeting times
You can find a balance
lmaoooo
The funniest part is that these companies are the biggest in the USA.... If all of these companies move hiring to India then people in the USA/Canada will be poorer on average, meaning they won't spend money on bs stuff which is exactly how tech companies make money. It hurts them in the long run
But investors love short term gains
For long term failures
Do u rlly think tech people are the ones majorly driving tech company revenue
it also gives a ton of leverage to india. if our swes are shit cuz we have no experience then india is just going to use that to their advantage when tech companeis become desperate again
The executives will stay over in the US lol
Obviously not but it'll have a butterfly effect
It’s what happened with manufacturing
we do a great job at marketing their services and products
Only C-suite and a bit lower than that will stay over in the US
Prob some principle Eng, very senior Eng people
Yep, and why would the smartest people continue improving companies internationally when they can start building up their own companies? (like tata, witch etc)
thats why we need laws that limit the amount of work that a company can outsource
train ur local talent
He is not going to do that, he’s decided he will move to India after he gets a promo to staff
Because of heavy core outsourcing to India
Also Google would MUCH rather he do that
Than move back to the US
why?
Way cheaper for them lol
Save money
oh right
They save an immediate 50% or so
google pays by location even if they start off at US? like for example if he initially got hired for US and had to relocate to india they'll dump his comp?
But also this is kinda backfiring cause aren't salaries in Bengaluru really quickly approaching salaries in Canada?
Yea
thats fucked
Since it's getting so competitive there
He got a 60-ish percent drop for the SAME role when he had to relocate to Toronto
From Sunnyvale
but i guess it makes sense
And here’s the thing
what
damn
Bro is on the tensorflow team
He works on gVisor
So there’s 0 change to what he does lmao
Just 60 percent pay cut
can you tell him to tell the grpc team to please make tools that don't segfault 🙏
does the opposite also apply tho? like if he chooses to go back to US and they choose to keep him on will his comp get bumped back up?
Yes
well i guess thats fair then
But they might not approve that move lol
I've heard at zon they only do that for like l6+
so you need to be relatively senior
They wont approve the move
Internal transfers from an offshored office to the US are rlly rare
Now
They used to be very common
What if ur L7 moved to India
so when do you think we're going to get jobs again? 🙃
Do US companies hire easily under a TN visa assuming you’re a good applicant or nah
Some top tier companies do
never
odds r they wont
How about the mid tier ?
Nope
And below
Very rare
😦
I mean if ur a genius SWE then sure
TN seems pretty common, a lot of new grads working in US with it from my school
Not really
But I’m just saying from my school in general, lots of TN
Is it easy to get into the automotive companies as a SWE or was it before atleast
Like ford
its not easy to get into any company at the moment
Loo
Kekw
Loo is acc an exception
I can tell u prob like < 5 percent of companies do TN
Ppl just look at some of top ones which almost always do TN
wow
I thought Indian devs got Pennies in comparison that’s why US jobs were being outsourced there, no?
Bro pulled out the rupees 😭
bro im moving to india
wtf
Bruh
if that info is true then 100% they do
Nah Indian top tech pays rlly well, has started to pay rlly well
At all levels?
cost of living is pretty much free in india
That’s literally the reason ppl don’t move as much anymore to the US
And companies can just outsource
bro lets go saturate tf out of india
Kekw
LOL
You need to be competitive programming god to do India hiring pipeline
At the new grad or mid level do they get low pay
Indian SWEs next gonna be replaced by Vietnamese
LOOOOOOL
Probs gonna be Brazil
anyone heard back from shopify after references?
I heard someone from my uni saying yesterday around 8pm they got the offer
if they asked u for references u got the job unless ur reference fucked u over
u should be chilling give it some time
alright
anyone know how much time they give to accept?
and can i move this from winter to summer lmao
Some sde1 can reach $200k here
probably
But rare af
not sure
they're hiring 1000 interns
also they asked u for 2 references right?
Wtf
if they say they can't move that would be so sad
yeah
1000? For winter ?
i think ur odds r good
no 2025
1 manager 1 coworker?
2025
When do summer apps open
Yeah
What
u missed it
Really
Not even close lol
yea
yes but i dont think that matters. i submitted 3 just so that i'd meet their deadline
uh
ahh i see
Did you have a previous internship
i saw a very wide range like anywhere from 26 - 52 an hour
I’m cooked
@safe light literally show me just one data point where that’s true lmfao
I need my first
what year r u?
2nd sem /5 for an accelerated degree
that's crazy. so they're open to negotiating ig?
for you yea, u seem like a catch
Summer only time I can intern cuz courses all online
masters student ?
Prob Less than 1 percent of SWE entry level jobs pay 195k CAD in MTL LMFAO
nice nice
summer has the most jobs so u should be fine
no
it has the most applicants but also the most jobs
in my experience fall is the hardest

I love Canada, US sucks you can get shot
yeah less than .1% even
cuz thats the only term i couldnt land something lol
Being dead is 0 TC
I want anything I’d be over the moon with a big bank offer
That’s prob in USD
banks r hard to get especially for first internship
just be happy with anything for ur first
Rip
bank is doable for like ur 2nd one
Yeah if you convert that to cad probs looks right
1st one if ur lucky
Google Canada is pretty low I think
my brother landed a bank for his 3rd internship
For the first internship is there anything kinda half well known that’s easy ish to get too? I mean I shouldn’t be picky I don’t have a single project on many GitHub because I can’t even make a project yet
Anywhere in Canada
And also i think I’ve seen ppl mention it before in this server
nope
Nothing is easy to get nowadays dawg
also u can def make a project
ur overestimating how hard it is to make a project
Even school clubs are competitive af
Wtf lol
Can you explain that in a nutshell I was kinda confused does that go on a resume
Yeah, it’s like a mini internship
I don’t wanna make it big
wdym?
Atleast not that big with an app or whatever with users
I guess
I just don’t know anything tho
I can’t even make a tic tac toe rn best I can do is a command line calculator proj with the 4 basic operations lol
Is that easy to get atleast lol
Not easy, you gotta have projects
Is it actually not too hard to go from the fundamentals of a language to making smth like a CRUD app
Dude this is not an easy career nowadays
You gotta be ahead of your peers
And do a lot of self learning
I’ve told you about the full stack road map alr
You could’ve finished parts of it alr
Yeah the issue with that is idk the fundamentals yet
I should do that first yea
For a language Java in my case
I was thinking do chapter problems for fundamentals then do the roadmap is that good @hot rapids
I’m in a 2nd accelerated degree 2nd sem technically /5
Me? Who what
I personally think CS fundamentals not that good as your first focus, honestly just start watching a tutorial or doing a road map, in my opinion
You don’t need to learn algos from your textbook
Best advice is to just get started tinkering
Not even algos I mean like hashmaps fileio loops methods classes etc
Textbook isn’t tinkering imo
This is my 5th year in school or else I would delay my grad and what not
Ur telling him to start working on projects when he has trouble with for loop
And while loop
Don’t get me started on the do while and the others
Yeah so how do I learn to code
💀💀💀
Officially enrolled this fall but 1 semester I did in my previous degree
Technically 2nd
I still don’t think the textbook is an effective way to learn how to code
Just watch a YouTube video 😭
Intro course was C I understood the even and odd stuff and some recursion stuff
Yeah
💀💀💀💀💀
Yeah I stopped doing that
Go back to Civ
Canada needs more constructions go back to mixing concretes
The technicians do that not us engineers
dont get overwhelmed
just start working on stuff
I’m a civil engineer
and eventually things will start making sense
we finally have a real engineer amongst us
No
Problem is, he said his only internship slot is the coming summer
Which is why I said to start doing projects
Alongside courses
Nah although there’s many in civil who wanna get into CS it seems
now that u mention it i think i remember reading that post too
I’ve read dozens of those posts
Watch a 30 min cs fund utube video and hope for best
I understand for loops I’m jk
I even understand the odd and even stuff yk
/2== 0 and the % 10 for last digit
Is that some progress
yea it is
I’m sure you can solve some basic LC with that
everyones starts there
%2
cracked
just put the bags in the fry lil bro
You gotta be trolling us man 😭
u shouldnt even be allowed to change degree if u havent gone through the basics
idk how it is in us
It’s not a change
Cracked
So uh guys now that we have established my lack of programming fundamentals
And largely inability to begin with projects
Where do I start
Need honest advice
Not the McD part
💀
McDonald’s
code a compiler
u can either start at smth lilke roadmap.sh or wait for openAI o2 to release so that SWE is no longer a thing
I’ll run back to civil Eng then
Take my 80k cad 0YOE and call it a day
I gotta be able to make a CRUD project or similar by December
So I can apply for summer 2025 internships anywhere in Canada
You need 3-4 of those by Dec 😭
True true
use nested for loops
If you’re targeting summer
try to write your algos in n factorial complexity
always use object as return type
There you go, you know enough to start roadmap sh
Why are you lying about not knowing loops 😭
try to make your code less readable by humans and more readable by computers so there are good bugs in the code
I just mean loops can be kinda tricky in all honestly like the asterisk patterns and sometimes it’s not simply i++ yk
I’m just not familiar with all that
The simple stuff like i=0; i<n; i++ i know
W
Is that W
Yes
@hot rapids is my case looking better than before
now apply that knowledge to writing ur own compiler ( dont use google or AI )
Nah I’m putting the fries in the bag
Less compeition for us, good 👍
Normal for classes and objects and everything to be confusing ye
New grad I want50-60 CAD
5 years in I want 120-150 that’s when I wanna get into a bigger tech company if I can I’ll grind my ass off if I have to, but yea
10 years idk 200
Oh yeah I mean USD for the 5+ years
But new grad 50-60k cad
I live in Windsor I border the US
I wanna work in Michigan
Depends if they wanna gimme a TN or not
@safe light don’t give the advice based off my pay just give advice with this in mind. I have from now till December to be able to make 3-4 solid projects to land a summer 25 internship
What do I do now
average swe experience in detroit 💻 🔫 💥 🛡️
why tf u wanna work in michigan out of all of US 😭
So I can drive home everyday
It’s not
You have to have a residence in the state for tax reasons
No you dont if you have a TN
many people I know drive over the border everyday from Windsor work in Michigan drive back home
Residing in Windsor
I think you can drive home but don’t you need a Us address?
so if you live in canada and get a USD salary..
oh nice thats probably when ill graduate too
Noice
@safe light do you have that advice by chance
I need to improve I’m a mickey dev rn
I can’t even say dev

I can’t worry about too long from now I just need to know what to do from now till December when it’s time to apply for summer internships
dont be so hard on urself, if u finished an eng degree then ur obviously competent. itll take time but eventually things that sound like gibberish rn will start to make sense. dont try to rush it, people at ur age will already have years of experience, ur just getting started so theres gonna be an adjustment period.
start working on ur portfolio
so u can build ur resume and have talking points during ur interviews
Do I just start with any project and build up to CRUD ?
once u get that first internship ur second will be much easier and it will build off eachother
yea sure, the most important part is just getting started with anything
you dont need the most optimal plan
just get some momentum by doing something
do you go to UW?
Please don’t tell me that’s Waterloo
They need the most optimal plan because his one and only internship is summer 2025
i mean windsor
Yes
^^^^^^^^^
I need a perfect plan
That’s why I’ve been giving them optimal shit
That a mickey dev can follow
And not steady plans
Why ask ?
yea thats fair but u can also just take a term off if needed and do an internship during another term right?
or does ur program not work like that
dont you have career fair or other networking oppertunities there?
Uh last I heard our coop department burnt bridges acording to someone on Reddit
In CS
lmfao
darn
And our university website says we have connections in big companies
And they deadass say
Like IBM and BlackBerry

ibm and blackberry r elite
lol good one
u dont think so?
ibm yes, blackberry qnx is dogshit
Sounds good I’ll just DM ty and good luck
why is blackberry bad?
Bad leadership, seniors who don’t give a fck
no i didnt
Abusuve lowkey
Stock price isn’t always indicative of company performance
But in this case I think it is

Which one, wasn’t there two that came out close together 😭
dont you think blackberry would be a good stepping stone tho especially for an internship?
It would be amazing
well known company and shows that ur competent to future employers
You can bro, lots of ppl in my program do
And also I can’t really take a term off because it messes up my entire sequencing my only option would be the summer since all my courses are online
No it’s cuz of my degree I’m not allowed to apply even
have you tried cold messageing people on linkedin, not recruiters (they barely response) but more so seniors/engineering managers? Try this to like 5-6 people on linkedin all the companies you wanna work at, I guarantee you'll at least get 1 interview
They are often willing to hear out and offer interviews if they are hiring. Expicially for internships (Dont expect the same for new grad or entry level)
Since it’s not the 4 year degree and it’s accelerated
I don’t have a single project made so I gotta do that first
I can’t make a tic tac toe or hangman program rn
@hot rapids full stack roadmap my best bet?
from a friend worked that worked there
I’ve heard the same from lots of ppl
Do this in PARALLEL, whats the worst that can happen?
oh yea odinproject is fire
2 years ago I tried TOP made the recipe project lol and just stopped
Yeah
I wish I stuck with it
ok boys so deadass if i just grind out TOP am i looking in good shape
should i do TOP or CS50
if my goal is to be able to have 3 solid projects like a CRUD app and 2 other things
by December
Hello i dont even know what OOP is and im learning java in school i think im not ready for that yet
I don’t see why not man
welp
BRO IM TRYING TO HELP THIS GUY AND HE IS REFUSING
😭
bro needs to change his whole midset..
anyone do robinhood ng final?
have recruiter call tomorrow
Bro it's actually just get to building bro
You don
IS THE 2ND POINT TRUE CHAT?
oh shit I just had mine today
You don't need to be at a certain comptency level to do anything just get started
What did they ask?
is it like the google prep call or does it actually impact me moving on?
Talking about past experience
felt pretty casual, not sure if it impacts too much? Have not done google prep call so idk
ah okay
Anything else I should prepare for bro?
What did they ask during call?
assuming they may ask about stuff on your resume
so be ready to answer those?
Ah I see thank you!
Ye
kk whatcha got
i just need to get started lmao with whatever i do tbh
think thats the biggest thing
i wanna end up in FAANG but ik it will take me a few years longer than most potentially even i even get there
why? cant i just go to something like a bank or like legacy auto and slowly scale up yk
how about the self taught mickey devs who used to get in
bruh wtf
😔
ok look but if this is my plan do u think its still fine like
starting at some smaller company as a new grad local to the city
then something like a Ford or GM
then slowly into more fortune 500 companies
like slowly yk
summer is all i can do cuz its online for me , my degree is weird cuz accelerated
but as for the actual portfolio and resume how would you go about that
is it a rejection if Shopify says they're gonna get back to you in a week after the life story lmao
yea idk
@safe light i DMd if u wanna check
That's what my interviewer said and I got back in 1 day
I think it depends if ur interviewer messes with u or nah
yea it depends on the interviewer, mine said 24-48 hrs
wtf is life story
do u just tell them about ur life
yo anyone here got the offer for shopify yet
@glad echo did
Is that a confirmation or not
Jahsen?
Jansen Huang?
i miss jahseh
do rbc even let you reschedule internships?
Is RBC superior to all the other banks?
It seems pretty big and has a lot of spots ig
Has anyone done the Freecodecamp curriculum to learn programming? even if it was a while ago. Just wondering if its good to follow and do
nah
I've done it
It's fine
good to learn ?
They have capstone projects
