So many software based companies in Canada just milk SR&ED credits for all they're worth because it's a lower threshold than finding real product-market fit and making the numbers work in a country with a small population without language barriers or such helping (as they would in some of the comparison countries people mentioned).

The politicians pitch Canada as a cheaper source of educated labour etc., too, and few of them really understand innovation, startups, etc.

It's easier to work remotely with/for US companies and just perpetuate the housing bubble than it is to actually make something innovative or really valuable here.

I don't like that situation at all but that's how I see it.
