uoft is much better for research. i am an undergrad at uoft and I am glad I chose uoft over waterloo. great for research, good for internships (i think i got interviews just because of the name). Not as good as waterloo's program but I would say it's still not difficult to get internships even without ASIP/PEY. As for masters, UofT is way better if you want to do research. For employment in the industry after masters, I would say uoft is at least as good as waterloo

but yeah, as someone said above, i don't think you should do masters if you think you would be more employable. Sure, it helps for fields like ML, but it's not necessary for swe

it's cheaper for international students, yes. I am not sure if it's common for people to do masters for PR though. I suppose if you do really good in grad school, than you will certainly become more employable (also it gives you more time to strengthen your resume). But again, you don't need to do masters if you wish to do swe; you could very well improve your resume without a masters, and in the meantime try to find openings in Canada/US

if you really want to do masters, i would recommend uoft/mcgill/alberta in canada or good us schools

I've heard people say that PEY helped them a lot in their job search. but for many, the 12-16 month internship is just not worth it. UofT in itself is a pretty big name for internships, or so I've found

A career plan would be spend 5-10 years in the US to kickstart the career and decide whether to move back to Canada or not. If you can't go to the US, work for top-tier US companies in Canada. Many Canadian startups can't match top-tier US companies' momentum. I work/worked for both US and Canadian companies and noticed the difference in attitude, compensation and velocity.
Let's see how the remote work trend plays out. We may not need to move to the Bay Area to experience the top-tier tech companies moving forward. (🤫 The Americans have figured out how little they can pay us btw.)
