I read in the i9 form that i94 should have same name as my passport but my i94 has just my first name instead of having my father's name attached at the end of my first name. I'm talking about if you do have a visa. Most internationals are on an F-1 visa which expires upon graduation unless you extend with with an OPT (1 year) or STEM OPT(3 years). After that, either your company has to sponsor you or you gotta get an H1B visa or some other work visa to continue working in the US. Thus, you put "yes" when companies ask if you will need sponsorship in the future. Sadly, some companies filter out candidates who put "yes" so you can put "no" if you want but if they do a background check and find out you lied then you may be screwed but I haven't seen or heard of that happening to anyone.

Why would it affect it? Me and my friend applied for a green card lottery while being in the US for 3 years in a row while being in F1 status. We didn't win, however...

i've read conflicting opinions. some say that being on a F-1, non-immigrant visa means you have no intent to immigrate to the US. basically, study and gtfo.

so if you win this lottery and suddenly they see that this "non-immigrant" is trying to immigrate by asking for adjustment of status to green card LPR, they might nullify your visa

aka kick you out of uni

nonetheless, since the DV program just opened, i will be speaking to an immigration attorney on Monday just so i can be extra safe

if it's not allowed, what i would probably do is apply in October of your senior year. if by the grace of god you manage to win it in May, then instead of going onto OPT/CPT extension when you graduate, you can immediately become LPR and don't even need to worry about non-immigrant nonsense because you're no longer F-1 / student
