yeah
i think apple pays hourly for juniors which is a bit weird
not sure tbh
it looks like ict3 is 110k+
Well this guy's got 1 yoe so probably a bit lower for us
You're getting Amazon and apple ez
Ive read some rumors somewhere that amazon might be starting to hire again soon
Lmaoo
Samee
I remember back in October feeling good about my Amazon application (i even applied with a friend referral)
And then boom
Ghosted
Ngl referrals work kinda wierd in some companies
Nothing has ruined my self confidence in lc more than that interview lol
LC hard?
Mine were medium i would say
It was a medium dp, at that point I had not learned dp lol
I can relate to that, but bit manipulation in atlassian onsites
Yap, can relate
Did not know about Bloomberg’s list
then I entered this server
imagine my surprise when I found my question on Leetcode xD
new grad or intern?
applied some weeks ago as well
got nothing
but Spotify is weird because they removed every full time job opening and posted only internships
they had like 100 full time jobs
so at this point I don’t know if they are doing internships announcements just for image
Gotta fill the gaps somehow lmao
like Amazon who keeps posting job openings on LinkedIn even though they have tens on the whitelist
Do you guys know sth bout Bloomberg London? maybe from friends
I’ve been waiting for 3 weeks already to have my sys design round scheduled yet got nothing
🥲
Dunno anyone who's interviewed after that
actually I don’t know
that was in US as far as I know
in dec they still had plenty of openings
for London I mean
why wouldn’t my recruiter tell me this then
I’ve been spamming with 2 mails/week for the last 3 weeks xD
every time she answered my mails, telling me they are busy atm and will schedule my interview in the near future
intern
one. told them about that… but didn’t help that much
it’s not a crazy offer tho
Softwire
Ya i don't think they will expedite unless it's a competitive offer against theirs
Lmao
Jp is quite competitive with bb as well kinda
Saw some people announce their ng offers on linkedin yesterday, I think it's doomed
Andninterns have been doing it for a while
It's like 10k less
Jpmc is 64k tc and bb is 70-80k
u need to stop comparing everything to the us
literally every country is shit for pay compared to them
80k puts you in the top 5%
barely any jobs there
only big tech ya
the pay isn't that great compared to col unless you go to google
canada is quite similar to uk
they have high numbers cause their currency is shit lol
but when u convert its pretty similar
Toronto is fucking expensive too
Dublin has high rents as well
I was close to an offer there. Been struggling to find something there.
Nope
Dublin is wild
I thought we had it rough in the uk until I saw dublin's housing lol
Dry ass inbox for like 3 weeks
Literally nothing except oa's

I did it a while back and never got a response
I heard their onsite is like 5 hours
It's also been over 2 weeks since my publicis sapient sys design now
Still radio silence

Lol
They actually took 6 days to respond to my app
they're not too good at sticking to their deadlines
Yeah me neither
Someone in cscd eu got an email saying they're running late
For Interns?
new grad
how does 55k + 6k equals to 64k?
you said theres a 4k performance bonus (that adds up to 65k i cant maths)
Does JP have benefits?
you get free dental checks every year
and some other nice benefits
Btw UK folks, how good/bad is the private medical system compared to NHS?
i think jp helps with that as well
better for minor things
private hospitals just ship you off to the nhs for anything major
i cant remember from internship but i heard of something around helping you with private healthcare bla bla
Just like in Spain then😂😂
not in the backwards country we call england
for under 26 yeah
for dental??
damn
not for international >:)
you guys are the ones paying for scottish and eu students' tuition lmfao
yeah im losing so much money on you guys ffs
depends on the uni and course but generally 25-50k a year for internationals
9k for uk students
Why would intl students go to uk. Makes no sense. No job market for intl really
Na eu laws i think go along like you need to prove intl student is better than 75 percent of eu population
Plus they pay peanuts
Not true at all, UK is not in the EU and that rule doesn't apply to every country there anyway
And the pay is arguably the best outside of NA and switzerland
Sponsoring is very easy, all the employer has to do is prove the job satisfies the visa requirements and they can sponsor
that was before brexit, but brexit happened, so intl are only competing with uk people or eu people with pre-settle status
i dont think anyone has the settled status rn
I've chosen London over NYC
I wanna see the culture there
See how is it like and might move later
I get it if you only care about tc you should definitely go to the us but there are other factors to be looked at imo
mission complete
we convinced this guy to come get stuck in london while we all fuck off to the us in 2 years
😎

seems like palantir nyc may have a space for me now

the email is actually "i'm terribly sorry for the delay" we will get back to you next week
just doxed meself
oops
there we go
this preview was evil
“Hope you’re having a good week so far, because we’re gonna ruin it”
Emailed Citi and they yet again delayed when they'll share an update
Results were supposed to be shared in Nov now its March
Grad or Intern?
Both
I was about to write same😅
I guess they reached headcount
Yeah, they just had the onboarding call thing yesterday
I also applied to the Dublin location, hopefully they have not reached HC over there. I just need any job at this point😭
It's definitely getting a bit scary lol
what was your first choice?
London
ahh rip ...
i dont think they send out separate rejection emails for the other locations
Dublin would be thru another posting wouldn't it
Cause the posting title is swe program (bournemouth Glasgow london)
I still have the Dublin application under review
i didnt get a separate rejection email last time
and people in the call yesterday was everyone in uk and ireland
Rip
Ahh. I should forget about it then
they sent me 2 rejection emails just to rub it in
and I only applied to 1 location lol
Rip bro
they are really competitive for new grad
it might depends when you applied as well
cause a lot of people accepted the return offer as backup, then a lot of companies didnt open for the new grads, so everyone kept their jp offer
I don’t think so. Kinda feels like they priotize certain candidates
so they ended up considering the first ones who applied in aug when they opened up
like who?
Like return interns, Hackathon participants or Campus event attendees etc
The rest of us who are outside those are def pushed back
This is what I think
did you apply for the hackathon separately?
hackathon is a separate hiring track but yea they prioritise those
I have never applied to their hackathon
I want to ask if someone has an idea if Bloomberg allows someone to change location after accepting offer at a separate location. Suppose I accepted an offer for Frankfurt and I want the London office. Is it possible?

😅 I am just imagining the scenario if I was in that situation
I just want to confirm
for JP you can only change your location after 1 year
i would assume they would have some kind of restrictions as well
got an offer at Bloomberg? 😮
I wish😭
I have phone interview coming up though
ohh
I think we’ve talked about that
xD
I was the one waiting for the final technical round
3 weeks and they couldn’t schedule my interview
Has anybody applied for GSA Capital and Booking? I have ACed the coding test for both of them but was rejected.
I want to know who could be accepted by trading companies, like DRW, GSA Capital, and Citadel
i got an interview at optiver and passed resume screen at citadel (I think they screen before oa?)
Rejected from drw tho, and haven't done gsa
citadel gives easily OAs
they reject afterwards
oh. you passed Optiver’s OA 😮 good job
How do you prepare for behavior questions?
The chatGPT, I think, is great
Got it !!!
I just research the company a lot
Sooorry, bro
was the one where you need to record the answers?
Amazing win rate we have for the London office here guys, keep it up
What're we at, 0/6?
I'm actually john p morgan

what is the max you can get at a codesignal
did like 849 at Databricks
still got rejected
and I read 849 it’s pretty good if I am not wrong
850
thx
so that was indeed good
damn
at least I can share with other companies that require Codesignal
849 is the highest possible
"Scores for the General Coding
Framework range between 600-849. "
still not impressive for Databricks lol
prob looked again at CV and did not like it
Yea, they check resume after
but the OA was not automate tho
they look before and after
or the before goes just through some ATS
I think this is what happens
THE ANSWER IS NO
Bro I was told I'd hear back this week from 3 companies
I heard back from 0
Except publicis sapient I guess
Yeah got my reject yesterday

Probably got rejected cause they prefer penultimate year students
My uni is rank 4 and I have all my maths courses on my cv

But its ok I'm getting polyai
(The better ai)
We just keep moving the goal posts to cope that we're not rejected
Lol
We are never getting a job

linkedin has resorted to emailing me about jobs I already applied to
oh boy i am so excited to learn about Hunter Bond job number 76
L
This was another empty day, haven't progressed in an app in weeks

Wtf lol
they better pay well
I did Cognizant oa today and got absolutely fucked
Mfs were asking me spring questions
Any recent grad working from Orlando, please dm
whats the time frame for summer internships in australia? usually like late dec - feb right ?
spring as in Java Spring?
Yeah
What's it like working at a company outside the US? is it worth it?
depends on the country but its basically the same but with more worker's rights, more vacation days and less money
if you just want money then it's not worth it, just stay in america
not getting offers rn so considering expanding my scope
most of the big companies are done or nearly done with hiring so it might be hard to find a sponsor but you can try
university of bath, i heard it's quite good despite being on the lower ranking
!avatar @tidal nymph
took nearly 4 weeks just to reject me
bruh moment
Silly question but how much money does someone need for food if you don’t want to cook and always eat out/order in in zone 1/2 (doesn’t have to be £££)
Will 30£ per dinner suffice?
Edit: London
Yes
Can you recommend few spot where you can eat out for 30£ ? I know this might sound crazy but when I googled I mostly saw super expensive places where a single dish cost 40£
£30 is a little high for takeaways but if you're going to a proper restaurant every day it'll likely be more than that
The only one I saw with <= 30£ was dishoom
Ok ok thx!
I dont go to restaurants that often but if you're getting delivery then you can just sort by price on uber eats or whatever
£30 will definitely be enough for a starter, main and side as long as you're not going to expensive places
For delivery
Chinatown is great, lots of cheap food
3 course sounds really fancy. Was more thinking about a main and a cola 😅
you could get that for less than £10
Do they have open until 7pm or so?
borough market has really good mushroom risotto
Sounds nice!
And how is pub food? like does it taste good and is affordable?
Never ate at a pub. Only payed crazy money for drinks 🥲
Tastes decent and is usually pretty cheap
Bunsik is good but that's more of a lunch thing
And there are lots of good bakeries in chinatown which I highly recommend trying
Was thinking <= 30£ per day for dinner (only dinner, no breakfast/lunch) Only have an upper bound
Would like to eat in zone 1/2 so I don’t have to rush around city after work 😂
I dont actually live in london, I've just been there a few times recently for interviews, so I don't have many recommendations but I never had any trouble finding food for under £10
That’s good to hear! I only have been there as a tourist and ofc interviews. So pretty much no reference points
are you planning to eat out everynight?
I was hopping to do so. I can’t really cook (like I know the basics but eating everyday the same will make me sick) and don’t know if I will have a room with a Kitchenette.
that is really expensive ngl
£30 a day really adds up lol
are you intern or ng?
Thatll add up to way more than most people spend on food the entire month
Yeah I spend most of my money on food 🥲
Yeah 1k£ 😅😅
I was hoping to reduce that by finding cheap places
...
Lol
Will code for food and shelter 😦
I Hope so 🥲
Man's gonna be spending more on food than rent lmfao
cause keep in mine you need to spend money on transport which is also a shit ton
and rent
Still haven’t found a place to stay. All the student dorms are so expensive 🥲
so i would suggest to maybe try learn to cook some other dishes? idk how hard it is for you, i just love cooking that's why haha
but at least they include the bills
I wish I could love it but all I cook tastes shit 😂
Student accom is always expensive I recommend looking on spareroom
I heard really bad stuff from friends who lived in a shared flat
you need to account for bills like wifi, electricity, water, gas
I mean bro if you learn to cook you can save an extra 800 a month lol
True. I will ask my friends if they could show me 😂
Hope you've got a good paying job if you don't wanna live with people hahah
Have to find a super rich old women who will pay for everything
also im vegetarian so i save even more money on meat
but i would honestly recommend you to learn how to cook other dishes
alternate between the different cuisine every other 2 days so you dont get sick of it
How much do you spend on groceries?
Everything I cook is vegetarian too lol, I'm not vegetarian I just really hate cutting raw meat
£200 is a reasonable amount for a combo of cooking from scratch and also stuff like oven pizzas
How much would rent be for an apartment in Zone 2/3 (London)?
And how long does it usually take to find an apartment?
If you're living alone I would expect 1.5k+
I constantly look her if something comes up: https://m.spareroom.co.uk
Yeah, I am too broke for that. But say 2-3 room mates?
But again that’s sharing
You can find rooms for under 1k
otherwise you can find 800£ flat in zone 3
unfurnished
that's what i might be going for
Ooof , that’s hella costly.
What areas are that cheap in zone 3?
share with 2 other people
Oh right
yes, that's cheap for london and it's borough
I lived in Zone 1 during my internship for like 500 a month, but that was at a place called Unite Students.
Really wish I could find something similar
500 is super low there is no chance you'll find a flat that cheap lol
where in the world does unite student rent out their rooms for 500quid a month in zone 1 london
Yeah thats crazy
unite student in edi is already 800 quid
Think the place was called Romano court?
500 per week you mean? I spoke to few places and the lowest they told me was like 1.4K per month
Oh lol no, now I that think about it, it was 150 a week
Damn that’s a super deal
edi is not even this price wtf
When did you book?
Had to share with 4 other people, and was during summer
Yeah that just might be it
there isnt space in may cause everyone is still in uni
Also, what areas should I look at if I am looking for a “younger crowd”?
150 is still insanely cheap, mine in edinburgh was more than that and it was sharing with 6 people 30 mins out of the centre
For that location 150£ is a dream. I would instantly book this 😂 but sadly they haven’t listed yet
Or they are full.
i dont think they will list it for 150
like, in this economy, accomodations make so much money
I definitely feel like I got super lucky with it
Had some ex interns recommend this.
Also, any idea what areas I should look at if I am looking for a “younger crowd”?
im not from ldn so i cant tell you
Oh with Shared bathroom
i was last summer
Yep, would have liked to have my own. But wasn’t too bad.
Your internship ended in august or September?
August
Because most places I contacted couldn’t offer me until mid September 😦
I Need until late September 🥲
Yeah, mine started a bit early. So had to rent this other place for the first 2 weeks before moving in at Romano court
🥲
What will you suggest to a guy who graduated recently in Jan'23, is based in South Asia, and trying to relocate to Canada?
The guy has 2 SWE Internships, 2 RA, and TA experience, a 5-month Full-Stack dev experience, 2 Research papers, and have done 30+ LCs.
A. Prepare for masters, do well in GRE+IELTS, Have more Research -> Get into a decent Uni -> Do internships -> Join Full time (2.5 years timeframe at least)
B. Do at least 300+ LCs, apply to every job, and pray that there will be one that may sponsor a visa.
C. Join a local company that nobody heard of, gain experience of 3-4 years, apply to jobs as a Senior, and pray the same as before. (There is no MNC in my city)
have u looked at express entry? i believe this is an option for canada, where people submit their information. work experience, education, language, family information, financial information and they will give you a "score". i think if the score is high enough they will offer some kind of a visa but im not 100 percent sure how it works since im from the UK. but i have looked into it personally and it seems pretty interesting. The visa should allow you to work etc etc. it appears you can increase your "score" by having higher levels of education, being in a work field which is in "demand", having a good amount of work experience, and having family connections and a stable financial situation, also having a job offer increases the score too.
its better to apply when your younger too from what i have heard since younger people moving to canada will contribute more to their economy than somebody who is older. pay more taxes over their life, earn more money etc etc
yeah express entry gives you permanent residence
it's a good option, the score cutoff was very high around 2021/2022 cause they paused it for a year or two during covid but it might be back to normal now
from what i remember before covid if you have a bachelors, 1-2 years of experience and speak basic french you were almost guaranteed to meet the score requieement
Great Advice, Thanks. But I am not really sure if they would count the internship experience as the same as the full-time job experience. And, I only have a bachelor's, a master's would be a great help too. And I don't wanna just move to that country for the sake of moving, I would like to have an aim, you know? Like, if I do the Master's there, I can probably reapply for jobs, probably will get an internship at a top company. Or, a job with sponsorship would be good too.
I am not sure, my scores will go higher in the Express Entry based on the "Criteria". However, not to brag, I did some actual real-world problem-solving projects which were well received in the community. For example, I made a free latex editor using devcontainers with vscode+git+live-share+grammarly integration the last November and it already received 140+ stars and 110+ forks. There are also some other projects like split-fare extensions for ride-sharing apps, and so on. But, I am really doubtful that they would count these as "skill"
if you're interested you can use this site to calculate your score https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp
Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) tool: skilled immigrants (Express Entry)
the requirement was 791 in the most recent round
Uh-huh! Bachelor's Degree, 2 years exp (Counting the Paid Internships), IELTS score made up to 400. So far away from the minimum requirements. I think it is for the seniors. And if you have an offer letter from type00 company, know French, have siblings (I have relatives but not siblings), then it can go upto 700+
A few years ago it was in the 500s, I think it's still not recovered from being closed due to pandemic
Lots of highly qualified people still waiting
In that case it's probably easier to just get a normal work visa from a job but I don't know much about that
Has anyone done an internship after graduation following by a full time position somewhere else?
this is quite common
i know a number of people who couldnt find FT so they do intern and wait out
That’s good to know! What did they convince the companies that they would go to another semester of school? Since most companies only allow enrolled students to intern.
Just DMed you
I’m curious about this as well
They didnt rlly convince the companies, some companies are open to hiring graduate interns
for example binance dont rlly hire freshgrads as much, so its common to apply as intern and then convert half way
some quant companies like WQ are also open to graduated interns
oh but they applied in their final semester before gradutaton and the positions are usually super limited like only 1 or 2 at WQ
so before graduation apply as intern but only start interning after graduation
Hey guys, would really like your help on this. I recently got an offer from Vanguard that's double the pay I got from ARM. The problem is, I already signed the ARM offer. What should I do? Email the Recruiter / Manager about wanting to leave? If so, do I be honest and say I got a better offer or say something else came up? Is there something I should look for in my contract that could prevent me from doing this? (Only found that I have to give a 4-week notice period). I truly feel bad for having to drop out of the offer, but at the same time, I would feel insane not to take Vanguard.
just tell them you are rescinding your acceptance for "personal reasons"
don't need to tell them why
and yes i'd email whoever sent you the offer
Just leave it as personal reasons, or be more specific that it's not feasible for me to take the job or something?
Also thanks again for the advice
i would keep it vague, as long as you're not saying "the pay is bad and i got something better" it's fine
Right haha, noted. Again, really appreciate the advice
No problem
If location is a factor also use that
I could, but it was obvious it would have been Cambridge, so not sure if they'd believe that, I'll probably stick with the vague approach.
Is it wrong at the end of an interview I ask the interviewer about work life balance? After asking that I felt I shouldn’t have asked that
i did, and the person from morgan stanley was so sarcastic, as in "oh no work life balance here in morgan stanley is so good! they like to schedule meetings between 11am to 2pm, without thinking that some people eat lunch at normal hours"
XD
my brain was like "the shade lmao"
i asked the same at optiver and she told me "it's not that bad" lmfao
optiver and hrt are pretty chill
to them doing overtime means u r not capable of finishing ur work within the 8 hours so thats a red flag
i've never heard anyone call optiver chill, i actually asked her about it because of how awful everyone says it is
i already accepted an offer like 4 months back but now amazon is offering me their final for sde summer intern
lowkey im rusty af at LC u guys think its possible for me to push the final to new grad?
ye
oh cool
fr do u know if they are hiring new grads rn?
they are not
just not sure what my chances are considering the freezes that are going on
im still sitting here with both oas done
Yep
if u aint rejected keep hope G
cause i wasn't rejected and they finally got back to me
AFTER 6 MONTHS
💀
Yeah they started moving the waitlist and sending new oas and finals and stuff last week for interns
That's in us and Canada, you're the first uk person I've seen get progressed
But good to know that they're doing jt here too
lowkey might try to push for new grad cause im not sure i can spare any time for LC again i gotta survive exams
Lol, this is cool. I just felt it was wrong coz I couldn’t come up with a good question😅. Though the interviewer answered it gladly
it think it's a good question, cause it kinda shows that you are interested in knowing more about the company culture and not just what they do
125
anybody here know the like "average" difficulty of an amazon final
like is it known for being hard and difficult or similar to other places like msft
or is it just luck?

Thanks for making me feel a bit better😅
For intern last year I got 2 hards
But I think I just got extra unlucky lol
Hiring freeze at Amazon over?
Crazy, I wonder why new grads are being left out
I already gave up after giving perfect OAs and mfs just ghosted
manifesting the surprise 1x30 invite in like 6 months when I'm about to start my new job
I think this only applies to the US applicants no?
I mean the 1x30
The US seems to find things easy most times
No
like for BLoomberg while London asks Sys design NYC doesn’t
what u think my chances are tho
we all going to Amazon boys
like lowkey dont think imma be able to interview
see you there

but my exams are gonna be so bad

why they do this to me
i actually haven't checked the portal lol
i woke up to the email
i will check soon
i will let you know what my portal says
so you’re telling me Amazon is starting to unfreeze?
been whitelisted since Nov
for intern

keep hope people

id have to decide if they gave me an offer. lowkey not sure if i wanna do the final cause of my exams. part of me wants to just yolo and see how it goes but another part of me wants to see if i can push to new grad.
glad i got a response tho, im hyped af just dont know what to do ong

cause tbh i like gs a lot i care about finance so its hard to decide
thats what i have been thinking about. cause they must have teams for algo trading.
you're playing with fire by going l1 with amazon lol
what r/csmajors does to an mf
What’s LP?
Leadership principles
is uiPath a good name in CV?
have you heard about them at least?
atm I have an offer from Softwire, and the salary is with 50% more then what uiPath can offer. Is it worth trying to go through uiPath’s interview process (I need to schedule my phone interview and I was thinking if I should keep going)
I havent heard of them
What's the location of the internship
Bucharest
same with Softwire
Oh makes sense I was gonna say if it's london there's no way it's a good company, if softwire is paying 50% more lol
indeed. for London softwire seems to have a low salary
but for Romania is pretty high for interns
they pay similar with Amazon
How are your inboxes doing
Which OA?
Starling bank, its not even an oa really it's a take home
Recruiter screen before that as well I guess
The panorama is definitely not great
I applied to 22 internships yesterday so I'm hoping it'll be a bit more lively in the coming weeks lol
22? Where did you find that many
Indeed and glassdoor
There's lots of postings there that just don't show up on linkedin's search
"It is not that you're not great. It's just that you're not great enough for us."
I'm not interesting enough
so rude lmfao
blud

What months does your internship hold. May to July?
How brutal is the market rn for internationals?
Pretty brutal
Anyone that applied to Visa Heard back?
@hidden wind can you check your DM
Any emea companies that provide sponsorship still open? 😦
just got a rejection after the SHL Assessment lol
To the US?
got rejected yesterday
same
Have you passed the VI?
Anyone interviewed at qualcomm?
bro, when did you apply for starling bank?
november 23rd
I applied for it at the beginning of December, got first round interview invitation on this Monday, and will interview tomorrow
and i did the first round last friday
its just a recruiter screen, they just ask questions like why did you apply to starling
got it!
The interview is just about 15 min, I don't think they will ask me for many behavior questions
yeah
she just asked me why i applied and what projects have i done in the past, what languages have i used etc
and salary expectations
and then the rest of the time is her explaining the interview proces
I did similar interviews before. They just asked me for 3 why questions, and then introduce their team and the recruitment process
the take home task is pretty cool, i submitted it 2 days ago
Great! I will finish it this weekend.
bro, I followed your step to apply for QRT, interviewed this Monday, got rejected today
Have you moved to the technical round?
I havent even heard back after the oa yet
Good luck!
Thanks
Nah got rejected as well
I like that they gave feedback
Found it sorta helpful
The feedback may be the same
My friend and I have the same feedback
same
I feel like I did everything except the first point, but oh well
How could we know the payment system details for Visa?
Amazon moving the EU intern waitlist today

Yup 🤣
That’s what I was thinking lol
Gosh, I really don't like mathlab
I've never used it lol
But dont worry, if i get the job I'll make matlab better
whoever's been ghost pinging me for the past 2 days i will find you one day
lol same
and I really thought about what answers I gave
blaming myself for not answering them the way they wanted
I have
But for hardware, pre Silicon validation
probably the hardest oa ive done
defo not getting the job lol
I had the same experience with it about 4 months ago
Lol
I did technically solve 2/3 questions but they seem very strict on time complexity
Well you done better than me, I solved 1st then saw that I wouldn't be able to solve the 3rd and quit out lol
Lmao
I'm just assuming I did solve it since I got like 6/15 passed and time limit exceeded for the rest hahah
Oh fair enough haha
Could you tell me when did you get the take home test after the recruiter interview?
Like 5 mins after
Lol
thanks, I am still waiting for it
Yes, I will do it on Monday
I see some people sharing their interview on Glassdoor got their take home test the day after
Starling Bank is similar to Wise
How’s your interview for mako?
I think their hc is full, got ghosted.
I did the first round a couple weeks ago and I think it went well, they said there's gonna be a few weeks delay for the second round tho
But they are stack ranking so it all depends on how well the others do lol
weird question but did you get the first interview after bombing the oa too?
i just got invited to an interview to "talk about your qualifications" and im wondering if its auto or if that means i passed the oa? they sent at exactly 18:00
No, I didn't submit unless it auto-submitted but they didn't send any emails after. I had a questionnaire thing before the OA but that was all.
oh ok
I guess they were satisfied enough with your solutions. They probably knew the time limit exceeding was too strict
yea I was thinking I probably got 100% on the maths part as well
need to learn matlab now cause I told my recruiter I know basic matlab (I lied)
Oh yea good point, I'm sure it's easy to pick up the basics. Gl with phone interview
thanku
I know a guy who did his thesis in MatLab. I have never seen him happy.
imagine your thesis is about converting existing matlab package into python, and to do so, you have to understand the matlab code
you brought this upon yourself
:
41 days left and the report hasn't been touched since background chapter
same lol
and we cant get extension
cristina is pushing me to get started with testing rn but my app isn't even an app yet and won't be done for another 2 weeks at least
is she your second marker??
yeah lol

better than mine i guess, he doesn't seem to give a single f at my thing but said at the end of the presentation "im not sure about actual aim of your project, and how useful it is"
ahahahahh
bruh she didnt want anyone to get above 80 in the essays for sepp... and marked down a few peeps that i gave above 70
but the fact that the avg is 65 is more scary ngl
if i get 60 in it, i will just get 70 overall degree classification
but i have a feeling i aint getting 60 lmao
if i dont get 70, my parents are going to disown me
i mean even high 60s is very good, less than 30% of people get over 70
I'm on a borderline 2:1 right now which is kinda scary lol
go tell that to an asian parent
between 2:2 and 2:1?
@strong peak you did gsa capital hackerrank right? how hard is it?
I have done it about 2 weeks ago
GSA Capital test is about 4 leetcode questions and 5 computer science fundamental questions
The leetcode is easy to medium, but the time is really limited
It's not easy to pass all the test cases for 4 leetcode questions in such a short time
I passed all the test cases for 3 leetcode questions and 70% for the last one, and I am confident about the fundamental questions
still got rejected
lmaoo
i will do it tonight
i think they resume screen before the oa so i guess you need 100% to pass?
same as what I thought
:(
Good luck, fighting, and pass all of them !
thank you brother 💪
Damn, congrats 🎉
65% is between a 2:1 and a first so it makes sense
Any suggestions on taking auto loans with a decent credit score?? What would be the best option?
please do not take financial advice from cs students
go all out. biggest loan. they give you more money than if you take a small loan
😂
For those on OPT, did y’all try to renew F1 and how was the experience
companies respond before the deadline they set themselves challenge (impossible)
Do your days of grace period reset after lay off?
Or do they continue from after graduation?
Do you guys have an opinion on neighborhoods from zone 2-3 which have a direct station to the Elizabeth line
lots of depressed middle aged bankers too
anyone apply to fundapps?
they sent me an email a couple days ago telling me will contact me again to schedule a call in a few weeks, which is a bit of a strange way to do it 🤔 but I ain't complaining. At least they're communicative
none of the ones i applied to are communicating 💀

it was like that for me too for a while. but last week there was a big boost in responses and suddenly I have 5 interviews in a week
Had a bad experience with them. I applied and got rejected via Linkedin
And i mean the reecrutier dmed me on linkedin to reject me
hahahah thats amazing
W
did you apply for PolyAi/Redgate?
I applied to polyai
Does apprenticeship at Google count as professional swe experience? 🤔
It's probably not seen as equal to a normal job
But I don't think you'd get accepted with a cs degree anyway
Ohh ok thanks
like the area
If you can’t get a job do you just go to school for masters
Phd 🥲 or random low pay IT job

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced today the expansion of premium processing for certain F-1 students seeking Optional Practical Training (OPT) and F-1 students seeking science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) OPT extensions who have a pending Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, and wish to requ...
can you summarize this

Lmao ok so from my understanding, now u can pay $1500 for ur opt to get processed quickly ( < 30 days)
It’s hella expensive but it’s good we have an option now if we need to get it quickly
opt as in getting the EAD card?
Yep
This is great. Do you guys know the current opt processing time? My school told me it takes around 4-6 weeks but some friends told me it’s higher
by paying 1.5
I think it was just longer in 2021-2022 because of covid and now it’s faster
No
She didnt use premium processing but still got approved after 2 weeks
1500 is still a lot
Atleast it’s an option
1500 is a lot but better than not being able to work because ur ead card arrives late
y'all have offers?
I have 1 but still looking
I feel like no one is hiring internationals right now
Yeah but I’m waiting on my school to confirm that I am graduating before I apply for opt
Wouldnt that be too late tho?
and the market rn is shit
School usually confirms after the final grades are out
I have heard it’s a lot of trouble if you apply for opt and don’t graduate
My current offer wants me to start in late may but im just afraid they are gonna rescind my offer
And i will be left with less time to look for jobs
which company is this
Jpmc
why do you think they might rescind
Layoffs
They normally dont hire internationals
well then how did you get the offer
coz they verify status and stuff
Also interviewing for veeva right now
They seem to be sponsoring
If u r doing masters
Gl 💯
are you in top 10 CS?
No not even close.. like top 30
Kinda regret doing MS at this point
Spent too much money on it and the economy is so shit
nice profile pic @mellow sail
omg hahaha lol
actually we’re both terrified xD
Anyone else got the rejection for Citi new grad today?
Hey any update on barclays technology analyst internships?
No one can tell for sure when the market will recover
Imo the first option is decent, you can apply to both NG and intern positions
NG would be optimal for sure, but an internships might open future return offers
If during the extra semester you're not getting anything, enroll into masters
But if you know for sure what masters you wanna do then you might want to take the second option
I would say so, doing masters might be better than doing pretty much nothing for a year
But it also depends on what you do during the gap
Same as above - in your situation I would do the extra semester and keep applying to both internships and new grad, also apply to a masters to start in january
And if you get a job then you can just cancel the masters
If I grad in July August can I still apply for fall internships?
If you don't say when you graduate and you sign before graduation i guess
is there a UK cscareers channel
secan u share this one
me and @marsh oasis applied but none of us heard back
after the take home test
someone posted on linkedin that they got an offer, so i think we've been ghosted
Damn
found an email i was gonna send them in my drafts
but i guess there's no point now lol
i might send it to ask for feedback maybe
what's that?
Honestly, if i find an organization i think is cool i might
better to work on open source stuff than sit around waiting for offers
hopefully it isn't as difficult as applying for internships lol
nah it's way more work tbh
for the really popular orgs, you need to be active in the community
to apply or when you get in?
to get in
like there're hundreds (maybe thousands?) of proposals
and only a few got it
like last yr, llvm only had 5-6 gsoc projects approved
wait, i must have read it wrong. Do you have to propose your own project?
yes
they gave u an idea
then you propose what r u gonna do with it
timeline + how will you do it
- why ur a good fit
or you could come up with an original idea
ofc there're guidances but still it's competitive
I'm applying this yr for the 1st time
doing it alongside my internship
I got deferred master's CS admission to UIUC (Spring 24). Should I wait for it or just join fsu this fall?
Why though
I think they probably have hired enough people, most of rejection are similar to this
I need advice from you guys
Got admits from Rice University & Indiana University Bloomington For MS in Computer Science
Pros for Rice:
Great campus
Great Computer science department
Better alumni network? (maybe)
Cons for Rice:
Too expensive ($54000 for one-year tuition) so it will take longer to pay off the loan
Pros for IUB:
Way Cheaper than Rice
Larger Alumni network (because of more people)
Cons for IUB:
The location is Bloomington, so it will be harder to get jobs & internships in tech
If you have anything to add please tell me.
Which one would y'all choose
Rice
could you tell me your reasons for choosing rice
I would say it is a better cs school and also more widely known
If the costs are not too concerning ofc
Would you choose rice
even if the debt was around 85 thousand?
Compared to Indiana's 50 thousand
Thats the thing I don't know if I should take debt to go to rice
Really confused
Is there any way to reduce it?
most people in this channel are not in america and probably dont know much about US unis so you might want to ask in a different channel
nope
Ok I will thanks
as a non-american i have heard of rice but not bloomington, i'm not sure if it's worth the extra 35k debt though
location doesn't matter that much for jobs, you can just apply for internships and jobs in other cities/states
Also try to look up which university has more people in big tech or a company you desire
The number is around the same, However, the thing is that Total population at rice university is only around 5000 student total
At indiana the number is waay highter 36000
but I check on linkedin the employees at big tech from those two are kind of the same
Worth extra 35k
Bruh
I heard some consulting companies are abusing the h1b system and making ppl apply to several h1b applications even without a job offer
😭 dyeah i get that it’s technically legal still feels bitter
For f-1 internationals who couldnt get any internship for the summer, do we have to leave the country during the summer and come back?
@mellow sail Do you know if i have to fill out some kind of form for the govt or school?
I dont really see anything related to that online
no u r fine as long as u have a valid i-20. U can even travel outside the US and come back
I see. All i see from govt website is that if i leave the US, i cannot enter again if the semester doesnt start in less than 30days, so thats about the only limitation
Thanks

yeah it's pretty bad
but don't worry, it'll get worse
😀

I feel like I'm being taxed even for breathing
Also I totally forgot about the type of plug in the UK and got ripped off for an adapter
Hahah to me housing is worse than taxes 😂😂😂😂😂
A room in london costs the same or more than my entire 1 bed flat in edinburgh
I recently got a quote for a studio room all bills included for 2.4K 😂
I cried in poor
Lmfao
That's just wild 💀 realistically in london can live alone pretty central for like 1.5k rent excluding bills
Forgot to mention no room mates
Yeah it was Canary Wharf
Problem is i only need it For 3 months
All the short term places charge 80% more because of that
Oh yeah in canary wharf they'll just be taking advantage of rich interns at all the banks lmfao
My friend's meta housing was a nice place in canary wharf and I looked up the prices, they're insane
Wanna share? I am still searching
I'm still job hunting 💀💀
So I'm not sure if I'm going to london this summer yet
But if I do and you're still looking then sure
Ah you will find something! 👍🏽
