Challenge i set for myself:

• easy: 20 min
• medium: 30 min
• hard: 60 min

I try solving and not look at the answer. Paper and pen is very useful at this stage.

If i can't solve after those times, i check the "most upvoted" solution under discussions OR search it on youtube.

Don't forget, everyone has a different pace. I solve 2 easy/med questions and its been 11 days = 22 questions.

If i continue like this until graduation, i will get ~400 questions done. Is this realistic? Yes, only 1-2h of leetcode everyday. I try to avoid 2 hards since i am still a beginner, i go for easy/mediums and follow the free packages that leetcode offers (https://leetcode.com/study-plan/).

I did it with Anki (tool for learning languages) and did it consistently for 1 year, this is less and doable. I am a slow learner => slow and steady

the most intimidating parts:

• comparing myself with others (must avoid this)
• thinking about failing

The second one can be challenging if you haven't failed any interviews so i recommend to get interviews and fail (like don't fail on purpose, try but many rejections will start to feel normal)

I still struggle with the first one. Whenever I see someone doing amazing, i feel shit but hey; i just open my "to do list" and go from there. Slow and steady

I was going to give up on my SWE dreams and go into IT/DevOps instead because I didn't find leetcoding fun, struggled with my coding assignments, didn't do personal projects in my free time. I just hope I wouldn't have given up, because now I have a six month leetcode gap I could've used for the interviews.

Anyways I have a year of part-time IT work for backup and I honestly enjoy the work I do at IT - I just think it would open more doors if I start as SWE and it would give me some freedom to figure myself out

Stop grinding LeetCode. That’s the least efficient way to be successful at interviews. Honestly there are some really great basic courses on LinkedIn Learning that can explain the fundamentals you need for interviews and you can learn it all within about 12-15 hours. It’s entirely worth the investment. The job won’t be anything like the interview, it will be a lot more like owning your own side project. But seriously, 12-15 hours of studying fundamentals will make you 90% better at interviews than doing 12-15 hours of leetcode.

And I can practically guarantee that.

I would say there’s trial and error, but the good courses will be about specific topics, not so much generic. Don’t search DS&alg if you are already good with basic DS&alg. Study what you struggle with. Look up Dynamic Programming, Binary Trees, Sorting algorithms, etc. get specific. Target your weak points. LeetCode should only serve as three things:

1. Test you on what you know
2. Show you what you don’t know
3. Test your ability to problem solve as a general skill

There’s no reason to memorize problems though.

imho, you don't have to be the best. Most people are chasing FAANGs and big Ns here. I currently work in a bank. I can tell you, most of my colleagues have mediocre (at best) technical skills. I learn things slowly, and it is a 9-5 job. I worked in a cut-throat Series A finTech startup at NYC before that, and I worked with senior devs who are so technically competent that they can easily get a job in Google, but chose to work in startups. It might not seem like it, but FAANGs and big techs are NOT the only options.

I got an offer letter for an internship and signed it on the 21st. I was told I had until the 24th to sign. I hadn't heard anything since signing it, so today I reached out. I was told that the offer letter expired on the 24th and they were moving forward with other candidates. But I signed it on the 21st. I have a copy of it that they sent me and told me to keep for my records with the date clearly saying February 21st, 2022

They are now ghosting me.
In the offer letter it states that at any point from now or during my 90 day internship they can terminate my position. Which, ok, fine. But they are just pretending I never signed the letter. They could just say someone more qualified applied and we changed our mind, or they are eliminating the internship role. But to just act like its my fault... pisses me off. Especially since I've been working my ass off on my resume with my school's career advisor, writing fuck tons of cover letters, and this is the one internship I've been accepted to.

Well, I went down to their office because they weren't answering emails. I was told immediately to leave and that if I ever came back that they'd call the police.

They offer me $12/hour for a software internship. I get them to go to $14/hour. They send me an offer letter which I sign and send back the same day. A week later they tell me the offer expired because I didn't sign it in the 3days allowed. I ask for clarification and get ghosted. I go to the offices, and get told to leave and never come back or else police will be involved.

Fuck Scandinavian Designs

If I was yelling, being an ass, or something like, I get it. But I was ghosted and just politely and tactfully as possible asking what happened, and who can I talk to to correct it

So yeah, stay clear of Scandinavian Designs, I guess.

But don't take it personal, they seem like a shitty company. You'll be able to find much better companies and pay.

And they they already rejected you by using the "expired deadline" as an excuse, that part is uncommon and I'm sorry that you experienced that tbh, sucks being rejected. Hey, sorry if this has been discussed before, but what's with all of the contractor positions?? I'm currently looking out for a new job, and almost all of the positions that recruiters reach out with are contractor with chance to full time, or just straight 1 year/2 year contracts. And so many of these contracting companies take a huge cut of the pay you would get as a FTE. I understand that these contracting companies help get your foot in the door and everything, and I am super appreciative of that, it just seems lame they take so much.
