Let's say the ML infra role builds tools for feature engineering, model training, deployment, etc. The distributed systems role develops distributed databases and storage systems.

depends, I think if you're more interested in data science, ML infra lets you potentially shift that direction if you want to and keeps you around that space in general. I've seen people moving back and forth here doing data science and infra building. Only thing is that ML infra at the moment is arguably more niche where only top companies recognize this is important whereas most places have bad data and just don't understand how / what is necessary for ML

on the other hand, distributed is super hot and will definitely not go away. You'll notice that a high chunk of people in FAANG companies leave the distributed systems teams to start a startup for the space quite often. I'd think ML infra will grow over time to be more broadly used but currently, I'd say there's more use for distributed overall

Really can't go wrong either way since those fields aren't going away and always growing

may be your recruiter is oos due to vacation . Once you accept the offer you and company are bounded by the clause stated in the offer letter

i would recommend only negotiating if u have some kind of leverage, which most of the time new grads probably dont have. FOr example, if u have another offer with a higher salary, say like I want to go to ur company for better work/life culture or something but another company pays more are you willing to match

@fallen burrow if you are not getting interviews, that means your resume needs some polishing. GO to ur colelge career center or ppl to help make it better. As for who is open, you have many choices (go thru our list of companies and check their websites, university job board, linkedin, etc). Also, not that I recommend it, but there are H1B consulting body shops u can check out if u are desperate for a job.

Hiring took place back in August up to about Feb or March, companies have basically filled what they need for new grads/have ended their recruiting season, just the nature of the cycle really

2021 recent masters grad, no job offers.almost all my batchmates have a job in hand. i dont know if i am less talented or is it just my bad time
feeling really low. i have got 4 callbacks and i was rejected by all of them. gave first round behavioural intervire for few companies last week but im not sure if i will pass all the rounds. I am from a reputed univ, done 200+ leetcode problems, applied to various companies. i dont know what else should i do. someone pls enlighten me.

if you’re applying right now it’s out of season so you might not have all that much luck bc it’s so dry out there. new grad roles will open up in aug-sept mainly (but am not 100% sure how it equates for master’s grad — but i think it’s similar)

try and work through grokking the coding interview if you haven't already, leetcode prep, refine resume, build a list of potential referrals since you said your batchmates all have a job
