crazy, not surprised that new grads leave a position within one year
Accenture was paying him $87,000 and all he was doing was Salesforce admin stuff which he said was pretty easy but he wasn’t happy with.
Can you get experience right after you graduate then apply for new grad the next year lol
i think thats whats implied by the comment yea ^
but you gotta apply like 2 months into ur job basically cause new grads open up september ish
if not august
If you graduate in 2021 and if you sign an offer with a small company to work for them during the summer, you can 100% apply to FAANG or whatever company new grad positions in the fall (since you are eligible for new grad positions one year past graduation). I would HIGHLY recommend doing this if you want to work for those companies. In the summer, just practice your LeetCode skills for when recruiting season begins in the fall.
or work for them right up until you gotta leave to other new grad job 👀
For real just chase the check and then dip with you get a better offer
What I found helpful is if you go to a smaller school, utilize referrals and reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn
100% True. This practice helped me to get in FAANG
In the September(before graduation), list out all big tech companies and start applying to new grad position when it’s open, then wait until December/January to get update from them
^
I'm doing this
do all big companies only take referrals after a candidate submits an application or are there cases where an employee submits a referral and that way the candidate can apply through like an email or something
Have any Fall 2021 grads applied and received offers for 2021 roles? I am deciding if I want to graduate early or not, thanks!

International student here, so considering visa limitations, any staffing companies anybody knows of that aren't shady? I mean, a couple that I've spoken to... one asked me for 10k for "training" and the other said I'll have to pay them 12k if I refuse to accept a project. 🤷🏻♂️
Does this valid for new grads too or only interns??
This was the first year they opened it for new grads, so it is now new grads and interns
Is it still open ??
To apply
I cannot find the application
Also are you international student and got accepted into this program
the page says it only accepts students from U.S. unis but some fellows are from waterloo university which is in canada 🤔
I mean international students in US universities and not citizens
The application is closed and no I am not international. It closed in November
DMed you
See in example 2 to make output alphabetically greater than input "d" is used at 2nd index
you should have a map of some sort that assigns a value to the alphabet to know that the output is alphabetically greater than the input
on example 2 "abcbc" is less than "abcba", so you another solutions needs to be devised
damn thats interesting
I offer this early morning prayer for lc easy’s, même final rounds, and immense stock options

Will try this. Thanks!

way too early for that mate

when does Stripe new grad open?

anyone interviewed at snap?
prayer for getting lc questions I've done perfectly

Stripe is done recruiting for the season. You can try again in the fall.
@peak dirge yeah i meant what time would they open around next year
this fall new grad opens up again? okay

is google usually pretty selective with who they send OAs to?
prolly not if i got one

everyone wants a bite of the apple but sometimes u gotta settle for the banana
(amazon employees triggered)
das a bar
(idk why i said this, just came to me)
cus it was a bar
which role/team?
compare ord(output) and ord(input)
This problem . Right ?
@cerulean pivot posting OAs no no right?
👍
👍👍
👍 👍 👍
👍 👍 👍 👍
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
what did it say i missed it 😦
me too
uh oh mods are here lets dip
mods are awake scram fast
@smoky hornet @manic urchin do not use this server to ask questions/guidance on OAs
SCRAM
you will be banned the next time you do this
pls do not aid your peers on online assessments as well
to keep the process fair for everyone
Yeah sorry seems fair
@zinc dawn do not post OA questions you will be banned the next time
@stable raptor pls do not assist your peers for OAs to keep the process fair for everyone
twitter in review for over 2 weeks
Is Facebook intern pipeline different than NG? I got rejected from internship last month and I’m wondering I I can apply to NG this fall
they rejected me so it might be a good sign for you
how much sys design is expected for new grad interviews?
and should I cover databases extensively as well?
Hi could someone help me with advice?
regarding negotiating and leaving my current job?
thanks all!
most companies now actually make you explain your solution in the OA e.g. Intuit, Atlassian
Pinterest New Grad OA could literally be found on LeetCode + there’s a website with all the Karat Interview coding questions and answers it’s crazy out here
Gotta do what you gotta do to get hired 🤷

I think they reason why people cheat on OAs is you either know the trick or you don't. The timer doesn't give you enough time to think of a suboptimal solution that passes some test cases - you either know how to implement a perfect solution or you don't. And it's really frustrating and that's probably why if you're desperate you might open a new tab and cheat
If you don't cheat Amazon won't call you for the 30 minute meme round
Yeah that's the thing :/
Fucking hurts
If you don't know the trick you're basically stuck
yeah bc no interviewer to offer a hint
For example the XOR trick for finding duplicates
kind of dumb
That shit hella amazing but if you don't know it it's going to be really hard coming up with a one pass soln
@worthy spear ya agree tho?
Tech interviews broken
And the sad part is idk how to fix it
the problem w that kinda shit is it just means the person who can grind the most leetcode and memorize the most problems wins
which is dumb
And tbh the current system is very fair for those who game the system (aka us)
and also eliminates a lot of candidates who dont have time to do that (i.e. are working to pay bills during school)
yeah dunno me either but it is a really bad system lmao
I hope I don't have to keep up with this bullshit in my career
I hope to god I only do LC bs at most till I become senior eng and then it's more of your typical interview
this is wrong
it's not important for /most/
but some companies ask sys des
in ng
I have a problem
I just got an offer from another company I'm interviewing with but in the downtime between my interviews and the offer (about 2 weeks) I started an amazon interview process
now the company is asking for a decision by friday and I know I won't get done with amazon stuff by then
The recruiter I'm talking to knows all this and said we can probably accelerate the interview process to 2 weeks but like
fuck dude
how do I ask for 2+ more weeks to decide from a company that already offered me something
@ me if you have a solution to my hell
renege
Why are people afraid to renege
^
I’ll renege the shit out of my offer if I get a better one
ok but like how do you do that for 2 weeks lmao
most /bigger/ companies won't even care if you renege
wait
did you ask
if you could extend the time
for your offer
at least
and worst case you just say yes
and then be like actually no ty if you get the other offer
most companies iirc can't contractually keep you (except for like Witch)
esp if the offer is for california
where you're at-will
I mean I'd be at will here too with the offer I have now
do I tell them that I'm doing another interview that's gonna take another week or two?
you tell them as much as you want to tell them
though preferably don't be an ass lol
lmao yeah
it's for a smaller company around Boston so idk how much leverage I have here
did anyone else just get an email about a snap interview
if you get a problem in an interview that youve practiced before should u tell your interviewer or what happens then
act as if you saw for the first time
but is that... bad😰
maybe but honestly do what ya gotta do to get the job lol
i think you should do it i mean it shows you have the right knowledge for what they're looking for
that's also true
Imagine you tell them you’ve seen the question before then they ask a different one that you can’t solve, now you just missed out on getting the job
maybe you could pose it as i've seen a similar problem that was a variant of this pattern before? i honestly dunno
yeah the thought of this happenin terrifies me LOL
Moral of the story, being a Good Samaritan in situations like that gets you nowhere
if you had seen it before then you probably already have an idea of what the brute force solution looks like and then can iterate on it as if you had never seen it before
@slim inlet ace that shit in 5 min and pretend you’re the prodigal son. negotiate up to $500k tc and renege for Amazon. That is the way
what could go wrong
seriously, if you’ve ground enough leetcode to get to the point where you have a solution to the question memorized, you deserve the easy pass. you’ve met the criteria of the system and filtered through. no use is making it harder for yourself...
@knotty basin absolutely nothing
is grad school worth it for CS?
masters is also useful for international students who did their bachelors abroad i think
not an expert on this but i think it helps to get sponsorship
also a good interviewer won't rip questions directly off leetcode. i've had some very similar questions though and i think that's fair game for "i've never seen it before"
Check out this post! "Do I pretend I’ve never seen the Leetcode question before? (Tech Industry)"
https://us.teamblind.com/s/QQSScmbp
I had that happen, the interviewer asked “have you seen this problem before” and I said something along the lines of “I’ve seen one like this but I’m not sure if they are solved the same way.” The interviewer said that’s fine and just let me solve it. 😎
I always lie and pretend to struggle for 30 seconds and then solve it in 10 🤝
Like I’ve leetcoded a lot at this point
There’s not many problems that I haven’t seen, or approaches
No point on self-sabotaging my own interview by saying something like “oh yeah I’ve seen it, next question”
interviewer: LC hard

yeah then when you see the LC hard you say "oh this one again? sigh, i've seen this one too"
rinse and repeat until they run out of questions and give you 2sum
say you have seen this question before when you cant solve it so they change the question for a one you have actually seen before

spends 30 minutes trying to solve problem without making any progress
"Wait, I've seen this problem before! Can I get a new one please?"
@iron gate did you renege the big G for a chipotle burrito or did you renege to work at chipotle (tech or otherwise)
i reneged so i could work at chipotle and get free guac
there's passion in making burritos
no passion in big tech
Understandable
international student here. going to graduate this may. no job offers yet. gave 4 interviews and all reject. not getting any OA/interview calls. applying on company website, trying linkedin jobs and messaging&commenting on posts. nothing works so far. what to do? really tired of this shit. im really worried 😦 what should i do? grind leetcode? whats the use of leetcode if im not gettign any oa/interview in the first place?
if youre getting interviews then it seems like you just need to do mocks/more interview prep
honestly it's a numbers game - if you have internship exp, leverage those contacts your made then. If you don't - do some side projects that can get you through a resume screen at almost every company you apply, and then after that it's basically LC grinding and interview maxing. There's a big load of luck in getting OA's much less interviews and offers so don't let it get to you.
imo LinkedIn is trash in the sense that commenting on posts doesn't give anything. Messaging I've had like 1-2% reply rates so I don't ever do that
free guac >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any amount of TC fax
forsure 100%
@iron gate would you work for Club Penguin? I 100000000000000000% would.
thanks for the reply dude. if not linkedin, where can i apply that has higer chances of response?
no, probably would get too cold and the conversion of club penguin coins to USD isn't that great
i mean LI is good for applying to job postings but not good for anything else
also not sure if you're Int'l applying to US based companies, but your immigration status might be the biggest roadblock I think
yes im international
yeah if you're Int'l applying to non-Int'l jobs, it's a lot harder 😦 sorry dude but at this point it's a numbers game
COL and QOL in Club Penguin Island >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anywhere else
free housing, tons of events and parties
free swag each month
i'd sell my soul to work for EPF/PSA
i wouldn't mind making pizzas for a while
more of a coffee shop kinda guy but I agree
Some places like ebay do automatic OA so u can try that
it's all good lads, I got my offer extended so I can finish interviews
tfw you get a problem you know you’ve solved before but you completely blank
does anyone know what happened to the OCI class of cloud engineers thing?
Never heard back
my during my midterm today and also during a lot of OA's fuck me

literally the worst feeling in the entire world lmao
just had my qualcomm phone interview, got the LC merge intervals question
Not bad
The interviewer asked me to write the brute force version
After I wrote the nlogn one
And it was on Google docs
@slim lake was yours on google docs too
yep. yeah I got a decently medium LC question too. And I also gave a better solution that he was asking for lol
Why would he want u to do brute force after LOL
Hopefully we both get the onsite call @mighty plume
he told me 7-10 days for the HR to get back
I feel like I got unlucky, the lady barely says anything lol, she was just like “write the brute force one”
After I literally wrote the optimal one pass version
did you check in with her before starting to code? lol
She said it afterwards
What do you do if you can only make an optimal solution
Like she says write it with out sorting this time
Ask for clarification and hints
Yeah idk she just listened to me talk, I thought she disconnected at times. Never had an interviewer like that lmao
I mean I did complete the coding problem but yeah idk
Yeah the brute force for the merge interval is like 30 lines
While the optimal code is 8 lines
tbf doing it without sorting isn't necessarily brute force if im not wrong. It's a different question
True it can be interpreted that way, no sorting causes a lot of repeated checks, which imo is suboptimal
yes but you might be getting the data in a stream where sorting is not an option
then you'd need to use some sort of data structure like a heap or queue
yeah without sorting is def harder
I realize I basically got this same question without sorting for bloomberg and fucked it up. You need to find the connected components of the graph
lmao she probably was googling it as she was asking you the question
Anyone got call from Verkada or Everlaw for SE position? How's whole the interview process?
For that should I focus more on Leetcode or on any specific tech(React, Flask, etc)?
iirc there's an nlogn version that can be achieved without "sorting"
oof wait is that it? i thought it was a variation of merge sort where we split the array then during the recombination step we do the comparison or something
I don't think it's possible to do it without building a graph
It's on leetcode the solution anyway
I wonder if she was asking for the version with the priority queue then
but that also has "sorting" sdfjkhdsnkfjhsdn
Well I guess I’m screwed:]
Hi, does anyone have given codepair phone interview round with Akuna Capital for Junior dynamic Quant developer profile? If yes, could you please tell me about the type of questions?

hey, can anyone help me with writing a renege email? the templated seemed kinda cold
jujst say ur family member died or something
What's the new grad process at FB, G?
Are new grad interviews harder than intern ones?
usually 1 additional interview
At google new grad it's usually
OA -> 1-2 Phone interview -> 4 technical + 1 behavioral -> offer
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1zFOSjsWJQ2kaNvTmvQi1Mnu4Uk8-JtqlS__RVpLHz6k/edit?resourcekey=0-JWclW7vkLyHoc3q8k_L6ow#slide=id.g6e65bfc090_1_3
Yea - interns don't get multiple interview usually
Is Google doing onsite technicals or are those virtual
I am going to guess everything is virtual rn lmaooo
It's a lot more than intern lmao
Isn't interns like OA + 2 phones?
and host matching ya
Damn
I thought passing an intern interview was difficult
But new grad is like 7 leetcode questions
ya the difficulty of new grad questions are generally similar to intern questions but theres a lot more rounds
anyone gave fordpass interview for android here?
When do positions open for fall grads
applications start ig is the proper terminology
any companies still hiring?
true im talking about the big names ygm
in that case ya for most of them
too late to chase clout this year
Walmart or Groupon if you had to choose
Walmart
Groupon easy lmao
Unless it’s west coast Walmart
115k base + 2K stocks +5k bonus whatever isn’t bad but their 71k base in Arkansas is still pretty bad
groupon is a sinking ship
Look at the stock price
Just dead cat bounces since its IPO
I mean depends if he’s looking to job hop
If we're talking about Sunnyvale walmart
That too
Nah
Walmart has a better chance of making a big impact
Sunnyvale is ok with the 115k base and 2K stock but 71k base and 2K stock in Arkansas is bad
Purely from a money standpoint only the west coast Walmart is worth it(Seattle,sv,sv)
But yeah Idk how long groupons gonna last
Yeah Groupon would be good networking but your TC is going to go down every year
I mean the stock looks fine plus u at least get some stock
Groupon ain't bad. 103/11/17
The Walmart stock rsu is 10k total over 4 years or 2.5k per year until 4th year
jeez
After 4th its 10k per year
Yeaaa
But that’s why u might as well take Groupon
Stay for 1-2 yrs and leave for Walmart and get like 200k from Walmart for a senior role LOL
But yeah nvm Walmart if it’s west coast is a better bet
But anywhere else it’s meh(Reston ,Dallas, Hoboken
10% off Walmart employee discount
hmm
I'm sold
Then make my own people of walmart page
make money off ads
supplement income
🤞
L5 at Google is my dream goal
Shilling for Google but it's cool
They lowered their pay
weird flex but go off i guess
Anyone have any insights on Software Dev position at Akuna Capital?
Seen some people say on blind that the turnover rate is high... Never really looked into it tho but yeah seems pretty fast-paced
mmm would you know how I could look more into what people think about Akuna? The reviews don't seem that great on glassdoors but I really enjoyed talking with everyone during the recruitment process
Check on blind
Alright thanks!
can dm me

call to renege or email to renege? seems way less awkward to send an email but then you don't have a confirmation that they've received the notice if they don't respond to the email
wait what could go wrong in a phone call outside of it being awkward?
Not sure. Just no chances of any risks with an email tbh
If you’re cool with your recruiter then by all means
Anyone do Ion group phone interview?
does any one know what it means for amazon to go from under consideration to application submitted. this happened after SDE I vitrual onsite
so i have a final round upcoming with one company but i gave them my availability monday and havent heard back and another company wants my availability to schedule an interview, is it okay to follow up w company 1 and give them a bump asking for an update? or is that too pushy
doesn't it say "moved to another job" if its an offer?
Yeah, but I've also seen people getting application submitted -> offer
might not be the case 100% of the time
Epic is safer
The team is
I feel like for 1st job full stack is more useful
and yeah that's what i got told
Yea I dont think id be working on .net
Typescript or Mobile team maybe
which is trueu
it has became to No longer now😭
Would this rejection response be considered burning bridges lmao?
Is this an April Fools joke? Just kidding ;)
I want to thank you guys for your consideration and great hospitality during the interviews. I had an amazing experience with your process and my interviewers were are all great. If you can, please send them my thanks as well.
If I can ask, does company have any cooldown period to the application process? I would still very much love to work at company.
I'm just saying since i'm including
Is this an April Fools joke? Just kidding 😉
for important communication you want it to be in writing. email would give you proof if things get weird.
how many new grads did amazon hire this year? anyone got an idea? 5k?
are most companies using webstack languages such as react/angular? what about c++/java anymore?
react and angular aren't languages
Anyone done AWS SDE OA? The 90 minute hackerrank 1st of 2 rounds one
whats the best way to find new grad software engineer jobs on linkedin? what do you search?
New grad software engineer
😂
Search software engineer then filter by the experience level and location
i hear wisconsin has good beer and cheese
@ornate charm sometimes the experience level is wrong, I always get jobs with 5+ years in the job desc
Oddly enough the automated catered results (just search for location) are more accurate than when I search
What is the typical SDE1 pay at amazon san diego. I mean is it in the range of seattle pay or in the range of bay area pay?
Typically a seattle SDE1 earns 155k TC while bay area developer earns 170k TC.
Is it because of COL. Is san diego cheaper than seattle ?
Cool thanks.
Anyone have any tips for phone screens with startups??
Look up their values and try to think if you’d fit
lol
what's typical for new grad in chicago
No idea!
probs like 90k?
Most of the nice companies like jpmc, grubhub, banks
do like 90 iirc
How much is that compared to CA
200k
$90k in Chicago is pretty baller
above avg is like 140-150k tc,faangs, famous ipos (doordash, roblox etc) gonna be in that 180-200k bracket
this is in bay area right
ye
sorry context was kind of lost here not sure if you're talking about Chi or high COL
gotcha gotcha
yeah i was like bruh $200k in Chicago is baller status for a new grad in this industry lol
yeah thats for bay
im talking about chicago
I have an offer for 110k chicago Im leaning towards it
I was referring to this LOL
chicago is somewhere between what you could consider mcol and hcol
HCOL is NYC/Seattle/CA
Anyone interviewed for Citrix CVAD team ?
CA being bay area and LA yes, other places in cali with work that isn't so hcol
that's great congrats! 🙂
what is the avg TC for a new grad in bay area?
Ty man
I think 120 right-130
for TC or just base?
130k base 20-50k in bonus/stock
Ty
Nah it’s pretty average for sf
On levels it’s like 160k base lmaoo
130k is pretty normal
For new grad?
Yea
Most tech companies in sf pay lots cause they’re more innovative I guess
Nvidia is 130k base
Almost all my offers were 130k base(Walmart, lob
Looks like 108k here for junior
Nvidia isn’t the best example of an average salary prob
Software test engineers making 130k damn
I mean that’s the type of company ur finding in af
Sf
It’s Silicon Valley knao
Not Kentucky
well it says 108 right here lol
Don’t want someone to think 130 is avg and get bummed for getting lower
Here’s ur same source with junior
Junior ain’t new grad either lmao
What percentage of Bay Area ppl do you think went to Berkeley or Stanford
what's the difference between new grad and junior?
new grad is a subset of junior
junior can be 0-2 years or so
so realistically if we want specifically new grad the Glassdoor number should be bumped down a bit
wait
ty
are you saying the software dev average from Glassdoor is more accurate for new grads than the junior software dev average lol
Yeah 130k in sf is barely above poverty dude
The poverty lines at 90k
Or 70-80k for single los
Nah new grad Bay Area because so many jobs here are disproportionately faang/pre ipo startups the salaries naturally skewed
It’s not like an even split which is why the salary is so high
Freaking Walmart in Arkansas base pay for new grad is 71k u gon tell me sf is only 9k above that LOL
this is fax
not too sure where ur getting ur numbers but here’s Arkansas at 60k
Also no one in the bay calls it junior engineering
Idk why but didn’t learn that term till I saw it recently here
Lmao u gon trash Glassdoor levels and then pull out indeed
Idk do I trust aggregated data or ur anecdotes
where’d I trash Glassdoor
I entered my data in Glassdoor as swe 2
For new grad
It’s just how most people call it here
alright
Again it’s super skewed here when every faang is here and not in Arkansas
Yeah if u get rid of all the high paying new grad jobs the salary goes down to like 80k
But faang didn’t come and choose Silicon Valley for no reason
There’s naturally more talent over here due to the huge uc system and Stanford and cal poly
Like I’m def biased a bit but 115-120k is lowest you’ll see for most top 200 companies
Thanks
Thanks
Dude just stop LMAO
Folks be saying the most outrageous nonsense in here😂😂
And levels.fyi definitely isn’t the average because only big name companies are on there so it’s gonna be skewed upwards
Glassdoor would be better for the average because it includes ALL companies, if you think the average new grad is making 130k tc in the Bay Area you’re talking out of your ass lmao
And this is coming from a California native
Nah I’m gonna stand by that one
Been here in sf for last 7 years gonna bet on my talent and other people’s abilities
you need to realize the taxes + HCOL skew that number heavily
Lol this server is hilarious
Is it a biased view since I’m coming from berk? And yeah we were getting snap benefits at 110k per year
?
Well that explains it
you good bro?
Well no shit Sherlock the Bay Area has good talent lmao
why do you think 130k is too high? you're talkin about Bay Area lol
It’s almost like Stanford, the uc’s, csus, cal tech don’t exist
If you genuinely believe the average Bay Area new grad is making 130k tc idk what to tell you
LOL
130k tc is low bruh
Keyword: average
Yeah and average here is higher than in bum fuck no where
U might laugh and say I’m biased coming from cal
But that’s cause the avg is higher here
130 seems reasonable for the avg
This is tc not base
^
And then I pointed out Glassdoor
Again this is slightly skewed cause 130k base is a lot but total comp is gonna be around this level
Most of my friends who couldn’t get those 130k offers moved to other lower col areas making 70-90k
Higher talent cutoff here
Ah I didn’t see that, sheesh I definitely underestimated the Bay Area salaries
I’m prolly over biased and kinda high so average is likely closer to 115k tc but it’s def not 80k ffs
Well I never said it was as low as 80k obviously lol but I still think 130k isn’t the average, 115k tc average def sounds more reasonable
Holy fuck that google offer
Is that for a new grad?
Now I feel like I could go out and get more money
80K AVG IN BAY?
lol what?????
Yeah idk where that came from lmao
is 200k the min now
I can’t even get an offer I’d take $125k tc at this point
Also I don’t get why y’all are hating on @copper sage he’s right. Even if you’re making over $100k as a new grad, taxes, student loans, and crazy rent mean you could still barely make it in sf
And that’s without the $18 salads your coworkers want to go eat for lunch
When I interned at a company in the city I’d go out with a group of coworkers a couple times a week for coffee. The place they liked had $7/cup coffee
That's flawed thinking. Look at the upsideof working at the bay area. You can grow a lot as opposed to being stuck in a dead beat job in the middle of nowhere
even if you can squeeze a bit more by going to a lcol area there's nothing to do
that's why HCOL areas became HCOL
Yeah it completely depends on what you want. The networking in the Bay Area/New York is insane if you’re in the tech field and want to leverage that. If you work in the Bay Area early on in your career, you’ll create longer and stronger network connections than if you went to a non-tech hub.
This also completely depends on the persons situation too. People making 200k with no student loans and managing their finances wisely in the Bay Area are going to have a lot more money than anyone in the same situation who’s working in a LCOL are for 90k. This is why you should just take your best option depending on your situation.
agree it all just depends on what you’re looking for. for me it’s worth it to live in a big city & spend more $ on rent bc i think i’ll have a much better time socially & make those connections w ppl working at big companies but i also grew up in a HCOL area so it’s less jarring to me than it otherwise would be. i get why someone wouldn’t want that
Yeah a big part of my mental health for me is living in a nice apartment/nice area so I’m spending more money on that but fortunately I have no student loans or debt so I don’t have to worry about those things. For me I’d be depressed if I lived in a LCOL area in a cheap apartment. It’s completely subjective and just depends on your situation and what you want honestly.
genuinely just curious: at this point would you move if you got an offer from somewhere like microsoft? or would you want to take a few years in a LCOL area regardless
Yes
makes sense! im moving from nj -> Seattle for OCI this summer & im definitely nervous abt leaving all my friends and family on the east coast
that was probably my biggest deterrent
Yeah I’m headed to Seattle as well gonna be hard not being close to family but Pacific Northwest is where I saw myself so happy about that
Anyone do the new grad interview with Google? What's the process like after the survey and coding challenge?
@worthy spear I’ve moved around so much as a kid, and of all the places I like SF the best so I want to live here and buy a house. But tbh a giant ranch in Wyoming might be nice some day 🤷🏽♂️
And fam is here; but yeah at that point it becomes more than about career and more about how you want to live your life
I'm scheduling a prep call for my Amazon interview and they said they'd be talking about salary expectations. Do I just dodge those? or should I provide a range
Doesnt Amazon give the same offer to everyone tho lol
why would they even ask about that when they dont negotiate
i guess it depends if it's new grad or sde 1
for new grad i'd assume they would give the same offer to everyone since they're only dealing with college grads who don't have a lot of leverage
whereas sde 1 also includes people with industry experience that might be more niche for their role
thoughts on yext?
anyone do the final round w/ lever?
My dream company and dream job
recruiter told me to apply when closer to my grad season
I'd cry if I worked in their nyc office
and those connections will help you leverage salary negotiations in the future IMO
seattle is beautiful, i hope you enjoy it 🙂
thank you! ive never been so im excited
It's for sde1 afaik. They rejected my new grad application for where I live but I got contacted about working for Prime Video
Anyone have any thoughts on the skills and endorsements on linkedin?
Someone who was giving me a referral told me to update mine before they passed my profile over to someone who had asked for it.
But like... I didn't think anyone actually cared
speaking of seattle any neighborhoods yall would recommend?
Kenmore or Bothel
They're placed pretty well between the north end of lake Washington and right between the i5 and i405
Plus mount lake terrace will be finishing the Link-rail station there pretty soon, so commuting will be super easy
ballard is nice, spent the majority of last year living there and enjoyed the strips and parks
south lake union
i wouldn't consider kenmore or bothell to be neighborhoods of seattle, maybe suburbs.
suburbs are totally fine, just trying to get a sense for the area in general
do you guys think it's worth it to apply to postings that have 2-3yoe as a requirement when you have multiple internships?
i def apply to ones that have 1yoe as a requirement, just wondering if 2-3 is pushing it
There’s no negatives of doing this. If I recall, last fall there was someone in this discord that got hired as a SDE2 at a FAANG and all they had was a lot of internship experience. They might’ve had a masters tho.
everyone tells me to apply to those. The years of experience are just there to scare people away as they aren't very accurate metrics for measuring skill or proficiency
Has anyone here used rooftop slushie
any tips for microsoft OA?
Is it true getting new grad interviews is easier than getting internship interviews?
ime experience it was much as easier to get interviews for internship - late third year onwards - I also found a lot more internship positions compared to new grads
might be because it was pre-covid though
Ditto
Hi everyone. Does anyone have any idea if Facebook going to hire 2021 new grads?
Anybody got an update regarding Better.com New grad after the onsite interview?
Yes, many got a reject today
Are there channels specifically for moving to big tech hubs like Seattle, bay area, etc?
anyone interview with neeva?
Hi guys, I previously was able to find a list of US companies that do visa sponsorship. (https://h1bdata.info/)
Are there any similar lists for openings and/or companies** in other countries** that will sponsor international students for work VISA? (Eg- Germany, UK, Canada, Singapore, Ireland, other European countries etc).
Help much appreciated.
i dont have a list but for germany, someone reached out about a C++ dev position for think-cell
so they are open

just curious when did you start using them
and im glad ur not blasting referral links like the rest of them
Think i registered like 2 weeks ago
they are mostly fine, dont get me wrong, but i saw first hand the "referral" spam
but def feels more oriented towards ds/business people
oh thank goodness
someone who knows
bro every time i ask i feel like its a pyramid scheme
yeah
100% good for people looking for east coast/mid west jobs tho
makes sense but what students do to boost themselves lol
lots of data/business/finance shit
yeah i peeped that
but wait
say i have an internship this summer
and i get a match
can i still use the match to apply and when should i do that
i think u could still interview normally
I get like 2 texts and like a few emails every day from ripplematch
thats supposed to be normal?
how is ripplematch for canada?
Google had briefly opened the new grad position in the US around first week of March. Did anyone hear back?
Did anyone graduated/graduating from University of Connecticut?
Need some information
My friend is graduating from grad school at UConn in a few weeks
Best time to start looking for new grad roles if you’re graduating April 2022? Ideally hoping to start in late summer or September
late summer - fall 2021
thanks homie
What about for the Dec 2021 grads?
same time
i got an oa from them a week ago
has anyone interviewed with bloomberg recently? are they still hiring?
I tbink they closed the app
@placid marlin
I applied a week ago and got auto rejected
@fiery otter i see... i also applied last week but have not heard back yet. I see now that the position is no longer on the website though
@fiery otter i hope so....
they hire on a rolling basis so there's gna be a new posting at some point
You mean in summer or directly in fall?
i'd be surprised if there wasnt a new one before the summer
But they just opened in March last month
Is it how frequent they hire new grads, didn’t know that
tbh i'd just say i don't know but here's my best guess based on my prior understanding and here's how i'd go about finding the answer
you say you dont know or you try to guess if u can
don't think there's much else you can do, if you try and bullshit it'll be totally obvious lol
just say you’re not really sure so they know tho
!process Stackline offer
You can only use this command in #2021_grad_process or #2021_intern_process
Are you able to apply to 2022 new grad positions if u are a 2021 new grad working for a year?
You can, depends on the company. Some companies allow you to apply if you graduated during the past 6 months, some even if you graduated a year ago
Wait so u can apply for 2022 grad positions
If u graduate in may this year m?
This year?
@fiery otter Yes for most companies
How do u know? Have u done this before?
@rough atlas My friend did he was working for GS for 6 months after graduating in 2020 and then started at Amazon as New Grad in Feb this year
oh i know amazon just doesnt look at resume much though
Plus if you looked up requirements for 2021 grads you can see the mention eligibility
*mentioned
i remember sometimes they say "currently enrolled in BS..."
Yeah not all companies allow but many do
Some allow recent graduate
what's ohio
are there any canadian folks looking for referrals?
Anyone who has given GS coderpad interview?
Anyone interviewed with wish. Please ping me
Did anyone complete Amazon phone interview recently?
This one SDE1 not New Graduate role
Anyone go through Amazon/AWS SDE (not new grad) onsite process? I have my final round coming up
I didn't have phone, I had a test in place of an interview.
But it was AWS SDE
i feel like amazon just ghosted me after I got rejected from the new grad role
anyone else here done qualtrics hiring manager interview?
maybe stockx and quicken loans?
everyone i know in michigan usually just ends up at gm or chrysler
yeah so far everything has gone really well, had a really good interviewing experience w the phone and onsite. mostly just worried bc the hiring manager interview is also a technical so i'm not sure the lvl of difficulty to expect
Where do you guys check job postings these days.? I used to follow intern postings here earlier. Now these tabs seems dead
Do u know how much StockX swe pays
80k base in Oakland CA it seems
Yeah unsure if they’d shift it up or down ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Yo would you guys take an 1 hr 30 min commute by train one way (3hr total) for free rent?
In a HCOL area
Hey how are RSUs taxed? Do we get the full amount offered every year or are they taxed before given to us
depends on your comp ig
you pay income tax on the vest amount and capital gains tax on the appreciation from there
Hello, I am graduating next Spring 2022 and would like to know when the grad application normally starts...thank you!!
Did you ever find out?
I do 1hr 30 min commutes once a week for something I do right now
it's not
especially if it's daily
You spend 1/8 of your day just driving
and you get so tired
You'll burn out really fast
probably totally depends on how much you're being paid
if you're paid 60k in HCOL it's probably worth
if you're being paid 700k then probably not worth
It's between 75k and 100k
i think that's up to you to make that judgement call then, but also consider if you're going to be spending that time doing other stuff, whether it be sleeping, going to the gym, hanging out w friends, etc. and if that time alone is worth it to you
is the apartment nice?
I think a 30 minute one way is bad
It's either I share a 2 bedroom from someone I know from college (decent I guess not amazing) or do the 1hr 30 min train commute lol
I don't really care about alone time but I do care about applying to companies and leetcoding. That's my main concern
I would have to take a day off to interview if I needed to
what part of Texas?
considering you can rent out a pretty comfy studio place for <$1.5k/mo
you'd be living pretty comfortably
even more so if you have roommates
what’s the best way to search for new grad job listings now? i’ve already exhausted linkedin jobs but not sure where to look now.
How hard is Jane Street/ Jump trading and HRT interview process?
on the harder end
Has anyone interviewed for Associate Support engineer at SAP?
sheesh
had a coworker who lived in San Jose and commuted to SF 5 times a week. I think he hated himself tho
Maybe look at Rivian, I think they are close to there?
StockX
I think Rivian is mostly Palo Alto for engineering, idk about other functions. there is a small office in Irvine so maybe
Oh I thought I remember seeing Michigan. I could be totally wrong
ive linked rivian with midwest
A quick query, do we keep this country name to where we are applying or where we currently live in? Note - It's workday application first page
I have mine this wednesday. Anybody who took it recently, what's the format?
How's PayPal SWE culture like?
ik a couple people on the honey team and they seem to like it there
Where you currently live
damn even better then
Has anyone done Nordstrom hirevue ?
How good is a Hudson River trading offer vs a Jane street offer?
Which would give u more recognition in the tech world?
imagine getting the choice to choose between the two
cant relate
id say jane street
i think they have more assets, you can tell i dont see much difference

anyone interviewing at SAP?

Been reading online that apple can take up to a month to finalize an offer letter or rejection.. the anxiety
I might, I was told i'd hear back

no
would be great if anyone could provide insight: how does your response rate compare to junior year when you were applying for internships?
I am making an application using React, so I am iterating over an array which has more than 100000 elements. I am modifying "src" of an image using value of these elements. But seems like its taking lot of time. Any idea how to solve this?
Has anyone received any updated from CVS Health for DS/DE position?
So what i want to implement is lazy loading. I have implemented it in some way although it only works for less number of images, i have more than 100000 number of images.
when i was in junior year (last year), I got 2 interview, 1 offer from 200 applications. this year (graduating this august) i'm applying to ft and internships, so far 350 apps, ~5 interviews, no offers
are you returning each <img> as a separate component?
about the same for me! i applied to ~50-60 places, probably got to some form of next step (coding challenge, etc.) for ~10 companies, & ended up w 3 offers (1 return, 2 from the recruiting cycle).
sorry the above was in response to this
oof so the extra internship didn't help too much?
honestly i think it was still useful! i probably did a little better than the year before. but also COVID has fucked w hiring
this is really good! and thanks for sharing 😁
it was a PM internship. ironically i've only gotten ft interviews for SWE not PM this year lol. i'm sure it'd be much harder if i didn't have it though.
i see. and yeah I almost forgot that new grad hiring this year was much more tough 😦 thanks btw!
np

Hey, about to do the online technical screen, could you tell me about it?
which role?
is it like... normal for virtual onsites to be 5 hours of back to back technicals? is it reasonable to ask if half can be scheduled on another day?
most of my onsites were 4-5 hours
there was a 30 min break between half of the whole onsite usually though
but you can ask to do half on another day, worst case is they say no
^
thats what im gonna start doing
can u share some ket
pop an adderall or some shit lmfaooo oh my god
i unironically eat salt lmao
check ur dms
I just want some techno
Anyone heard of Verkada? Reputable startup?
i want som slutmanfatass pls
i dont think ket is the right substance for a technical interview
idk bout u but i can only solve leetcode on ket
kinda legendary ngl
I have a phone interview for SE role in which they will ask Computer Science fundamentals. Any tips on that? What questions should i focus on?
probably go over data structures and time complexities? sorting stuff? did they just say cs fundamentals in general?
https://reactjs.org/docs/fragments.html might be looking for this then
Yes
Thanks! But i think this won't help in my case.
just guessing here but cs fundamentals might include common classes cs majors take like operating systems/networking in addition to algorithms mentioned above
Depends on the job you want
You don’t need it (never took it as a course and got a job)
If you want to get into systems work (robotics, high frequency trading) then you need it
Otherwise nah
Did google post any apprenticeship roles in swe for 2021 (US)?
Yeah I went through the last round of AWS SDE-1, got rejected though on 3/2
with this daily prayer i come forth with humblness, asking for merely a $150K tc offer. don't even need perks at this point.

when is the 2022 grads channel coming
had a chime call with a hiring person to prep for the onsite, they sent me the sde3 prep packet and scared the shit out of me 😆
Idk 2021 grads haven’t graduated yet 💀
is there a way to look for '22 postings? I'm still seeing '21 grads postings only
has it actually tho? i haven’t seen any postings, isn’t it too early?
'22 recruiting hasn't really started wat
I haven't seen any postings for '22 grads lol
Yes we gotta keep grinding
Yeah there is def hope still. just keep applying and work on the side projects
and leetcode
@subtle grove there is! just check LinkedIn jobs every morning and you’ll see on avg 5 new job postings
Monday and Thursday mornings have the best pickings in my experience
@worthy spear ok maybe $125k lmaooo
Hey guys, I accepted a FT return offer for Amazon on the portal a few months ago but I haven't signed yet. I'm in the process of interviewing with Twitch. Do you think Amazon will make Twitch rescind my offer if I renege Amazon, even though I haven't technically signed yet?
Can someone explain please this 'Try to solve this task in O(n) time using O(1) additional space'? I get O(n) time part but what does it mean when it says O(1) additional space? Does it mean we can use an additional space of O(1) other than the O(1) that is normally used by an algorithm (something like twice the space)?
Thank you in advance!
additional space of O(1) means if you pass in a list of n numbers you cannot create a new list to hold n values
the length of whatever you're creating has to have constant length
I suppose it means, the working memory actually used is constant no matter how large the input size
it means create a list of SIZE_MAX values because that's still O(1)
Anybody who is starting as a FTE this summer know if they will be remote or not?
I believe summer will be remote for /most/ though there's starting to be plans to transition to in-person
ot
esp bc vaccination
^ this is true for roblox at least
most companies r doing sept
I believe Amazon said July 1st return date unless somebody knows for sure (that's what I got from a friend)
Walmart july 5
no, they mean you can't duplicate the array or create a new array
i finally got an interview with a decent company after applying since like august so there is some hope
let's hope i don't bomb it LOL
you got this!
Kinda the same case at bloomberg and for the same reason (vaccination)
It's already possible to go into the office actually, but I think very few engineers are doing that (mostly client-facing or news ppl have a need to actually be in the office)
Would be an honor to start professional career at _____
If u saw that as a recruiter as ur subject line
What would u think
Does this channel also include Fall 2021 grads?
Cause I don't know when new grad positions for fall grads open
Does this also include positions that start in spring?
I'm looking to start ft january hopefully
I don't want to wait till next summer
even if the initial posting specifies a start date of summer?
that's kind of relieving
I mean it's usually just like a generic New Grad app when you apply
Does google onsite ask system design for new grad?
anyone done snap new grad?
i just did and have my onsite coming up
HAHAHA hardly i have no offers rn 😭
it was fine, like 20 min behavioral and 40 min technical, had a lc medium dp problem
nothing crazy
that was my reaction too LOL
did u have like a 15 min "intro" call beforehand w a recruiter too?
before the screen
yeah i did, idk if you already had it but she just told me about the role and the timeline and asked if i was in process w any other companies etc
she didn't even ask about my resume or anything lol
Seems kinda pointless but aight
lmao yeah it kinda was
i think they're just trying to make sure we're on the same page about the type of role and the process etc
i see. thx
when you solve a DP problem do you do brute force and then optimize/memoize?
or do you just jump into the correct solution
depends on whether i want to do tabulation or memoization but if it's memoization i do the brute force recursion and then memoize it if it's tabulation it probably makes the most sense (to me) to jump straight into the correct solution
since a lot of dp problems can probably also be solved with dfs/bfs but inefficiently i might discuss that (if i know it or can easily arrive at it) and describe why the runtime might be bad and how i can improve on that w dp
ok, fs. thanks!
I just say no thank you and immediately exit out of any interview i get a dp
leaves zoom meeting
^ me at the current moment
no. recruiter just told us this
is amazon still hiring 2021 new grads SWE?
If anyone has accepted an offer from Dataminr, could you please DM me? I have a few questions
Any advice for prepping for Byteboard interviews?
@warm path
I want to implement infinite scrolling(without using library) and lazy loading using React. Moreover, user should be able to jump to any spot on the page regardless the content is loaded or not. Any resource for that?
whats google/fb process? aiming for 2022 new grad role at one of the two
how do they generally make a decision when you have an onsite with around 4 independent interviews/interviewers? Do you need to pass all? Majority vote? Or is it subjective
ty!
graduating during a panoramic and trying to leetcode grind just so i can find a job during a panoramic is so.... heartbreakingly painful
panoramic
Anyone who interviewed at wish before?
What questions can i expect in wish tech video interview first round
How difficult would you say the coding challenge was? I just got my oa today and I am simultaneously stoked and piss scared haha
Well that is at least more comforting :P
This is my first bigger oa so I'm just freaking a lil
😂

how strict is google with gpa and academic requirements as opposed to experience
i was hoping my experience would offset my horrible grades
Everyone getting google OAs and I’m just sitting here like
do they have new positions open?? to be getting oa's this late
na i think this all from the one
that opened up in march
they prob still recruiting
the only positions i see are open abroad and not in the US lmao
depends on the company's hiring bar
anyone know how long facebook/Google consider you a new grad after graduation?
Alright final polling: Arkansas Walmart or Groupon which is most likely remote
Leaning Walmart because Groupon seems like a failing company and I’ll just try to leave Walmart after a year for something better and not in Arkansas
Zoom is one of Silicon Valley’s most exciting & relevant tech companies. New innovations + incredible growth means... we're opening more roles for 21' University Grads & Interns w/ backgrounds in CS n technical business skills!
Peep the thread below to gather the deets + share!
yes
I applied for the new grad last month
And got my google oa today
I’m gunna be a summer ‘21 grad. If I apply during the fall season do those jobs start in the winter or the next summer ?
