yeah seems like its targeting different types of problems

it's better to do that instead of mindlessly switching problems I guess

about time colleges have an interview prep course

they teach everything except the most important part of landing offers

yeah it does target different patterns and it really helped me with the pattern recognition part of leetcode and applying those patterns to different types of problems. it def gave me a more concrete framework to build from when doing leetcode instead of doing totally random questions from leetcode site lol. i also think it worked better than ctci for me because the way ctci is organized/the way it presents problems doesn't really build from easy to hard very well imo

@humble flume I had a friend in my uni (top 50) that had a 3.3 gpa that got an interview with janestreet but he had an internship high school, freshman year, and sophomore year. However, he got blacklisted are the phone screening (next year, auto reject within 5 minutes of applying lmao).

However, I think for most of those firms, it's usually research experience or some top tier tech company internship + top 10 university + 3.7 gpa min is what I've heard in general from limited conversation with people who have gotten offers there

So usually a company will give you Restricted Stock Options (can only speak on those since I have those) and over a period of time they will vest meaning you can either cash or sell them. Selling them will count towards your income and usually you hold onto them if you believe your company will grow in value over time.

you can definitely survive off of base from a decent amount of companies but it's good to diversify your stock and not hold all your eggs in one basket (if you held amazon or tesla or any tech stock though, you'd be making bank so ¯_(ツ)_/¯ )

They termed it a "2 year commitment," my girlfriend had to do the same thing when she became a new grad nurse (its more common in that field). I think usually if you want to break it, you need to give sufficient warning and there is a financial penalty. I've heard they can range from a couple thousand slap on the wrist to pretty bad amounts.
I think they do it to lessen turnover and get their ROI on the training they provided the new grads but its definitely more bizarre in this field

What are some important questions to ask about funding etc. and basic fundamentals if you are interviewing for a startup and want to know if they are a good bet or not?

depends a lot on total funding

often series D and onward are later stage startups but if series A-C were just very low funding rounds then maybe it's not indicative of anything

In my limited experience, stealth mode tends to mean “we don’t have stuff in order and aren’t ready to be held accountable”

unless you’re working for a lab at an established company like Google x or whatever it is

There was a startup in SF who was in stealth mode for like 10 months and the investors are like what’s happening. Turned out they outsourced all their development to India and the engineer they hired said everything had to be rebuilt from scratch

yeah that makes sense. They're well funded enough to potentially sponsor my visa as an international student tho 🧐 And the founder says they are "extremely well-funded". but yeah it's definitely risky regardless of their funding and how promising their pitch looks rn.

how is the job market for new grads right now? i see all companies says they are hiring but i still khow many who have not got offers. graduating this may. personally i have applied to 300 companies and i got 4 interviews all reject. tired of applying. what to do? apply more?contacting recruiters on linkedin also seems like a dead end. is the pre covid hiring spree back?

i'm in a interview process for a 2 year one at a huge engineering company, and i'll take anything at this point but 2 years is a long time

I think they're fine, as long as you think you'll enjoy the work and you'll get valuable experience

i think i would, but my only worry is this place in general made it sound like they were expanding their software dev teams a ton and i didn't get a good idea of the existing teams i'd rotate into

If you're doing rotations, you're bound to get into at least a few teams you'll like. And since they're expanding a lot, maybe they're looking into developing new products and such ? That would be exciting
