#2021_summer

Can I apply to it with my summer 2021 internship on it 🤡
Wait what no way its opening this late for 2021
They're still hiring fall 2021 so probably that
Anyone had experience on doing interviews while interning at your current company?
Like it takes 2 hours in the middle of a day, should I just ghost my colleagues?
Please share any opinions you might have, much appreciated!

say your wifi will be down for electricity work, pulled that last year and worked smooothh
That's juts genius, thanks boss
anyone got experience with docusign android intern technical round?
Still open for other suggestions, electric work can only work one or 2 times right?
should i be focusing on studying android question or more data structures and algorithms?
Nah always works
Jus make sure you keep the same energy
Otherwise ur moving sus
Bc it actually happened once
And I shat bricks
Thanks man, but do you mean after 5pm? Interviewers don't get mad?😂
tyronn lue ur a coach you know when ur players miss practice
PDT, west coast
Yeah ppl get off work around then so it’s though
should I have talked to my manager by now if my start date is in a month?
true
about what the project is about etc.
yeah me and the team both west coast, interviewing after work not so possible
Sorry I couldn’t get ur message seems like ur internet has issues
great coaching
Thanks coach
😂
doesn't look so bad right? if it's back to back interviews then I can use internet/electric strat plus lunch time
niiice bro, I'll use this line, makes the story so real
oops i tried reacting and it deleted
but yea just say sum like that and itll sound legit
thanks man, I recited that already
is it fine to email a recruiter and asked them if the technical interview will be focused more on android concepts or data structure concepts?
yup just frame it as u want to best prepare urself for the interview and u wanted to know what the interview will consist of
if a job poosting has kubernetes/aws as a requirement but you don't have experience with it, would it be an auuto ding?
u should apply to anything if its an internship role!
unless its some masters/grad level internship, all is fair game
for people in austin,tx, how are yall finding rooms? is extended stay any good? or should i try to find something near the university
Guys, do your school require you to register for an internship course for the summer?
If yes, how long would it take from the date you apply for it till the date it appears on your Canvas page?
I submitted mine back in April 5th and I still have not seen any changes yet so I am a bit nervous
it'll depend a lot on your school i think
Is there any place still hiring for summer?
My previous internship offer is likely going to cancel
a lot
look on linkedin, indeed
pocket gems, wepay
intel
may i ask what might have caused it?
They just realized I'm in a different timezone
Oh no I’m fucked
We require proof of self-employment (Tax Documents or any proof which proves your self-employment) to proceed.
I got this from my background check
The problem is, I never incorporated the startup I had
And it didn’t get to the point where I made money
So I don’t have those documents
Awesome, now I’ll graduate without an internship
there has to be a way to circumvent that
I would clarify those with the recruiter, he/she is the one to say whether you passed the check
I don’t think recruiters would cancel your offer for that small issue
Yeah bring it up
i had a similar issue. can u contact the place u worked at to make a letter documenting ur job and how long u worked?
if they pass up on u now, they will have a hard time replacing u for the summer. They wont rescind
how did you portray this on your resume?
as long as it didnt sound like you're a startup founder you'll be fine
why? if you say you founded the startup then i think it's fine bc they'll know that you're the one that owns it
basically what i meant to say was, if the resume implies some monetary gain then yeah they might force you to show proof of that
like if you say "founded X company and generated $yy revenue" then you have to prove that
Get into contact with your recruiter asap, mention that you didn't incorporate your startup. You could ask if there's other documents you can submit
@ruby crescent hi
yall still think its possible to get an internship for this summer? 😂
yeah it definitely is
companies always hiring
big tech is pretty much done hiring but smaller companies and startups will still have openings
i know zoom had openings recently
and some startups on linkedin
last year i was a freshman with a faang and i currently have nothing for this summer so i’m still extremely hopeful😭
I think I saw salesforce open some apps up too
For summer 2021
sorry not Salesforce
ServiceNow
has anyone applied to CodePath SITE? by any chance
I started the application for it but forgot to finish it 🤡
i turned in the prework weeks late bc i was exposed to covid on campus so i had to quarantine for a few weeks😭
this recruiting season has been hell 🙁
ooof
Hope you're feeling a lot better now
Wtf
Can I ask what do u think happened
I would have thought faang would mean future baller
Amazon?
depression🙈
STEP?
yeah
Nice
i got interviews this year too i just wasnt even close to being in the mental state to prepare for any of them😭
Rip
Yeah I was equally unprepared towards the start of the year
I bombed my Amazon OA around New Years so I started 2021 with a rejection from Bezos lmao
And then it went quickly downhill from there until I joined this server
Awww that sucks man
depression hits hard
U can still find something if u put ur mind to it i believe
i bombed amazon, microsoft, bloomberg, robinhood, AND oracle😭
If not just take a break
but now im working harder than ever so its okay🥲

Hope you find something soon my dude
thank yall
Grind will pay off
Honestly, this server is also pretty great for motivation lol
Ya
Ppl here are usually pretty nice and love to see each other succeed
I actually can't recall anyone flexing here
i forgot i had joined a while back tbh im glad i checked today
Yeah I don't think anyone really flexes
Like sure they'll show off offers from big companies
Prob cuz the T5 school kids r too busy flexing w their friends
But they'll never rub it in other ppl's faces
Lmfao
Yeah it really is lol
Has anyone requested time off during a summer internship before?
Oh bruh thanks for reminding me
I'm in a really similar situation lol
Going on a vacation around July 4th too
I don't think they'll revoke your offer
You'll just not get paid for those days I think
Since interns are hourly employees
You could try emailing your hiring manager/recruiter
Oh rip
Is this a small company or big company
If it’s a big company it doesn’t matter most of the time
With small companies it varies
Ah I have before because I had a scholarship interview in DC (interning in Seattle)
Kinda I did some work while I was at the airport
is this for Salesforce?
yep, usually whichever HR person who contacted you about it can also work
Yes
😔
I was really looking forward to the internship
I hope contacting HR helps 😔
should be fine, if this is for somethin like work auth.
Should be fine, just let your manager know
Now and 2 weeks beforehand as a reminder
bruh y'all ever email to expedite then get left on read
U ever negotiate for salary then get left on read
Y'all ever just get left on read
Yep
gotta sharpen those pickup lines on tinder
lol
facts
Hi. Freshman in CS at T15. 2 semesters of C++. Basic data structures and just got to BST and lists. I am interested in second language aquisition, NLP, and computational linguistics. Are there any relevant internships/work experience still available?
I made fatal mistake by waiting too long but I want to get off my butt and try things out.
Linkedin seemed to have positions many places but require PhD standing for relevant work in the topics ive mentioned
try not to overthink it, it'll be fine. as long as you can contact the HR/recruiter and explain everything, then they will help you out. You should probably call them if you can
help out a prof for research this summer. that aligns with ur interests
try emailing startups
also i think ycombinatr has a resource
Most of them just ghost in my experience
Where do you get this information from?
I just applied to it lol
@charred roost For summer?
Intel phone interview. What to expect guys ?
Yeah
i would aim for swe for now -- your intuition is right that most places that offer research/ML internships look almost exclusively for grad students
how to find startups?
gotcha. thank you
ok cool. emailed some ppl
AngelList is a good place to look
thank you both.
Wtf I applied to place last night at like 2am
And got a call from a recruiter just now
They saw I did something with aws and were asking me about my AWS experience
And I was just like uhhh i never did any work directly with aws I just have a bit of exposure to it
And the recruiter was just like rip
what place?
LOL I have FAANG intern experience and have nothing for this summer too. Fuck all those who say we're "set for life"
was your response rate any good?
Don’t look at it
has anyone here interviewed with waymo b4
Anyone review for cloudflare security engineer position
hey guys, has anyone dome adobe before and know if they might be docking my pay if my place of living is outside the bay area?
If it's a remote position I don't think they'll dock your pay
You'll just be paying California taxes rather than your own state's taxes
If anyones looking for a summer internship still, apply to Equinix
Just got hit up by a recruiter
has anyone done adobe from out of state before
@noble sand @runic tinsel genuinely curious how does that happen
like surely you got interviews?
did u just not LC...?
probably poor LC skills
and limited applications
just because ur got into faang doesnt mean u cant apply to companies worse than faang
which faang?
Coke is just chad
How'd ur mars landing go at nasa?
did people who worked in seattle remotely to the bay get pay docked?
for any company, doesn't have to be adobe
It's wrong to asssume it's only leetcoding because I know tons of people who've gotten offers even though they cant solve a harder medium.
I at least have only h eard back from 1 company that's "below" FAANG
I never applied to the underclassman faang/big n apps but maybe those interview processes are just easier
Also don’t mean to trash on OP’s skills, just tryna find objective explanation lol because faang is supposed to be good for resume
What’s the amazon underclassman one, propel, leap, glide, yeet, etc
I dont even know
Ur only screwed if you’re punching above a certain class of company lol
Half the F500 will take you
Then again they might actually see big name on resume and assume ur overqualified
No cap i can see that happening
I mean the low n mid tier companies
this mustve been why i didnt get a jane street interview
how would you guys move an internship to fall when you already signed the offer letter? pls help
I mean yeah imagine ur at big boy berkeley and apply to raisin canes. Theyre rejecting ur reneging ass
I just wanted free chicken
I miss raising caines
Loved that shit when I was at ASU
But UIUC don't have one on campus 😠
Would internships reject u
If u have decent precious internship experience
Or that's not a thing
just because they can get an offer without being able to solve a medium doesnt mean that u can
sometimes ur just unlucky and get only meds/hards on ur interview
they're really just trying to objectively explain right
if youre getting past resume screen and failing, its def a matter of interviewing skills
whether it be behavioral skills or technical skills
that is a healthy mindset to have insofar as it motivates u to keep grinding lc
but bear in mind you can pass resume screen, ace technical (and behavioral i suppose but that's hard to define), and now you're being compared to other candidates who did the same
in which case rng strikes again
so just be honest with yourself on if you can improve
everyone knows the process is rng
but there is no RNG in being able to solve an LC hard
i remember a few freshman/soph programs doing this
yea dropbox launch said no prior internship exp in their requirements
Requirements
Currently a second-year student in a Bachelor’s degree program
Pursuing a computer science (or similar) degree
You are 18 years or older by commencement of internship program (May 2021)
No prior software engineering experience or internships
Programming experience in Python (or other object-oriented programming languages)
I think the question was meant as a hidden barrier
Bc explicitly stating that is your fault for even applying and expecting any success
I think for big 4 accounting firm
Yeah that's been my season in a nutshell. Mostly hards
bruh I've just not been getting interviews
I honestly forget what they're called
maneater or some shit lmao
mantech
I applied fora few companies but struggling to find ones that arent so gatekeepy with min requirements
Are companies super serious about min requirements or
Is it not that serious, like is there a chance I apply and get the position even if I'm way under reqs?
Additionally when should the LC grind commence
aq
Right now
Yes you can still apply and have a shot
apply to everything lmao
out of the womb
Do u guys think I'm behind if my mom wasnt grinding LC while she was pregnant w me
has anyone negotiated equity for a part-time startup internship before?
does anybody know how to calculate bi-weekly pay for cali lol
I think there's a calculator for it online
My recruiter ended up saying
:/ this doesn’t really help
It’s not clear that there’s anything I can do at this point
so summer 2022 grind when
Had Goldman Sachs final round for summer 2022 today
what the fuck
lmao
I can't tell if that's a cap
no
the best time to start was when you were in your mother's womb
it's too late now
(obviously joking, it's never too late unless you're dead)
prob gonna start when my semester ends
this year im pretty much zoning in on leetcode i think
It’s not lol
Bruh WTF
Why did i not start coding out of the womb
Or in my past life if i had one
is that actually for next summer or is it for this summer
this is cracked
I dont want to spam with images but here you go.
this should be outlawed
i figured theyd be starting- didnt think they be having final rounds lmao
even my interviewer thought it was for 2021
Lmfao
LMAO
bruh i'm dead i swear i will not apply to next summer
right now
out of principle but also because i will fail, applying concurrently with chads
Anybody did consumertrack OA? How hard is it?
You’re in consumertrack final?
Ahh
does GS do fall
lmao companies are still hiring for 2021 and people got it for 2022
yo poggo
r u still beautiful
as u should
i don’t even have a summer 2021 internship and ppl already getting interviewed for 2022 🤢
Mood
anybody else interview with waybridge?
Nah companies are still hiring
Which ones
Intel doesn’t sponsor
Oh rip
For interns yeah
i don't think so
ok phew
i don't wanna worry about applying for new grad until after my summer internship lol
i mean i will LC this summer but yeah
Lol yea
Would like some breathing room
summer 2041 already started
u didnt hear abt the newborns doing lc hards in under 5 minutes?
@runic tinsel nope
I'm still applying and getting responses
Just fiend linkedin
Like soooo hard
A lot of big non tech companies are opening up internships now, too
what should u do if u dont have an internship now
(if ur not looking for tech internships – idk if anyone will have advice on this)
and waht companies are opening up internships
hmm ur right
fr? half of their employees are on h1b 😂
Aska prof for research? Or s project
yah still waiting to hear back from some profs :3
You can also work on a project
Maybe learn some new skills
And out them on ur resume
If anyone is still looking for summer I think Nutanix released a couple positions recently
they pay like 47/hr
@ancient sentinel yeah
Check daily
You have to fiend tho
Out of like 100
I got 3 responses
Yeah just mass apply
Ducc pfp is a mood
it depends I had one company respond to my app in 10 minutes and other in 2 weeks
@ancient sentinel yeah it can take a while
So far all of my responses have been after 2-3 weeks
Minus one
Nope
Sophomore
You?
Ngl LinkedIn final as a sophomore
Kinda impressive
But still
Even getting an interview at a big tech company as a sophomore is hard
The fact that you made it to LinkedIn final says a lot
This shits tough, but you've got this
do u have to write cover letters for the ones ur applying to? or is it jusr ur resume
Honestly same
A month or two ago out of 300 apps I got intuit
And that was it
But I kept applying and now I'm in the pipeline for a few places that I'd be happy to work for
It really is
The only thing you can do is keep trying
And honestly if you keep at it you'll get somewhere
We're sophomores so even if we didn't get anything this year, we'd be chilling
Next year's the one that really counts
Thanks man!
You too
Keep at it and you'll get something I promise
you rarely need to write a cover letter
... wild pokemon
just like me
oh true, i have a good owner 🥺
nope
we chilling

I thought only quant interns randomly got pay increases out of nowhere
how long should it take to solve LC hards
LC medium is 10-20min right
is LC hard 45min to 1 hour?
Depends on your goals
But generally you may not even have to solve them
Have never encountered a Lc hard on an actual interview
interesting
my goal is for new grad 2022
the only hard i got at onsites for internships this year was at google, i just found it on leetcode randomly lol. i had a mostly working solution but didn't do it quite right, but somehow passed.
however, i assume for new grad the bar will be higher and i will actually need to be able to solve it correctly and optimally like a medium?
Maybe i need to take a chill pill
takes me 2-3 hrs to solve a medium
but i havent taken an academic dsa class so im chill
pro tip: they dont help
heavily disagree
maybe at berk its different 🤣
i mean my csa class def helped me to understand fundamentals
yea but ive self studied a bit
but i havent learnt jack abt the common patterns so idrc abt the time it takes as long as im learning
naw im not imao
ok that i can agree with
cp and cm kids are in their own world
whats cp cm
competitive programming and competitive math
what year of hs?
senior
tbh you already looking decently prepared to hit the ground running freshman year
you know what school you're going to yet?
Commited Uw madison a while back
yep thats fs
no hes not
hes ahead of like 99.99%
dracos is in a great spot to get step/explore
Idw step/explore tbh
I want the normal swe one or a unicorn which is a long shot but imma see what happens lol
was the posting open online?
@gaunt mirage don't give up man
Id applied to 400 with nothing a month ago, butmy past 100 or so apps have given me a ton of responses
As long as you keep trying you can get something
It's hard but it'll pay off
r u getting through resume screens or r u failing the interviews/OAs?
I think I'm getting through some resume screens
I've done like 10 interviews
yeah
how many you at now?
no pain no gain
Those are possible freshman year but getting STEP/explore would be fantastic too
i can "fake" sophomore bc i have enough credits so i think it might open a few doors
Yeah that's worth doing for sure
probably like 500
wait I miscounted
I was at ~300 with nothing
I checked my spreadsheet and I'm at 372
angel list?
angel list especially has a high response rate
im lowkey a bum btw
small startups
Yeah companies are always hiring so you can find something
i dont really leetcode
decent grades, 3.7 gpa
@viscid holly
You can still land one without leetcode
um
if you don't have a ton of experience, startups are the move
good way to learn a ton
Some are unpaid but some are paid as well
yeah
I see I see
shop around
i was just scared
i heard if i dont land an internship this summer im gonna get screwed in the job hunt for next year
i did apply to places this fall but it was mainly a bust lmfao
not necesarily
farthest i got was interview with barclays
like there's so many cs jobs out there
i really dont wanna leave my home state either and go to bumbleville, mississippi
Not really
You said you have previous experience right.
?*
no
like it may not be faang but it'll be something that still pays really well for only a bachelors
none at all
I see
You can still get a job without internships
im also a math major
if I'm gonna be honest, it'll be tougher than if you had internships
Most people don't have internships anyways
but it's still very doable
Ik a ton of people who never did internships or anything
and ended up working at like
Yeah it'll be a little more difficult since there's no experience on your resume but you can definitely get one
hopefully with some experience this summer it could happen
yeah idk
its crazy some people in my school have like 2-3
and im like holy shit
Do you have any personal projects you've worked on?
and thats when i realized grades dont matter
Like an app or a hackathon project
Or even class projects
i have an idea for one and I was gonna use this summer to develop it
yes i have class projects
You can put those projects on your resume
It can show that you gave atleast some experience programming
honestly my advice for u is to fiend angel list as well
apply to anything and everything
it is on my resume
tbf i only applied to mainly banks in the winter
and like ibm, lockheed for data science
Yeah just keep browsing Angel List and LinkedIn
I'm constantly seeing listings for summer 2021
would i be able to find something data science related?
or am i screwed in that regards
Data Science?
like AI/ML?
Yeah that could be why
AI/ML could be difficult
It is no doubt
Don't most AI/ML positions ask for masters students
It’s not even that
just data science
Like that’s true
But it’s worse
so should i just aim for software engineering?
Bruh data analysis is data analyst
i wanted to do data science or quant work as my career in the future
Sure
hopefully i can look around for different job titles maybe
This should be a linkedin search for data analyst intern positions
That have opened up recently
So you could go through this list
im curious tho
Don’t take just my word for it
at this point ill do anything related to my field
ill apply everywhere
i just need something
for salvation
Like when I say it’s worse I mean it’s not the data science with ML like most ppl here love and enjoy
But often ur tasks are like that of a data analyst
You can have a data scientist who just does data engineering most of the time
what does a data analyst do
Just look that part up
bet
anyone knows where to find university recruiters' emails?
@lunar dagger do you know if recruitors are able to see the resume you uploaded on angel or can they only see the profile you built on the site
ok i was wondering if i should really pump up the profile or just let them see my resume
Yeah they can see your resume
This worries me. The internship starts in 3 weeks.
Worst case scenario talk to your manager when the internship starts?
I'm not sure what else to do tbh
Besides sending more emails
IBM already rejected me for 2022 summer internship
I k ow right you can improve so much in just a few months
Yep start applying for summer 2022 in August
yeah i dont think those apps will close anytime soon
im not sure for myself but i think a few weeks before my internship ends ill apply
Actually I had an ibm application for summer 2022 close on Friday

wait so that means new waves is a new application posting?
bc of all places, i dont think they finish first
Wtf how why in earth are they so early
next thing you know we're doing applications for summer 2024 in spring 2022
i should start applying to 2023 new grad jobs
When did u contact them
https://strawpoll.com/fjhzu3rr4 (Post-COVID)
currently have the privilege to choose where I work...
im not sure asking a bunch idiot students is the best way to choose
btw i include myself as one of those idiot students
Yeah it totally depends on your personality, but I think NYC is the best place to live in 20s and 30s
Isn’t it better to apply as soon as they post positions?
Bc if companies posted a position now, maybe they’ll fill up all positions when I apply next summer/fall
Idk
I never saw companies begin recruiting so early before this year’s Imc and hrt
When you say shit CV, do you mean one with less internship(s)?
I thought putting something like “incoming xx intern” might work
looking at the mans cv, it pretty good tbh
doordash + amazon with icpc
but yea i agree with ur statement from before
if ur cv ass then summer will help improve it
Internship at a small startup as fullstack swe intern or at top biotech company as data analyst intern?
Which do u guys think is better
Is the pay similar for both companies?
oh damn
Yeah that's a tough choice
I'm kinda leaning towards biotech bc of pay and brand recognition but idk I'm not sure what a data analyst intern would do
I see
I'm not sure which would be best bc like
data analyst isn't swe, but the biotech company has a lot more name brand recognition
but the startup is fullstack swe but doesn't have any name brand recognition
yea
I'm leaning towards biotech
Yeah
It's not like going with a data analyst role will shut you out from SWE in the future
yeah that's true
and honestly I wanna do ml in the future anyways
so hopefully this would be a step in the right direction?
is brand recognition important?
i was thinking of doing 2 startups/small companies and than try to shoot for a company like roblox, tesla, etc
Brand recognition hella important ngl
(not sure if you're still referring to ML roles here)
but having brand recognition def important to be taken seriously by a lot of companies if you aren't a MS student yet
I still think brand recognition is important to an extent
there are some companies that are like if you see the person working there you might be like alright we'll give them an interview
like if you see someone with Google Tesla Apple etc ect
but there isn't much of a difference in terms of like less competitive companies
like no one hiring is probably gonna be like "This guy is a Software Engineer for Kleenex we gotta email him immediately" (i don't actually know about kleenex swe i assume it's not a huge thing)
Aren't tesla internships hella competitive
it's one of those companies basically no one hears back from afaik
to an extent
their pay is not competitive though
ig the name is very recognizable tho
yeah I'm not talking pay I'm mostly talking utility to get later positions
just thought it was funny seeing it sandwiched between those companies
Also riceu mentioned tesla so I thought I'd mention it lol
tesla ofc on a resume looks v good
yee
ur amazon right
AWS
very nice
hence the 🍌
Seattle
nice. you living there? heard its hybrid
hmm
sick
should be hype
im having trouble finding housing rn
flying out there on Sunday
what are generally companies outside of FAANG that only accept elite applicants with a loaded experience list from brand names
you aren't Amazon right
If you can the best rates I've seen are long term hotel housing
huh really
Quants
Yeah if you can find a roomate
you can get like 2500 a month room so that comes out to 1200 a month or something which is cheaper than the apartments
I took a fat L from Waymo 😭 hopefully next summer
i literally only got it because of my referral
should not have even touched that app honestly
then again, my inbox was full for 2 months so they literally could've called me and would've never even known
lmfao
pain
I know for a fact JNJ rejected me after calling me and not being able to leave a voice mail
cause I recognized the phone number from the previous semester and I was like
clear out your voicemail bro
"Huh it's weird that they didn't leave a voicemail this time, guess they'll call me back in the future"
and then rejection letter lmao
Yeah I cleared it out like a week ago
so should be okay from now on
didn't think that was a problem possible to have in 2021
How do u handle
When 2 recruiters from the same company
Hit u up
And u already spoke to one
But the other one
Wants u to speak to the hiring manager directly
unicorns
is ur internship in person?
lol fr
howd the verisk talk go lol
she was very understanding
just asked me for some data to make their internship process better
that makes sense
like if they should raise salary and stuff
its in Lexington so its understandable ig
exactly
verisk analytics?
yea
ye
nice
school apartment
i got 3 roommates
o shit
nah they dont allow subletting for outsiders which is dumb
tf
ik
cap hill right
what who would sublet then lol
only students from my school that need a place to stay in the summer
ye im in cap hill
thats dumb ill just pretend to go to seattle U i guess
Seattle housing in general is just expensive af
my room is tiny and i pay $1300 a month
jeez
yeah
but ew dorms
it aint that bad, theres a ton of restaurants and stuff. But its not close to downtown
i guess so, the general population here is young and there are lots of bars
very liberal
How is Mongo DB process?
Has anyone gotten an OA from Kargo or taken it i just got mine
Awesome. There’ll really be no internship for me
I don’t have invoices
And I explained in my email to this person that I didn’t generate revenue
Since I don't have an internship for this summer after not getting a return offer at a FAANG previously, can I just assume my skills are not upto the mark? Or is that me being too harsh on myself.
I think that might be a little harsh on yourself. I mean we are still in a pandemic after all and hiring is still a bit of a mess so don't feel bad that you weren't able to get anything. Just keep grinding and you'll be able to get something!
tbh I think my school isn't that prestigous so I might be not getting offers because of that. Like for example, I've seen who has gotten offers at LinkedIn and SF over me (for the same team + role since its team based) and both are students from Ivies. I just think school name matters even more during a "recession"
my understanding is that school name only matters if its top 10
top 10 CS?
I mean, Brown isn't a top 10 CS but recruiters hit up all of their students right
were u getting interviews
bro u go to brown 😂
ur network is goated
im international, so yeah a couple. This season I've had Microsoft (failed onsite), Google (failed back to back PS without going to HC), Uber (failed phone screen), Quip (failed phone screen), Salesforce (failed final round), LinkedIN (failed final round)
International
No I don't. I go to a private school in the bay area.
I
International students getting kinda fucked over
I've seen them getting offers tho 😦
oh nvm where did i see brown from i saw it somehwere
Are they international too?
Idk it just seems like my years of hard work have gone down the gutter because of one bad internship
ohh nvm u were j talking in general
Yeah in general
wait scu?
I don't think you've wasted your hard work
like quant firms will hire someone from a meh CS program like Dartmouth over students from my school
yep so its definitely that you need to practice more lc
and im guessing these were after doing decent on the oa right
Yeah just looking at this list, it sounds like you just need to improve your interview skills maybe?
I aced leetcode questions for microsoft, linkedin and salesforce
You seem to have all the technical skills
didnt do great on the lc hards i got asked at google and uber
and blanked out on a medium for quip, eventually solving but only right at the end
what was ur exp with like the smaller companies
but yeah hards dont click for me tbh
since all i see are big names rn
most of them at least
i had applovin
got rejected, but they only hire 1 intern for ML so idk
That must've just been extremely competitive then
only small company that reached out to u?
ML internships are insanely competitive
^
esp considering that most only take grad students
yeah its also impossible to get if you dont attend a top school
yeah I was just about to ask
im a grad student Mike
Oh
oh
yee
My friend from stanford had such an easy time getting an ML job
he must've had multiple ML offers too
idt it was the school tbh
i feel like if you're not in andrew Ngs lab or something then you don't stand a chance
i mean, he's smart as fuck
Stanford ML students typically know their shit
but still
its all ur interview performance after u get the interview
i've studied stanford's ml courses 5-6 times too
Yeah I think you might just need to practice interviews
Idk I slid right into amazon ML if you can get an interview you're vibing
and I'm at NEU which def isn't top 10
Because just by going off of what you've said so far, you seem really smart
maybe T30 for CS
nice
NEU Co-op really nice
Mostly just get to the interview somehow then ball out
only reason neu isnt that "high ranked" is bc of the grad rate
i wouldn't say im super smart, but im very hard working to make up for the gaps in smartness
bc ppl do co op there
idk there must be smt happening tho if u said u aced msft, linkedin, salesforce
Yeah but the help for getting that co-op hella trash I basically had to apply entirely separately and then just be like "I got an internship let's make it my co-op"
lol
lol
NEU is solid, they rejected my grad school app lol
if you aced MSFT Linkedin and Salesforce you're def vibing
I have a friend at NEU but he made it sound like it was straight forward to get a Co op lmao
Usually, this year it's only like 60% chance of getting one
cause bovid
no he said he aced the problems
but didnt get offer
Dude's goated, he's dual majoring in CS and CE and then minoring in Robotics
o
I didn't ace the ML case study for Microsoft so yeah thats probably why I didn't pass
But I eventually learned how to answer those better
yeah ML Is super important for ML interviews lol
I mean, I know ML
wait hol up are u applying to strictly ml shit?
Grokking the ML interview is helpful
but I don't think i asked enough questions to clarify the case
Also a lot of times in ML interviews
they grill you on a past project
and then are like
"why did you make these design choices"
and then you gotta explain
so my point is
do projects and then study what you did lol
damn i'd definitely fail ML interviews then lmfao
i don't really have any explanations to my choices
I just do
my side projects are all CNNs so idk what other options I should have spoken about
maybe diff architectures?
i just bullshit
all my project frontends are all bullshit
yeah I mean anyone can throw together a half decent ML model but usually if you really know what you're doing you can justify every little thing
I've used resnet so maybe why resnet over say lenet?
frontend is just bullshitting styles to an extent
Yeah i've just bullshitted so far too lmao
and making it "look good"
just display flex, justify content center, align items center
not necessarily saying to like volunteer that information cause it might not be important just prepared in case they ask for it
and boom ur a frontend dev
My website is the most generic basic Bootstrap site lmao
mine built with react/typescript/sass with no framework
i regret that i built everything in custom css
Lmfao
if anyone still knows of open positions / recruiters still looking pls lmk. i am in desperate need of an internship this summer
