So.. got an offer letter for a winter internship that technically goes until August (starting in 2 weeks in january), I plan to just follow it through until May and sign a SWE offer for the summer likely elsewhere.

In the offer: "Employees are required to sign a confidentiality, non-solicitation and non-compete
agreement"

"Non-compete", any idea what this means? Is this a red flag that would stop me for leaving to another tech company or offer for the summer?

This is not a major tech company by any means. A smaller local company.

The purpose of a non-compete is to prevent you from jumping ship to work at a competitor (basically taking company secrets to a competitor)

They would only enforce it if they felt like their business was in jeopardy because of you moving to another company

Which is why they are rarely enforced, especially for interns/new grads who don't know or understand much anyways

This is just my opinion and you should get the opinions of others as well, but I don't think the non-compete will make any difference in your plan
