the interviewer was telling me to remove characters from a string in place
she also said lists and strings are represented the same in python3 and for me to use .remove() (which doesn't exist)
in Python strings are immututable so it would be impossible to remove characters in place without creating a new string
a quick google search tells me this
tldr; she asked me to do something impossible in Python
I used recursion to the same thing I did iteratively and she said it was ok now(the code was the same as before but i think the recursion through her off)
she also didn't know how filter() works and almost told me my code was wrong when i had used it on leetcode for the same problem

I believe there were some mistakes in interviewing that caused me to take time away from solving the second problem.
The interviewer said some things about Python that weren't true and took time away from me during the interview and had me rewrite my solution for the first problem three times. For instance, in Python documentation strings are immutable yet the interviewer wanted me to remove elements in place which either requires me to create a new string or make 2 smaller new strings and combine them(which she said to redo). She also said lists and strings were the same when one is mutable and the other is not.

I think you can make the email more general, the recruiter probably doesn't care too much about/understand the specific details. Just say you had a working solution but for the entire duration of the interview, your interviewer forced you to re-write it in a programatically incorrect fashion, asking you to use features of Python that either did not exist or were incorrect
