Hey
first 20
https://www.thewallstreetquants.com/ quant bootcamp
Anyone know if this is actually legit?
I couldn't really find much info online about them,
feel free to pay them $3,400 and let us know if its legit 👀
there's also a "book your free consult" button so you could try talking to them
first
jane street trader or ur money back
some quant firms and tech companies don't have a degree requirement 👀
mouth filled with 😏
what bootcamp is this channel title referring too???
Kirb 350 boot camp
isnt this channel redundant when #quants-n-traders exists
I’ll legit book the consult call just lowkey intrigued. Too broke rn to pay 3 k for a quant bootcamp lol
Sounds like a guarantee I can’t refuse 👀
But who know’s might take one for the server and write a detailed review if I decide to do it.
you could try getting the price lower by submitting whatever this is lol https://www.thewallstreetquants.com/scholarship
bootcamp -> quant
The quant bootcamp is doing math cs at harvard, mit, berkeley etc
Will apply fs to cover the rest when I get cash on hand and if I get the scholarship lol
quant deez

Wait what even is channel thread for
hey @tribal spear @static nymph . i jus finished camping today with friends.
Anyone recommend any YouTube channels or other options to learn CS on my own?
All the resources you need to give yourself a world class computer science education
You’re the best, thanks!
Np. Also start with C++. It’s the most versatile language imo and it will be much easier to go from C++ -> Python or anything else than the other way around
Build Startups Like Entrepreneur!
There is No shortcuts. No growth hacks. Just building & shipping every day and talking to users is the KEY
This is intended to give entrepreneurs students a foundational understanding of leveraging a development framework to quickly build a MVP.
💡 Idea
Get an idea from problems in your own life. If you don't have problems that are original enough, become a more original person. Don't build products that are solutions in search of a problem.
🛠 Build
Build your idea with the tools you already know. Don't spend a year learning some language you'll never use. Don't outsource building to other people, that's a competitive disadvantage. Build only the core functionality. The rest comes later.
🚀 Launch
Launch early and multiple times. Launch to famous startups websites (like Product Hunt, Hacker News, The Next Web), mainstream websites (like Reddit) and mainstream press (like Forbes).
But more importantly, find where your specific audience hangs out on the internet (or in real life) and launch there. Launch in a friendly way, that means "here's something I made that might be useful for you", instead of acting like you're some big giant new startup coming to change the world.
🌱 Grow
Grow organically. A great product that people really need which is better than the rest will pull people in. You don't need ads for that. Don't hire people if there's no revenue yet. Don't hire many people if there's revenue either. Stay lean and fast. Do things yourself.
💰 Monetize
Monetize by asking users for money. Don't sell their data. Don't put ads everywhere. Don't dilute your product. Be honest that you need money to build the product they love and they'll be fine paying for it.
🤖 Automate
Automate by writing programs that do stuff that you do repeatedly. Only automate if it's worth the time saved. For stuff that's too hard to automate or not worth it, hire contractors. Let them work as autonomously as possible. Where possible let robots manage them (for example by giving them alerts when things happen in your product). This lets you take time off, or work on your next business.
🚪 Exit
Exit by not putting your company for sale, but letting buyers come to you. Filter out the majority of buyers that aren't serious. With the serious buyers left, negotiate a price by valuating your own company. Price it agressively high. Always keep the bargaining power on your side of the table. Get paid in cash, not stock and don't fall for the trap of earnout bonuses. Make sure you're prepared for the emotional fallout of selling (and missing) your business.
🤝 Ethics
Not a chapter but important: be ethical, and don't cut corners on ethics. You'll be rewarded by not doing dodgy stuff like spamming, manipulating your users into doing stuff, growth hacking your search rankings or faking your social media, or abusing your power to compete unfairly if you're successful. If you make a good product, you don't need any of this. If you make mistakes, own up to them and say sorry. Be nice as a person and especially as a company. Karma always pays back in the end. Just being ethical and nice is a competitive advantage these days because most companies (and people) are not!
📝 Homework
Homework: Each chapter ends with homework exercises that you can do. Instead of just reading, I'd like you to use this book as a handbook while actually building and shipping a product. It doesn't matter if it fails. But you need to do something instead of just read! This is not startup porn! This is startup life.
hit bio to dig in
is this a crypto scam or gpt copypasta
Either way a waste of time
I checked the link at it seems like it was for people with degrees already
What exactly are you referring to?
This
Where does it say it requires a degree?
Also i was just saying in general some tech and quant places dont require a degree
And it was someone that had a BS and MS
Yeah for sure
I saw someone on YouTube get a quant dev job with a business degree
What firm do they work for?
No clue
It was this guy

fr why is there so much quant talk in a bootcamp channel 😭
Akuna but he's kinda a sham lol

Anyoone got any cv from someone whos done a bootcamp
I will like to see how to structure mine coming from a bootcamp. More interested in the education part and Project section
you can mute this channel and hide muted channels and then quant will be the last one in the nav bar for you if you don't need this channel
@silver furnace
anyone heard of https://prooftrading.com/
cool website lololol
not sure about their quality though
every hft type firm has an insane website tbh
Hello guys
i applied for a free full stack developer program and i received a email about a test on hackerranck.im looking for some useful information how i can prepare for the test and what to expected
Did the email say what topics would be on there?
No it didn't said anything
It's probably just fundamental coding + data structures + algorithms
I sent you a resource in general chat
Thank you
I will learn that all night
Full stack over night
no the data structure
why
Who tf pinged me
@robust light did
Of course its that mf
Always ghost pinging me

this does not seem good
wait i realized i replied to a 1month old message but senior swe pay is 125k + equity
LMAO
which for senior swe?
thats new grad pay lol
i interviewed with them

Hello, I'm a 28 year old woman and I've recently decided to switch careers from architect to software engineer. I have bachelors and masters in architecture and have worked for 4 years. Currently to transition, I've enrolled in Meta front-end developers course on Coursera. I'm thinking of getting into the software engineer career first through front end and work my way up to be a full stack developer. Do you think it'll be possible for me to self study and get into the software engineer profession? If anybody has any tips or any free study materials/ websites or even if you don't recommend this route and going for a paid bootcamp, please let me know. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
It'll take a lot of discipline, but considering you managed to get a bachelors + masters in architect, you're most likely capable
To get a software engineering job, here are the steps you'll need to take, along with resources to help you tackle each step:
-learn fundamental programming concepts. A good resource for this is the free online course, CS50, from Harvard
-learn data structures and algorithms. There are so many good resources for learning this online. Neetcode pro is one I recommend
-practice coding problems on the website leetcode. These are the kinds of problems you'll need to be able to solve in job interviews for software eng positions. Leetcode and Neetcode are the best resources for this in my opinion
-build programming projects to put on your resume to actually get job interviews in the first place. I'd check out youtube channels like clement mihailescu and tech with tim for project recommendations and tips for how to build these projects. You can also check out this server's #1019675142248468601 channel to see what kind of projects others have made.
Good luck!
I also highly recommend using chatgpt as sort of like an assistant in helping you learn coding and answering questions you have
thank you!!
Hey guys, I'm an undergraduate student who wants to learn coding and develop a strong hold on Data Structures and algorithms but I find Leetcode intimidating due to the sheer amount of questions instead could you all suggest a must do List of Leetcode Questions which covers a variety of patters & frequently asked questions during interviews (beginner friendly). Your help is very much appreciated! Thanks in advance 🙂
Blind 75
A better way to prepare for coding interviews.
Need some advice. So.. I’m just gonna bite the bullet and go for a proper program. Would OMSCS or a bootcamp like General Assembly be more beneficial for a newbie with no coding knowledge like me? I’m not sure what to choose. Or should I do a bootcamp then a ton of leetcode + referrals. And OMSCS after whatever job I got? Thank you everyone in advance! Truly appreciate your input
If I remember correctly, you are coming from an architecture background (?)
Does OMSCS allow non-CS applicants for undergrad? If so, I'd still be concerned about performing well without a CS background as the degree dives into CS at a master's level, of course.
Also, what area of software engineering are you pursuing?
Thanks so much for answering! I’m aiming for full stack / backend. Yes I have archi background
I see. Maybe then I should go for bootcamp
If you are set for taking up some sort of proper program, then yes I believe a bootcamp is more advisable as bootcamps do not assume any prior knowledge as opposed to OMSCS.
It'd be a huge huge huge jump to take on.
Any good bootcamp recommendations??
I personally do not 😦 @smoky musk
No worries. Thank you for taking the time to respond!
ofcofc.
if you haven't already, it may be worth going to visiting r/OMSCS on reddit and browsing cases of non-CS undergrads taking the program, see how they faired.
I'm already reading a few instances of such cases.
go for osu postbacc
or any other one you might like
hi everyone! i'm looking for some online bootcamps to learn coding from, if you guys have any recommendations about any bootcamps related to coding/engineering, and are conducted online, please do let me know! thanks in advance ^^
Haha same as me!!! I’ve decided to go to General Assembly! Will let you know how it goes if you’re interested!
Please view their 6 month job placement rate before paying. Fair warning to any bootcamp. The numbers do not lie
GA and others have posted no data for 2021 or 2022 courses.
Because it’s shit im sure
Fair assumption unless they have an explanation.
@main fossil The best way to find the best bootcamp is go on LinkedIn. Searching for the bootcamp, and look at where are people working at after they graduate.
Imo, at the end of the day, it’s all on yourself. Bootcamps aren’t super different from one another. It’s all on your will, personality and etc for those going to bootcamps to get a job afterwards
As someone who went to bootcamp. And mentored other people who went. The quality between them is massively different. The best ones have an obviously high placement rate.
Camps that are on the higher end price wise can afford to pay better quality teachers. It's difficult to get to quality engineers to write their jobs for teaching.
Many good ones only allow in students who are decent in algorithms before starting. You will notice some only allow in above a certain IQ. The worst ones let in anyone (which is a huge mistake, but they already got their money once people fail).
Top bootcamps essentially mimic a working environment of a startup for the students so they can refer to a real project, and in addition to job skills teach DS/A for interview skills.
The worst bootcamps either rip off people who can't get jobs or rip off people who didn't need to pay to begin with
LinkedIn is not the best data sample as many people do not put a bootcamp on their profile. It's not advantageous to do so in most scenarios.
If you're going to pay 20k it is silly to not get an audit of placement and salary for students in the previous 6m/1y. They are extremely variable by company. Any reputable company will want you to see their stats on request as it is a selling point
Can more or less cosign, friend works a boot camp. There are some catastrophically bad ones and some great ones.
I guess I shouldn’t sound generalized nor as if I’m talking about all bootcamps. After all, I only inquired 3 bootcamps: Flatiron, fullstack and general assembly. They gave me similar placement rates from same year. And I couldn’t tell a difference between their syllabus. Got passed their interview / pre course tests. They’re all around price $19k flatiron, $18k fullstack and $14k GA. Does anybody know the difference between these 3 since you all seem pretty familiar about bootcamps?
@smoky musk As I said the simplest difference is in placement stats. Post all 3 stats to the channel and I will review them
I think you will do fine wherever you go, but I think people should get their money's worth with the best deal.
I point out a couple data caveats when comparing apples to oranges.
-
Some bootcamps seem to prefer to report people as 'non job-seeking' for specific reasons, rather than marking them as 'failed to graduate'.
-
CIRR bootcamps cannot mark anyone as not 'seeking a job' without documentation. So they tend to specify reasons for 'failed to graduate'.
-
Therefore, Some bootcamps are implied at a higher graduation rate, and a higher non-seeking rate, compared to a CIRR manipulation of these numbers.
-
CIRR bootcamps must mark someone as student once they cannot get a 100% refund.
-
Some bootcamps spend some time on numbers for 'enrolled' vs 'student'. This implies an increased graduation rate if they can mark someone as a non-student under different criteria.
-
Flatiron doesn't provide any stat for '180 days' placement after graduation. The number they give is in footnote 20 and to me implies it is a 180-270 day placement:
Per management’s criteria, a Job Search Cycle is considered to have begun at the later of: job acceptance prior to having declared a Job Search Start Date, or direct communication with the Career Services team indicating a Job Search Start Date within the deadline specified in the Career Services Commitment acknowledged by the student at time of enrollment (60 or 90 days after graduation from the program).`
- CIRR tends to report for 6 month cohorts or periods, which gives more info on markets at that time.
- Some reports can be 1 year +
--
Takeaway: If I am looking at a non-CIRR report, I want to compare as many things apples-to-apples as I can.
So rather than using arbitrary non-seeker rules, I might look at the total students or enrolled placement rates for 180 days. Arbitrarily marking ~30% as non-seeking to exclude from placement rate makes the data harder to compare. In the same line, if there is no 180 days measurement, I can't make a good comparison to another bootcamp that provides this.
@tawny fern wow thanks for sharing!
What’s the most prestigious bootcamp
Don’t remember who here mentioned OMSCS is around $7500 lol. I got accepted into it and they said the program is around $50k.. just FYI
OMSCS 🥲
Zac in that email was the one who was surprised on the phone call when I mentioned $7500. He’s like “we’ve never had a $7500 program, if you’ve heard of such a cheap program, you should let me know” 🤷🏻♀️
That's Stevens @smoky musk. When people mention OMSCS they talk about Georgia Tech's online program, which costs ~$7500
It's confusing because OMSCS just stands for "Online MS in CS"
did you still apply to georgia tech's?
Hey peeps, could someone tell me what's the difference between neetcode all/ neetcode 150 & Bling 75 ?
Do all of em overlap ?
Does preparing Leetcode patterns (Sean Prashad), Neetcode enough to prepare for any Top product based companies?
neetcode all 👉 mr.neetcode all solved problems in his youtube channel
neetcode 75 👉 top 75 probem DSA (Basically 75LC is organized by one of the FAANG enginner)
neetcode 150 👉 next level of NC75
Also this is totally out of context, I'm an Incoming MSCS graduate student at Indiana University Bloomington for MSCS, I'm planning to apply for Summer Internships this year for 2024...could someone give me insights on how has the job market been ?
btw, I'm graduating in May 2025, do you guys think the situation would be a lot better by then ? Being an International Student can I be hopeful?
any opinions/ insights would be very much appreciated!
There are many good bootcamps depending on what kind of skill sets you looking for.
It's set up so that it costs more the longer you spend on it. It does cost around $7500 if you don't take summers off and take 2 courses a couple of times. Even if you don't, it still costs under $10k in most cases
Are there any career boot camps for this summer or maybe for next fall? An example of what I am talking about is the recent Netflix boot camp that happen this past spring
The name of that bootcamp was Netflix Advanced Pathways bootcamp
does anyone know any career bootcamps for being a salesforce developer?
i went to hack reactor if anyone is thinking about it feel free to reach out to me, got a job a month after and have been working in the field for about 2.5 years now
Thanks for sharing 👍
hi, do you received any feedback from Netflix?
yo
@tribal spear
I haven't heard anything back from them
well, I received rej today lol
Same here lol
Yeah same, its super difficult..the number of open seats are 63 versus like 2000 ish applicants..and also they mostly prefer American minor communities
Just curious do u guys find bootcamps to be a viable path to entry level swe positions in 2023 and beyond?
@balmy patio
You can see what I posted above regarding placement rates -
My opinion is that at this time, you need to be exceptionally skilled to go to a bootcamp and get a good job.
From my view,
- 2023, non-CG applicants should aim to be top 10%. Top 20% can still survive. Below this is a employer market.
- 2019-2022 years I felt from my sources it was more top 60%.
Keep in mind that the high job placement rate bootcamps are already a different sample - they already select for above average people to be allowed entrance (unsure what percentage, but since 2019 I have heard roughly top 10-30% are allowed entrance)
First, we should exclude elite students who can pay for elite colleges. They get a better ROI doing that.
Given there are affordable online college options that can complete in 2-4 years, average people should be open to consider the college route. With online college the network opportunities are less but still substantial (college pipeline hiring). The amount of interview opportunities of a college grad are higher due to the companies which requre CG.
If a person doesn't have the 2-4 years to complete college, then OK, let's look at a bootcamp. The person going needs to make sure they are top 10% material (imo). At that point there is no harm pulling the trigger on a bootcamp. They will save time and money.
The top end of CS careers is always gated by innate skill first and then learned skill. Those at the top can make any reasonable education choice and come out fine. But should do their research
Ohh thanks for the detailed response!
By what metric do u measure each candidate so that you know they’re the top 10%, etc?
That's just my estimate. You can look at current admissions rates, job placement rates, to get a better look.
It's not known, but you can reasonably assume good bootcamps have a <10% admissions. And tend to place around 80% of students in 180 days (when audited)
Then take the average college admissions - 68%. I don't have job placement data for that but we can assume it's probably decent for top students
Has this been posted? https://jobs.lever.co/spotify/2319b24a-a5bf-48e8-9296-782b568966ed
We are currently looking for candidates to participate in our Spotify New York City Technology Fellowship Program -- a development program aimed at hiring engineers just entering the professional tech environment from a diverse set of backgrounds. Throughout the 19 week program participants in the Fellowship will operate as a team and eventually...
Nope, but that's pretty cool
Most of us wouldn't qualify though
Who can apply?
Self taught, bootcamp and community college grads. We’re looking for aspiring engineers that have little to no technical job experience who are eager to learn as much as possible.
Oh wait I didn't realize I was in a bootcamp channel
@tawny fern i hope u don't mind i shared some of ur thoughts in another server cuz I thought they were informative. Lmk if u want to see the context/invite to the server
Shared in another server if ur in BC, Canada (basically take bootcamps for free if ur eligible): https://wearebctech.com/talent/skills-training/
Maybe worth looking into similar programs in other parts of NA
I mean Canada changes calculations a little bit. I don't know much about the job market there - except that a top college degree (for example Waterloo) with a U.S. work visa is a high ROI option for Canada.
In the US what do u consider to be the top bootcamps? (ie the ones ppl most want to get into)
I find in Canada the bar to entry for the common ones are pretty low?
For U.S. I advise viewing CIRR. Codesmith is the one I think is the best rated. I did not attend, but had friends who did, and they did well. I advised them that it was the best option on ratings. I attended some of their free sessions which went over dynamic programming and felt it was well presented.
Ohh tyvm!
CIRR is a really cool org, thanks for sharing
Doesn’t seem like there’s an equivalent in Canada
Hey, Have you applied for it or work with them?
anyone know a good bootcamp for data analyst/data science stuff
I just graduated a bootcamp last week. Uhh any idea tips from previous bootcamp grads on how to get that first role?
Have you reached out to your advisors? Or is there a network of alumni? Which program? I’m currently enrolled in FlatIron which starts July 17
Spring Board! I was deciding between them and FlatIron. springboard seems great for data analyst
I have reached out but I think the issue rn is that there are 250 unplaced ppl including me and since I just graduated my request may be a lower priority. Kinda sucks. But again it’s only been 2 weeks I guess. Started doing my own self learning and just applying
Coding Temple
I would search for alums of the bootcamp on LinkedIn and message them to connect/ask for connections/how they found jobs. I try to respond to every message I get from fellow bootcamp alums
@elder urchin thank you! I’ve been doing this and def got some better feedback 😁
hey guys! my friend is looking to get into computer science - does anybody know of any coding bootcamps that have good placements or in general are known to be really good?
I did App Academy in 2021 and it worked out well but that was during a hot job market, worth looking into since at the time they were one of the few legit ones
I went to hack reactor and loved my time there. Have very little to complain about. In regards to placement maybe 15% of my cohort have been hired and of that 15% half of them are things like support engineer, etc… This is around 8 months post graduation. I was lucky to get a job within 2 months post grad but i worked my ass off and got lucky.
I honestly don’t think I can recommend hack reactor though because they have done some very sketchy things lately like postponing a cohort by months just before the start date something that would have thrown my whole plan off if it happened to me.
If they are set on a bootcamp maybe look into app academy like the person above me said? I have a friend that went there in early 2022 and got a job at google after.
If they are looking at all routes maybe have them look into WGU. It is a go at your own pace university. They could get an accelerated bachelors degree in computer science. Definitely looked upon better than bootcamps.
thank you so much for the advice guys!! this is super helpful
15% at 180 days is a horrible percentage on it's own considering there's some that go near 80%. As someone who went to HR when rates were high I'm not sure what happened, but I know that things change every year. Whether that's teachers, job market, or curriculum. That's why current students should be looking at rates from the last year specifically. If the school doesn't post data, do not consider that school.
WGU is a great option for sure. Just take into account the cost and time required. As well as lack of career assistance of traditional college. I think I have a few friends I am going to recommend to do the WGU track
@silver wasp if you scroll up I posted a couple data points on bootcamp scores
I just checked the cirr data and there's some excellent scores from some bootcamps from jun-dec 2022.
Yeah, the market is just in a super tough spot for entry level swe. Honestly most bootcamps are pretty similar, you get out of it what you put in and I think HR is/was one of the best ones that’s why i chose it. But like I said they are doing some sketchy things now so not sure if it’s the best option anymore.
That’s why I recommended something like WGU where it will take a bit longer but u will come into a market that’s better and computer science degrees are looked upon better than bootcamps grads. There’s a huge amount of bootcamp grads in the market without jobs in 2023. Obviously my cohort could be a statistical anomaly but that’s not really what i’m hearing in general. There is other data like you mentioned and it’s best to take all of that into account but i just gave my cohorts numbers because these outcomes usually don’t come out for a long long while after graduation
Don't do hack reactor. Trust me.
Hack reactor turned into a scam ever since Galvanized took over.
Constant staff turnover.
I had an insider spill the details to me.
yo @minor pumice ive a friend who was t2 ow w me who had a few questions abt bootcamping, would u b down to talk to him?
i was t2 aswell but im finishing out school but we werej ust looking at ur linkedin a bit ago LOL
Hey, Is there anyone interested in peer learning?
42Quebec is the best.
sure have them dm me
kkty will give him ur disc
i just used chatgpt to do it for me

I've never heard of an fpga/verilog bootcamp, most people's exposure to them is university, as far as I know.

does anyone wanna mock, I do mediums - hards in python and my goal is a fang company
has anybody heard back from airbnb, pinterest, or home depot apprenticeships
@idle ferry thx for letting me know but also which company are you referring to
what's up fellow bootcampers! just joined this group!
Anyone heard of The Marcy Lab School? A free bootcamp in NYC.
hi does anyone know any good coding bootcamps that kind of 'gurantee' a job and have learned a lot?
What do u wanna get in to
AWS Cloud Practicioner is a solid way to start
Rithm
Yes, they're actually goated
@marsh lichen Can you elaborate? Did you attend this bootcamp?
Nope, I know a few ppl that dropped school due to money issues, completed the program and all got six figure jobs
@marsh lichen Dang that good to hear!, I'm in the final stages for the interview process and wanted to hear peoples experiences.
Edx bro
hi! I am not sure if any of you have been in this situation but I am currently an undergrad that is having severe money problems. I think my best bet of making it through school is finding a FT/Contract job somehow. I have interned as a SWE at Google, AMD, and NASA, so my resume is pretty ok. Do any of you have advice as to where to find opportunities like this?
Did u take student loans?
You can find contracts or f/t, given that you'd want to set your hours, a contract is ideal for this
yes, i just basically maxed out my credit line since the govt loans are not big enough
ok facts! do you know any good resources for finding contracts?
Well u can take student loans for housing expenses
Dice is good for contracts. You kind of need to be your own salesperson though if u want to get good deals
You should probably register an LLC and put up a portfolio for yourself.
Then just apply to contracts on dice and reach out to recruiters... They can find you some
all my loans go towards tuition. i basically borrow the max amount i can and min wage is not enough
ooh good to know
All my contract work has just been from networking at events
I can lyk if something comes up that requires a team
hey !
can anyone tell me that grokking system design is a course or some tutorials
both, but just find a free pdf online of the book (basically a bunch of problems and how to go thru em)
become expert at designing twitter
oof good stuff. shockingly, I have been having some luck landing interviews. so we will see how it goes
don't do devslopes lmao
sorry to necro do u mind sharing ur timeline for themarcylabschool?
I recently got accepted into the MYC software engineering fellowship. I can only speak on the timeline of the interview process, which took like a roughly a month.
ic ic, thank u! it starts on august right?

codeacademy has one
its like 150 hours long
I'm going to do this 100%, because of your link, I'll report back to you when I'm a full stack engineer
definitely ill see you at FAANG fs
Do they even need FS? I feel like everyone FS
youre right definitely not, become a product manager instead
Does anybody here want to hire me I'm a fucking useless Dev
I can't hire you, but I can give you a referral. Send me a job link and I'll refer you.
All you need to be is a US citizen.
It is the lowest bar ever yet it is also the highest bar ever too.
What do you mean by this haha xD
Bootcamp —> monkey dev
A website or NPO website where I can learn Quantitative Development for free from beginner to advance?
i am brand new and don’t know which boot camp or program to learn through. Whichever would be the closest to a school would be great. I’m not going to collage just getting certified.
Speaking from personal experience, I graduated from Flatiron school in october last year and I just got a gig doing volunteer work 3 months ago (still looking for FTE). The program was good going through javascript -> React for the frontend and python/flask for the back end. I did the self-paced option for going through the bootcamp but there is a more rigid school like program where you're in a zoom call with other people in the cohort doing lessons with a teacher rather than learning by yourself. During the bootcamp you get opportunities to network and do peer coding, and after the program you get to work with a career coach to help build your resume and help you with tech/behavioral interviews as well as growing your linkedin network and what you should be doing throught the application process. I'd say if you have the money and you prefer a more school like environment I'd recommend it, but you can 100% do all of it on your own for free
Lowest ever bar because it's so easy (all you have to do is be a US citizen) but highest ever bar because if you're NOT a US citizen there's nothing you can do (not easy to become one)
just marry a white woman bro easy work
ahh yes about that I dont talk to women Im EECS
not that anyone asked
I don't remember to be honest, I think you show them your ID and they find your name in the system
when you enter they give you a nametag with your name and title
hi everyone, what's the best course for flask Api ?
Have anyone taken App Academy OPEN course before? Did it help for getting a job?
no
has anyone on their resume use " summary"
can you refer me?
Yes.
I'm going to DM you!
no, I will write a cover letter if I want to summary myself
I've been hosting 3-4 people coding syncs (virtual co-working) for about 1 months now. Today's sync has just started. It's 30-40min sprints with 5-7min mentoring in between. Anyone who's coding their project or learning how to code is welcome. DM, I'll share a link. I have 10 yoe overall as coder, EM, and PM.
Today's coding session has started.
any good part time bootcamps
currently working full time rn
saw this idk how good it is https://www.techelevator.com/coding-bootcamp/part-time/
Don't bother the job placement rates are bad
The coding sync session is running now. Feel free to DM if you want to join. We work on independent projects, 30-40min sprints, 5-7 syncs and mentoring in between. 100% free, no ads. That helps me to stay focused on my own deliveries.
Resumed to coding. Feel free to join.
Another one has just started.
@tawny fern what about hack reactor, got into that one as well
Ask them for their job placement rates last 1 year last 6 months before you do anything
Get it in writing
Their website has no data for 2023 or 2024
What we know is that reporting can be 90/180/360 days after graduation, and some of the best bootcamps have classes with about 5-30% 90 day placement
I think 180 days is a realistic goal but the 90 day rate is abysmal compared to 2018-2022 where it might be 70% at the best bootcamps
@sleek fern your best bet is Codesmith
whats the best Software Engineer bootcamp
Whichever one has the highest job placement rate in the last year
Most are unacceptable at this time, since new grads are saturating entry level
you already know this is codesmith
and no one is going to bother giving you job placement rates in writing
afaik only 2-3 bootcamps post audited results anymore
the rest are just going to be self-reported stats which...who cares
i mean there's still some value in it but self-reported obviously is going to be highly slanted and easy to misinterpret
does anyone have Joy of React by josh w Comeau please?🦋☺️
It's very interactive and online-based, so you can't really do it without an account. Like there are a few videos, but the best part about it is the interactivity. It is on sale right now 🙃 I think it's worth it
yes Rachelle am very well aware of its features ....infact this is the very reason am craving for it 😂😂
anyone who can help me with ccna prepration or shall we form the group for ccna prepration
i plan to take it by end of jan
are bootcamps still not legit?
are unpaid internships a good way to get your foot through the door into the tech world
Bootcamps have died.
lol no im a bootcamper and just landed a 200k faang job with no degree
is this still true ? 😭😭😭
Don't give me hope now please.
No idea tbh 😭
The people you mentioned that got out with jobs, when did they attend Marcy?
All of them pre-coivd. In their inaugural year too, so 2019
Oh nevermind. Pre-covid is a completely different story 😭
lmao yep
if youre committed to a career change and cant go back to school, then it can help
but wont put u above college grads
I pretty much said it all I can. If you can do college, be ready to apply for jobs, and THEN use college to get internships. If you're not ready to work, you're not ready. You'll be burning cash unnecessarily.
This is essentially a path boot camps offered until there was a huge surplus of college grads.
After you have a few resume boosters, you're set to look for full time, and paid off a lot of the cost of college. I wouldn't even say you have to finish the degree, but at that point it's not much more effort, and gives you full time jobs access if you're not employed yet.
Have you done one of these 12 week bootcamps before? how was ur exp out of it in terms of projects and knowledge you think
I did. It was great for learning frontend web development and JavaScript, as well as helping understand what to study afterwards. The projects are learning tools. The knowledge is a strong base and a better understanding of what you need to study, though there's still some clarity there that a mentor could help with.
The strong point for bootcamps is it gets people ready to work and do actual day to day tasks, where colleges were (in the past) doing terribly at training people. I've heard colleges are fixing curriculums a bit, though there's still a lot of unnecessary courses and weaknesses either at web development or other niche fields in software. Some may opt to do a bootcamp before a bachelor's, if they want to jump into a specific software niche before applying it in a job.
In a strong job market, you could come out ready to work with about 6 months of studying. But now, I'd say you need to expect to invest way more time afterwards to either build a startup or a career.
That increased amount of study to get to entry level in today's week job market (2-3 years) makes a bachelor's degree a better investment. With a bachelor's degree, or master's if branding out your study, you can work at internships while studying. Most of a degree is irrelevant material, the career connections (intern/ng) are what you pay for. So even there, there's a min/max on career services quality, price, minimum time to degree.
There is no real credit for doing a bootcamp. What you learn is going to help you as long as it's relevant to what you decide to do. If you're really wanting to learn something that one of these offers, I'd recommend checking that the teacher is good, as access to their time is what you're paying for. General web development and ds/a content is usually available free online. Some bootcamps really do offer a optimal path to learning AI basics, web dev framework, Python, and that's fine. Teachers are worth paying for sometimes.
darn I need $47,001 in 72 hours, so close
I came off from a bootcamp, is there any way to get internships off of those or do you have to be from a college ?
college
😔 crap, thank you
Harder from boot camp
But not impossible
but really really hard, you better network
mostly u have to be from good college but depends on your resume or luck
i know many who have master degree in civil engineer and then they started to learn coding from bootcamp and now she is in google as a software engineer from last 3 year
You can take college courses like maybe 1-2 for cs and then put on your resume ur taking college courses n apply to internships with that in resume
Honestly it would help if you have a really good project that you can talk about not just some copy of eBay etc. ( I’m talking about your bootcamp projects those won’t help you jack unless it’s something really useful or you are A+ bullshitter)
Bonus points for hackathon projects or if you have attended hackathons before and you can talk about that or bring it up in an interview
That only applies for internships and if you actually land an interview with the team tho
Ats is gonna whop yo ass tho unless you got a couple of years exp as a bootcamper with some decent names
Then again eBay copy for a bootcamp still impressive esp if you can implement a payment system and learn to work with plaid api or some form of irl payment transaction.
That last part alone can get you at least interviewed for a tech support job
No experience? Cover ALL your bases with projects and shotgun. Full stack of w/e framework b language just make sure it’s relevant to what you’re applying for, project that integrates ai, scripts + tools for automation etc.
Like just look at the scalpers market: make an automation tool that can purchase multiple orders within a few ms. Doesn’t even have to be purchasing for heavy hitter websites like nike. Could be for just pokemon cards from Walmart. Hard part: verification and captcha bypass.
You can just slap that as your project and just even sell it to the people for access and if you do get some pple buying you can even include as a bullet point - 10+ yearly paid subscribers to this project or somethin
how hard is it to get into swe with a degree in traditional engineeering? anyone else made or is trying to make the transition from traditional engineering (like mechanical or civil) to swe?
I know electrical is the best to transition to swe but I would assume mechanical might help cuz that means u have a mehcical brain XD
Just started this project to create a centralize app launcher for my side projects:

Why they still exist?
oh man im a app aademy survivor
Are OpenCV courses worth the money so I can learn deep learning, machine learning, and computer vision?
not worth it.
Why?
even mastering opencv has no helping in finding a related job
Some people found jobs from OpenCV and Deepl Learning courses from testimonials. The testimonials don't appear to be false nor manufactured.
I attended one OpenCV webinar about AI. My dad shared it with me and I enjoyed it.
Right now, I am doing a Free Course related to PyTorch.
just because some people found jobs from it doesn't mean its the majority
also you can prob learn most of it on your own with free resources from the web
I agree with this statement. OpenCV offers free courses in Tensorflow, OpenCV, Python, and PyTorch.
There's also free webinars too.
Hey everyone 👋
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been deep in the job hunt for early-stage startup roles. I was spending hours every day tweaking my resume, filling out the same job application forms over and over, and… getting ghosted. 😵💫
So instead of burning out, I built a tool to do it for me.
It’s called VentureAI — an AI job application assistant that:
It’s still in early access — but I’ve already submitted 50+ startup apps using it, and got a few interviews already. If you’re looking to break into startups (or just want to stop filling out the same form for the 20th time), it might save your sanity.

i use it as a study tool for uni
Has anyone taken a "university bootcamp" like Michigan state university bootcamp that is run by edX/trilogy educstion?
If you did im so sorry, I did too
Has anyone been able to get their money back somehow?
is getting Salesforce certified worth it
What makes you think this?
just ome time a person came to uws computing club and tried to force a micro influencer named jeff from boba talks to get him a referral 😭
That’s pretty crazy. I know about Jeff from boba talks. Although I’ve never talked to him, he seems pretty open to meeting people.
But from my experience, referrals seem to not mean much unless you have built goodwill with the referrer.
He only mentors women btw

Hello, has anyone completed the dev10 program?
Hi I’m David, founder of Owesome.
I’m seeking a co-founder who can lead the technical side.
Owesome is a peer-to-peer rental platform where neighbors not only share items instead of buying new, but also build stronger bonds and community.
We connects people to share items, from baby gear to leisure equipment, saving money and reducing waste.
My vision is to make renting an essential, everyday act of sharing in every city worldwide and to connect every neighbor through rental.
If you believe in changing how people share and connect, I’d be glad to connect and talk more.
Feel free to reach out to me, thank you.

If you’re building on Vercel, sending emails usually ends up being more work than it should be.
You either wire up another service, manage secrets across environments, or add background jobs
just to handle something basic like OTPs or notifications.
That’s why we added native Vercel Functions support in Keplars.
You can now send transactional and scheduled emails straight from your Vercel backend using the same API routes
and serverless patterns you already use.
No extra infrastructure, no separate workers, no detours.
Deploy, add your API key, send your first email.
Email shouldn’t force you to rethink your architecture.

I am looking for arduino developer to integrate OYA on STM32H7 using the Arduino STM32 Core. if you r interested, please send DM.
Any bootcamp recs?
Odin project for quant, Coursera for web dev, udemy for ML
Good recs
I did all 3 and now am bespoke SWE for Tower Research
Wow
is odin not webdev
thats what googles saying :/
Transferable skills lol
Odin project is outdated for web dev but the ruby track transfers really well into quant
What was your schedule like? Currently doing the Odin project Ruby on Rails track. Not a very popular stack but felt like learning it.
and how does it transfer to quant? I am not too far into the course
@covert sable can answer this one
Chill, just curious. Im not even interested in becoming a quant. Just never heard of ruby being used in quant
It’s not. Mostly C++ and Python
I assumed so
How to become a quant
@deep echo how is odin project relevant to quant. i thought one had to be good at solving coding questions(like from codeforces) and math. I'm not sure tho
boot campers i like a job

I got an interview for manager role and did it. However, haven't heard anything after that. Hopefully can get accepted, got nothing else this semester 😭
Out of curiosity how is job searching for current boot campers?
absolutely terrible
Which one did you attend?
i did not attend one. i'm speaking upon my friends experiences that i've met at local conferences et al that have done on many of the popular ones
yeah. anecdotally. the ones with good prevs (that've done bootcamps) have had success, but you can't get those prevs nowadays like say back in 2022.
Cooked but Odin project is still going strong 💪💪💪
