Yooooo, rejoice my Europeans and Asians friends
first
Europe Asia is my favourite continent
U know the mod is uncultured when they call it europe asia
Since we finally have this chat, has anyone heard back from Amazon Berlin or Google EMEA?
I'm waiting on a reply from both after taking the OA
I heard back from Google with a questionnaire exactly a month
Anyone one looking for roommates in London UK from Jan - April?
anyone from europe asia looking for a job in europe asia?
think finding a job is hard enough without being so picky
anyone done final for google antarctica?
anyone doing final for amazon at yemen?
Nah bro, I'm going for the Google Moon SWE internship
Any lists for London New Grad?
Did you bag something cool?
Nope still interviewing
Got my palantir onsite next month
G?
Nope I’m new grad so they’re all closed this year
Really sad indeed
Hopefully, there will be spots for internal conversion

U interned at G right?
Good luck m8
No dox pls
Does anyone know if PolyAI UK sponsor visa?
I don't think so
Hi is there any job lists for open European fresher positions?
yes
updates on London Bloomberg undergrad interviews?
they're giving out offers
ik
curious if someone was yet denied for “reached headcount”
I’m in my final stage of the interviews so I better rush my recruiter
The UK is really struggling atm
Can’t see it picking up soon, there’s nothing and seems like the recession is probably worse than expected
Anyone got some thoughts/copium for me
Any lists for companies that sponsor visas in EMEA ?

hi y'all
What’s the best post grad school in the uk for non cs bachelors?
depends on your budget (if you are international), otherwise i think imperial college london is really good
If you just want the "best" then oxford or cambridge depending on the subject
imperial, ucl and lse are up there too
ty ty
Any advice on breaking into swe for non cs bachelors (apart from masters, bootcamps, developing your own projects)?
There's not much to it other than that
Pick either masters or bootcamp, and make your own projects alongside your studies
Do firms in UK auto reject international applicants?
I’m from Canada but have dual citizenship. Applied to a few spots in uk, but mostly just ghosted
No, most firms will sponsor
Okay yea plan on looking for new grad if things don’t pan out to well here
Although more in the semiconductor space, I know Xilinx, Apple, arm and others have offices there
i think xilinx is now part of AMD ?
cirrus logic? they have offices in Edinburgh
nordic semi conductors in bristol/swindon
i know these companies sponsor visa, i have international friends in these companies
Bet bet. I’ll take a look at them
dual with uk?
Yea Xilinx is amd now, although I’m not sure how that relates to hiring. I guess maybe if amd isn’t doing to well that will extend to the acquired Xilinx teams
Yea my moms from there so I have a passport. Haven’t lived there though. Only visited
all these replies about sponsoring mean nothing then. just choose the "dont need sponsorship" button, i doubt living abroad will make a difference to your chances since you have citizenship
you probably werent ghosted just cause youre international, the vast majority of apps get ghosted regardless
No but as in on my resume I have a Canadian number, my email is .ca and things of that nature. Was wondering if that could potentially hurt the application before someone even takes a look. I do mention in the cover letter I have citizenship
Yea most places do ghost lol
yeah i doubt that's making a difference
as long as u say in the app tat you dont need sponsorship, you're all good
Okay makes sense. Thanks !
np
that shouldnt affect your application, if you have a citizenship then you should be considered before intl and eu people i believe
i think you get hired under AMD
my friend was in the process with xilinx but he end up signing a contract with AMD
I just submitted a p50 tax rexclaim form for my last internship
waiting for the results rn
should get a response within two weeks
if you wanna have a look https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/income-tax-claiming-tax-back-when-you-have-stopped-working-p50
Do you have to wait until the tax year is over or can you do it right away after your last day?
I waited till the tax year ended but I don't see applying after the internship as an issue as long as you're sure you won't receive any more income
"When you can apply for a refund
You may be able to claim back Income Tax now if you’ve recently stopped working, for example if:
you are looking for work and you’ve been unemployed for 4 weeks or more
you do not expect to go back to work
you’ve returned to full-time study"
Oh thx! 🙂
if anyone is interested, we have a server for amazon waitlist EU
Anyone apply to the Dyson graduate scheme in the UK?
Can a canadian citizen move to the middle east and work remotely for a european company?
If the company is okay with that i guess but no sure how taxes would work
Mainly cuz many eu countries have higher taxes than those in the middle east
You can only use this command in 2022_winter_intern_process, 2022_summer_intern_process, 2022_grad_process, 2022_fall_intern_process, 2023_summer_intern_process, 2023_winter_intern_process, 2023_fall_intern_process, 2023_grad_process
that’s basically all you get lol wtf
In UK (London) non-tech companies usually pay between £35-40k, in finance you’ll mostly be at £50-70k and for faang £70-100k
I think they’re fine compared to col, 35k is enough to rent a room somewhat centrally and live a decent life but you won’t be saving much
In finance, trading or big tech you’ll be chilling for sure. And there’s lots of finance jobs in London
Yeah UK salaries are very similar to Canada
Yeah I do, but probably not soon
Both of our major political parties oppose rejoining so it won’t be for a while
joining eu again will be sik
35 is not enough lmao
im not saying you'll be renting a high rise penthouse in central london lmao
i said a room "somewhat centrally", which 35k is definitely enough for
that sounds very out of touch
rooms can be found in zone 2 for like £800
i mean fair enough if you dont wanna live there on less than 50k but to say that less than that is just "surviving" is wild
less than 30 is where you really have to start worrying lol
if you want your own place then thats a fair baseline
Just because people live in poverty doesn't mean its enough
Living with roommates is such a variable experience. Being able to afford your own 1 bedroom is the standard
And in zone 2 that typically runs you for 2k rent
So you should need 5-6k post tax to afford comfortably
Aka 80-100k TC
If you're making less than that you aren't earning enough to live in z2 london
The London zone system reminds me of the movie “In time” with Justin Timberlake 😂
Shit city tbh
The fact you need a top 2% wage to live comfortably is insane
If you didn't break into IB or FAANG+ tech forget it
Property price for a 3 bedroom in a decent area 3 million...
300k TC isn't enough to raise a family
Shit city
35k is absolutely not poverty 😂😂
This is such a cscd user moment
McDonalds manager make 36k
You earn less than McDonalds employee on 35k
35k is absolutely poverty
Why go 60k in debt and study cs for 3yrs just to make less than you would have at McDonalds?
When the average american cs grad is making 70-90k, why are you saying 35k is "ok" in the UK?
Insane
God you are so out of touch lmfao
Not sure where you think mcdonalds managers make 36k but that’s irrelevant regardless
35k is like an average salary in london, not sure I’d say it’s low for any field
Ask non-stem grads what they think of 35k
36k is how much you'd make at McDonalds
ANything less than 60k is poverty anyway
Doesn't matter
Sick of people normalizing poverty wages
No, I actually live in London
I'm trolling because I gave you literal evidence you'll make 36k with no degree and a few years of working at McDonalds 😂
“Less than 60k is poverty” 😂😂😂😂😂
And you think it's a good wage
If you can't rent a studio with it, and you are forced to live with roommates, it's poverty wages
And save not much
If it's enough to afford you a studio at the minimum
And ideally a 1 bedroom
It's not poverty wages
It is that simple. Being forced to live with roommates = poverty
😂 right
Take camden for instance. Close to west end where most london tech jobs are. Zone 2. Average rent is 2k. In order to comfortably afford 2k rent you should be making 6k post tax with the rule rent = 33% of income
If ur bad at personal finance it's not my problem bud
I've decided to marry an american to boost my TC
I am not shitposting, I am being serious
We're doing the legal marriage later this year. I'll have my green card by end of 2024
Early 2025 at the latest. Though my current company does sponsor internal H1-B
So I might move there instead
Devs in the UK from absolute top tier unis with internships moving to london make 50k on average fam 😭
UK is a pathetic place for tech
this "rule" doesnt scale to higher incomes because eg having 40% left of 100k after 5k p/m rent is much more money than having 66% of 40k left
i hope you never have to face real poverty because you are so incredibly out of touch with reality, it's crazy
Nobody is unironically renting for 5k
I grew up in poverty 😂 I'll bet my left nutsack you're a privileged MC cunt
This city sucks and people who can't LC will forever cope about why their TC is <100k
you grew up in poverty and still think that 50k is poverty?
Leave to america
You'll be on paycheck to paycheck stressed out about bills on anything less than 60k when raising a family
The fact that you can live life like that is acceptable if you're a minimum wage cleaner or a bus driver because that's your education and socioeconomic status and condition
Getting an education that's rigorous in a field that's supposed to be high paying and earning a similar amount is absolutely ridiculous
you think 60k is minimum wage?
As I've already outlined, you can make more than 35k in London simply by being an electrician
close to?
nice try bud
your words not mine
Your argument is so weak you have to put words into my point
.
"similar amount"
You will be living paycheck to paycheck on 60k while raisingi a family
35k is similar to minimum wage

Your life will be more or less identical
Your life doesn't change in terms of comfort until 45k
And you aren't at a normal and healthy standard of living as a single bachelor until 60k
At 100k you can relax a bit, rent out somewhere nice, go on holidays and vacations, but you're still too poor to do normal things like save up for a house down payment or pay off your loans in comfort
You only reach a normal middle class standard if you're a sole earner at 150k or so
Especially as these are all pre tax and not post tax incomes
So you can slash them even further
I stand by what I originally said
You aren't comfortable on less than 300k truly
IDC for copers who don't want to grind their LC
Yes this city is dogshit
i realised u were trolling a while back but this is the best thing uve said so far lmao
I passed 2 rounds at elite quant fund
TC 250k
They ended up simply stealing a FAANG senior who got laid off
I passed all technicals
Was just HR round left
Sucked ass
No I am serious. I have to live in zone 5 because I'm only on 130k TC atm
i inherited a 6 bedroom penthouse in the shard from my parents
My criteria for brokie is do you have enough assets to allow you to not have to work anymore
I am dead serious
You are convinced a very poor qualify of life is standard
Capitalism has lied to you
I have a friend in america, 4 YoE facebook frontend team
He owns 3 houses at 29
That's normal for a dev
He can just stop working and relax
If he rents them out he gets what? 7-8k a year post tax? And he can comfortably pay off any things such as heater replacements or repair costs because he has >100k in his account
All he had to do was work at FAANG for 5 years in the states
He's not even special. He was a physics major
He only bothered with tech later on
This is normal
If you genuinely majored CS, interned at top tier places, have some amount of engineering skill (you don't need that much, what passes for quality code at FAANG places is hilariously low), and you can solve meds reliably in 25-30 minutes, your american counterpart will be earning well north of 200k a few years in
Usually on 70K as a minimum before graduating, often more
Take your british counterpart. They're on 40k if they're lucky, and 75k a few years in if they did unbelievaly great
Short of places with low headcount like HRT or Citadel, you aren't making american money here
It just sucks
last part is true
but i mean if you interned at top tier places you'll be on well more than 40k as a new grad
obviously doesnt make up for the difference between the us and outside the us
If you can secure a full time offer 😂 it’s not like they hand it out like candy 😂
this year is definitely different 😂 but at faang most people do get returns
i know someone who still hasnt heard if theyre getting a return or not from their meta internship last year
It's not coming
yeah prob not
I Hope situation gets better until September 😅
Last year I was getting interviews from PLTR / HRT / Citadel anywhere I wanted...
I could have 20 quant eng interviews lined up in a month if I felt like it
Now nothing
Quiet
I got some random hedge fund in NYC and that was it
Mako Trading too but their comp sucks
50k 😂
its more than that but yeah, lower than the bigger places
CS + Maths, Top 10 russel group, but not Oxford Cambridge Imperial or UCL
I did undergrad ML research after my first year, contributed to open source a little, did some LC
Nothing particularly impressive tbh
Just pay attention in class and find something that looks nice on your CV outside of class
For me it was my ML research
Learn your LC well too
Hahaha extrem prices 😂
Inside the most expensive food store in the whole of the UK!!! Wholefoods is the ultimate in luxury food and elite ready made meals. Come with me on a tour and shopping trip around the amazing Wholefoods. Will it be worth the price?

Interned at a well known quant fund then the recession happened 😂
Well it depends. Why do you want to do a masters?
IMO masters make sense when
- You want to use university name to leverage higher paying jobs
- You want to break into a field in CS that needs a masters like ML / Robotics
- You want to do a PhD
Quant dev or quant analyst?
Or the master is “free” in your country
Quant dev is just typical LC, but a bit harder than normal. Sometimes they throw in CS fundamentals and some basic math to be cruel, but generally it's no different from FAANG interviews if you were particularly unlucky
Honestly, it depends on the firm greatly
I'd never pass HRT if I'm being frank lmao
But my old employer just asked a few LC meds and CS fundamentals then an applied programming exercise
Medium in 25 minutes regardless of topic is the golden standard
We had some folks who could medium in 15 / hard in 30, but thats if you want to be surefire
If you can't find a FT going back to school is a good option, but even a low paying tech job > masters
As long as you're staying close to writing software
We had people from all kinds of weird companies in my old employer. Quant Engineering positions aren't as gated as status as people think
IMO that's only true at really fancy places like Tower Research or HRT or something
If you're good at engineering you stand a decent shot at getting into one
What kind of masters program are you looking at?
Hedge fund SWE -> Quant fund SWE is well tracked exit path
What rank is your school?
Holy shit
Do the masters if you can afford it then
You telling me you going to a school like that and you can't land a FT 😭
What has tech come to
Do it if you can get the waiver
Insane
You go to a T10 CS school n can't land FT
Tech is dead 😔
Surely you applied to a normal place that just asks LC easy's?
Like a pharmaceutical company or a university or a supply chain company or a bank or something
They are the ones that hand out OA's like candy
Makes sense
I experirenced something similar
Ah you need sponsorship
That explains it 😭
Alexa play Money, money, money by ABBA tiktok remix
You've been watching Tate too much
So if you don’t earn like top 1% you are poor. damn that’s not how it works ffs 🤦♂️
it’s not like you can reach to be a business manager at mc with 36k easily either
only a couple are like this
when you compare the salary at a place, don’t take into consideration the top wage
if you wouldn’t have made a bachelor and just went straight to mc, prob the salary would have been around 20-25k
if your phone breaks and you can’t afford another one … that’s bad. but with 60k+ I’m pretty sure that if your phone breaks you can easily buy a new brand iphone
Doesn’t have to be an iPhone but yeah I get what you want to say.
I think 2 things in London are way too expensive: Housing and transportation
Like unless you want to share with other people you will pay a lot.
And if you work in zome1 you have to pay at least ‘3.4 x 2x 20=136GBP for transportation to get there by tube (assuming you live in zone 2)
136gbp / month?
Transportation
Too much or too little?
Well … 60k goes something like 5k pre tax. I don’t know surely how taxes work in UK but I believe you can still have 3.5k / month. So 136 in respect to that is ok
I still have to figure out how tax work but I use the government website for that:
I Hope this is correct otherwise I am screwed this summer 😂😂😂
Prob it’s accurate
when I was looking I just typed “uk tax calculator” 😂
but this one from the gov is more trustworthy
Subscribe to Stand-up Maths for more tax tips this useful or less.

National Insurance rates and categories (by Hey Mate, Right Cash) https:...
Problem is as foreigner you don’t know your tax code 😅
true
but idk isn’t the basic one?
are bonuses taxed?
saw a lot of companies giving that
why they don’t just put it to the salary
I assume there is some trick such that with bonuses you don’t pay taxes
is that so?
Bonuses are (as far as I know) taxed the same as income. Companies do not provide you with a tax code because they do not know all your details. That’s why you have to hand them the p45/60
Ps: no financial advice 😂
Just salary and tax details, you only get p45 when you leave the job, p60 is end of each tax year (April)
Didn’t Jane street asked you for one of them?
This is correct
They count as part of your annual income and are taxed accordingly
But luckily you can get a tax refund when you only do an internship 😂
National insurance you can’t get back.
Yep
But honestly I am happy to pay the full national insurance. I think it’s a good cause 😂
Is the national insurance amount someone pays per month used to calculate the job seeker allowance?
Really? I mean there is a so called tax free allowance but this only means if you total annual salary is below X (maybe 13k) you don’t pay taxes at all. I assume you total annual will be way way way more than that 😂
I would actually go to a pro about this because it’s better to get once good help than 100000 shitty help with false information 😂
Especially when bonus is like 80k or more
Yea indeed that annual allowance is around 13k
But are salary and bonuses taxed together?
Because I know companies that give like 5-10k sign-on bonus
And I thought that means the person who accepts this kind of offer will get the full untaxed sign on bonus
This is just out of curiosity. In my case anyway I will just go with whatever Jane wants. I am not picky. But I was talking with friends from other companies and I wanted to know about how much will they actually get hehe 😂
Yep it’s taxed together
So if someone makes like 50k + 20k bonus they are in the tax bracket for 70k
Hahaha is it possible to get the sign on bonus in one tax year (aka last year) and then start the job in the next tax year (aka this Mai) 😂
So if you never worked in the UK you get more out of the sign on and then start work normally in Mai 😂
Can’t you file for it right after your first day of unemployment?
Complicated 🥲I thought it’s just a simple click in an app
It’s not a huge amount = 1 million 🥸😂
How are you overtaxed?
Like the annual salary is X and you are taxed for that
But you worked let’s say 10 weeks and you need to be in the tax bracket for X/52*10?
Doesn’t the company takes care of that … to be taxed only for the sum you’re actually paid?
so i got taxed as if i was on track to make £96k even though i only earned £16k during the internship
Hmrc taxes you based on annual salary, you have to claim back your tax paid at the end if you aren’t working the whole year
Yeah basically this
So you automatically get it back at the end when the system “fix itself”
ohh got it. well I don’t mind waiting
although
how would they send you the money
because if I open a card in UK, I would probably keep it open only for the duration of the internship, no?
You can get a cheque
Yes, it is
Where are you staying @rare prairie?
Camden or Acton or something idk

graduate doctor in the uk makes 29k

or if your bsc isn't in CS
past few years been really entertaining to see how more and more people have revelations on how shitty uk jobs/wages market is
people are just used to american big tech salaries being the norm
especially in this server
cause if you compare to places outside of the US we're actually paid pretty well in the uk in tech
Tbh I’ve heard India is very good for salary vs cost of living in tech
Yeah
People on blind talk about how your quality of life decreases moving from India to US on L1
If you’re in faang +
Yeah but you’ve seen how people budget in this server lmfao
Rent 5k, doordash 6k, that’s all my money gone :(
And then never use it cause they live in central manhattan
daymn. what’s this website?
Ty
70k in india is basically rich
Average wage there is 2k
They're basically making over a mil in indian living costs terms

Hi all! I'm new here and new to coding. I'm looking into the School of Code bootcamp in the UK, has anyone had experience with them?
no one ever
Does anyone know where I can find affordable housing in London UK this summer for an internship?
look at student halls
or just spareroom
Tried student halls but you have to be enrolled in a UK uni for it
spareroom is probably your best bet for cheaper accom
I got quote 1300k for shared bathroom and no kitchen. Its extremely pricey.
Spareroom is the cheapest way to go
Hahah yeah
yea housing market is awful and you will find it very hard to find short term properties
my flatmate was looking to rent out his room
we're in kensington area
i'll also be doing summer internship
Hey! Does anyone know if I can apply to software engineering/developer roles in countries in Europe as a U.S citizen? Most European jobs I found require me to have E.U citizenship, or a work visa already. I'm not sure where to start to get a visa. Does anyone know a resource where I can apply for jobs in Europe that provide visa sponsorship, or hire U.S citizens?
Or a process to transition from the U.S to Europe?
yes, you can. for the uk you can find the list of approved visa sponsors here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1157183/2023-05-17_-_Worker_and_Temporary_Worker.csv/preview
it's generally a bit easier to get visa sponsorship here compared to the US but there are still a lot of companies who don't
you need a job offer to get the visa, so that's the first thing you gotta do and that'll be the same for other countries as well
Understood! Thank you for the advice and the link! Much appreciated! @drowsy bane 😊
Did you move to the U.K?
nope, born here
Or get a job at a U.K company?
scotland, but im going to london for my job
very happy with it
but if you want US-level salaries, you won't find them here
True, yet I feel that it balances out with the different lifestyle
Is this only for US Citizens? Indian software engineer, living in the US, looking to move to the UK, here. What would you do in my shoes? Get visa and look for jobs/interviews, or vice-versa?
it's the same, you need to get a job offer from a company who can sponsor you
if you graduated from a top tier university you might be able to get the HPI visa, you can look into that as well
but otherwise, you just need to apply to jobs who provide visa sponsorship
Alright. Thanks for the info🫡
no problem, also if you work at a company with a UK office right now you might be able to transfer there, that would be the easiest way
Yeah, unfortunately, I don't, but on the lookout for such companies as well
if you are from a good school, you can also apply for the high potential individual visa which is a relatively new scheme offered by UK. essentially within the first 5 years of your graduation, you are guaranetted a two year visa for you to look for a job in UK, without the requirement of a sponsor. It is to attract ppl to come uk for job hunting
u can check out here
Anyone here familiar with Murex?
Hey, I need some help evaluating this offer I got.
I interviewed with a US Cloud SaaS company and they offered me 73k + 17k in RSUs (issued quarterly, vesting period 4 y) that will be part of my salary indefinitely as long as you show good performance. So the RSUs are not guaranteed and only useful four years later. The rest of their terms like PTO, insurance and benefits seem to be doing the bare minimum.
I currently make about 78k working 36hrs and I've been looking for a job that would allow me to work 40. Effectively my 40-hr base would be 85k already. Frankly I get 10 more days of PTO in my current job.
I am a senior ML Engineer with 5 yoe + 2 years of full-time internships, this feels like a deliberate lowball. Am I supposed to be negotiating my way up?
Hey folks how do I land a job in the UK a Canadian? Is sponsorship a thing? Or do I need a visa first?
if you graduated from one of the unis on this list, you can apply for the HPI visa and come here and you can get a job without sponsorship:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/high-potential-individual-visa-global-universities-list/high-potential-individual-visa-global-universities-list-2022
otherwise, you will need to find a job first and get sponsored
Wow.... Even the govt looks at top 5 unis 💀
They don't have Waterloo on there? Lol what the heck...
I didn't go there but it's literally our best school
Yeah loll
The criteria is that they are in the top 50 on at least 2 ranking lists which are usually based on research so I guess uw probably isn’t super research focused? I dunno
oh nvm it'll be cause it's not subject specific and waterloo isnt that good for anything other than cs/math i think
Do you know how difficult it is to get work visa sponsorship in the UK?
Hmmmm, this is interesting https://www.gov.uk/youth-mobility
definitely hard but nowhere near as hard as the US
if a company offers sponsorship, you will get it if you pass the interviews - there's no lottery or anything like they have there, and more companies offer sponsorship
but market is obviously bad rn
I may be able to get the mobility visa and apply without the need for sponsorship
👌🏼
not sure why you posted this in #europe-asia, but it is def lowball. I also don't know how can RSU with clawback are common only at the exec level, so I don't know why they would do them for an IC.
Yeah because I'm based in the Netherlands, but the offer is remote
are those numbers dollars or euros?
Euros
oh that changes a lot of things. That TC is between Uber SWE I and Uber SWE II... which means your offer is on the lower side, but it is not a lowball.
Really? 91k isn't that much. I also have a 97k offer which I will turn down because there's a lot of travel involved
but also keep in mind that Uber is most likely a tier above your SaaS company in paying employees
The average total compensation is €132,260 for tech workers at Uber in the Netherlands based on 47 salary data points. Total compensation includes salary, bonuses and equity.
This one has a few more data points
I mean, I might be saying the obvious, but you should try getting a counter-offer from Uber, Databricks or Optiver. Or maybe Booking and Adyen as well since they pay a bit above for your current seniority.
hehe well I applied to Adyen but didn't get an interview
They hired my intern from last year though
wait until they become a manager there and get a referral to work under them 😉
Mwah
Most big companies in Amsterdam have slowed down or paused hiring
I usually get pinged for senior+ or lead level
check dm
hey guys anyone in italy?
might go there, but for the summer holiday
Did anyone managed to get out of EU and work in USA? If yes, how did you do it and what advice would you give?
How did you arrange the marriage? Did you pay the other person? And how much do you have to stay married ?
but that's after 1 year right?
How are European salaries compared to US these days? Not just for FAANG level but general pay
Terrible
US salaries are around 30-50% higher depending on the company
This is for London btw. Elsewhere it will be a bit lower (except Switzerland)
I'd happilly take Swiss comp, but living there? Dunno.
Based in London right now, it's crap in many ways, but I don't think I'd leave it for Zurich for example.
YMMV though.
you are from eu?
Oh nice
Zurich is as expensive as NYC tho
yeah in zurich you can get US-level salaries at places like google
The US has had a higher poverty rate for the last 40 years
Pretty much the choice is, would you rather have more government help with living and healthcare or would you rather pocket a little bit more. Cost of living and healthcare in the states is high. You should make excel sheets to compare location costs and salary expectations
If anyone’s looking for a flatmate in london within the next 2 months hmu
Has anyone successfully landed a London internship as a United States citizen? I heard there is a shortage in the UK
i know a guy from the us who got a new grad role in uk
I see, how was getting a work visa like for them?
I went there twice and liked it, also visited Meta there before. I saw a new grad role there so was thinking what if
Since their SWE market could be different too
Ah gotcha
easy
u just find a company that sponsors and pass the interview
lots of companies sponsor here compared to the us
and yeah, meta isnt hiring atm but who knows whats gonna happen
is it ez get offer in germany with no german
yeap german isnt a pre-req
Lots of mid to large companies have english as the office language
anyone gib job for canadian
anyone working in dubai or doha
Anyone know dates when they open new grad positions in eu?
Whats the best way to look for internships in the EU? I'm a US-EU dual citizen who lives/goes to college in the US but I'd love to work somewhere in the EU over the summer. Is that possible?
Same way as USA
Anyone know of any junior positions / internships on Cloud / backend engineering ? Preferably remote
Sysdig
I wanna collaborate with person who is located in Finland
I am looking for visa sponsorship SWE (2 YOE) roles in EU/UK. Any channel where I can find and share related openings?
is there any github repo for EMEA internships?
nope
Any recommendations on EU unis for a CS master ?
ETH Zurich , TUM , KTH
add saarland to the list. sneaky little place, but comparable to most of top places in EU if you are into research. Another great university is university of tuebingen (top research into ML, big industrial+academic colabs)
TUM, EPFL, ETH, KTH, TU Delft
use csrankings.com and search for the area of research you are going to persue. Then select the EU region and you will have universities ranked from doing most research to least.
if not that, then maybe an equivalent of levels.fyi but for the EU market?
Politecnico di Milano, Leiden
Do they offer anything else related or just pure CS ? Cause everything you mentioned is where I’m gonna apply
Yeah if I remember correctly Leiden has masters with specializations in computer networking and cybersec
While Milano has HPC
Checked and I’ll probably apply there too for the CS one. Deadlines are a bit weird though. Do you know how much time they give you to respond ?
hmm no clue, but surely you can contact them and ask
however Milano doesn't really have a phone no. and you have to contact them through this kind of chat
i'll save you time, don't look for the phone number :p
Sure will cause applications for the next year open in like 5 days or smth and I’m in no way prepared
Do they respond fast ?
wait, so you'd be applying for the upcoming winter sem?
Yea
I mean next winter, not the one coming now
but you can try for the summer, if spending the winter sem leetcoding at home is not an issue
ahh
Like September 2024
okay sure
then you still have plenty of time
but make sure to create like a Notion page with deadlines
it helps
I think I saw that they start applying at like September 5 or smth for the year 2024
Yea probably
this isn't improbable
from the ones I've applied to, KTH closed their portal on december iirc
Yea for KTH application starts at October 16 for people applying for the year 2024
Yea I want to apply to KTH, TUM, Politecnico di Milano, TU Berlin, Chalmers and University of Heidelberg
then make sure to write down the essay for TUM now when you still have time, or during the winter holidays
they require a scientific essay on a selected topic
my friend had to write one about the impact of AI or something like that
I kind of messed up as I was laying it off until later and then the deadline came
and that's a lot of writing
I think my first choice is KTH because they have a program I really really like (Software Engineering for Distributed systems). The other ones are simple Computer Science programs so if I don’t get into KTH (They tell you if you’re admitted at like April) then next summer I will apply to the rest
oh so you're a fellow distributed systems enjoyer:)
Will have that in mind thanks a ton
Yea I love anything related to cloud / DS, parallel computing etc.
yeah for sure
Did you go to TUM ?
let's move over to dms
Yea true, I’ll dm you
Hey, anyone received a tesla offer here (Germany or anywhere in europe)? I just got one and wondering if theres a dedicated channel for us. Thanks

well... I can get a work visa to UK without a job offer
just apply online
oh really?
might be the play, double your bets
yeah why not
UK is peanut TC like Canada with a few exceptions
not sure tbh but don't come here dude 😂
i think finance is the best place to be in the uk
canada is dead
Yeah you can do a 2 year working holiday in canada
interesting okay
where are you originally from btw
Stirling in scotland
i thought you lived in uk
Were in the UK originally? Also mind sharing what experience u had when applying? How hard were the interviews? Whats NG salary like?
Tryna get out of Canada too
Yall know of any Masters in Distributed Systems in EU (no UK) other than the one at KTH ?
Can you work in Switzerland if you only speak English?
yes
Hi
is it just eu or the whole job market is garbage right now for internships
I just aced amazon auto-oa and rejected afterwards
well, not immediately 3 days later to be exact. i'm a junior and everything was ideal. I don't have a work visa maybe thats why 😦
anything changed?
Did you apply for London?
ye
I also have a pretty good feeling for the assessment. Let’s see how it works out
anyone know any internships in french-speaking countries?
Datadog in Paris

Hi everyone,
I am actively looking for a job in the United Kingdom. I am a Turkish citizen residing in Istanbul and I have been applying for over 6 months and I just got like 6 callbacks or something. Any american's here who moved to europe for work?
So I did a co op with pharmacutical manufacturing company a couple mosts ago for their cloud automation department
When my co op ended my manager said I could continue working with them if I'm willing to move to denmark
I basically said no, because I didn't want to leave the us
but now tbh I'm not getting responses from my other apps, so I'm willing to bite the bullet and go to denmark
but I wanna know what can I expect the process to be like? Will there be visa issues? Through schengen can I drive from denmark to Germany?
I was gonna apply to this, or like ask my manager to connect me with the hiring manager:
backend developer in manufacturing tech
But like I don't understand why I gotta go to denmark for it, it's a tech job shouldn't I be able to do the job in the US
This is the job requirements
Minimum of 2 years of experience working within software development
Experience working on Azure DevOps
Experience working with Python and Typescript
Experience working with AWS (specifically EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, and EB)
Experience with Shell scripting
Experience with secret and configuration management
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, like AWS CodePipeline and DevOps Pipeline
Good communication skills and strong team player
basically what I did in my co op here in the US
Yes you can travel within schengen with your denmark work permit
But you shouldn’t move country if you don’t actually want to lol

For an international student, which countries are good for software and data related job in EU?
For salaries, in europe it’s basically switzerland > uk, netherlands > germany > rest. If specifically EU then yeah netherlands and germany
Germany has ther easiest visa out of those. Eastern europe can also have a very good cost of living : salary ratio but less opportunities
Most job in Germany would require you to be proficient in German right?
Do you have any suggestions for English speaking country?

Hi, I'm an undergrad CompSci student with interest in SWE and Data. If there are any startups based in UAE who are hiring for tech roles, please do reach out to me.
Preferably those that have started earning revenue, even if it is below cost (I'm fine with unpaid roles as long as there is flexibility to work remotely and learning opportunities!)
As an executive at my university's club who has come up with multiple event ideas, I'm also good at brainstorming creative ideas and writing.
Thank you!
let me DM you
Hi, I have an sde2 interview at Uber. What to expect? What to study? Location: india, Hyderabad. I have 2 yrs of experience at amazon
Did you have an OA assessment first? I've also applied to Uber SDE2 and got sent the OA assessment. I haven't solved it yet.
Nope no oa for me. Also, the interviewer was very bad. She was super disinterested. Just came on, hi and all, and just gave me the questions. Did not have her camera on, wouldn't even let me use pen and paper, just sat in silence while I explained and coded my soln. Had no discussion whatsoever
Sorry to hear that. Did you hear back anything about a next round?
Not yet
Cool, well I hope everything works out for you, good luck 🤞
Thanks, you too

I'm looking to break into big tech ML/AI, but I want to work at most hybrid (2 days a week) in London.
I don't have a PhD, only Masters but published papers in machine learning/open source and good academics, 4 YoE as ML scientist/engineer. I am looking to work mostly remote and/or job stability/low stress or if its exciting + remote mostly e.g. Cohere/Hugging Face. Any Ideas?
I passed all stages last year for Cohere (and think its remote flexible) but had issue with matching.

🇬🇧 For summer interns in London!
Hi! Together with two other Google interns, we've found a great apartment to share among four people, but we're still looking for one more person. The lease is expected to start in the first two weeks of July and lasts for 3 months. The landlord only rents to complete groups of four, so it's important to commit for the entire period.
If you're interested, send me a message!

hi guys anyone passed a phone interview for amazon luxembourg sde new grad ?
Oh yes actually, I did. Cancelled my final round, because I got Amazon Dublin.
This is quite niche but anyone looking to be flatmates in Dublin?
How was the phone interview !?
It went good, he asked “Most recent one time Amazon customer”. If you can do and understand lru cache easily, then should be able to adapt a solution
I think the big factor for me was that I was constantly talking and explaining my algorithmic thought process
Also tried to be too clever at start and mentioned a heap solution that was overly complex. He helped me by asking me to do brute force in my head using lists and then optimise
@quiet tinsel thank you so much for the information I really appreciate it 🙏 and good luck for Dublin
Nah already got Dublin. Why would I cancel Luxembourg final round before getting an offer
Yes got you like good luck for the work there 🙏
Ohh lol thanks
What about the interviewers they were cool ?

Hey, can you guys help me with these questions
-
What roles should I especially target, im assuming Databases and DevOps
-
I have worked with DevOps projects but using amazon's internal pipelines and tools, not the general docker and microservices stuff. Is it still a good fit based on my resume.
-
If I get an offer for a random no renown internship, should I take it or keep AWS as my last place of work and dedicate my time completely to big tech prep and applications?
-
I am very interested in the kind of work Oracle's database teams are doing, is it wise to target a very particular role/company? (I got to Oracle's final round and got rejected like 3-4 months back so will have to see what's the cooldown there)
-
My team during AWS internship was working on an open source github repository, so i'm still tinkering around with some stuff here and there to see where I can continue making open source contributions purely out of interest to it (I know the project very well and am well connected in the community), do you think its a waste of time?
plug the same into gpt

I have a bachelor's in frontend & mobile development, and I’m currently studying for a master’s in project management.
If you know of any fully remote opportunities that might be a match, feel free to DM me! 😊

Hi phoenix
How are you doing?
I’m new here!
I specialize in professional résumé/CV writing and LinkedIn optimization. Many job seekers have the right skills but struggle to land interviews because their profiles aren’t showcasing their strengths effectively.
My goal in this community is to connect with professionals, share insights, and support anyone looking to improve their résumé or LinkedIn so they can stand out to recruiters.
Happy to be here and looking forward to collaborating with you all 🚀

Thanks for the support, please.
Hi, I'm looking for dev. Are you interested in?
Hey, I am a QA Engineer/SDET, I am available to work in this field
This might be useful to some folks here: https://learnpath.app
I'm working on doing remote writing right now for some money. I write articles like: https://medium.com/p/9763c06eb21c You can help me by clicking it if you want and sign up to read or scroll too. The website has lots of software engineering and design post and people so networking on the website helps to get visibility in Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay Are as well. The job market for CS engineering is not looking so good for me and I've been feeling so lost. It's annoying. I'd love the support to help me with the remote writing online revenue so I could afford more things + keep afloat :) Thank you. My DMs are open for anyone who wants to work on career building or sharing opportunity too.
Hey devs 👋
Are you an international engineer from Australia, Singapore, Canada, Mexico, Chile or any other countries? Are you looking for U.S. visa sponsorship? We built something for you.
Gale Visa (YC W25) connects international talent directly with U.S. companies that already sponsor H-1B, TN, and E-3 visas.
Here's how it works:
✅ Fill out one form → get matched to multiple visa-ready employers
✅ No endless job applications or false promises
✅ Free for engineers, designers, and technical talent
✅ Companies come to you — not the other way around
Join here: https://forms.gle/PHU8ETV95TmYPmcC9
Built by engineers who've been through the visa struggle. Would love your feedback!
Hello, I have been doing remote writing alongside remote software engineering/cs roles since the engineering roles are kind of shaky right now. I launched a group called Potato Kindness, just to encourage writers to share stories on kindness and help the world be a better place. Writers do get paid on monetization similar to YouTube, by views and read. I will leave a link here if anyone is interested in doing this with some of their time in the week, maybe once a week, 1 hour or so, etc. to supplement their income(s) in this kind of labor market. There are also a lot of engineers, CEO, and big companies like Google/Apple/Meta who have teams on the website blogging about their technical engineering, workplace culture, and more so it is one other way to network and get conversations or visibility and engagement with companies. I'm happy to accept DMs too if anyone has questions. The guidelines are all here: https://medium.com/potato-kindness/potato-kindness-accepting-new-and-experienced-talented-writers-c7e102208473 I hope everyone had a great Merry Christmas and new goals entering into 2026 soon.
For my Google R1 (l3 I think) I have 45 mins coding and another 45 mins googleyness. Is it the same for anyone else in the process?
Hey everyone! I recently wrapped up the recruitment season with offers from Dropbox and Visa, and I passed the technical bar at Google (currently in Team Match). I also interviewed with companies like IBM and Dolby.
I prepped via the Google Student Mentoring Program, paid coaching with Google engineers, and heavy LeetCode grinding, so I know exactly what top US companies are looking for right now.
I’m offering Mock Interviews (DSA & Behavioral) specifically for American tech companies at EU student-friendly prices. This way, you’ll know exactly what to expect, what to change, and how to improve.
DM me if you're interested!
Quite a broad question, but has anyone left USA and moved to Europe internally ? If yes, could I please pick your brain?

✨ 6–10 AM EDT: Tech Morning Study Group ✨
Hi! I’m a Computer Engineering student doing a software engineering internship, currently practicing DSA/LeetCode for technical interviews.
I started a small morning study group focused on routine and accountability. Many study groups are casual and people drop in and out. This group is different. Members commit to a fixed daily time slot and show up consistently. Inactive members are removed so the group stays reliable.
Format
- 6–10 AM EDT daily
- 50/10 Pomodoro in Discord voice chat (camera off)
- University students or early-career people preparing for tech interviews
- Prefer similar time zones (Toronto, New York, etc.)
- Sessions scheduled and attendance tracked with a bot
- Small, respectful, long-term group
If interested, DM me with:
- Age / Major or Industry
- Time zone
- What you're currently studying
- Which time slot (6–7 / 7–8 / 8–9 / 9–10) you can attend consistently

Hey everyone,
I'm a full-stack developer from Europe with strong low-level background and two real shipped products.
From 2019 to 2024 I spent 5 years deep in C++, C, and Assembly - mainly gamehacking, web-based loaders, custom ImGui UIs, subscription forums, and advanced reverse engineering. Built a ton of internal tools and systems that had to be fast, stable, and undetectable.
Now I ship modern web3 stuff:
Swiftz (https://swiftz-xi.vercel.app Temporary Domain)
- Non-custodial crypto payment infrastructure (BTC, ETH, SOL, USDT)
- Dashboard, simple API, embeddable payment buttons, HMAC-signed webhooks
- Real on-chain verification via RPC nodes, live countdown + status
- Funds go straight to merchant’s wallet, monthly batch fee collection
- Built with Next.js 15 (App Router), Supabase + RLS, Vercel + cron jobs
Archvly (https://archvly.com)
- Full clothing marketplace with messaging, payments, refunds, disputes
- Brand-aware AI legit check - 99% accuracy tested on 20 listings (half were tricky non-obvious fakes)
Daily stack: Next.js 15, Supabase (auth + DB with RLS), Vercel, Solidity, RPC nodes.
Currently looking for freelance, contract or full-time opportunities - remote preferred, Europe timezones are a plus.
Especially interested in:
- Web3 / crypto projects
- Marketplaces or SaaS platforms
- Anything combining modern web with low-level / performance work
If you need a dev who can go from reverse engineering to production React + smart contracts, hit me up.
Live projects:
→ Swiftz: https://swiftz-xi.vercel.app Temporary Domain
→ Archvly: https://archvly.com
Happy to share GitHub, more details or jump on a call.
Thanks!
If you are ai enabled, does that mean without ai, youre AI-disabled ?
