false negative is whatever false positive is costly
in layman terms, they just dont want to work with dumbasses
How does HFT gets live updates from exchanges? Is it similar to a cron job? Or more of a Kafka consumer subscribing to the exchanges ‘s producer.
Thanks for the replies. Yup maybe Kafka wouldn’t work for this case.
Sorry @verbal ocean could I ask further, I thought for market update date udp is not used because missing packets can lead to a inaccurate book on the HFTs end which may end up generating wrong signals ?
Ahh alright thanks a bunch mate. I’ll read through that link above !
I see, something like co located
Co location*
has any quant firms allowed for a remote internship for swe?
you can tell if your packets are getting dropped and reconnect or something
often packets are ID'd too
so you can detect this
Thanks man, oh udp we have a way to tell if packets are drop?
Ok yes I think at a the receiver side you can, so probably just poll again
yeah its called a sequence number
daddys back
welcome back
Right right thank you guys
which role did you apply for, for de shaw/
whats that?
dm?
theres a qt role?
how?
i dont see it
o
to de shaw?
Should be fine if u have big tech tbh
Most ppl ik passed w like big tech internship
?
respond in dm my dude
dw about it
@solar axle hmu for de Shaw referrals
Just wanna say to everyone here @ember lava is a good person
Actually?
How important is the finance section of the green book for qt/qr?
Also as a follow up: if it is relevant to interviews, how do you get a grasp on that? It seems like they're throwing tons of stuff with no explanation
Not much
Can you believe I met final irl
Thanks
Did omc just close
im de shaw ceo now
ft or intern
they only had one intern position open
Intern
they only had desk support intern open or am i tripping
Oh maybe idk
damn they like 5 rings and tower?
they r way worse lol
5r is actually p flexible, ik loads of people from state schools there
oh shit LOL
true, mmy cousins went to upenn and cornell and they at 5 rings now
state school erpresenation
n3 brought up the school ranking to T0
wb dz
So uc is so many rankings above T1 schools that there’s a whole nother tier 0 that has no schools between uc and T1 schools
holy :orz:
🐮
i am from cmu
ok def not that
and for ml
i did ml related stuff at two companies
i had literally never heard of uiowa until now
good morning yahkuna.
so does snackpass
lmao
idk how they r profitable
probs exploitation of driver but like then wont ppl get bad at paying so many extra tips
@neat junco are you looking for ft or intern
i mean it's what u make of it, and making a rec sys algo is def legit
they def have lots of users
i think it's a great internship
i just dont like the prod
yeah i am not even sure how to answer that
¯_(ツ)_/¯
it's def great in tech industry
(so like lots of data for u to run ML models on)
but i mean this is kinda embarassing
ye it's j not well known in quant
and very weird to ask this kind of question
and not to mention i got extremely positive feedback for the final rounds there
have u graduatted yet
yes, planning to join gts atm
gts?
cg!
tyty
but i might be able to get an offer from cubist
so not sure if i should hop there later
still in pending approval process tho
i interviewed with academy before but this is general hiring
directly with pm team
dm
i think that would be a good ∂ecision imo
yeah in terms of bonus upside, pm team might be better if they're doing really great
just need more info tho
ye depends on pod tbh
to see the business of the pod
cold applied

Hello I’m starting bsc in computing this September. I want to get my masters, maybe PHD and go into HFT. Basically I want to do things that are hard and pay LOTS of money. Any help or advice or pointers for my journey ?
Hey guys! What does DE Shaw ask on their first technical interview?
Can someone tell me how to start a quant firm?
gimme ur money and i will make sure to double it :)
Sure. I’ll take your house as collateral. We can get the contract signed in an hour
ty sir
i feel if u do enough u begin to see patterns and trick
i think u just to have do a lot to to pick up tricks naturally, like for example one trick i found after doing a lot of arithmetic is that it is clear that if u were to multiply any 2 digit number xy by 11 the resultant value would be the xzy where z = x + y ,the summands of x and y
I did recruit for qd, qt and qr at the same time
In the past
It was def a burnout
Constantly feeling my brain not big enough to take it
U can break into that with cs degree?
Does consulting pay well?
Quant tc?
Same level?
Quant still better
It’s not related though
I’d rather do something I like as well
Respond to me dm
My dad makes close to 500k/yr as Deloitte director
🥜
Although cpp trivia is very broad the questions I’ve gotten have only boiled down to 4-5 topics
What have those topics been usually ?
Prob smth to do w virtual functions and meta programming
Those and new cpp features yeah
Many people have tried and failed
Like what
Modules and ranges?
oh damn didn’t expect it’d be like that
maybe it’s bc I’ve only heard of radix absolutely fucking ppl over w trivia on internals
i mean it's only bad if ur optimizing for speed (in which case you should use boost::dynamic_bitset), if ur optimizing for space then storing a bit over a byte is a good move (unless ur at a firm which helps develop cpp standards then they may be anal abt it not conforming to container semantics)
😐
experience
never been thru lcpp or any books
lcpp covers it
thats how i learned it
well
partially
but with intuition you can kinda piece it together to give an acceptable answer
lmao chatGPT sucks at C++
this is all cap
this is GPT4 btw (the new answer window shows the wrong pfp)
i would not trust chatgpt on anything C++
ok but like none of us have heard abt fucking JC Penny Incest ments for that rzn
ohh jpm
well it's pe
i think you should re-read my msg
specifically the last few words
ik some cracked people who went there
i dm'd u a profile
no idk them
my friend told me they are cracked though and my friend is like insane at icpc and was at tower qt & cit qr
so i trust their analysis
also his linkedin is impressive wrt past experiences
so i think p72 acad is fine
I mean how much metaprogramming do they expect interns to know
Idt it’s expected to be well versed at metaprogramming beyond generic programming, constexpr, etc for most intern positions at major firms
I see
depends on what you want
If you want to be on a LL team that’s not going to work out well
Low latency
If you want to be on a data engineering team or SRE or low frequency team you should be fine w Python
You can kinda do LL in Java depending on the place
2s strips the GC, exceptions, and a lot more from their internal version of Java
Ik they do infra in Go
P sure academy is a fbu/cit launch type thing right
Point 72 academy?
No it’s their new grad/intern investment program
nvm i confused it w cubist quant academy
which is like an internship
Hi all, does anyone have / found a cpp implementation of an orderbook that’s not more than 6+ years old?
Could I kindly have the link / reference to study and read it please
Perhaps a simpler version of orderbook and not those full scale one with 10K+ LOC would be easier for a newbie like me.
Thanks in advance guys
I mean what changes if it’s (1) 6 years old or (2) in a different language?
6 years old implies C++14 or 17, you can get up to do on new features and idioms via cop reference but the ideas should be the same regardless of date or language
It’s just trees at it’s core
ok cuz I was trying to google or SO or video on Orderbooks but most of the contents are quite old like 10 years + so was wondering if there’s something newer
Diff language yup, python has more and the DS used is probably same but just wanna learn more about how to properly code in cpp as well, I think the way you structure your code will affect cache misses or smth
But yup I did manage to find some quite useful ones eg quant cup 1.
Buy maybe if anyone has did it before and don’t mind sharing here or found a one that explains it really well or beignnernfriendly
how many years of C++ experience do they usually want for quant jobs?
If you want to see some examples of clean and modern C++, look at the Google Test repo
It’ll teach you more than any OrderBook (on GitHub at least) will
When did you apply
What’s the suggested prep for ng swe interviews at hft? Is it lc+brushing up on os topics?
I applied already didn't get rejected though
euclidean?
To where?
Desco
anyone have a good list of OS topics to review for quant swe internship process? am reviewing OS stuff anyway for a class I'm TAing next semester and might as well tailor it to The Internship Grind.
same
not getting rejected or moved forward
</3
Yeah same
How do you even study for that
Wdym
Like I have no idea how to approach case studies in general
Oh

Wait deadass?
🤔
what’s the strategy for zeta mac?
dn
not asking for a cheat code, but I can’t get above 12, and I took discrete math in highschool so i’m not dumb
so what’s the strat, I heard you have to read the numbers backwards?
ik you get a rise out of newbies asking for help so you can ego them, but pls, legit question
@thorn wyvern
thank you so much
i got you
In this video, I invited back Worthan Kwan, our favourite quant trader! Worthan explains step by step the quant trading interview process and the resources he used to prepare for his interviews - including an in depth explanation on how to do well in the mock trading that is usually in final round and messes up a lot of people.
Timestamps:

every aspiring quant saw this vid, that’s where we found the desire to get good at mental math
well I don’t actually want to be quant I just want to trade
but besides the point
552 / 12
holy shit
552 /12, where do I even begin
that’s actually insane
lol can’t have standup in 4 minutes
but i will def
some people can do 70 boss
explain
eurusd
is a good person
YOOO I DIDNT KNOW THAT WAS THE MEANING OF HIS NAME

i think for google tm if you know c++ oop and some modern c++ concepts it'll be auto offer
especially with gcp
i think you will def need unique+shared locks/pointers and besides that the list itself is very comprehensive
and if you really want to show you're super interested in c++, add type inference/systems and c++ functional programming stuff
Where’s this?
Bump 🥺
Are you trying to say that as it’s negation?
dream team
Eg. The lack of 1 hour of sleep is a 30% speed decrease
Dw ur good ur answering my q
electric vehicle
would u even wanna work at opt?
yes
in high school i used to say marginal utility, now i say ev
it's so cute how ive grown
What’s so special about that?
fr fr
hey u rich quants n traders
what the freak
I think mine is like 2
they still look at what you did and if it doesnt align with what they want its still a rejection
just cause you have google on resume doesnt give you instant credibility
they still look at what you did in the intern, and if its irrelevent you wont get through
no not even a bit youre wrong
ok? other companies youll be screwed
if none of them align with what the company is looking for
its a rejection for both
wdym by pedigree?
ok i agree
ive seen a rare case where a dude didnt have prestigous intern
and goes to non target
got into js swe
but really good at cp
evidence?
why?
true
why would he do that though?
really? weird
ik what ur saying now, when applying to a company people have to submit their resume and stuff
but for tech swe its true though
wb for qt?
alignment matters?
ive seen situations where a faang on resume didnt do much for some companies since it doesnt have what the company is looking for
for any role?
since theyre small, and need specific needs
so i guess thats a yes
since you said your statement
nothing
im just saying its a yes that alignment doesnt matter for quant
I’m looking to break into quant but I don’t know programming or math, how do I start ?
I’m a senior is it too late?
(English major)
At our 3WTC headquarters, Francisco leverages the power of math and statistics to explore an uncharted technical landscape. Working on mid-frequency strategies, he relies on in-depth analysis, strategic decision-making, and sophisticated quantitative research to drive impact far beyond himself.

Resume lol
You got desco order
In general to what extent are we expected to know options pricing and stuff before starting a quant job in hedge fund/prop trading firms
what is expected valuei
I think currently I know the basic stuff of black scholes and binary model
And a bit of greeks
Not sure if that’s enough
Ah that’s great to hear
Just hoping they’re not expecting me to come up with some spreading/butterfly strategies or the like
Thanks!
Cuz I feel like some strat details in options very tricky
Like so many variables involved especially lots of things combined along with dividend stuff
latter
depends on firm
there r def firms which only hire people from firms with good education training and expect you to be able to read vol surfaces in interviews
if you dont have that bg and they ask then it's sus af
cuz they want someone with no experience to be trading
I see. My interviews only consisted of very basic stuff about black scholes
And they even said they did not expect a perfect answer
did u intern at a prop shop before?
They asked cuz I had some projects in options
No
yeah that would do it
Yeah I know the basic details of these quantitative models and greeks
But I guess it’s everything I know
My project only did some straightforward optimizations on binary pricing model
SIG, Akuna, maybe Valkyrie, etc
sig prides their edu https://sig.com/campus-programs/trading/
oh yeah
ive seen some Valkyrie->headlands
and we know another Valkyrie intern -> js intern -> alameda trader -> unemployed (this is a fake example)
it's same tier as belvedere/wolverine but like akuna isnt considered particularly high tier yet people leave it for js every yr lol
& Co.

In the realm of numbers and intricate equations,
Where the markets dance in rhythmic fluctuations,
I yearn to tread upon a path most profound,
As a quant, where knowledge and beauty are found.
Like Hudson River, flowing with grace,
Or Jane Street, bustling at a rapid pace,
Radiant Radix, with its mathematical art,
And Jump Trading, where strategies depart.
Five Rings, a symphony of algorithms so fine,
Point72, where insights eternally shine,
Citadel, a fortress of quantitative might,
DE Shaw, delving into the depths of night.
Vatic, where data whispers secrets untold,
Arrowstreet Capital, weaving stories of gold,
In these hallowed halls of financial lore,
I seek to open the doors, forevermore.
A quant's journey, where minds are set free,
To traverse the bounds of complexity,
With every tick and trade, a puzzle awaits,
A confluence of numbers, where profit dictates.
In this universe of probability and risk,
I'll harness the power, with a mathematician's whisk,
Peering through vast data, seeking patterns unseen,
To grasp the elusive truth, a quant's serene.
I'll wield Python and R with virtuosic flair,
Charting graphs, forecasting trends with care,
From market dynamics to risk management's plight,
I'll navigate the currents, always in flight.
With each candlestick and order book's breath,
I'll dive deep into market depths,
Leveraging models, strategies refined,
Where beauty and logic forever entwined.
Oh, to be a quant, a seeker of truth,
Where algorithms dance, ageless in youth,
To analyze vast oceans of information,
And unveil the mysteries of financial creation.
For in these hallowed firms, luminous and bright,
Knowledge blossoms, a celestial light,
I yearn to join their ranks, to soar on their wings,
And witness the symphony quantitative brings.
With ardent passion and a curious soul,
I'll embark on this quest, my purpose made whole,
To weave my dreams with numbers divine,
And in the quant's realm, eternally shine.
anyone here interned at capula investment?
@rose holly Has nerd friends who want RO
I usually end work at 4pm or later
If I’m there after 5pm my boss yells at me to go home
I’ve now started to remote in so that way I can work more
does anyone know what to expect for the bridgewater first round "engineering discussion group" interview?
Where if I may ask
Do you know the typical ro rate for desco sde
That’s rough
What about JS
Oh
What about other mm prop shops
Like opt
I mean I think everyone wants RO but some people think there work without overworking is sufficient
Lmao just like me last year fr
Literally
Join ng a firm which only cuts interns
That’s dumb
Don’t overexert yourself or like stay all night at office or sth crazy but still try for RO lol
Unicorn but only in very good economy
Yes
And with high potential of ipo
Swe at tech can be boring
Especially big ones
i LOVE writing web apis
💀
Good move
Just to say, it’s really hard to join as a quant in cubist pm team
Most new grads get offer from quant academy
Which is only a rotation
just how easy do you think it is to become a senior in tech 🤔
has the quality of big tech hires just gone down as lc warriors get better
like what are the upper level firms doing in the hiring process to descriminate against candidates like that
It’s just a way to lower the probability of a bad outlier imo
unfortunate but fair
im talking about being good at programming
not good at lc
there are people who are good at lc and not programming
i suppose there is an argument to be made there
probably true
but also consider that senior eng have external responsibilities and might not have the time to grind out lc like new grads can
in the context of new grads there's absolutely no reason why u shouldn't be good at leetcode it is just practice
Seniors usually don’t have insane lc bar
Thinking process matters more
Also I think if you do lc and learn the pattern
some do not have a couple of months
It’s like riding a bike anyway
true
You don’t need to do lc all the time
Go thru the grind once and u can get back up to a good level fast even after months away
i still feel like internships should ask more of its candidates than lc
and ng
💀
this seems to be the case for quant firms but not so much big tech
im considering getting a masters maybe
if i can grad in 3 years
go to a better school
but in the long run idk if its worth i have interest in some finance roles but not enough math knowledge to benefit from it and do well in interviews
- im far far far better at programming
not really at all
if it's one of the boring questions that ask you to implement some trivial class sure
but if it's more resemblant of a typical competitive programming problem you could see on codeforces or similar
then coding and building projects and stuff since 12 years old will not really help
mathematical problem-solving skills matter, so math oly helps
but j coding doesn't really have anything to do with it
I am a counterexample to this, it’s definitely not true
Why?
What does good at lc mean to you?
I said after 5, not at 5, so I meant like at 6pm
We’re a pod that has a branch in London so we work 8am to 5pm
If I’m there at 5.30p or 6p he’ll tell me to take a break and come back tomorrow
I think most quant swe can do this
I think twice a week we have events at 4.30p usually like yacht trip or bowling or nyc food tour etc
So I would say wlb as a QR isn’t as bad as people think. When I work at like past 8p or check in on a job over the weekend it’s because I’m genuinely interested in the project and not cuz my boss is making me
how good is arrowstreet capital?
It’s not cope smh
I’ve had toxic bosses before who’d ask me to work overtime unpaid to fix their mistakes like 💀
Here they pay me well and make sure I’m not overworking and I have a lot of autonomy
I mean internships are a short time period
Most QR interns do one project over 10 weeks
But if you want to do 2 legit projects then you kinda have to automate jobs to backtest signals and check up on them over the weekend
So that when Monday comes you have something to move forward with
Also they pay me overtime here xd
I’m rising senior
I’ve just had past quant internships
Maybe that’s why you think I’m ft
If I was working this much as a ft even of my own volition it’d be a red flag
Erhm I’ve done QD and QR work in the past
rsha ur at cal right
What is fm?
Anyways my previous QR experience was equity alpha research with alt data on a L/S basis, my current project is hft stat arb. Other than being alpha research and using regressions, the work is pretty different
My previous internship had more emphasis on Bayesian statistics
But I don’t really see that here
yeah exactly that's p diff
Any place doing QD/QR internships remotely or having full new grad postions remotely ?
:( most are for masters/phd students :'(
my current firm says that they only accept PhD students and every other QR on the team has a phd (mainly from mit/harvard) but i applied anyways and they liked my profile so i moved past the resume screen
tl;dr apply anyways
But aren't you advanced undergrad tho ? I just graduated only have like two academic awards what is your firm ?
sorry i dont want to share any firms ive worked at here
any opinion i express is my own and not my firm's, where i worked is irrelevant
it is a place known for having a phd-req for quants though
Makes sense I just started looking at quant roles so i'm unfamilar with some of the mid-tier places
Hi there anyone has a list of hedge fund or prop firm or HFT ?
Those big names are easily google a ble but maybe some smaller boutiques or country specific ones pls,
Am in Singapore but don’t mint going to elsewhere
When I toured the SIG offices the Uber driver who dropped me off got so mad at me cuz I was late 😭
Does anyone have any clue about interning at capula?
Lol I think they’re only rejecting/accepting on fridays
At least a trend I noticed
They have some traditional finance industry practices
Lots of large banks do so
It makes sense cuz it’s one of the most long-lasting hedge funds
can anyone here give me a referral to any trading firms/banks?
yahkuna river trading
okay, i dm'd you
Mihari street or gtfo
Jane Capital, Hudson Street, Akuna Research, Headlands River Trading, Radix Research Capital
Anyone know what to expect for Headlands OA?
Aquatic river trading goes hard
did anybody get prop trading intern interview for de shaw?
What happened to tower :((
997 moment
The interview before or after the case study? The one prior was not difficult essentially a behavioral. The superday is after the case study.
Can I dm you?
They’ve only mentioned desco?
shoutout Tower Asset Management
bro why does shaw keep ghosting me
theyre teasing me
even after recruiter reachout
is omc open
idts
is deshaw open
what role?
ye
i can't find the apply button l.ol
accept cookies and add the posting to bundle and click apply on the bottom of the screen
holy fuck ily
systech
Yes
Yes
No
im going for internships lol
ye saw someone get that on linkedin lol
Wait wdym
Optiver
?
u said they ghosted u, right? but the applications opened not long ago?
did they ghost ur email?
it opened around a month ago
ppl who applied later have been getting responses
thats what i meant by me getting ghosted
did it open today?
i think so ya
Had a decent resume with 2 internships and projects got rejected for their new grad role
I applied for the trader role and met all their requirements 😢
Hi I am kinda new in this, has anyone had a Quant intern without being in a top university? I heard trading companies are very selective in that aspect
no. they would ask directly if so or just check resume with ATS
some companies ask for location when they wanna do coop where you will be spending half time school half time work onsite
lol just saw this but which firm
the app said you must be located near Boston at the bottom
it’s at their new lowkey Boston office
going back in time 🔥
Does two sigma have gpa requirements ? I was reading through their requirements listing and it seems they just look at experience
I had a research internship freshman year at a top tier physics lab and a project in senior that will be used by the graduate student in his research
Yeah I didn't get the swe position I applied in march and I applied for the QR position and it seems they want experience
Yeah for the swe role
And today I just put in the application for the QR role
I graduated from Indiana University if that counts for anything
These are the requirements for the role:
Degree in a technical or quantitative disciplines, like statistics, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, or computer science (all levels welcome, from bachelor’s to doctorate)
Intermediate skills in at least one programming language (like C, C++, Java, or Python)
Experience performing an in-depth research project, examining real-world data
Ability to think independently and creatively approach data analysis and communicate complex ideas clearly
Really 3.7 from Harvard is considered bad ??
What would be the soft requirements in this instance ?
I don't have any publications tho :'( just some research experience
Most likely I will get rejected by 2 Sigma
I honestly wasted too much time on non-major courses that I was forced to do ._.
Was told by advisor to just focus on tcs
But it seems my chances at 2 sigma are low :'(
QR
Theoretical Computer Science I started looking into grad programs I wanted to do Quant since at some places they like touch all layers of the tech stack
I had a recruiter from Selby Jennings contact me via email about an opportunity so I sent him a message back
Maybe I should just do Swe in Quant
Tho they said in the job posting they were considering all levels
Tho I wonder what 2 sigma is looking for in a candidate from the post it seems like they want more experience ?
Who is even writing the posting actual engineers or hr ?
I've seen people just start blind applying at this point
So far I have 2 research internships + 1 intrestring uni project an a B average gpa that outside of Quant has gotton some bites and i've gotton some online screeners
I'm doing the Akunacaptial course to prep for that interview
I wish these companies would not waste candidates time
Well the physics internship I did have me do some data analysis I only started looking at Quant because big tech just isn't hiring and some smaller finance shops have shown interest
Then again @regal sorrel you could say the same thing for me going to big tech like everyone literally wants 2+ years experience
Plus I still have the Akuna interview that I need to keep preparing for
Yeah like literally check most of the job postings under new grad or entry-level they are requiring 2+ years experience
So you mean gpa is weighted much less significantly if one has hft internship?
Is 2sig planning to hire entry levels this year
Just curious
Cuz last yr ik lots of folks including me who passed entry level interviews but got offer pulled out cuz no headcount
I don’t think they are legit
ive heard to avoid SJ
no idea why though
What makes you say that give me some insight. I'm like new to finance so I don't know it as well as the tech/research sector
2sig rescinded last year?
i never heard about that
8 votes and 16 comments so far on Reddit
Hmm what makes a firm low tier btw ? Even like mid-tier firms are still pretty decent and honestly good offers
akuna and js dont care abt grad date
Yes only for swe I think
bruh someone just sent me this 😭
ive never laughed so hard
this is insane chad energy
to be able to post this and not worry abt being blacklisted tho
idt i could ever do that
he’s friends w max dama
what's one's NW after 12 years at headlands
NW?
Net worth

Has anyone interviewed at Optiver? Have an onsite coming up and wanted to know what to review (been out of the interview game for way too long) (mb for double post)
Good luck
intern or ng?
experienced
has anyone had a phone at GSA capital?
do you know if they sponsor for the us
Yes
anyone know which firms potentially let u interview for more than one role? e.g. swe and qr
other than akuna
Is this still the options201
Why options 201 has such a high bar
It’s nearly the same as their qt interview process
Ah makes sense
Yeah I think options 101 was only the basic stuff
So 201 involves the actual strats?
idts? i think its behavorial right
Behavioral questions on problem solving + interest in de shaw + resume deep dive + few common trading questions
naa diff
apparently they also do bio research lol
swe intern
Rip I only know of QR ng
😼
this is what martin shkreli did
he was in biotech and could predict fda desicions for drugs with really good accuracy so he'd short the garbage buy the actual good companies
Shaw primarily does asset management via systematic and non-systematic strategies right?
Idt they do much MM
And Idt they do much HF
Ah. I was only aware of the base of the story, didn't read any more about it.
Although, if you can commit securities fraud and get away with it, doesn't that make you even better?
no like hypothetically
he also got his wu tang vinyl seized
that's the only sad part of his story
so it does make you better
shkreli frequented wsb... so
that may be well in order
right
🤣
is it possible to get quant without ivy league
nooo the non ivy league prestige saracasm is killing me 😔
i’m talking random public university
Rutgers is an ivy tho
YOOO RUTGERS REPRESENT 🙏
what school do you go to
what about personal portfolio generating 2k a week
so it has to be academic?
example
If u talking about swe at quant firms then it ain’t hard to pass the resume screen, not so sure about trading or research roles
Gotta have good experience with cpp
if it ain’t trading then I don’t want quant
if SWE then Netflix or Google
Linkedin is MIT and Duke
which is why I am asking is it only school prestige, if so i’ll just forget ab it
I know what you mean, but i’m OD on red pill
the truth is what fuels me
i’m not gonna apply with no quant related projects
I know
but i’m too far gone
afam?
I don’t want to waste a 6 month reapplication period
thanks for the wisdom but let me cook
how is this even true
better projects, more classes( algo n data science), more cold emails, more practice, more awards (icpc)
how is more time not valuable here
more zetamac
you an opp? 😈
i’m against Felix Huang with 7 quant trading internships @ Jane Street and Cit
the “just apply” mentality is lazy to me
No you won’t
haha
oh I thought you were gonna give a real example
But you do work at a quant
ICPC is in october 😭
been leet coding without sleep
and practicing w the squad
grrr
Are you good like that
@ember lava made Rutgers an ivy 🙏🏽
i’m actually a fraud and it makes me feel like one day i’m gonna look back and be like damn, I never got to make a genuine impact with my career, but FUCK THAT, i care about money rn only
contrapositive applies to implications, there isnt one here.
if they instead made the claim that going to an ivy means not working as a quant
independent of the soundness of that claim, you could take a contrapositive to equivalently say if you are working as a quant, you dont go to an ivy
i think its one per position type/role per year
Does optiver oa Kick you out if u fail/if u complete every section should u expect HR phone?
Optiver screens after OA
Just the resume or do they look at ur oa results?
Why would they ignore the OA results, what would be the point of the OA if you’re not going to look at the results 💀
yeaaa lol
Anyone know anything who portfolio manager?
to stagger reading applicant resumes and cut people who dont respond in time (the trick is to tell candidate's there is no ddl but once hc fills for scheduling phones then you auto-reject anyone who finishes the IA)
This is what I thought it was^^, since in the past it seemed like the portal would kick you out if you failed any individual section but again not certain
💀 💀 💀
omg no way, that's actually my name not even bull shitting
Two letters away from cluster*uck
for something like deshaw (swe intern) would a referral help that much if you don’t actually know the referrer (so probably not the strongest one).
Didn’t help me
damn fr
what is avg references
Getting paid to not work for 2 years sounds like my ideal job
Yes for qr
They want to ruin ur career
And make it so that ur -ev for anyone else to pickup
Since you’ll need to be retrained (cit also siloes you enough to be useless if u leave) and no one will wait 2 years + re-training just for the chance ur good
Ideally a place like that is good later in ur career when u have kids but wlb is also trash
That’s why “cit is mid” for qr as said above
Due to the founders' feud?
is this for swe or prop trader?
Commodities too
i still dont undestand what quant is and what swes in this field do
Ik an intern working there as a trader
Not sure what he foes
How's sig
And philly
Is it in NYC
How'd u get invited
All off-site dinners were like this
Has anyone been asked to dinner by some recruiters from one of the top trading firms?
Is it common?
They say students, so there must be others
quant swe works ranges from simple frontend dashboards for trading software or market data to hardcore low latency trading system stuff to writing stuff for fpgas
it rly depends
I applied in December, it’s to learn more about them and the engineers as well as their tech
Official tier list:
omc, rentech
hrt js jump desco
citadel two sigma optiver imc drw
akuna belvedere valkyrie
ABD Cap tier Z
I got invited to a Citadel dinner in the past
They even pay for an Uber to the place
Sadly I couldn't go
how about p72

acc a day
okok yea same
ig akuna 201 helps lmao
and imc prosperity trading challenge
nice u finished the trading oa right?
i knw
Nice
i thought it was probability
You had it on your resume or something?
yea
There’s multiple OA?
Wow same with imc prosperity challenge?
Wow good for you
yoo im pretty sure it has to be thinking or probability questions
if it is the same as trading interview process
I feel like they give out a lot of oas
yea
Team up for HTN?
yea down
hopefully they open soon
lowkey i j wanted to go to grab merch and cut
i dont even think i can make my resume any better
Fs
The Merch and food man
yessir
Wait there’s an oa to do the course

How do they have manpower to interview
They gave exactly 1 afaik
For quant
Akuna people r cracked ime
Especially if it’s akuna as a freshman/sophomore
I kinda know someone who’s a swe there and he knows more cpp than anyone Ik
Akuna edu is good
Idk if options 201 is the same edu though as trading internship
worldquant is like the systematic business of millennium
like cubist / point72, tudor / xantium group, etc
It’s worse then u think
It’s only Yang Liu
ty but can we not dox pls lmao @rose holly
#rules
no one else wuld hire him

Anyone else not hear back from Optiver 😂 I think I gotta submit another app new email
i need wal bro
bro has been spamming this 😭
someone hand him the wal offer
😭
I think they only have winter intern
they keep holding recruitment events at my school but it’s useless bc they hire like 4 winter interns
Ya
It’s not that bad
Omc?
nvm I’m blind
He’s right tho
What’s a non rope outcome
you don’t exit from consulting to trading man 😂
huh where? most of my friends actually work for bcg and mckinsey and they work 80% and still work 50h/week
maybe this bcg gamma is different no clue how wlb is there
hmm i see, I’ve actually heard that consulting in switzerland is quite heavy workload wise. So makes sense that in your country its more chill
?
ok
might have went overboard with the reschedule email (Apologies) but leaning conservative
Just did Valkyrie OA I passed but I don't think the score is high enough
for which position
growth equity isnt trading tho f
Junior trader
At least u got the OA
Unless it was auto
Was it auto
What's auto ?
Like no résumé, scan
Nahh you had to give your resume
How do you know if it's auto tho ?
Like aren't all OA's auto tho at least in this day and age ?
like if u get it instantly
I got it like the day after I applied so I don't think it's auto
yea then u chilling
I've been taking this seriously don't get me wrong I prefer live interviews OA I will need to do more testing and grind more on Anki
anki for what?
Is there anyone here who didn't get Greylock tech fair decision yet?
I swear this server just be making up words nowadays
Yeah I’ll take one of those conduent solution certs of 1passsword architecture by desco cheers mate
Bro in high school I was still writing shitty python in IDLE
Prep
I just downloaded someone else's for leetcode/probability 😢
Again a bit overkill but I downloaded it and looked through some of the cards
I honestly hope to move to round 3 for Valkyrie
My score was not that great the time pressure really got to you
sounds like u got to round 2, cg!
Still I feel like the score was low on the OA well considering from what i've heard I may have a chance
Just saw someone freak out in another discord and post the optivar OA
dont be stingy, drop the OA
I didn't download the pic he posted
But if peoople are like freaking out and shuting down on OA's could be explaining the amount of low pass rates on these things
phi
is optiver auto
probs
CSCH discord is where it got posted
Failed the valkyrie OA 😩
No junior trader
We need 2 quant and traders chat, one for intern where you have the noobs asking about wlb and exit opps
and one for ft where you have people asking how to break into quant and exit opps
same thing
more like one for
intern to ft ng quant (swe)and another forft big-tech swe transition into quant swe
the latter for me
anyone trying to join a social abitriage hedge fund. DM me if you are interested
Yes
Is this OMC new grad or intern?
i didnt get the old mission OA
ng
maybe a light resume screen but everyone ik got it
manual or automated?
I mean tbf I applied as an experienced candidate, i have 1yoe
but if its automated, idk how they would check that
