all ik is im not impressed by chicago food
i thought jeong was good
isn't arrowstreet supposed to be really good?
oo the menu looks good
Hm
have u been to bavettes yet
Ik they recruit from NEU
Ah
Oh flow is here @forest cobalt
But yea all mid-tier firms
@forest cobalt can I Dm 🙂
we have a res sometime this month forget when
Nah i think that’s real
are LC hards that arent dp as solvable as dp hards
the non DP ones seem so arbitrary sometimes, can i learn them
a lot seem like "you gotta have seen this before or u die "
have felt or had felt
please tell me the feeling goes away
do u agree with me tho that the dp and grpah questions are usually not arbitrary
lol whats an adjacency list i just construct nodes for the graph and then traverse it
which ones adjacency list again? is it
node_i, [all the nodes node_i points to]
google is super confusing
cuz google imagies makes it look like 0 points to 1 which points to 2 which points to 3
but i think its just saying 0 points to all 3
i think its cuz the actual implementation is often a linked list
but its so visually shit
is point72 good company
hrt
Not T1 hedge fund level, but I think it’s a good asset management firm
New?
investment & trading intern
i dont remember seeing it before, i might be wrong
I think that’s just what they call it
anyone here convert a full time offer into an internship? what's the best way to approach that?
dude got the rentech offer
lmao yeah
yeah that's what I was thinking
tenrech
wolverine trading
wanted to do quant before I graduate
it's that or riot games for the summer then off to google or bloomberg
what's TC there?
better than wolverine
is this for swe or quant
SWE
idk then actually
i might be coping but im fairly sure belvs ng offer will be at least 200k this year
intern next summer
get the offer so i can know what ng TC is
😂
LOL kk
isnt 180-200 reasonable to get from tech as well
my assumption has been that swe at finance place is more effort than tech
hey guys need some advice: i got offers from akuna and amazon, both for SDE overall pay is similar and not a deciding factor. what do you guys think would be better for future career prospects? I'm not sure if i wanna work in tech or at quants in the future, 😄 for akuna, 😂 for amazon
Pick akuna harder to get in and if you wanna do quant imo it’s better
most faang pay that right?
uhh depends i think
google likes to lowball and amazon likes to hire people who lack the reading comprehension to give levels accurate information
so not always, but if ur good enough to get finance then u probably good enough to get that much at faang
goog ng doesn’t lowball and readily negotiates with higher offers
apple is weird bc new grad pay is hourly
then faang doesnt exist
google facebook amazon and to a lesser extent netflix all hire people sometimes
just not this year
i literally never hear ppl talk about their apple process or offer
Does anyone know how long HRT usually takes to respond after a phone interview?
Anyone know what citadel leadership round is like
what is leadership round?
is that part of the onsite?
it's the round after the onsite
there's a round after onsite?
what's the point of onsite then bruh
eh I'll prolly bomb this onsite anyways
leadership is basically a manager interview you'd see at other companies
Banana man were you rejected after final
Fr
They don’t want us to take over
We’re too powerful
if u tell ur interviewer ur an 86 and one piece fan you might get bonus points
how does one prepare for this quantshops
apply -> oa -> phone screen -> onsite -> offer
don't fail any of these steps and you'll be fine
endorse ^
LEHIRU
I never got phone screen even after doing oa greatly
I’ll try that, my interviewer seems like he might be a weeb
HAHAHA
Can I break into this industry with cs degree?
yes
pretty much everyone has a cs degree or maybe a math degree
at the very least some sort of quantitative field like physics
no he got roblox
What’s a good resource if I want to get into learning about this and doing predictive stock trading?
http://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets helped me get started

Damn its been over 3 days and HRT still ghosting 😂
i dont see it
i still see the 150/hr and 140/hr stuff that probably includse bonuses
isnt that optiver fake tho
i thought optiver was like 112 pre bonus
could be phd intern
Banh xeo is a superior food
Citadel securities interview was a fat L
Yeah i really like indian food, prob my fav after mexican
Sadly haven’t found any but if you find one pls share 🥹🥹🥹
anyone had interviews at jump for swe/technologist?
are places still hiring for swe for trading?
Citadel, Akuna Capital, and Optiver cause I'm in the process with all three of them
have you taken analysis/algebra yet.
Is citadel OA always the same?
do you think you would like the math classes that you'd have to take?
outside of probability theory and combinatorics, I personally do not feel the math classes I've taken have directly prepared me for qt interviews
oops too late
be human
ty
ask them
reasonable take
like how
email recruiter
when I get the offer?
or like how do I communicate it to them without sounding like ass
like i want to go but in the fall
why would you sound like an ass
when you get offer, ask if fall is available
worst case they say no and you only have summer offer
ok sounds good
but like I already signed another summer offer
do I just be like I'd love to work there but I've signed is fall ok?
or just ask fall directly?
Which offers you have?
another equivalent to Citadel
i've signed bro
yes I know
But intern pay might go to optiver?
what role?
Is this swe?
both swe
false
less money more weeks
i heard its 53k 11 weeks
but like how do I go about
convincing for fall
but like I'm trying to find the best way
to ask for fall
cause my CMu friend said
they were like fuck you
LOl
but like I want to not get "fuck you'd"
so I'm trying to find a way to ask politely
that might increase my chances
citadel asked me a pretty tough q too. i heard they're asking swes math this year
there’s no standardized question set, anyone can ask whatever they want
for technical final?
I kinda had a math question
idk my friend just said he got asked a pure math and statistics question for swe
yea citadel is random
I guess so
just need to pray for good rng
i got asked system design and some of my friends didn't
yeh its rng
did you get citadel/
no i got rejected lol
leadreship or technical final?
I interviewed for quant research and got asked math and bombed it
after technical final
Should have done swe
ah rip
refer me next year 😊
wait does citadel blacklist if you get rejected after final

hiru are you nyc or chicago
both
then nyc
darn
Is it true citadel pays 600k to new grads?
possibly
since when did hrt do fall?? i thought they only had summer
For a while now
At least loo coop kids have done fall
What about Canada
Does it matter when you solve one question(pass all test cases) and got really close to another but could pass the test cases?
This happened with me with SIG OA.
was your submitted code able to pass some of the test cases
either way I don't think sig really scrutinizes the code, feels like they just look at results considering how liberal they are with sending out the OA
🤧
Messed up one line of code and realized after I submitted
Citadel interviwers ask whatever the fuck they're feeling like asking in the moment lmao
ng is interview performance dependent if ur not returning. Know someone who got offered 450k, top performing returning intern with competing offer is 500-600k
p sure I've seen a fall offer before
they do winter which is much smaller so no reason to not have fall as well to accommodate certain school schedules
there was a fall program pre covid
waterloo lol
there's a winter algodev program for women too
there we go
those are the only off season programs I know of
they say 11 weeks, but its closer to 12 lol
its not 11 weeks clean
they had a winter class for 2022 too afaik
took me an hour and a half but solved distinct subsequences on my own 🎉
Can u solve ur skill issue in smash
nah a friend of mine got the standard 200/100/100 package for ng SWE, 600k is either nego'd or return intern or phd or fake xd
bruh one of the offers on there is fake -- it's lower than what i got, so i submitted my real offer letter awhile back and theyve still yet to verify it meanwhile they are verifying the optiver offer which is straight up not real...
i guess, but then they should do that for everyone
imo it's fair to do that, just make it clear youre doing that
also is the SIG signon real?
the signing bonus is now almost 30k
yes, step 1 is to get a job offer, step 2 get a gf, step 3 buy a phob
step 4-11 is left as an exercise to the reader
no but reading its possible made me realize how to
i just dont know how to hash tuples efficiently in c++
how do u do that
oh i guess thats not the worst
just gotta commit it to memory
just so i make sure im correct, the linear space soln is ||save the subproblems as hash of coordinates, it is linear because your subproblems staircase upwards||
if the soln is top down and 2d, then my subproblems staircased upwards till they hit base
OH
no i dont think i would be top down
idk how that could work, since if you do bottom up you end up with absurdly high numbers in the middle
since 300 As and 300 As for s and t will be 1 as the soln, but will be ||300 choose 150|| in the middle which is unwritable
my original bottom up soln only did 60/65 cases cuz it overflowed super hard
i know people at hella quant firms, feel free to DM me if you wanna get connecte
d
i would like to get connected so that i can get past resume screen next year
i will do the joma tech overprepare for interviews meme except for real this time and for the green book
in english, spanish, and lambda calculus

@opaque abyss
dyk if the JPMC offer is wrong on levels, too? no shot they are paying their SWEs 13k a month

does anyone know if Optiver ng quant trader tech phone asks about option pricing and market making? thanks
They don’t
i was looking on glassdoor
made we sweat
how do i prepare for mm stuff lol
gotcha thanks
This is incorrect
posting isn't public, just exclusive to private posting to certain unis
if you go to T5 recommend just checking handshake, C++ technologist intern is probably there
Ok ill check
Is it new this year?
They shared profiles of people who signed for C++ quant technologists and their prior internships
None of them were Radix interns — which means if it’s not new then they have a 0% conversion rate 💀
Was it in Amsterdam only?
There are only 2 Amsterdam new hires
And neither of them interned at Radix
So i kinda doubt but ill check handshake later
On phone rn
no clue if its new this year, but there's for sure c++ technologist intern positions in the US
chicago
that being said, now that I think about it I've never heard of radix having dev internships before so it is probably new this year
this is what the handshake post looks like
have final scheduled
L school moment
bro 😂😂😂😂
I mean it’s true for 99%
Ayo wat
any HRT python swe folks do phone and know the format? 👀
anyone know when HRT responds after phone
Lol 2 pieces were from sell visit, rest from campus events
i have the same + hoodie and citsec vest
my favorite is the gqs bottle, it's >>> than the thor bottle
oh i forgot -- citadel airpods!
when is the citadel sell visit?
has anyone heard of the firm GTS in NYC?
u maybe
i think citadel gpa screens me forever
its ok we get hrt
have u practiced today
that is how u get qunat job
ngmi
skip midterms for practicing
Does citadel hire fall trading interns from this point onwards or are they likely done?
That might be the case then, I’m not sure
thanks for your private key i just stole all your bitcoin
advice for sig first phone?
know expected value and conditional probability
any1 know if chicago trading company is recruiting new grad traders this yr
Wait what are you working in HK?😱
Ps: you have to visit https://www.holeefook.com.hk
Bold, sophisticated and forward looking. Ho Lee Fook has come of age, but still honours the heritage, the foundations laid. Cantonese and proud of it, the tone is an opulent night out, faint memories of wild nights out in Hong Kong, the smell in the room is just as familiar as Mom’s dumplings.
Cool thanks for the recommendation
hey
hi?
how does one genuinely prep for quantshops
what role
like for swe, it's not that different from faang but you may need to know more lower level stuff like OS and networks
and ig c++ if you're going after a c++ role
swe obv
that sounds pre fun actually
Yeah
anyone know how long it should take for akuna to get back to me after final
for trading summer internship
has there ever been any actual content made about radix related either on reddit or youtube?
is the only thing I could find
How do you go from software engineering to quant development? What do quantitative technologists do at a prop trading firm? I had the pleasure of meeting Lise Savard and I am so excited to share with all of you her journey from computer engineering to quantitative technology at a trading firm in Chicago. Enjoy!
👩🏻💻 Crack the Coding Interview a...
Suggestion needed(freshman)!!!
Should I do Data Structures with Java or C++
which one will be better if I'm planning to pursue quant dev in future?
tbh just enjoy ur freshman year
get laid freshman year cuz its the last chance ull get if ur going for quant
How does this help him land quant dev
Theres definetly people of both genders at quant firms tho?
any advice for akuna python phone?
so?
still gotta be a turbovirgin to pass the interviews
do c++ one of my biggest regrets is not learning c++ well enough
can you explain why freshman year is the last year to get laid if going into quant
its a joke
you don't have to start freshman year
enjoy college
Wdym by swamped, its just leetcode + os + maybe a bit of probability/stats
i assume u dont care about gender ratio if ur a cs major in the first place lmao
not everything is about the grind
But thats what everyone thinks so wouldnt it be better to give advice for the few people that are interested freshman year
some people have been coding since the womb man
😭 Then you have me who started freshmen fall
Its an unfair game
just do your best to put yourself ahead
Lol stop being a baby
Many people didnt start programming until college. You’re not that far behind.
what are you trying to get into? swe or quant?
probability isnt needed much of for swe
i'm chilling. I'm just saying that a large portion of quant people start vastly before
There are plenty of people in this server who have talked about preping leetcode with no experience in just a month
OS is just an extra set of knolwdge after that
He said quant dev and sometimes quant dev works with the math so i said maybe
Idk its a general term
of course. I'm just saying that you will always be competiting with ppl who are more experienced
i dont think its reasonable to get good at leetcode in a month
unless u have very strong background in cs or pure math
I think someone who starts freshman year fall and does a full 4 year program can defintly end up at places like headlands and radix if they really wanted to
nah I got an offer
if i achieved quant i might make my username that lol
or like (pls trust me i have a bit of proof of success)
sry dude but that mentality is kinda cringe
ok bro
that mentality got him quant
keep coping
cant knock it
nice that you got an offer tho
Why not? Theres alot of really great free resources lately
I think its gonna take a bit longer than a month lol
because you can learn data structures reasonably fast, but learning to differentiate between which one to use and being able to come up with non obvious algorithms in the moment is not something you can just grind in a few weeks
and if you havent taken ds or an algo class yet it is all the more challenging
Actualy thats specifically what im talking about takes people a month or less
Its just practice
exactly
if u have a rigorous ds class and algo class and you get As in both then probably easier to learn lc faster
you be acing every interview >.> Pog 0:
my goal is to ace every interview
i want to put 10% of the effort people in india do
which means solving every lc hard easily
If its a rigorous ds&algo class then it shoupd prepare you for common lc hards without having to touch leetcode
thats cap
no way any school's DS and algo
can become a Leetcode hard lmao
How is it considered rigorous then
Im sure waterloo does
what grade are you i disagree with so much of what u say
I said most common lc hards
i can solve a few lc harda from my algo class but thats because we literally went over that example
Not the random ones that expect you to know some obscure algo
Competitive Programming class
just join your school's ICPC team
EZ lc immpossible tier
you have to pay attention to learn things...
how much ur offer mr(s) blog post advertiser
You’d be surprised

One of the most cracked people I know doesn’t do lc, they’ve only ever done the school’s ds&a course
where your blog post
thats not a blog
my school's analysis of algorithms class definitely helped me a lot with hards
that is a version control website
no one knows how to get quant like literally
even people who get into quant don't know
I see that you are connected to christiana
actually goat
yeh haha
You goated
nice blog
thats not from the course though
0:
well their dsa knowledge does come from that course - they weren’t some secret usaco plat chad or anything
@rustic wind its veyr helpful but i dont see ur tc anywhere in the post
lots of quant offers 😮
what is your backround like?, jk im blind its in the blog
did you code python for HRT?
read the blog lmao
whats ur tc
we are all here for your
advertisment
LMAO
sheesh how did you get put into algo eng
I thought it was only algo dev and core
(also do u recommend sticking to "only" 10% lc hards? i feel like i should be doing harder than what u did)
is hrt where you signed 0:
like more hards less easies and mediums
maybe 20% hard 80% medium?
"The one point I want to highlight is that TC is not everything—especially not first-year TC"
hehe
500+
do you think your work experiences helped pass resume screens more or school name?
XD
they had shit work experience compared to crurent offer so probably gpa+cmu is why
startup->hft
"i'm here to tell everyone to touch grass, but I'm down to have 500k + XD"
"The one point I want to highlight is that TC is not everything—especially not first-year TC"
oh shit
lol
what about radix and aquatic?
do you mean you got the entire offer before they interviewed you, or did you tell hrt you were in final stages for some places? @rustic wind
i dont understand reply, do you mean you got an entire offer before they interview, or you got halfway through some processes before they interview
wow
i didn't know they allowed
did they speed up the process?
oh wow :0
quite interesting
Quant firms are simps for competing offers
did you recruit this hard last year?
just anyone to major in CS
quant firms are simps period
do they check competing offers?
very very interesting
You can get resume rejected from Cit, show them a competing offer and they’ll interview you lol
wait i should have
is that facts?
I had my hrt final and after I said I had competing got reject in 3 hours
are you allowed to say which firm had the highest offer
@regal carbon recruiter whos here
i have offers from hrt and drw
you got resume rejected?
no i was stupid on the OA it was actually easy
but still
sadge
@stark crow are u sure citadel will interview someone who is rejected if they have compete offers
yeah ill just try for offseason when they open
wait what? so if you got rejected and reapplied with competes they will interview?
Their major gpa was higher than gpa cutoff tho so there’s that
i have sus gpa
icic
whats the gpa cutoff
3.6
what they increased it?
sad
hopefully 6 credits of chinese carry my GPA because i did not care at all about my other courses
Cit too anal about gpa, I know a past JS intern who got resume rejected from Cit lmao
there are still other good quant firms though
aquatic and vatic for example don't even require a degree
Ken had an interview with a goog vp and the vp was talking about how gpa doesn’t matter and ken went “uhm actually”
gpa and school name matter so you can brag about gpa an dschool name
but you need both
Have you been able to off-season cit
I can if I want
competing offers from other top firms though prob
did Wegon get citadel officially?
Im not going to lol
How do I ask
No I literally did phone on Friday
Idk companies are known to bend over backwards for loo so my advice will prolly not help
i will literally come there and turn it into iceloo
don't make me
this thanksgiving break you know what is happening wagon
stole the beat from queen tho
does it also work for competing interview processes
if i tell citadel i have an interview loop with another top HFT would they be more likely to interview me
For citadel leadership how many engineering manager interviews do you have
It says variable could have more after
Doubt it
whats your gpa roughly?
chad
@forest cobalt are you doing swe at these places or quant stuff? Just curious
oh ok thats pretty cool - you're thinking that the swe experience at these firms will help you pivot into quant research?
Ah I see thats pretty cool, how long are you thinking its gonna take you to prep for the interviews then
Do you think going through the green book would be sufficient?
How do you stand out for these apps?
Trying to get ready for 24
I’m under represented in tech and will have a decent internship under my belt
Dead I might only have one of those ms oh well 😭😭
Did u do any competition math in high school?
Green Book
how many ways can you rank the top 5 schools if ties are allowed
solve this and u are good enough to get a job
we have decided to pursue candidates that more closely match our current business needs
it does
:)
its the same
does anyone know of any less known quant firms in the us, either super new or just never talked about? I have applied/reached out to at least 100, I tried getting in contact with a few headhunter/recruiting firms but they have not been able to offer many new options
give me a number
good luck lol.
i know the strategy and it still took me 10 minutes to solve
Get faang first
I'v interned at rivian/coinbase/facebook(meta) previously

wdym
faang first is prob better than shitty finance first
low/mid tier quant firm on resume would get alot more quant interviews than any faang
ive heard both working
personally i know someone who went msft to 2sigma and another who went sig to cit
did they go to a target school
neither
or have c++ or ML experience or research
from quant alone -> 23 OA's, 18 interviews and 2 final rounds
i havnt heard of anyone besides maybe citadel and hrt liking big tech internships on resume
thats kinda good wtf
well I did reach out to 117 quant firms tho
ye thats crazy
can u send me ur list pls
radix simp
so i can apply there next year
sure one sec il just send it here
pog!
although it did take like thousands of reddit posts and linkedin profiles and discord messages to find
yes
most hiring managers/recruiters i have talked to at quant firms either want to see c++ or ml experience or quant firme xperience,
I have no major cpp experience at my internships so the only way to offset that is go to a smaller quant firm since those are more likely to hire, its harder to get placed on just any team in a faang company
Thx!
thats tough
oh lol
someone else did that too
the semi brute force way to calculate is to find the answer for a specific number of equal signs
with 1 equal sign its 5!*(4choose1)/(2!)
for isntance
two equals is more complex cuz you have two cases (adjacent equal signs and separated)
adjacent means /6, separate means /4
cuz 3! vs 2!^2

also some of these firms just have a linkedin presence or no open roles so i did try to COLD EMAIL recruiters and such : used Apollo.io for finding email addresses, let me know if you need any email templates or suggestions for this, heres my template: #rant message
there might be one or 2 that might be out of the us like xtx markets but they do have us offices but are less likely to hire
I tried to make this list purely focus on buy side quantitative based hedgefunds/prop shops only because thats usually what fits the general description most cs majors think quant firm is eg cit/js etc and all based in the us, no wintermute or kronos research for example
My response rate is : 23 OA's 17 Interviews, 3 Final Rounds all at quant firms (as of dec 2022 (list is up to date to now tho))
If any of you know any US based firms that are not on that list PLEASE LET ME KNOW
ye i tried doing that, pain in the ass tho lol
based
yeah
so basically mostly no asset managers, no banks etc, and mostly nyc and chicago based but thers a few random ones
you cant write code to solve problems like that on the fly lol
would be much easier if so
yes but they gonna be way easier probs than that
or not much easier but def easier
that problem is crazy hard
^
depends on the firm but seems like there are some blurred lines between the two at some places
quant dev yea
depends on company
buant binance
zamn could we pin that list
tag a mod
@stark crow :3
please pin 🥰 (Sorry for the Ping i didnt know who I should ping)
Def don’t ping all the mods at once
Suggestion: Best resource to get started with CPP (for quant)
Sorry 😅😅😅 removed the ping
do math comps, school name and rank, GPA still matter when you have >1yr industry experience?
has anybody heard of citadel doing an extra technical round after onsite for new grad?
pretty sure thats standard
two rounds of onsites
for new grad
I have the choice to work on a team closer to trading/research (swe modelling team) which sounds interesting/could let me transition into trading/research roles if I wanted to, but I'm not sure if I'd be good at, or a role related to my research (fpga compilers at a quant firm) that I think I could have a sizeable impact on, but is something I've been adjacent to for a long time already. Do I just flip a coin lmao?
The question is:
- interesting new topic with Transition Option
- something familiar with impact but nothing “Special new” to you
I would Go with 2) because it’s something with Big impact and it will allow me to bring my Knowledge in
anyone know new grad salary for SWE at SIG for this year?
🥜
But it gets better. Like not comparable with US but Still better.
You or @rose holly need to compile your lists into one
It’s a simple python 2 liner
Both of yours are pinned rn
i am not ok
dm
I made that list like 4mo ago lol
What was this list supposed to be?
That’s how people are man they just take credit
Somebody stole my kirb 350 and called it the colin davis 69
Fiends
smh
Mine is mainly quant prop trading firms and hedge funds
Idk what the other one is supposed to be
lol what
market makers aren’t buy side
it’s just a copy paste of all the firms I put into that old quant server
with some weird capitalization
i would never
Akuna and IMC
Yeah I’m just saying they get shafted lol
thye consider 2 sigma competitor?
@chaewon wlb stays winning
maybe citadel has its feet in both circles
2s better for the wlb, js hrt jump better for the pay

they both pay a lot
And will continue to pay a lot if u perform well
there's no meaning in comparing ng comp across those few firms
more interesting to compare culture, trading styles, talent, etc
it's just that there's many instances of ppl saying inaccurate info across these channels and other ppl taking it as truth and spreading it
many instances of bad games of telephone that end up burning ppl in some way
so just be aware
how mcuh would cit have to pay u in ordre to take them over hrt? (if u dont wnat to give specific num then maybe a percentage of current offer?)
example of inaccurate info that can burn someone ^
wtf no
for return interns for core its 490
Oh oops
LOL
haha
ya it's always fine to discuss (that's what this forum is for) but ppl need a healthier sense of skepticism
i thought cit and cit sec pay same?
citsex has better wlb i thonk
on average
but like some teams are good
but like good teams mean less turnover
which means less chance you get on a good team
how did MT go
F
😂
my school has 4 digit course nums
wait why does ur midterms even matter
embrace senioritis
get that 3.89 final gpa
my impression of cit teams is that you generally have a pretty fair tradeoff between wlb and upside
So can prob extrapolate based on that relationship
that could be true but also at what point is that extra money not worth your time
A decent amount of smaller firms actually dont have a hard degree requirement
if the number of employees is smaller than blog post's offer then she shouldnt care about it
future net worth maybe
depends on your retirement targets 🙃
it's pretty variable, I haven't seen a trend
generally startups/other trading firms/hedge funds ig
or higher roles at bigger tech companies
whaaaaaaaaaaaaat
I need to start prepping for these roles then 😭 @broken thorn
is it easy to transition from swe to quant in these quant shops
its too late you missed the freshman year putnam
NOOOOOO
and the 8th grade summer coding bootcamp
might as well switch to front end and give up
5th grade USACO plat
thats average
if my son or daughter cant get usaco plat by 5th grade they are no longer my son or daughter
Yes but some people dont like to dream big
i would've failed them if they didn't 😢
But swe and a quant dev are sometimes interchangable and Quant dev is considered quant
i start charging them rent
I see bc at that position you would already have been paid well right
if they default then they become my indentured servant
till they pay it off
they can pay it off by learning real analysis
5th grade pfft. we are talking about while in the womb
if the first words out the mouth aren't cout its over
trading and swe are just vastly different some people enjoy swe more at a shop
you play mozart while your kid is in the womb because a study said it makes him smarter
i play euclid's the elements audiobook so he learns the definition of rigor
we are not the same
Well maybe but
There is generally overlap betwen swe and quant dev
And some between Quant dev and quant trader
And some between between quant trader and quant researrcher
Take that how you will
But swe != qr
Ah okay cool Im trying to do Algo anything at HRT and Trader/Researcher at Jane Street - these are long term goals tho ofc
should i interview for citsec ops even or stick to leetcoding for swe
ah I see what's the main difference between trader and researcher at Jane Street
ah ok nice
i want to be c++ gigachad but i also want to be a qt
perhaps i could be r/overemployed at a firm
work both jobs
Also what year were you guys when you first got your first swe/qt/qr internship at a quant shop
4AM till noon i am trader. noon-1PM i do drugs to keep myself awake. 1PM till 10PM I am a programmer
Idk specifically at jane street since they have alot of teams and also they have both discretionary traders and quant traders
ah okay thanks!
Sophmore with Cit internship??????????
nice
what did you even do to prepare for that
Wow wow wow thats crazy
really? how much harder would you say it is than a say Amazon?
bc there are so many rounds for these interviews no?
Did you get system design?
@forest cobalt how hard was ur hrt 2nd phone compared to neetcode150? Was it system design or algo heavy or adhoc?
This is true, I feel like past experience definitely helps if you don't go to a "target school" - it should be enough to compensate, after all the school you go to has no inherent indication of your ability to perform well during the interview (it can just help you get one)
what school?
Did u apply to swe intern? I thought algo dev intern does not ask that.
i think quant shops are some of the places that place the highest impact on school
of course other things matter but school tier actually matters
Spoiling 💀
Oh I was just asking about how algo heavy it's compared to neetcode. Like do you need fancy data structures to solve the problem for example. Just to make sure I will prepare as much as I can
Of course, I didn't say that schools don't matter, I just said that past experience should contribute to one's ability to get an interview in these places as well
especially for these firms (meaning that I am well aware they place emphasis on school rank for recruitment)
so my friend at CMU
hasn't gotten a single resume rejection this year from quant He has been doing AI research at CMU
no internships
just research
not that research is bad
Would you say it doesn't? - It definitely does help
Yeah this is true - We wont ever know the true answer to this question anyways
what was this for?
HRT OA is codesignal
Also does HRT/JS/Jump/Citadel blacklist if you fail OA/Phone?
Seems p random
My friend got interview with target + amazon
Didn't you get like 30+ offers
Friend from same school didn’t get it with Amazon + asana + Shopify
i got resume reject from JS SWE never forgiving them until i reapply next year
i hate you wegon
yeah UIUC gets clout for being in chicago
Ivy and Waterloo
haha
T10 CS maybe?
honestly its not even ivy
its like MIT standford CMU
UK’s prolly like ICL, Cambridge etc no?
plus loo
UCL 😦 literally 1 under ICL
it's really not though
heard peeps got phone from JS though
it really is
I think so; time to do masters LMAO
I go to cornell. I get resume reject from like half to 3/4 of quant
my friend at CMU
0 resume rejects
LOL
that's funny i go to cornell too
wut
wonder if meta + amazon in resume helps doe
my friend got 2 QR offers
do quants look down on faang experience
wait @hallow shoal do you have any previous internships
zon
junior
Lol
java and react
No
😢
Most people do faang -> quant lol
oh lmao I graduate next year but I think Imma apply to quants next year instead of getting a job this year
But also ^
realized how vulnerable FAANG is in economic turmoil
Meta layoffs :((
yup was looking forward to return offer
literally everyone in London didn't get a return offer
Five rings laughs in MIT
0 hc
nobody got return offer to FB
yeah this is where school starts to matter a lot
only peeps who started like really really really early did
there was a blind post about how one meta intern's gf broke up with him and met another intern who got return offer
Five Rings is like 60% of MIT
true
Frying pan
got offer
but like who knows if they rescind given layoffs
Now where will all the CMU and Loo grads go
like if you actually talk to 5r interns or anyone who goes through the the process its stupid, the intern project from what i understand is just maintaining the same old mock trading bot
lets goooo
hey if you get paid for it
:))
the QR phone was just a recruiter reading off a list of questions and seeing if you get them right
I wonder if you can trick recruiters into thinking you're target school by abbreviating Minnesota Institute of Technology to MIT
(not a real school doe lmao)
Wym
Oh asana was low-level networking stuff in rust
how do yall prepare for quant interviews doe
Amazon project was on RDS that was a feature requested by DoorDash and Robinhood
I only have like 300 LC but know I gotta study OS and low level stuff
Shopify idr
(SWE)
read OSTEP
for fun
:))
only 💀
was OSTEP the dinosaur book
oh jk its not
honestly damn this chat is cringe with the subtle flexing you all need to chill out
but peeps who have quant SWE offer; what was your LC count and did you have competitive programming experience?
I'm genuinely curious cuz I took DRW OA the other day and got insta reject
I had maybe 98 confirmed solved leetcodes, but i spent more time reading solutions
no competitive programming
ok honestly DRW and IMC oa's
were so cancer
DRW was some weird number theory shit
LC count about like 400. Never did CP. First started Programming freshman fall
I died on the DRW probability for SWE
I was like yep I'm fucked
It was so funny cuz I had 3 Qs:
- Number Theory which wanted O(log n) and not O(n)
- Easy DFS
- Weird Union Find
I thought I was safe solving Q1 but realized my code timed out with custom test cases
DRW is a cool place
and then I just blanked out with Q3
their OA scarred me for life tho
yeah i guess Citadel's OA is much easier in comparison
in retrospect
maybe not much easier
citadel OA was not fun either
LOL
that was so math heavy lol
