Hey y'all, wondered if there was any advice about finding more design community in the bay area? I've found CCA to be pretty opaque. Creative Mornings seem interesting, I just signed up. There used to be Type Thursday, but that is no longer. The museum of Craft and Design seems cool; imma try to make it there. I'm not particularly interested in UXUI (unless it's for XR or games). I'm interested in pretty much all forms of design, but love me some wacky ID or GD. Do people have any advice about design community building in the bay area? Would love to hear your thoughts? I do a lot of ARVR design and my stuff is here: http://delta.center/ . Really into small group gatherings and nerdy design events.

I wrote them but no answer

#

CCA looks like it has cool events/talks, etc., but ya know is current student oriented.

#

while it was going on

#

Wrote AIGA just now and asked them the questions above.

#

ALso @pallid spoke and @hard orchid would love to see yr portfolio sites btw if you're down to share.

Nice finds!! Thanks for the updates! Pretty cool that several of them have mentorship programs too.

My portfolio is www.ayanango.com. Pretty barebones as I'm finishing up my bootcamp right now 🙂

@shadow gazelle take a look!

Do y'all know QDC? https://queerdesign.club/
I actually organizd an Oakland meetup that is happening tonight; it's just the first one and is very low key.

#

But it seems like people are hungry for this sort of thing, so if it goes well, I'll organize another that will probably have larger attendance.

No I don't know if this, do they hold remote or in person meetings?

seems like a good group of folks

#

Also yr work and approach to your work is dope.

#

Was cruising around your portfolio yesterday.

Also the museum of craft got back to me with the most unhelpful advice, lol.

#

AIGA national did get back to me tho with some thoughts and I need to write them back.

#

Also QDC has a slack.

#

Forgot if I mentioned that.

OK

@hard orchid @pallid spoke @shadow gazelle question:

#

I think that I want to start a design critique group for the bay area

#

My ideal will be that it will be multi-disciplinary, very low key, and that it will not be for people's work projects, unless people are feeling that the work project is very closely aligned with their interests and/or very unusual

#

I'm thinking about tapping several different groups looking for participants

#

AIGA, AIA <-- architecture's aiga, Queer Design Club, etc., looking for local people, but want to host it in a discord

#

I wonder if (a.) anyone is interested and/or (b.) anybody has any advice for me re: this

#

I've run fine art critiques for 3+ years, but design is a little different

OK, I believe I have about four people interested, a VR graphic designer, an interior designer, myself, a really dope graphic designer, and lol wired magazine's art director, turns out she's local; final call if you're curious.

Bc I'll probably be arranging a meeting soon.
