Useful tip for kerning. Squint and turn it upside down. That way you stop reading the word and see better the light and dark values of the shapes.

not quite finished but i think the empty spaces between the letters are already much better

what else would you optimise when you look at the letters like this? always nice to hear a second opinion
I feel like the balance would be much better if you made the empty space between the letters "m" and "i" a little bigger - that is because the space in between the other characters seems greater to the eyes due to the diagonal and round lines, whereas blank space between "M" and "I" is formed by 2 parallels/straight lines

very very well recognised. absolutely understand the point. ‘m’ and ‘i’ are the only letters where straight lines meet. i'll make the adjustment and see how it works.
