  • You have an inconsistent combination of straight lines and wobbly lines. I would push one style or the other to build some consistency.
  • You could use the T as the crossbar of the A, instead of flattening out the top of the A.
  • The end of the first T is very round, not matching any of the rest of the shapes. You could still have a blunted stroke-end shape, but maybe make it more angular, and leading from the gestural stroke. Could also make it an arrow to match the I below. This would also break up the space a bit more, adding more dynamic direction to it, rather than conforming so much to the typical cap- and x-heights.
  • You could pull off a similar idea with the lower T and the lower H crossbar.
  • Your I has more presence horizontal presence in its crossbars than the T does, might want to give the T a bit more space.
  • You could generally push the various letter forms to be more extreme, rather than so contained within a skewed parallelogram.

A horizontal line in a letter shape that crosses a vertical (or diagonal) one.

#

T, H, A all have crossbars, for example

queen cove
#

oh

#

so like make the capital t to a normal t?

shell shell
#

No, these are all caps. You don't have to break that.

queen cove
#

alright

#

could you maybe draw an example? i don't quite understand

#

oh, thats what you meant by not breaking it

shell shell
#

More like this

queen cove
#

ohh thats cool

#

ill try something like that

#

idk what i did wrong, can i share an .ai file of it , ebcause i kinda need help with the a

#

its also alright if you dont have time

shell shell
#

Try to make the A a triangle, rather than a house shape

queen cove
#

alright

shell shell
#

Also keep in mind your stroke widths. Try to keep it relatively similar, rather than having whole letters that are different weights

queen cove
#

alright

#

Better?

#

changed the width of the A

#

do you have time help me if i send the .ai file?

#

if not then i fully understand

#

here it is if so

shell shell
#

I'm doing this while in a meeting, so I'm in and out.

queen cove
#

oh alright

#

no problem

shell shell
#

I don't need to touch your ai file, I'll let you make the changes.

#

But I can keep drawing over

#

The latest A is better, for sure.

queen cove
#

alright

#

ty

shell shell
#

What is this for? What is the goal/prompt/customer?

queen cove
#

personal use

#

my band

shell shell
#

What genre of music?

queen cove
#

rock

I think you have to bring the tip of the A much higher.

#

Your lines are emulating a brush stroke, or marker, or whatever, right? It's a degraded line.

So why not first make your base letters out of very simple, thick lines, like I'm doing here, to make sure that part works. All the lines are in the right place.

#

That also gives you room to quickly move lines around, and play with different possibilities to see if they work, like the second leg of the A could become the leg of the lower T. Or maybe it can't, and that makes it less legible.

#

Once you have a solid base to work from, then you stylize the stroke, instead of trying to do it all at once.

queen cove
#

Alright :D. Iโ€™ll do that. How do i make like. Sharp corners on a stroke?

#

I could also use rectangles

shell shell
#

No no, use a stroke. Keep that consistent line width.

queen cove
#

Alright. Thanks. Iโ€™ll try that out and let you know

shell shell
#

Just opening up illustrator to grab a screenshot

queen cove
#

Alright

shell shell
#

Under the Stroke panel you have corner controls.

queen cove
#

Alright thanks

queen cove
#

so this is what i have now

#

changed the stroke

shell shell
#

Okay, so now you need to look at readability, if that's a concern. There are completely illegible metal band logos that are just meant to be puzzles, or read as a whole.

queen cove
#

alright

#

whoop

#

caps

shell shell
#

Ah, nice catch on the C, was about to post this:

queen cove
#

oh right

shell shell
#

But putting that little bit at the top of the C definitely helps.

queen cove
#

idk what to do about that honestly

shell shell
#

I think you could use some spacing between the two words to separate them, give them more legibility

queen cove
#

yeah

#

just made the c more curvy

#

i am learning so much

#

i gotta go

#

ill catch ya tommorow

shell shell
#

Alrighty. Great progress!

queen cove
#

thanks!

#

Any tips on what I can improve on the logo?

#

Other than the c

#

You definetly also helped me making it more like: more precise

#

Really appreciate it

shell shell
#

Oh, you're back!

  • Something about that "I" still feels awkward, and takes up a lot of space. You could try pushing it a bit further from the lower T so that the T has more room to breathe and be recognizable as a T. Also not sold on the arrow on that I, but it's growing on me a bit.
  • If you're going to have the lower T continue on from the A, really make them the same line. They're at slightly different angles right now.
  • Maybe even more of a downturn on that C, to really distinguish it.
queen cove
#

isn't the top of the a to long?

shell shell
#

In the line I made, or in yours? It's fine in yours. I just drew a line from the top of yours, which comes to a point, but it I had not variable thickness. You can ignore where mine starts, the point is the shared line between the leg of the A and the T.

shell shell
#

Only if you don't like it ๐Ÿ˜ You're designing it, you get to decide!

#

For standard type, sure, it's way too big. But for a logo, you can do whatever you want

#

You may want to exaggerate some other shapes to match, though

queen cove
#

Alright thanks

queen cove
#

any other things you'd point out you'd improve?

#

i feel like its a little bit too straight? am i wrong?

shell shell
#

Too straight depends on what you're going for, but now you have a base to build off of. If you want to make it look like brush strokes or whatever kind of distress you add, you now have a guide to follow.

queen cove
#

Alright. Thanks
