  1. Way too much effort for a thumbnail - you can have a great thumbnail, whilst not spending several hours on it - usually "Thumbnail Designers" don't spend hours on one design, but instead hours on multiple designs and they compare different versions.
  2. This doesn't tell me anything about the video
  3. Wow.

  1. Not sure if it was on purpose, but green and purple aren't "natural colours", like common colours you see, therefore this thumbnail should be attention-grabbing! Awesome!

It is for live stream thumbnail, so didn't have any context, I could've mentioned that but yea. As for effort thing, I always like to go all in in one thumb, put quality work over variations, so I don't mind personally spending more time

That's not the point, I can't just give you a list of colours.

Go on YouTube, look at the thumbnails, get a general idea of what colours are commonly used. And then, for your own thumbnail, you "may" want to use a thumbnail which isn't commonly used to stand out.

You can take this further by only looking at thumbnails within your niche, like cooking videos, probably will have stuff related to cooking meats I guess? which are brown. Might have some sauces and curries, which are generally reddish, brown, orange colours.

So, a thumbnail with green/purple/pink/blue thumbnail obviously stand out. And... this applies outside of YouTube too, like for instance, most cars are Black, White, Gray, Red and Blue.

So, when you see a Yellow car or Pink car on the road, you'll pay special attention to them.

For their YouTube thumbnail, naturally the thumbnail is to grab attention, so you'd use colours and other techniques to do just that.

You don't have to, it's just one of the many things you can do. But sometimes it won't make sense to. If your video topic is about water. Then it makes to have a blue thumbnail. Even though other water-related content, will likely be blue. You can then use other techniques to try and stand out, maybe a cartoon style, or highly detailed, or big arrows, or a celebrity's face, etc.
