I think tensions can and do come up so taking time to really make that decision is important.

I ended up not pursuing it and it worked out for me. My FE Lead didn’t mind but I think that’s also because we have a solid relationship and they have enough management experience to understand the possible impact of a formal conversation of a transfer.

If you don’t have someone like that, I'd try to find someone who will give you an honest assessment of your skills externally before you bring it up internally.
