I think by getting rid of the diagonal devide in the bacground and letting the algeba equations take over the background it will feel more full
alternatively, maybe you're going for a percent sign inspiration, % for the background so maybe incorporating that will help? but i dont think algebra is huge on percents, however it would work better for a statistics book.
this suggestion might be too much, but on the left side you could put images of real life examples of where algebra is applid, for example if its used in rocket science put some rockets back there, maybe its used in engeeniireeng so put some sort of engeeneer and fade it to the same opacity as the equations on the bottom right.
this will probably be too overwhelming for the design tho and the first suggestion might work better

I've just designed a redesign, and i think this also feels a lot more full
but i like the suggestion for adding an image on the left side, i will try that now

If you try to put images, you can also put a blue hue overlay on the images so they blend in better
