#I feel like the balancing is actual dog water

If you have a clip, that would greatly help in determining whether or not your death was unfair. Otherwise all there really is to do is guess the second guy you fought won because of better armor in combination with unlucky pellet spread.
With that in mind, just saying "balancing needs work" isn't really helpful. How does it need to be changed in your opinion?
I think the second player you encountered survived for the same reasons Bobo suggested but without video it's hard to say for sure.
They recently rebalanced shotguns and for the most part they're in a pretty good place right now. They're generally very dangerous up close, as they should be, and also very dangerous against lightly armoured targets even at moderate ranges but you're relying on good pellet spread, i.e. RNG, so some shots that seem to be well aimed may not have the desired result.
Some weapons such as the Johnson rifle and the Mosin Obrez pistol do a lot of damage. If they were using the Johnson rifle then it only takes a single head hit to a level 10 helmet to one-tap you from full health. It never feels good to be on the receiving end of a one-tap but that doesn't necessarily mean the game isn't balanced, especially if head shots are intended to be very deadly - and they are in this game. There's a 3.25x modifier after helmet armour is deducted from the hit. This makes even the weakest weapons viable against players wearing top tier armour/helmets as long as you can land head shots.
Was the spawn camp on mine near air processing? Low-key.. I'm pretty sure all of these run ins happened with my friends and I. I'm pretty sure I was the one on air processor and at that point I felt bad that we kept running into you 😭 took me down to around 70 hp, I was in 9/12 I believe. Ggs man, hope the raids started to go better
how much does armor protect you??
It's a flat damage reduction
With weapons that shoot a single projectile it doesn't make a crazy difference but against shotguns that shoot multiple pellets, it's much more effective.
OHHHHHHH
