My first recommendation is to limit the maximum team size to three. Considering the game's mechanics and environment, three players per team is already quite high.
Secondly, I suggest matching teams with other teams, rather than with solo players. If there's no solo-only gameplay mode, at least pair solo players against duos, not larger teams.
