I'm thinking of using Velcro to attach some gear along the interior roof of my car using Velcro or something similar. Catch is the cloth lining. It has a decent bit of tooth to it and very short fabric grain but logic is telling me a simple adhesive backed Velcro strip will fall off in no time and I can't really sew it on either

Any suggestions for alternatives or better attaching methods? I was considering a sort of thermo set glue that could be ironed on with the Velcro strips as having a better bond but I'm not sure.

Maybe magnets if the roof is metal and close enough. Though anything attached non permanently has a high likely hood of turning into a projectile if there's an accident.

If whatever you're attaching to the velcro has much weight to it, the headliner will rip right off the insulation and off the roof. It's just the automotive equivalent of Super77 up there. Rare earth magnets might do the trick.

About the weight of a rasberry pi in a case

So I found some 4 inch wide velcro and thermo tape on Amazon. Should be enough to hold the item up easily. But. I had a great idea after in that it is clearly mounted to some sort of plastic liner in the back. I'm going to carefully drill some holes in each corner of the velcro patch and pop rivet it to the plastic backer for added support. Shouldn't have any chance of pulling away then

At that point you might as well just add rivet nuts and make it screw in instead of velcro

Hmmmm. Go oooon

But also I don't want to buy the tool for it and getting them to align might be a pain

You could cut away the headliner and scape away to metal and put your velcro or vhb on that.

that flat ridge between the two sun shades is where I am looking to toss it

If you get off the speaker?, drill a small hole were you wanna put it and then you might be able to get a screw with a washer sticking down from the top. This way you can mount whatever with a nut

Bury it in the dash somewhere? Velcro it under the center console maybe.

Got buttons on it I need access to. Can't really just hide it. It's a controller for emergency warning lights

@woven merlin Yep, don't use normal Velcro, use Hook & Loop it's more durable.

I'm sourcing a rivnut setter actually. The Velcro or whatever might still get used elsewhere
