It is time to unveil the cruelty of my next campaign that I'm DMing (not Kavinor)
The party is going to go investigate a town to find a friend of theirs. The entire country has been swallowed up by a Warlord who has captured an Eastern forest dragon and split it's neck apart so its screams project a field of mind-altering on a whole province. Every scream manifests like a song, everyone who hears it slowly loses a random ability point per day but I won't tell them, I'll just subtract from their rolls every day.
Those who drop to zero go unconscious and turn into wooden statues, they fade from people's memories. The problem is that there's a war going on outside so any missing person is swept under the rug of "oh the war got them."
Anytime a party member gets their perception of reality altered, they will see the nightmare - Streets full of wooden husks of people, immobile under a giant oak tree with an eye staring down at them. I will constantly bring up that there's an oak tree outside and if someone rolls high enough they will notice that it is the only oak tree in the whole province. In this state, players who see the nightmare now have to contend with weeping angel wooden statues, the projection of a person's last image of them before the veil is lifted.
Even the player characters themselves are slowly turning into wooden husks, the only way to progress the story is to permanently break the nightmare and then venture down to the base of the tree and stop the monster

I am reminded of how in college we were tasks with finding and then categorizing bugs and leaves. The point was to learn the scientfic names of a bunch of things. We were warned about Jerusalem crickets because, as someone two years ahead of me found out, when you pinned them to a card while they were knocked out with gas, they would often wake back up, pull themselves off the pin, and go around eating the other pinned bugs while they still had a hole through their middle.

but it also doesn't vanish if I cast another- so right now, I can technically have
4 guardians of faith active at the same time
yeah not running into a room full of enemies with guardian spirits puts a slight halt on my damage output
but I can still do funny things at range, especially now I have 5th level spells

I can tell you right now heroism won't be needed until lvl 10, you get Aura of Courage which makes you and your allies immune to being frightened within 10 feet
Also you CAN use them you just drop your concentration, and even if you don't use a bonus action smite, Volgos has two weapons now so he can swing and deal three divine smites if everything hits

I think BG3 will be the high point of larian. I think that because, for instance, I thought of killing and ress-ing laezel to well... spoilers. But that 'exploit got patched out. THAT. RIGHT THERE. The game designers thought removing player agency was bug fixing. But if it's something a silly D&D party would consider, its not something which should have been prima facie blocked. By using enough spellslots, this character could turn any fireball into a delayed action fireball. But it would have to be a spellslot based system. Can modify something up to this slot level this many times per long rest. The other fun thing with this character is they might be able to work as a spell range extender.

With my left hand I twin spell fireball, and with my right hand I use split spell to make that 4.
But more realistically, a spell splitter would probably take the same level of spell slot as the original spell, and a similar casting time, so you'd have to be hasted.
