Episode 104
One minor feedback vSphere vCenter does not run on Windows anymore, it is an linux based appliance now which has vCenter and Platform services controller baked in. Specifically I think it runs photonos
That said it still has some high resource requirements especially for larger clusters.
Proxmox is still better for home lab
or XPC-NG with XOA
Yea. Vcenter hasn’t ran on Windows VM in about 8 years. Think v6 was the last version that supported windows.
Every place I’ve been at has has 6.5, 6.7, or v7 and has used a Linux appliance.
Regarding perfectmediaserver.com, I know its a bit against principles of self hosting but is there a reason Alex isn't utilising a free hosting of the static site using GitHub pages or cloudflare pages?
For example, they switched to free cloudflare pages, https://christitus.com/im-sorry-netlify/
Having Fun with Technology
well not your computer not your right to do whatever you want with it, right
What is the url to the perfectmediaserver blog/case review rss feed? cant find it on the side
I just wanted to say that I've been using porkbun for years and I have no issues with them
their support is great the few times I've needed to reach out and their pricing policy is transparent, non-gimmicky, minimal upselling, and generally non-intrusive.
I cannot say the same for namecheap, namesilo, nor the new space...something one that namecheap owns
I hope porkbun doesn't go rogue but they haven't yet and they seem to have a business model of not being corrupted (so far)
but I knew namecheap from the dirty selling was going to go that direction early so I browsed hacker news to find an alternative several years ago
I am so glad that I finally took the time to look at the Discord. I swear at 1.5x playback, I was scared every time I heard pork bums.
i used spaceship the new namecheap thing and also use cloudflare and porkbun.com basically use just look at tld-list.com and see which one is the cheapest one and get my domain from there and also have way to many domains
Ahh yes the chat about vcsa and windows I just came to talk about that
Just listened to the Vcenter bit…. I really think someone’s info is out of date. I’ve ran VCSAs on 2GB of ram for 5 hosts, and dozens of VMs. In another org, I had a 4GB vcsa run 60 hosts (spread out throughout the US) and two hundred VMs.
