Personally I prefer Arthur and its a very good starter since it can hold its own (in my experience) against other titans, but eventually save for one of the 1000 play titans or get lucky with superchest

In my recent battles I have noticed that many players use Kid and those titans in a pair or trio are quite powerful so I would say to to invest make it fully upgraded then buy another Titan

Eh, I'd rather suggest he buy better modules for his titan and max them out, so he can operate as if he has a maxed kid, yet allow the modules to be moved over to a new titan when he inevitably gets one
