Winter is just around the corner, which means it's time to start thinking about holiday traditions, cooling weather, and cozy outfits. For this monthly challenge, create images, illustrations, or videos focused on winter—what does winter mean to you?

💡Some creative kick-starters:
• From enjoying treats and hearty meals to taking part in winter activities, show how different people celebrate traditions and winter holidays.
• Work with models to express the winter spirit—big sweaters, snowy landscapes, or hot chocolate. Don't forget to get model and property releases!
• Capture winter colors in seasonal scenes, for example winter sports or indoor activities.

@gray pumice there was a very bad weather event here, suprised no one remembers...(In texas) the electrical grid shut down as it wasn't winterized and so there was no power for over a week, 32 F temperatures, no cell service, no water. pipes burst. Interior of our house was 42 F during the day . Most people had no winter clothing and one or more of the political types fled to warmer climates leaving constituents pretty mad. Our pipes inside burst as well as those going to the pool so it was a massive cleanup akin to Hurricane Harvey.

What a lovely conceptual holiday image. And by conceptual, I mean that this image can have some many different meanings and applications based on whatever the image buyer would like to make use of it since it's so versatile. I really like the use of the crisp hard lighting which is very much on trend now with product photography. I also like how the can is all white so it feels very clean and modern, while the winter hat gives it a pop of color and makes it "Holiday" which makes it a perfect contender for this challenge.

Nice wintery image! It is good to see a family integrated on the landscape so that the viewer can have a deeper connection with the image. I like the contrast of the cold set up and the warm light coming across the trees, which makes me feel like that walk on the snowy forest is actually something pleasant and enjoyable (me, being a Mediterranean person, do not have much experience with walks on the snow 😊 ).

This is a great example of an image that is geo-specific towards the German market. I didn't know beforehand but these cookies are very popular during the holidays in Germany making it a great image that any German can instantly associate with that time of year. I really like the texture of the table and the nice pop of green the plant provides making it a great asset for an advertisement or promo piece for a food client.

Super simple and well-executed concept. The use of color takes us to a wintery/Christmasy setting, and the color contrast works perfectly to make the ornaments stand out. Also, the fact that the decorations are made of paper and not of plastic is really interesting since it can be helpful for customers and brands worried about environmentalism. Composition and framing made this image suitable for different usages since it can be cropped, extended or rotated by the client to fit their needs.

Another fantastic image by Milou. I like this different interpretation of a "winter" image as it's not as obvious as some of the other submissions here. The lighting makes the image feel almost like a painting and the art direction of the red dress and holly the subject is holding really makes the image pop and feel more festive. I can totally see this image being used for a publishing client like a book cover.

Nice image of a process! Usually, as photographers, we focus too much on the “hero shot” of the product we want to photograph (in this case, the cookies), but its whole story can be as attractive to show as that final image. In this case, we are in the middle of the process; we have a human element that helps tell the story, and that person is anonymous since we do not see her face. However, we have enough information about the model to make the image authentic. The elements are enough not to make the scene too crowded, and the simple background lights automatically take us to a Christmas setting.

What a beautiful image that definitely evokes "winter" in all it's glory! I love the shallow depth of field used to really make the drinks and props of this image pop. You can immediately tell it's a festive image with the blurred out Christmas tree in the back and how the drink is styled. I also really like how there is a lot of copy/negative space above the drinks to put copy or design. Some potential use cases for an asset like this could be a magazine cover or even a holiday greeting card depicting how cozy winter can be.
