The answer depends on what you're dropping, as the quantity you get back differs.
When dropping items in the Maw, if the item has a direct conversion (i.e Dropping Chemical G -> Haunted Chemical, Forcefields -> Dark Magic Barriers), you can drop 200 and get 200 quantity back.

However, when dropping items in the Maw that has no direct conversion (such as Ripper Wings), the more quantity of the item you drop, regardless of how many, you will only get back one item. Your drop however, would be better than the initial 1 qty drop. The prize will still be limited to its rarity range.

From what I've seen, nobody gave you an answer yet.

Harvester of Sorrows will be obtainable during Halloween, through either sacrificing Harvesters ( which will be quite low in price after Harvest Fest ) in the Maw, or from dropping DKOs in the Maw ( gacha ).

It should be at its lowest at around Day 5 of Halloween.

A great alternative while you wait for them to drop ( according to you, you want to mass ) would be to purchase harvesting services. You'd have to provide Fuel Packs though. As for whom you can contact for these services, #💰trade-services .

I should also mention that it is only recommended to harvest the trees with Fuel Packs equipped ( alongside Harvesters ) if the tree's seeds price is costlier than that of Fuel Pack's price.

I'd suggest going with Toxic Waste Barrel mass. You could even go a step further to make Science Stations; both of these masses are extremely great at this point in time with Science Stations being extremely costly.

Due to the mass steps' high rarity nature, you'd be faced with a lot of seed loss though, so eventually hiring a harvesting service would be beneficial. It is also possible without the DCS + Harvesters ( which means much more refarming on farmable components would be required ), but you would gain much more with them!

Its still a gacha all in all, but the fenrirs and pricey drops are there to mitigate losses or even boost profits.

If you aren't great at Wolf Worlds, step away from them and do something else. Flipping the new items would be great too ( get them cheap of course )

in my opinion there isn't really a best profit that doesnt require farming, you can do fast-forwarded massing like buying the seeds of a science station or any item that is in demand, but you still have to put in the effort to find cheap seeds

there is also be investing in an item and expecting it to rise in the future, but it's a risky move
