Basically, they make life much better for you, but isn't necessary. You can still ghost hunt without the mods.

I would strongly recommend Silk Scarf or any item which does not take up hand/back/face slot and provides Double Jump mod though. Double Jump is extremely helpful when Ghost Hunting

i think you've confused it with the harvesting phase; an unfarmable component has an average fruit drop rate of 2.5 fruits per tree, and a farmable component has an average fruit drop rate of 3.8 fruits per tree

Here's the full text for both of these two combined ^^

The farmability of a component is mainly dependent on the harvesting phase. A farmable component will drop more than 4 fruits max, compared to an unfarmable component where fruits are capped at 4 max per tree without any fruit drop boosters. It is also dependent as seeds are more likely to drop when harvesting a farmable component compared to an unfarmable component(this point is also somewhat dependent on Rarity of the said component).

As for the breaking phase, the estimated ratio of seeds dropped from breaking blocks is 1:4 and is fixed for all blocks and consumables which has a chance of dropping seeds
No matter block or consumables, it will return seeds (if it does drop any) from using the said item at an estimated ratio of 1 : 4

Farming of farmable components in mass projects is usually to reduce seed loss on future steps. It does not necessarily mean you should get lesser of the said seeds.

Lets imagine a scenario where I do a portcullis mass. To start off, I'll purchase the two farmable components, 500 Window Seeds and 500 Death Spikes seeds, then farm them up and aim for around 1000 portcullis trees. __I will assume the seed loss for Dungeon Doors to be 20%, and farm Windows up till I get 1,200 seeds, __then purchase Door seeds and splice them together. After that, I harvest and break the Dungeon Doors, then splice with the 1,000 Death Spike Seeds I've farmed up.

Take a look at the underlined portion. If I were to aim for an end amount of 1,000 trees, but I avoid the farming process, I wouldn't have enough materials when moving on to the next step due to the seed loss.

Say if I avoid farming the farmable components, I wouldn't be able to match my other 1,000 seeds I've prepared, and thus not being able to splice 1,000 trees which was my initial tree goal
