I'm not saying you're at fault for disliking it, that is entirely subjective and you're free to love and hate whatever feature you so desire. But saying "nobody asked for this why did they change it" is just incorrect.

People requested a custom UI. They add what was asked for and people complain. They don't add what was asked for and people complain. Can't really win.
