Chances are they were given a dirty link to an IP grabber site and didn't know better.

so basically the server got ddosed and then the ddoser got all the ips of the server players

drowsy lintel
#

in which way did the hacker access the server?

Wdym

That points to the server being hacked lol

If all players got their IP addresses leaked, that clearly points to the server being the weak point

bitter cargo
#

i thought about it being hacked but how would It

#

how can a minecraft server be hacked

#

backdoors?

#

I dont think they have any backdoors, theyre a big server that makes their own plugins

glass violet
#

Malicious plugins, poorly configured software, etc

#

There's a lot of options

dang

#

There's not a whole lot you can do solely with IPs anyways

bitter cargo
#

Well you can commit a crime with it

glass violet
#

Especially if the user has a dynamic IP address from their ISP

There's really only two things that can happen with an IP address

#

1: DDOS
2: Port scan, which could lead to an actual hack; but unless the player's network admin is port forwarding with a commonly known port for a commonly known exploitable program that's much less likely to do anything. This also looks like a DDOS, and your ISP is likely to notice and will deal with it

#

Chances are, however, that the person doing the DDOS is just a script kiddie using LOIC to DDOS the server then try to extort further with false threats, they do not have the IP addresses.

#

Just scare tactics

Oh

If you're worried about your IP being used at all, I do recommend looking at getting set up with a VPN.
