download and install Java (most likely u want JDK 21) from GraalVM, Oracle, OpenJDK, Adoptium, Azul, etc

download BuildTools from https://spigotmc.org/

run BuildTools to compile the game server version you want (i recommend 1.21.11, i believe 26.1 is still unstable)

create a new directory/folder wherever u wish to store ur server, then move the JAR file BuildTools creates to it

use a site like https://flags.sh/ to generate a startup commandfile to run ur server with

u can look at the wiki for tutorials on how to write commands and event listeners, and then u can build ur plugin (on the right side of IntelliJ, this is the Maven tab -> <project name> -> Lifecycle -> Package)

and then the jar that compiles in target/<projectname>-<version>.jar is ur plugin jar u can drop into a server

You can setup server either on local host for development and then buy prof host later on
1.get a spigot/paper server running first
then crate new server file on ur computer
throw the jar in there, and create a text file called "start.bat" orr run.bat and paste this in

it'll generate some files, open eula.txt and change eula=false to eula=true

The hard truth is it’s never going to be enough.
The server has to be popular before it releases.
Players require other players to stay, chat, and interact.

Other than that initial fact, you need a good bit of experience to learn what retains players.

When someone new joins you have about 30 seconds to hook them, expect that people are hopping server to server looking for something to surprise them.

Most players do not read, therefore the server must be designed for self explanatory engagement.

You could check out some successful servers for a visual of what a typical good setup would look like. The thing is, many players don’t play for the features they play for the community.

You’ll want to build up a community before launching the server, then you would have all of those players on there grouped up so they can chat with each other. From there you can build up a playerbase since new players will talk to existing players and staff to be welcomed.

Trial and error can be a factor. It took me a few years of experience to start learning why my efforts weren’t gaining players, yet other servers that sometimes suck will end up with a lot of players.

My first server I figured if I add all the gamemodes skyblock, factions, prison, mini games… that it would be attractive….
But that’s not true and that’s why it failed.

My survival server (evolved) I built based on keeping a community together and being able to participate easily.. that’s the win.

None of that. I just watch. I also get feedback from staff.

One situation was all of the players who left the server sooner than 30 seconds I check what commands they tried and where they logged out. 60% of them left at the crates. So I adjusted my crate prizes and moved the crates to the back of the spawn instead of in front. Replaced it with a Playershops interactive thing so now I notice a lot of that percentage now takes a visit to existing players shops… more than 30 seconds.

Also, a good bit of players leave when they see leaderboards like /baltop because it’s too hard to catch up. So I got rid of leaderboards at spawn and made the baltop monthly instead of having lifetime large balances

Build your server how you love it, but join it and think of yourself as a player, see how easy it is to participate.
Look at yourself when you join other servers, what do you try to do.

The moment you or your staff stop interacting with them and treating them as players just wanting fun. It goes downhill. However you can over come this if you are just wanting to look at it from profits perspective and just spend a lot on advertising and marketing but you also need something there too. So there is always an alternative usually with their pros and cons

Since most do not have capital to throw at problems you have to instead take the route of growing the community and are essentially at their mercy

One tiny thing to keep in mind though is you cannot make everyone happy, do not give in to every single suggestion, keep the server optimized.
But do show love!

Paid marketing is quite a competitive situation. Yet, the rules still follow to keep those players rather than a bunch of traffic that leave. I notice some servers have big numbers because they constantly spend thousands on ads, but what’s sad is those players just leave.

Yeah can't make everyone happy and that last bit is true too. Also if there is some other advice it is that never be afraid to punish or ban a player who pays. They may threaten to refund and it may be successful but its better to be firm in your rules and that they apply to everyone even if the may be a big spender.

As long as you have documentation to show the person broke your rules etc. paypal will be in your favor. The only times they really wont is when the chargeback is from the credit card issuer and paypal basically does not have a choice

Never used tebex, just I have used paypal for business long enough to know why I lost chargebacks that did not make sense and I have talked to paypal about it since you can call them and talk to them and essentially the ones you lose where you shouldnt is not because paypal sided with the customer rather the bank or credit issuer took the money back anyways. Banks when they send money have the power to do what is called a reversal and only another bank where it went can stop it but there is rules they have to follow in order to do so and most times such things are not worth their time due to small dollar amounts

Support Request: Permission Issues with ZNPCs & Multiverse-Core 1.21.11
Main Problem:
I am trying to set up a ZNPC that teleports players to their last location in the survival world when clicked. However, normal players (without OP) cannot use the NPC.

Error Messages:
Whenever a non-OP player clicks the NPC, they get these two errors in chat:

"You do not have access to that command." (Red text)

"I'm sorry, but you do not have permission to perform this command." (Pinkish text)

Plugins I am using:

Multiverse-Core (for world management)

ZNPCs / ZNPCsPlus (for the NPC)

LuckPerms (for permissions)

EssentialsX (likely causing the red "No access" message)

What I have tried so far:

I tried adding the command to the NPC as CONSOLE and OP.

I tried using the command: /mv tp {player} ll:world -u.

I tried adding permissions like multiverse.access.world in LuckPerms, but the system still blocks the teleport for normal players.

The teleport works perfectly fine when I have OP, but it fails completely for everyone else.

Goal:
I want every player, regardless of their rank, to be able to click the NPC and be teleported to their last location in the world named world, bypassing all "No Permission" blocks.

This might be a dumb question. I was able to get on my Spigot server through my mobile version (bedrock) like 2 weeks ago. Recently I haven't been able to join. So I rebooted my Spigot server, installed the latest Spigot, Geyser and Floodgate plugins and when I try it on mobile (bedrock version) again I get an error that says "Your client is having trouble establishing a connection to multiplayer services. Please check your internet connection." However, I am still able to join the Featured Creator Multiplayer servers. I have done all the port forwarding and firewall stuff, but this error has got me stumped. Any advice?
