Hello you beautiful people! I’m currently looking for a laptop for my step daughter, she’s just finishing up her GCSEs and probably time she had a computer of her own for sixth form and Uni. I’m thinking of a budget around £1000, she’s not a gamer although she does sometimes play Roblox but I’m sure anything can run that. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I don't think she is going to need too much in terms of spec in that case since Roblox is not a deal breaker, it seems.

#

Not many people here use laptops so I would recommend a mid range pre built from PCS would be a good choice.

#

Thinking about it some more, it will also depend on what she plans to study.

and a carry case for the rough and ready life of uni.

Bit of a switch up, I’ve spoken to her and she does seem to want to do some form of gaming on it, nothing heavy though. She will also be doing some movie creation stuff so I’ve gone ahead and made the following specs, could anyone let me know if this seems good?

I was looking at this one! But she doesn’t want a 16” 😫

the actual difference between 15 and 16 inch is pretty small

I know I know, she seems to want thin and sleek whilst being able to do some gaming on it and kind of content creation things in terms of her film making course

#

Along with law, I don’t get it

Ahahahahaha

Thin and sleek doesn't go together with gaming when talking about laptops

mighty basalt
#

That’s what iiiiiiii said

#

That Ionico seemed to fit the bill, I was happy until you guys fill me with doubt ahaha

pearl linden

pretty minimal increase in size, but lets the cooling system work better, and with the CPU being less overkill not generate as much heat

mighty basalt
#

Maybe dumb but will there be limitations on what she plans to use it for going for the laptop? I just though the better the CPU the better overall, the Ionico comes with the CPU so assumed it should be sweet and safe if it’s built that way

#

But I’m dumb and know nothing ahaha

pearl linden
#

the Ionico CPU has a faster CPU sure, but it runs much hotter with the extra and rather useless e-cores, so due to the heat practically it won't be much if any faster since the coolers gotta work that much harder

What content creation are we talking about btw?

pearl linden
#

both still have 8 performance cores, and the top boost speed is slower with the defiance, but the cooler has less to cool

#

here's the Ionico, the p and e cores base speed is still the same, it just in theory can reach higher speeds

#

plus, you can make, an admittedly weak, argument that with the bigger screen video editing easier and general eyestrain is lessened

mighty basalt
#

Well… That’s what I’ve created from that…

#

£700 over the original budget ahaha

stable kite
#

Have you made it run even hotter or am I mistaken? :D

pearl linden
#

you can save a couple quid if you went with

#

of have extra space for a few quid more with this

mighty basalt
#

Nevermind guys, I’m on FaceTime to her, she’s wearing a Man United kit, I ain’t buying her anything

yep others can see it now

pearl linden

I'd go with the standard BT/Wifi you won't see much benefit

mighty basalt
#

Yeah? Then what’s the point ahahaha

#

I love that you guys always save me money

pearl linden
#

the killer comes with some features/software of dubious usefulness

#

the Killer Prioritization Engine, it puts priority on games/discord when it think it needs it

mighty basalt
#

Ahh okay

#

Thank you mate

pearl linden
#

down the line maybe she can get a llano Cooling Pad for at home, it does really massive help cool, and reduces the actual volume of noise a little, but the perceived noise goes down a lot

#

they are kinda pricy, but they do help a lot

mighty basalt
#

Ahh okay, just searched it, I’ll add it to the wish list for later on, thanks for the tip
