To kick things off, my main focus is uncompromised performance at load, whilst reducing noise as much as possible.
Case: Fractal define 7 seems like the most recommended. I would've liked to pair it with something like a noctua u12a, since the focus of the case is enclosed for noise isolation; doesn't make much sense to open it for an AIO (But does it?, more cooling = less fan speed = less noise).
Is it worth replacing the stock fans?
If you recommend an AIO, should I also go for an airflow case, in which.. case should that be?

CPU seems pretty obvious best option.

Motherboard also. But let me know why not!

Is it worth waiting (and paying) for the asus tuf 5080, or should I settle for one of the in stock options? Should I wait for something even better to come in stock, potentially a suprim soc?
Or should i downspec to a 70xt/ti?

Non overclocked, 850w will be plenty?

Should i use stock paste, or select mx-4? I know for higher end AIO like the icue titan, the stock paste is better, but what for pcs home brand?

Intended use is 90% gaming, 9% misc, 1% productivity.
1440p - 165hz. Denmark
Budget isnt enough for a 5090, and I whilst dont dislike money, i wouldn't mind paying a bit more for silence. I have peripherals

Thanks for creating a spec thread!

Please be sure to include answers to the following questions so people can assist you quicker.

  • What is the purpose of your PC/laptop? (e.g. gaming, general work, 3D rendering)
  • What monitor resolution will you be using? (e.g. 1080p, 1440p, 4k)
  • What is your budget including currency symbol? (e.g. £2,000, 1000€)
  • Is this budget just for the PC or do you need peripherals as well? (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.)
  • Which country are you purchasing from? (Note that we only operate in the UK and Europe)
  • Any brand preferences?

On CPU, i heard amd is soon to release a 9900x3d and 9950x3d. I hear the 9800x3d is already plenty for a 5080, but correct me if im wrong, but paying extra and waiting for that doesnt make much sense either(?)

I did at the end of the post.

That's not a budget

The frostflow 360 is usually paired with the 9800 and I'd also suggest a 512gb p44 m2 as the first drive just for windows and then have another such as the 2tb one you already have selected for everything else. I'd remove the arctic paste too. It's a waste of money

errant jay
#

the budget depends on the value though. I dont want to spend 3.5k euro if its going to be 5% better than 2.5k euro, just because my max is 3.5k

You haven't answered a single question in the bot post 🙈

I meant in the op, missed the other post

errant jay

I edited it as soon as the bot asked me. What i didnt add was to not clutter the text with "no's"

tight sphinx

Would be useful to add the refresh rate you'll be using 1440p at and which country you are in, think thats mostly whats missing 🙂

formal nest
#

What budget and does it include peripherals and what country are you buying in?

I have 50 symbols remaining

Just make a single post where you answer the questions

Not enough for a 5090 could be €20

It's really not that hard

errant jay
#

mentioning a budget is antiproductive when one of my main questions is whether its worth using the full budget. Youre going to optimize for a specific budget if listed

tight sphinx
#

Anyways, we seem to have the info, so lets getting to actually looking at the build 🙂

formal nest
#

In your opinion but without a budget the difference in spec could be huge

errant jay
#

I would have a hard time not assuming the budget can reach anything but the 5090 when I say not enough for a 5090, with a 5080 listed in specs. But thats just me. You're painting me to be willfully unhelpful on something just because you dont have a square box to work within?

#

Whole point im here asking for help is because I dont have enough knowledge to make a small square for you 🙂

urban radish
#

Change the drives...you want a small500GB just for OS
Go for a 5070...don't need anything else at 1440p
You don't need the Arctix paste

errant jay
#

If my average fps can be higher over 5 years by cutting the budget into two and upgrading, thats what I would want to do

urban radish
#

Done

formal nest
#

Rather than being ignorant while asking for help I suggest you just answer all the bots questions instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. Look at every other spec discussion here and you will see they all have a budget. You don't deserve special treatment and to change the system that works

errant jay
#

Hey youre the one opening with clearly rude connotations

#

My post didnt asnwer the bot questions cuz they bot asked the questions after i posted

#

I tried to fit them in without rewiring the entire post that was already on text limit

formal nest

All of this is irrelevant

Sorry that I dont know the ins and outs of what is common practice here

I would go with 5070 Ti or even AMD 9070 XT for good 1440p per formance

Simple solution was to answer the questions the bot asked in another single post

I hear AMD May run quieter and cooler

errant jay
eternal galleon

personally I like the idea of a cooler running card, the 1% fps lows also bit better on the AMD so yes for me

What about gpu brand model?

tight sphinx
#

IMO the ASUS ones are not worth the price hike over the others (from what I've read oevr the past few years)

errant jay
#

How do I go about making everything i download and what not default to not OS drive?

tight sphinx
#

Most things do let you chose a directory to install to when doing the installation- so just tell it to use the D drive (or E or F if you have more) - for stuff like Steam and Epic games you can set teh drive for thei install directory

urban radish
#

Game launchers provide you the option
Windows you can set the download to wherever you want

#

150 extra delivery with that case you have chosen

Youd say an AIO is less noise than an aircooler in this case? (Despite removing the isolation panel for mesh?

#

Shouldn't I just go with a better airflow case on top then?

formal nest
#

I have the frostflow 240 in my pc and imo it's not noisy

errant jay
#

What about vs the brand corsair ones?

formal nest
#

That case is very expensive too

errant jay
formal nest
#

I honestly can't comment on that

errant jay
#

I'm coming from a predator orion that makes 38 decibels on idle. I'm honestly not sure if im overfocusing on noise because I hate noise, or because my comparison material is utterly bottom tier

formal nest
#

This is the case I have and can't complain about noise. I've never and don't ever have any intention to measure the decibels 😆

#

I bought a prebuilt that was on sale for Black Friday

errant jay
#

Im a speaker gamer, but I cant hear dialogue in my games without a headset sadge

#

45 decibels when gpu is 100% fanspeed.

#

49 with case fans

formal nest
#

That's very loud iirc

errant jay
#

I can attest

formal nest
#

I think I'm getting my wires crossed. Was trying to remember the decibels on the bin lorry I used to drive 😂

errant jay

bit of a website malfunction lol. -1k pounds

Iirc 300-500 on the configurator price

#

The 9800 will be better for gaming
