Hi!
I basically have all my specs down, I'm going with Elimina 17.3" laptop with an RTX 4060.
My only question is should I have it at 16GB RAM or 32GB.
If PCSpecialist doesn't solder it to the motherboard I could go with 16GB and upgrade to 32GB later down the road.
Everything else is fine and I actually manage to be in my budget very well.
Thanks in advance,
Miley.
#Gaming laptop €1500 budget

If you can afford it go 32GB. 16GB isn’t enough these days.
I guess the pro gamers here are right hahaha.
I don't really play AAA titles but I do stream so maybe I should go for 32GB right off the bat.
Saves messing around in the near future and you’ll notice the difference 🙂
My current laptop is basically dying. It has decent specs but because it has been used so much in the past 2.5 years my stream crashes when I play a YouTube video. Poor guy can't handle much anymore.
Once Human lags if I join a VC.
Also only 8GB of RAM which could be the culprit for most of those issues
Ah least this new one will last a while then 🙂 worth stretching budget as much as you can for longevity reasons. My wife has a 4060 laptop and that gpu handles everything thrown at it 🙂
Definately 8GB RAM causing them issues
Let me pull up the old specs rq so you guys get the gist
I know it has a 3060 but I don't remember the CPU
i5-10300H
This old one is getting an upgrade to 16GB pretty soon. We're not giving up on it entirely, it is still fine for general work and stuff
New laptop will have 13th gen i7 🙂
I know nothing about AMD
I only understand Intel numbers. i7 is better than i5 and the first 1 or 2 numbers refer to the generation.
So this is a 10th gen i5
The old oen is a10th gen
Thanks for creating a spec thread!
Please be sure to include answers to the following questions so people can assist you quicker.
- What is the purpose of your PC/laptop? (e.g. gaming, general work, 3D rendering)
- What monitor resolution will you be using? (e.g. 1080p, 1440p, 4k)
- What is your budget including currency symbol? (e.g. £2,000, 1000€)
- Is this budget just for the PC or do you need peripherals as well? (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.)
- Which country are you purchasing from? (Note that we only operate in the UK and Europe)
- Any brand preferences?
They’re talking about their old laptop
Oh and I read rakk’s comment, I’ll get my coat.
Half reading, half dissing you and half killing zombos...numbers don't add up but that is my excuse
an i5 isn't automatically worse than an i7 or i9 in the same generation, it's a bit like comparing a bike to a truck, and saying the truck is better because it has more horsepower, it all comes down to purpose, the i5 will be a better option for gaming, while the i7 is better for productivity.
is there a reason for the Elimina over another laptop? or is it just for the screen size?
The screen size, yes.
It's the biggest option
My current laptop has 17.4"
If you’re building primarily for gaming and sticking to a budget, an i5 is usually plenty. But if you want to future-proof or do additional multitasking, an i7 gives a bit more headroom. For a purely gaming-focused rig, an i5 offers a great value; for gaming plus streaming or higher resolutions, i7 is a good investment.
I'm a streamer so i7 is better based on what ChatGPT says
Performance: In general, i7s are better than i5s for gaming because they have more cores and threads, which helps in CPU-intensive games and multitasking (like gaming while streaming). Modern i7 processors often come with more cache and slightly higher clock speeds, which can give a modest FPS boost in demanding titles or when paired with high-end GPUs.
I wouldn't trust chat GPU if it said pain is painful until I tested it for myself.
but it is correct, with a higher cache it will help smooth the FPS out
Yeah I'll stick with my planned setup then. 13th gen i7 with an RTX 4060
Getting an intel cpu for gaming in 2024
My intel cpu is fine 🙂 so is the wife’s, so are a lot of people with intel CPU’s.
Twitch streaming definitely puts a bit more demand on your setup! In that case, I'd say that going with a CPU that has strong multi-core performance, like the Intel Core i7-13620H, would give you an edge in balancing gaming and streaming. Streaming apps and game capture software tend to utilize multiple cores heavily, so having those extra high-performance cores could make things smoother, especially when you’re streaming demanding games.
But if power efficiency matters (say, if you stream on the go and need solid battery life), then the Ryzen 7 8845HS still packs enough punch for gaming and streaming, and it’s a better choice for efficiency.
Overall, though, the Intel would likely be the stronger choice for streaming on a reliable setup.
I'm going with a laptop because it is cheaper and with a good cooling stand I don't think I will have issues. But the laptop will be always plugged in which means Intel for the win here
I stream on a 7800X3D with no issues, if your cpu has enough resource it’s going to sufficient at its job
For gaming AMD is the way to go and I now see this after years of Intel
a laptop will always have worse price/performance, but a laptop also is far more mobile and takes less space, in the end it's your money, and I imagine you gave it some thought to opt for a laptop over some flavor of desktop
Cooling on a laptop even with a stand will always be an issue
there is a rather bougie cooling stand that actually keeps the temps quite low, but it is loudish
Oh for sure but at the point how portable does your system come when your lugging a bucket of water around 😂
no like a cooling stand, not the liquid cooler thing some laptops can take
I think the laptop is a great choice and for yourself it seems like you’ve took time to get the right criteria but just for gaming and now being turned to a red gang man,AMD for gaming forever
Ah I thought you meant them water coolers you can get from PCS, I’ll take a look as my friend needs a new cooling stand for his laptop that is over heating, mind posting me link to it in the other discord?
13620H would give you an edge in streaming.
Where did you learn this?
I think you may have a fundamental misunderstanding about how power efficiency affects laptops. If a cpu is inefficient in a desktop pc, you just put a bigger cooler on it, if your cpu is inefficient in a laptop, it either, throttles or overheats.
It's not just battery life that's affected. Heat output is where the excess energy is going
If price is your concern I would strongly suggest not getting a laptop.
That is from ChatGPT
I can't afford a desktop with 13th gen i7 and an RTX 4060. That would be €2000
That is why I went with a laptop because then I could get it at €1488
With a cooling stand and carry case included
I'm sure you'll be happy with the choice, it'll have a smaller footprint in the room
Yeah you’ll love it Miley it’s a beautiful laptop 🙂 enjoy! When you purchasing ?
Mobile chips are not equivalent to their full power counter parts. They often have less than 50% of the power budget. Maybe you don't need an rtx 4060 and 13th gen Intel cpu?
Welp that explains a lot
Currently I have a 10th gen i5 and an RTX 3060.
RAM is small only 8GB.
Laptop overheats even with a cooling stand and built in fans turned on max. I figured if I'm upgrading, I might as well UPGRADE.
Poor guy can't even stream a YouTube video, stream crashes.
Can stream games like Kingdom Hearts but can't be in VC while streaming, then everything lags
Early December. That's when I will have saved up
Bummer about the 8 gigs of memory in your old laptop. Beyond that you're not getting much of an upgrade.
However it sounds like you've made up your mind so congrats!
I'm giving it to a friend but I will upgrade the RAM to 16GB before I do so
