Hello, I have a few questions regarding a budget build I've chosen (very new to PCs).

  1. Is this good enough for playing mid/high-ish games like Ready or Not/TF2/Valorant/Overwatch 2?
  2. Is it compatible with a dual-monitor setup (extended, not duplicated)? (I have no idea where the hdmi cables go)

If I've missed anything or my build is flawed, please let me know, thank you :)

Thanks for creating a spec thread!

Please be sure to include answers to the following questions so people can assist you quicker.

  • What is the purpose of your PC/laptop? (e.g. gaming, general work, 3D rendering)
  • What monitor resolution will you be using? (e.g. 1080p, 1440p, 4k)
  • What is your budget including currency symbol? (e.g. £2,000, 1000€)
  • Is this budget just for the PC or do you need peripherals as well? (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.)
  • Which country are you purchasing from? (Note that we only operate in the UK and Europe)
  • Any brand preferences?

PC only, I already have the peripherals

And the other questions? budget? currency + country? resolution/refresh rate of your monitor?

deft bobcat
#

oop, sorry

-purpose = unity game development + mid/high-ish gaming
-monitor = 1080p, 60hz
-budget = £800
-no peripherals
-uk
-no brand preferences

For a custom build that’s 800 pounds you can easily go for an Rtx 3060 or 4060 provided you didn’t spend too much on any other specs of the pc

deft bobcat
#

I see, thank you :)

Just to say that the 3050 is just an awful card and is not a gaming card so you dont want that one anyway.
Any GPU should be able to deal with at least 2 monitors - most are 4 now-a-days - you just plug each monitor into the GPU, though you may need convertors eg DP to HDMI of your monitors dont have DP
Hopefully one of our regulars may be able to help with a spec - though 800 is a low budget

deft bobcat
#

Gotcha, I'll try for a better GPU then

And ty, wasn't exactly sure where HDMIs went-

And I'm not planning on running any beefy games at all, nor any games on high settings, so I don't really want to spend a lot. But if £800 is still low I understand

£800 will not get you very far and you would have to cut a lot of corners that make the whole build/config not worth investing into

With AMD, which is the more budget friendly version on last gen, you can see how little you can get for just under £800. And by no means would I recommend anyone to get this build for gaming

An rtx 3060 takes the price to £850, which is still doable for me (I came into this expecting to have my budget expectations proven wrong)

As long as it runs okay games and I can upgrade stuff at a later date, I'm content

#

the issue with an AM4 system is that since it's an old platform upgrades will be limited, and much of it will be used parts

#

the CPU, the best upgrades would be a 5700X3D or 5800X3D, the 5800X3D is no longer being produced, so no more new stock

#

RAM is going slowly too, and the GPU will also be limited with the 50 series going toward PCIe 5, you can install it, but it will be slowed down

#

also, the 4060 is slightly cheaper than the 3060, so if you still want to buy the PC, go with that instead

#

My honest advice...
Be patient, hold off, save some more money and then pull the trigger.
I would say to get something half decent that lasts you a while you should invest about £1200 at minimum to not regret any of the choices later down the line

surreal pendant
#

1200 would get a solid AM5 system, allowing you to get good upgrade options

deft bobcat
#

Yeah that sounds logical tbh. I'll do some looking then ask some more questions later if that's okay, ty guys

deft bobcat
#

updated it to this, comes out to £1254 (added another SSD of 1TB, so 2TB total)

unsure if it looks good. Case also comes with 4 fans, idk if I'll need any more. And is the standard AMD 105W TDP good enough?

hard rivet
#

So is you budget now 1250?
If so you would want an AM5 system, not AM4 which is what you have there (the motherboard details show its AM4 fyi)

deft bobcat
#

yeah my initial budget was just how much I can afford now. It seems it's better to wait and get something better though, so my budget isn't exactly capped (but I still don't want to spend silly money)

also there are no am5 options in the motherboard dropdown, idk if I'm just stupid or

hard rivet
#

Different configurator for AM5 systems thats why they arent on there

deft bobcat
#

idk what that means 😭 sorry

surreal pendant
#

AM5 is a different set of motherboards and CPUs

deft bobcat
#

OH

#

that's what you mean, gotcha, ty

hard rivet
#

Do note if its going to take a while to save (eg if its not going to eb til next year) it may be better to come asking again when the time is a bit closer as things can change significantly

deft bobcat
#

i shouldn't have to wait too long, but ty for the concern !

here's a solid 1080p spec on AM5, with good upgrade options

deft bobcat
#

oml tysm

#

possibly a stupid question but it supports bluetooth right

surreal pendant
#

the motherboard does BT+Wifi

#

if you wanted to spend a little more for max upgrade options, the next motherboard up, the prime X670-P, has PCIe 5, making it ready for the 50 series GPUs, and does not loose out on wifi/BT

deft bobcat
#

how important is that for a gaming pc casual,,

surreal pendant
#

the PCIe 5? for future upgrades, very, because PCIe 4 slots would slow down the card, crippling it, making you loose out it's capability and wasting your money

#

the 40 series GPUs like the 4060 still use PCIe 4, so it's not an immediate concern, but spend a little now, so you can put off buying a whole new system for much longer

deft bobcat
#

and for only £42 extra.. you got a good point there, tysm

steel jacinth
surreal pendant
#

not everyone wants to run on peasant settings

#

and many folks are happy to spend a little extra now, to save much more later

worn ibex
#

You are also in a different country if I am not mistaken and prices for parts don't necessarily translate equally

#

Also, you have looked at the link I posted above? I would not buy that system

And neither would I suggest anyone would
