at 1080p, the CPU is more important than the GPU, the 10700 is getting long in the tooth at this point, and just upgrading the CPU would be kind of like lipstick on a pig, since all you can upgrade to is the intel 11th gen, and you won't see huge gains, new PC would serve you better at this point, if you want to stay on 1080, then the 3070 is fine and can easily be transplanted, and while the 3070 is no beast, it will do fairly well at 1440, but it will be sweating depending on your settings

yeah, frankly the amount of upgrades needed to make 1440 work on your PC would cost so much a new PC is the better option

here's a system, about in the middle of your budget, with solid 1440 performance, and lots of upgrade potential

the cooler and PSU are technically over specced, but if you want to upgrade those are nice to have in advance

#

the motherboard also can be called overkill, but with the 50 series GPUs on the horizon, the PCIe 5 capability will make sure later GPUs aren't held back by the board itself

dull eagle
#

He can stick to the components of his current pc and upgrade components

#

He doesn’t have to upgrade case, psu, ssd and cooler

#

He just need a motherboard, cpu and gpu upgrade

wild trench
#

...and RAM

At this point I know I would invest into a complete new build

hot star
#

550W leaves no room to upgrade, the RAM is limp at best for these days, a motherboard costs a fair bit, it's basically a whole new PC at that point

dull eagle
#

But he can stick with hi so case and cooler

#

If he bought a new pc he would need to buy a new case and cooler

#

Which would cost more

scarlet lodge
#

Case and cooler is onlya small amount of the build

dull eagle
#

Yeh but it’s still cost

hot star
#

yeah, case and cooler are 100-250GBP, and with a new PC the parts and PC overall has a new warranty

dull eagle
#

A good case and cooler can be 100-200 £

scarlet lodge
#

Also we cannot discuss self-builds in here at which point the thread would be moot

wild trench
#

Let's put it this way...
You're not wrong
But a new PC, provided they can afford it, would just make more sense. Especially when given the opportunity to move into current gen supporting DDR5

dull eagle
#

He can stick with the i7 10th hen and make a gpu upgrade to the 4070 super and psu upgrade to 750 watts

#

Ik the cpu might need an upgrade but the i7 10700 and 4070 super make a good 1440p combo

plucky vector
#

to the OP: since you already got the monitor, just plug it into your PC and see how the performance is!

dull eagle
#

But if ur pc can’t run gud in 1440p then u can go for a gigabyte etc 4070 ti super and a cooler master 850 watt gold psu for around 925 £

#

I’m from India and I’m converting the price of the components in India to pounds, so the price might waver a little bit
