I am just a gamer who wants to game.
My monitor is the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo 49"
The PC i'm upgrading from was built in 2014 with one upgrade, being the graphics card which is a 2070 super.

Thanks for creating a spec thread!

Please be sure to include answers to the following questions so people can assist you quicker.

  • What is the purpose of your PC/laptop? (e.g. gaming, general work, 3D rendering)
  • What monitor resolution will you be using? (e.g. 1080p, 1440p, 4k)
  • What is your budget including currency symbol? (e.g. £2,000, 1000€)
  • Which country are you purchasing from? (Note that we only operate in the UK and Europe)
  • Any brand preferences?

Generally looks good! I would recommend dropping the motherboard to the tuf x670e, and getting a faster 1TB m.2 drive, like the SOLIDIGM p44 in it's place

#

I recommend the TUF version because it is a mostly black motherboard, and the strix is silver and white, so may end up looking weird in a black case

mystic cipher
#

Thank you for your advice, how would I go about changing it? I don't see the option on the website.

broken bear
#

while it's in processing it might not let you amend, once it hits pre-production the amend option should appear

#

but even if you should choose not to make a change the system will be solid

last agate
#

Correct. During processing (paperwork and payment verification) you won't be able to amend your order.
Once it is in pre-prod, there will be an option to amend/update your order.

You just won't be able to swap from AMD to Intel. Everything else, pretty much freedom

mystic cipher
#

Ok, I'll keep an eye out for that. I was aware that it was a white motherboard, I just had read it was a good one. Thanks for saying that it would be solid though, I've been agonising over this for months whilst saving. I've tried to teach myself somewhat to the point I was going to build it myself. It's just there wasn't a huge price difference for me that would make me want to make that a reality.

broken bear
#

it should show under the actions column IIRC

dusk granite
#

I'd agree on the SSD upgrades, 970 EVO is gen 3. The only other thing to note is that some of your fans will be Link ones, the rest PWM, so you'll have a mix of wiring. It will all work together, but just to call that out.

mystic cipher
#

There is the option for me to amend the order now actually.

#

What would you suggest I change the SSD's to again? Both or just one?

broken bear
#

just the 1TB one, the faster that drive is,as windows will be one it, the faster the whole system will be

#

one of these two is just fine for that

last agate
#

Honestly, whilst changing it for a faster one, I'd also pull it down to a 500GB drive....for Windows and Windows only (+ those pesky apps that insist on being on C:)

dusk granite
#

I'd go 500GB P44, 2TB P41. If in budget of course

#

And if you can stretch, both P44

mystic cipher
#

Ok, I'll make those suggest changes

Mobo is now the TUF X670E
SSDS are now 512 P44 and the 2TB P44

#

I've saved £9

dusk granite

Then you're golden, and can take comfort that if it doesn't perform well, you can blame Achilles.

Make sure to add silver warranty!

mystic cipher
#

I've gone with Gold.

dusk granite
#

Ohh.... someone has money to burn! 😛

broken bear
#

well they are getting a mortgage for a 4090, so they may as well!

mystic cipher
#

I am a very fortunate person right now. It's always been my dream to have a great PC. This is going to sound odd, I do have friends who play PC and know about parts but as soon as I show them what I want they tell me why what I've built is rubbish and I should go cheaper. But I'm really happy with it and as I said, i'm fortunate I can afford it.

broken bear
#

them saying it's rubbish and should go cheaper are likely just visited by the green eyed monster, that PC will be the best gaming PC you can get without overclocking and fully liquid cooled

dusk granite
#

Agreed.

broken bear
#

7800X3d is the best CPU for gaming at this time, and the 4090 is the best consumer GPU at this time

mystic cipher
#

You've all been super helpful and non-judgemental and I just wish I had mates that were the same. But, in them being off with me it's allowed me to do my research and get the PC for my money.

dusk granite
#

Your friends are talking out their 🍑

broken bear
#

I am judging the hell out of you for the corsair fans, and with it iCue woes and all the unicorn dandruff that comes with it

tawdry whale
#

DrLeft doesnt like RGB

mystic cipher
#

I'm not the biggest fan of RGB. My original build had the Fractal Meshify and no RGB but they didn't have the Meshify on there anymore so I went with the Corsair, at least I didn't go fully white and can turn the lights off!

dusk granite
#

Yeah, would be nice of PCS had a better range of non RGB fans.

#

Noctua, BeQuiet....

broken bear
#

preferably none of the poo brown Noctua fans

mystic cipher
#

I almost hit the AK620 with the Fractal Torrent but it just didn't sit right with me.

broken bear
#

the AK620 is a perfectly fine cooler for the 7800X3D, the AMD CPUs might be hot, but they aren't nearly the infernos that the current gen Itnel ones are

mystic cipher
#

My gut said go team rainbow, you're older and wiser now! GET WITH THE YOUTH!

#

Yeah I absolutely agree, the AK620 is great for it, and a lot cheaper too, but my budget could swing upwards like that thankfully.

#

I don't know. long term, which I plan to have this, there isn't enough evidence that either system of cooling is better that I've found? I could be wrong, I've only been reading forums.

broken bear
#

the h150 does have better cooling capacity, and should the zen 5 CPUs also have X3D variants, then it would likely not need a cooler upgrade to come with, where the AK620 might not be enough

#

that being said, you won't need to upgrade for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time

mystic cipher
#

I waited a decade for this upgrade I can wait another decade 🙂

neat bobcat

I haven’t read up (yet) but gold or platinum warranty is worth it and it’s not my fault lol

mystic cipher

I went with Gold warranty.

neat bobcat

Also your friends are just jealous 😉 that’s a beast of a machine.

last agate
#

The only reason why your friends might be saying to go cheaper is the GPU choice
The 4090 is technically a workstation card...or at least intended to be one. A 4080 would be fantasatic in your build as well.
But, if you got the cash, get that 4090 for those couple of extra FPS and bragging rights

mystic cipher
mystic cipher
last agate
#

Right, you mentioned a cat...let's go there as well whilst we're at it...
Where is the PC going to live? As in placement

hybrid python
#

That looks like a great build and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it! Look forward to seeing it in #1128254319859355698 🙂

mystic cipher
#

I recently retired from my trade which I had been working in for a couple of decades, I want to be able to expand my horizons in the future and I might eventually work at this PC. I will retrain but I'm not sure into what profession. So even though I'd have to make adjustments. I've given myself that as an option.

mystic cipher
mystic cipher
#

The cat is named Buddy and he doesn't really care for my current PC. He does leave a lot of hair on my desk though.

last agate
#

Okay, those are the things I wanted to hear 😉
Best option, on the desk
Second best, on a tray under the desk

last agate
dusk granite
#

With a widescreen, a desk like mine is called for. 160x80

mystic cipher
hybrid python
#

Fortunately my cat doesn't climb on me or my desk when I'm gaming.. or mess around with cables actually. She sits at my feet and screams at me for food instead

mystic cipher
#

He does that also... He ignores me when I've got my steering wheel out and i'm playing Euro Truck Simulator. But as soon as the mouse wire is flicking about, it's hunting time.

broken bear
#

in that case I recommend investing in the G512/G512 hero and the G915

mystic cipher
mystic cipher
broken bear
#

yes, but mine is mostly a low light level blue for when it's dark, and off otherwise

mystic cipher
#

That's the keyboard, what mouse do you suggest?

broken bear
#

G502, had a typo earlier

#

yes, it has RGB, hard to avoid, but they are indicators

last agate
#

Or G903
Doc and I are Logitech "Ambassadors"
I myself got the G903 and the G915....super happy with both

#

(and you can turn the RGB off if you don't like it)

broken bear
#

if you want a no muss no fuss set, G603 and G613, the batteries last forever, but has no RGB

mystic cipher
#

Which of the mice is heavier?

broken bear
#

as in, I changed the batteries once every 6 or so months with cosntant daily use

#

G603 is slightly heavier

#

like 10 gram or so

mystic cipher
#

Cool, I've always like that resistance, it reminds me of when I first started using a PC.

dusk granite
#

Heavy roller ball in the mouse?

mystic cipher
#

Exactly 🙂

last agate
#

The G903 also has weights you can add/remove according to preference

mystic cipher
broken bear
#

same with the 502, but it still won't be quite as heavy as the 603

mystic cipher
#

I think I'm going to go with the G903. Regarding the Logitech G915 Keyboard, my current one has a wrist rest, any you'd recommend?

#

I don't know if that's odd, I built and restored furniture for 20 years and my hands and wrists are not as supple and flexible as they once were! They need to be supported.

neat bobcat
#

Alienware keyboard and mouse it’s all you’ll need 🙂

last agate
#

Re wrist rest...and please note that this is personal experience and mileage might vary...
As the G915 is a low profile keyboard, I really don't need a wrist rest anymore. Yes, it took me a couple of days of getting used to it buut now it's pretty much perfection for me

#

There is no unnatural lifting of hands when using this keyboard

#

Lifting? More like "angling up at the wrist"

mystic cipher
last agate
#

I've come from the Blackwidow Chroma V2 to the G915

broken bear
#

I went from the G613 to the G915, so from a beefy to a slim keyboard, and while I was leery of the slip keyboard, a year+ later, I can say the slim keyboard is more comforatble, even without a handrest

mystic cipher
#

Ordered the G915 and a G502. I realised the G502 was more to the shape of my current mouse which I'm happy with.

last agate
mystic cipher
#

The only thing I forgot to do was use a promo code on the PC order. I could have saved £30.

dusk granite
#

I went from Zoom65 V2 to M0110 to Neo65, and that's just this morning.... But in terms of wrist support etc, it;s about what works for you and your style of typing. I'd be looking at the overall ergonomics, including how you sit in the chair, angle of elbows, how close keyboard is to you etc. It's the sum of all the parts that impacts your comfort.

mystic cipher
#

I will need a new chair soon, a bigger desk too.

broken bear
#

while I can't give direct advice about ergonomics, for the love of all that is good and holy, do not buy a gaming chair, they are bad office chairs with an ugly trim

dusk granite
mystic cipher
#

I never would buy a gaming chair.

broken bear
#

as a Sihoo user, I can confrim mine is good and has been a great investment

dusk granite
#

Sihoo gang assemble! I Think that's Dr, Mibu, Achilles and me.

#

Four fat asses don't lie! 😛

mystic cipher
#

I'm on the thicker side of weight and I'm 6'1 so I'm going to need something that support the girth and density.

dusk granite
#

You're Achilles sized so 😛

#

Sihoo chairs manage tall people well, I'm 6', no issue.

broken bear
#

I am 5 11, and about 130KG, so it should be fine for the height range they work with

#

it's 6 3 and up where they might start being too small

dusk granite
#

And about 85Kg according to the nurse who weighed me last weekend

broken bear
#

6ft and 85kg? do you rattle when shook? 😛

dusk granite
#

I'm a bit dubious about the weighing scale in said hospital....

mystic cipher
#

That's a goal weight for me.

dusk granite
#

I'd have said closer to 95Kg

#

I'll find out again tomorrow I guess

They've shown me that support and such, in case something goes wrong, SIHOO is amazign in helping their customers. BIOS doesn't detect your AIO. Might be as simple as a lose connection

mystic cipher
neat bobcat
#

I’d call them rather than email it’ll be faster

mystic cipher
dusk granite
#

Yeah the Corsair Aio has a cable that connects to the FAN_CPU header to report a fake fan speed, this is to prevent the error message in your image. If the cable is not connected or loose, this will result in the message appearing. The other cause is that the AIO system has failed, and no fan speed is being reported.

#

If all the aio fans and pump are flashing red, it's likely the unit has failed, and this is the built in mechanism to alert the user.

#

It could be as simple as the connection to the USB header is loose, so the aio etc can't be controlled, worse case is the pump has failed and the whole AIO needs to be replaced. Hopefully after some troubleshooting PCS can diagnose the issue and solution

mystic cipher
#

The all the fans were flashing red and then the whole case went dark except for the RAM.

#

These were the questions and my answers via email so far.

  • Touch the pump itself, does it seem to be vibrating?
    No
  • Do the pipes feel as though they are different temperatures or the same?
    The same
  • Can you hear a strange sound coming from the pump?
I can occasionally hear a gurgling sound, like a gentle ripple of water
  • Are the lights on?
The lights are on but when running the game the lights went off as they all started flashing red.
#

-not part of the email-

I was in a computer game when the first error occured.

mystic cipher
#

Hey guys - the solution PCspecialist gave doesnt seem to have worked. I'll be calling them again tomorrow, I've had the pump error and the red lights flashing again.
I went into the icue app and the pump fan seems to be at around 2500rpm and the other fans are about 500 and that's with no load whatsoever. I'm assuming that not normal?

dusk granite
#

Nope, entirely normal

mystic cipher
dusk granite
#

Have you tried reinstalling iCUE?

mystic cipher
#

There was a bit of gurgling from the pump at one point... does that normally happen?

dusk granite
#

It can do, sometimes at start and then the pump will move air to the rad. You can always trying putting pc on side to help etc. The corsair forums are a good resource for help too, trying searching for your issue.

mystic cipher
mystic cipher
#

Do you know, if worst case scenario happens and I need a whole new pump does the PC get sent back? Because I've kept the box and all the things it came in together just incase...
