#Recoil 17" Water-Cooled

So I've been looking into getting a recoil 17 from pcs but upon doing some research multiple people have said that having the water cooler is necessary due to the recoil chassis retaining a lot of heat causing it to get rather hot after a few hours??

Can someone properly shed some light on this and give me some actual informative or professional information on this and whether or not it is worth it...

Thank you.

A few users here have a recoil laptop.

As to the heat, it's not so much it retains heat, more that the CPU and GPU are powerful, as such put out more heat than the air cooling can handle alone when going full tilt

So with general usage, music production and light gaming this should be of no issue then? Unless I'm trying to achieve over say 150+ fps at say 2k? (Screen max resolution I believe)

Well I'm not the type of person to have multiple windows or programs open all at once which will end up putting big strain on both cpu/gpu so I'd imagine this would be fine? I won't be streaming while gaming.. only streaming I may do is live mixing (djing) where I won't even really use music software unless I want to access my whole collection rather than what's on external usbs..

#

I was looking at the water cooler to get with it regardless incase of heating issues but thinking about it, I shouldn't really be putting so much strain on it thay I'd need it on all the time

If you're not going to need the power that the CPU/GPU offer, then it might be best looking at one of the less powerful laptops which will in turn produce less heat? 🙂

#

But yeah.. if you don't plan on doing anything heavy then I don't see why you'll need the external cooling solution. So it should be fine.

#

You can get cooling stands as well to help

Thanks for your help.. do you have any first hand experience with this model yourself? As upon reading some reviews online I am now unsure of what options would better suit my needs

#

I need at least 4tb storage (I have almost 2tb of music on an external already because of current laptop storage) and ideally 64gb ram 5200mhz or 32gb 4800mhz and i9 14900HX

No personal experience as I'm a desktop user.. but there are others in this Discord that have the recoil. There have been comments on the temperatures when pushed and like I say, that is a bit unavoidable when you're putting such powerful components into a small space. From what I've seen, people seem to be happy with the performance however. If you want a 14900 CPU then at the moment the Recoil is your only option. There should be more laptops arriving with 14th gen CPUs in due course but I'm unable to speculate as to when and what they'll be.

Can't the 14900hx be over clocked is is that not possible with the recoil?

Nooo I don't need or even want to over clock as I would never have a reason to 🤣 was just a question, don't mind me lol..

#

Just saw on a thread that someone was trying to with theirs but it was locked or something

I'm unsure to be honest.. but you get next to no benefit overclocking CPUs these days. They just end up running hotter, using more power and reducing their lifespan for little gain 🙂

Pretty sure the last thing youd want to do in a laptop is overclock an already hot CPU 🙂

little latch
#

Did think that would cause major heating issues.. like I say I'll never need to over clock was just a random question while trying to learn about bits and bobs

Yeah no worries.. always good to ask

Hi. I purchased this recoil 17 with WC stuff for 3D and vfx videos rendering. but I don't use WC under 2mn estimated time of rendering but above I active it, to keep high speed operation because of when it become hot it underwork for keeping healty, sorry for my poor english.

About Two month ago, still fresh yet

Cool! It's likely that this will be the model I am going for now..

I would like have last i9 inside but they haven't build the "chassis" for it yet. But it stay very efficace.

little latch
#

I'm sure they have as it is now an available option.. when you got yours 2 months ago I believe the i9 14900hx wasn't even released?? Correct me if I am wrong though

thorny topaz
#

It was unavailable last end year

little latch
#

That's because it was released in January I think

thorny topaz
#

Outch, so near..
but the under one still works fine. I'm not desappointed.

#

What do you use your recoil for? I'm likely to use it for light gaming, storing music, music production, and streaming if I can get set up for it...

#

How does it hold up with heavy tasks/multi tasking? Also how much RAM did you get

#

I also say light gaming due to only potentially playing fornite (not regularly), BO3 custom zombies (maybe) & Fable whenever it gets released if it comes to PC

#

For future proofing I'll imaging I'm well alright with the build I've got in mind

thorny topaz
#

I use it for graphisme 2D/3D animation renders.
64gb. Have to well setup each soft (playing in same time) for the allocated memory.
I'm still learning processors behaviours.
I have 0 game installed.
Sorry for my poor english.

little latch
#

What do you mean you had to set them up so they're in the same time

thorny topaz
#

You can give "number" of memory for each big soft, have to deal between them, just for exemple : 64gb total:
10 for photoshop
15 for after effects
15 for 3ds max
15 for blender
Etc

#

It permits to no not freeze widely

So you can separate them to each application through the settings ? Sorry for noob questions I don't particularly know too much about doing that
