Heya! What’s the budget for this system?

#

Will you be transferring the windows key over?

Budget is around £1200 for everything besdies the GPU, I will be transferring the windows key and current GPU.

The 13700 would run perfectly fine with a 3060Ti, I have a 3070 with a 13700k, but yeah the AMD CPU's may be abetter choice

And if you copy the link right at the bottom, it’ll let me see the full spec (:

Here you go, appreciate the help guys

#

@distant yacht Yeah I was debating AMD but I've always stuck with Intel and never had any issues and heard the 13700 is a great CPU

#

It's not so much about performance but would I see any benefit from the CPU and RAM I'm upgrading too? I'm currently running a i7 8700k with 16gb of DDR4 but planning on going to a 13700 and 32gb of DDR5. Obviously depends game to game etc.

#

I wish PCS stocked the 13700k but looks like they only have the 13700 which is a little upsetting.

#

Ohhh, I've seen you've gone white case and kinda mobo, are you after a white build?

I'm not after a white build but again PCS don't stock the black version of the 4000x unfortunately, the 5000x is available but unsure if I want to go for yet. What AMD CPU would you recommend that performs with the 13700k? I've never gone with AMD nor know how their product names work, I know 5800x etc. but unsure on what is actually the go to for performance

-If you wanted to you could always send in the 4000X from a different retailer. it's a super simple process
-The direct rival to the 13700K I think would probably be the 7700X
-Think the naming scheme is actually fairly simple. Ryzen 3, 5, 7, 9 is all the same as Intel. Tith the latest generation, you have 500 and 600 for Ryzen 5, 700 and 800 for Ryzen 7 and 900 and 950 for Ryzen 9. The X for this gen is effectively a higher TDP (CPU uses more power). The F means no graphics (only see this on the low spec 7500F). Then the X3D means they have 3D/Stacked L3 V-Cache... which is important for gaming. Hence, the 7800X3D and 7950X3D are where you wanna be for a gaming PC. Any other Q's about the naming scheme shoot and I'll do my best to answer (:

Just chucked this together for you (:
-4000D for plenty of airflow
-7800X3D is point blank the fastest gaming CPU money can buy atm, so won't have an issue keeping up with the likes of a 4080
-Gone for the B650 AORUS, it's a lovely board
-Speedier 6000mhz RAM. Gone RGB because you did in your original build
-Muuuch more storage in this one. 500GB boot drive and a 2TB games drive
-Then for cooling, I've gone for the PCS FF360, which will sit at the front of the case, acting as intake fans on the 4000D (so no need for the X 😉 ). If you wanted to keep to the corsair ecosystem, we could make some adjustments to get the Capellix H150i in there for you

Wow man really appreciate your time and effort, will take a look now,

I have seen some people saying by going with AM5, I won't have to change the motherboard if I did want to upgrade in the future? Is that true? If so that is very good and the price that you've managed to get with a better mobo too is crazy to me.

#

Is the better MOBO important? I've always gone with Asus Prime mobos and never really looked at it too hard, is there a benefit to spending the extra say £100 or less?

It should be the case yeah. Intel generally operates on a 'tick tock' system where they change the socket every 2 generations, so if you wanna update it's likely you'll have to update the mobo too. They've been kind enough to grace us with 3 updates for this socket (12th-14th) but I'm almost certain that 14th is the last one on that socket. Comparee this to AMD, which if AM4 (the previous socket) is anything to go by, we should get about 4-5 generations of considerable generational upgrades with AM5

Its a bit of a balance really. you're not gonna gain 20% performance on games by picking a more expensive mobo... well, aside from extreme cases where you have a poo tier mobo and a top end CPU 😂 The Prime B650 would run the 7800X3D fine but if you were to go for a more demanding CPU in the future, it might not keep up quite so well. I find the B650 to be a really nice premium balance between more than capable, and not OTT. It's what I go to for the nicer builds I recommend

Ahhh okay yeah that makes sense, that's great man I really do appreciate it, sometimes hard to get good feedback, saw you went with the 6000mhz instead of the 5600mhz I put for some reason, if I'm going DDR5 might as well get the max out of it :D

Going back to the early question, I'm pretty set on the 7800x3d after researching a little, you've completely turned my head on AMD, I have no idea how it out performs the other CPUs at the same if not lower price omegaLUL

But will the 7800x3d work "decent" enough with a 3060ti until I get the funds to get a 4080? My main worry is it bottlenecking and then I've spent £1200 on a much better PC but not seeing the performance gains (I know GPU isn't everything and is game dependant but still unsure on how much I'll gain from it)

Might have been motherboard incompatibilities 😂 PCS X ASUS Mobo's X 6000mhz RAM doesn't get on for some reason Sadge

Intel is overpriced, that's why 😉 jk, its great really, I guess Intel have their brand they can fall back on where as AMD kinda has to be the underdog to gain the cuatomers. Makes for a good deal if you're happy to be a lil daring!

Bottleneck is a term thats thrown around wayyyyy too much. neither part will bottleneck the other. Yes, the 7800X3D is quite a powerful CPU for the 3060TI, is that an issue? Nope. Wouldn't wanna get a CPU that performs well for the 3060TI if you're actively planning on buying a 4080 😂

#

What CPU do you currently have?

gusty terrace
#

I currently have a i7 8700k running with 16gb of DDR4 3000mhz RAM

amber storm
#

8700K is 3600ish performance. you'd be looking at like 3 significant performance tier jumps there 😂

gusty terrace
#

Wow really so can I expect some decent performance gains out of the box with the new CPU and RAM before purchasing a new GPU? (dependant on game usage etc.)

bought this PC I currently have from PCS 6 years ago and then bought the 3060ti at the start of the year, thanks man you've really put my mind at rest and completely made me do a 180 on AMD and their performance,

Only thing I've changed with the build you made is the M.2s, I already have 1 so I'll just remove 1 and keep the 1TB one,

and finally I think I want to go with the corsair AIO as the AIO I had with my old PCS PC that was PCS made died within a couple years.

Removing the M.2 balanced it out though and price is showing at £1188 which is where I wanted to be anyways.

#

I might also change the case only because the 4000d only comes with 2 I believe so I'd have to buy extra fans,

here's one for you, without going through the hassle of buying a black 4000x and sending it in,

how would you think a white case with black components would look? I know it's personal preference but usually frowned upon lmao

For the H100i elite cappelix XT sorry not the 115, I think I want the radiator at the top instead of the front hence why I picked the 100i, I can put the revised configuration in now, came to 1210 in the end which still is good

amber storm
# gusty terrace I might also change the case only because the 4000d only comes with 2 I believe ...

I generally believe that if you go white, go as white as possible. I've never been a huge fan of these white case black everything else builds

My idea with the 4000D/ 360mm AIO was that the AIO would be front mounted, acting as front intake fans, like the ones you'd get in the 4000X. Kinda hitting 2 birds with 1 stone. Stole this pic as an example- your PC would then have the stock black fans at the back and at the top at the back instead of the RGB ones shown here.
