I'm looking to get a new pc for 4k up to 120fps gaming as I have an LG CX to use it on as well as a 1440p 180fps monitor. I'm coming from a 2080ti and i7 9700k so would want to keep it as a significant upgrade from that whilst sticking to a budget of around similar to what that pc originally cost me (around £2200) but it's not a strict budget as I want to keep this for at least 5 years with no big upgrades. I have also looked at the amd r7 7800x3d which does look like one of the best gaming processors however it is still only 8 cores so I want to make sure games run very smooth with good 1% and 0.1% lows and minimal stutters. I play a mix of quite demanding games and also more cpu intensive games which was why I was a bit put off from the 7800x3d but if I am over worrying about that I would be more than happy to choose that cpu instead. If anything in there is overkill or if any other option is much better value for money please suggest them. My main budget is around £2200 but i'm fine going £100-£200 over if the changes are worthwhile as it is a long term investment and don't want to in a few years time wish I spent that little bit more on something better. This currently comes in at £2222

Heya!
The 7800X3D is point blank the fastest gaming cpu you can buy, and if it’s got any competition it’s the 7950X3D. 8 cores is still plenty for gaming- it’s a single core heavy application so you’re better off having 1 fast core than as many cores as possible (which would be the case in something like video editing). The intel range also has a bit of a sneaky trick. The 14700K is also only 8 cores, it’s just then got 12 “efficiency” cores strapped to it which do nothing for gaming performance.
In terms of the rest of the build, it looks fairly solid. I’m not a fan of that case, would look to a higher airflow option, and if you’re after white you could go for PCS new Spectrum II in white which I think looks fab or there’s the 4000D RGB in white which is also a fab case (or go all out with their Luna configurator 👀) I’d probably separate the drive up slightly and pop a 500GB OS in there. Would up the speed of the ram slightly. I also think the RGB strips can actually look a bit tatty sometimes so wouldn’t personally have them, but if you like ‘em then all good!
On 2nddd thoughts. 4K and 12GB of VRAM, if it’s not already an issue it soon will be. Unless you’re absolutely fixed to NVIDIA (in which case we’ll look at some adjustments) it’d likely be worth looking at thr AMD alternatives as they have FAR more VRAM than the NVIDIA counterparts

Thanks for the advice. This is what I’ve changed it to and it's around £2,324
For 400 more in total is the 4090 worth it? As if it is without doubt best one of the two I would look at ways of getting it but it would increase the cost to at least £2,700. I would prefer to stick to nvidia because of ray tracing and dlss 3.0.
Is the cooling about right or overkill for that cpu?
Also with the storage split is 1tb fine with the other being 2tb? Or is it worth the extra £70 or so to go 512gb and 4tb?
Also I would be almost always using wired so would a wireless card be necessary or does the pc still have bluetooth?
Looks pretty good! Wanna share the link? Will have a bit of a play (:
To answer your questions
The 4090 is point blank the fastest GPU you can buy, and honestly if you're looking at 4K and playing demanding games it might be worth it. It's probably the first card to be properly capable of 4K gameplay. Also worth noting that the higher you go in resolution the less CPU you need, so honestly you could go for te 7700X here and still have a monster machine
The 7800X3D is a weirdly undemanding CPU when it comes to power and thermals so that cooler should be fine
It really depends on how many games you'll have installed. Some people do with 1TB, some people have 2.5 as a bare minimum. I think for a high end machine like this, a 500GB Boot drive and a 2TB games drive is a good place to start
If you're ever using wireless you'll need WiFi, whether that be a card or a motherboard that has it built in. These days, the built in WiFi cards are of a decent standard and come with both WiFi and bluetooth. The Prime doesn't have WiFi or bluetooth (but the TUF B560 WiFi or the B650 AORUS Elite AX both do)

Thanks for putting that build together! For the price increase ill probably instead use a non wifi board and use a £20 wifi card. I also have alternative arrangements for windows so in total it comes in just under £2,600 as I will probably go for 7700x which at least imo is really good price for a 4090 pc!
The pc is for Christmas so my final decision on spec like 4080 vs 4090 will probably be in just under a month. Dunno if there will be any offers on around Black Friday

That shows around 2620 as i added 500gb extra storage as wasn’t much extra and i think i accidentally chose the h60 cooler
To get under
What's your hard limit on pricing? The difference between the Prime and the AORUS is more than just WiFi, the Prime should be fine for a 7800X3D, but you won't want to put anyhting suuuuper power hungry in it as the VRM's aren't fantastic. And as a cheaper board, you'll want to make sure the rear ports suffice.
PCS does have Black Friday sales, but they tend to be on set specs, and I don't think it tends to be this high end.
Although I realise the prime is also silver+ white so would look better in the white case 😂
