Hi, my old PCSpecialist gaming PC seems to have died after 9 years so I need to get a replacement. I've only got a limited budget and currently just have a 1080p monitor. SO I'm after advice for a desktop PC spec for around £800-900. It'll be used for gaming, uni work and online meetings. I'd like something that would be possible to upgrade if I get a better monitor later.

Heya! What uni work is it? And do you reckon you'd be able to recover your windows licence from the old PC?
with those meetings, is a camera required, or do you already have one? helps to know this as even a shoddy camera runs 20+quid, which can make quite a difference in performance
also, is wifi a must, or can you live without it?
Here's a provisional build in the mean time, a bit of wiggle room left in the high end of the budget, and some things can be dropped as needed to save a few quid

as Junior brought up, if you can salvage that windows license that would be a big win, as you save roughly 120 quid, and that goes a long long way
it would bring my build to under 800, or allow you to keep the price, and get a better system
dropping the wifi and windows, gets you a better system at a lower price, like this as an example

also, maybe you can get a windows key from your uni, if salvaging is not an option, mine did at the time, but that was 10 years ago
I've got a windows digital licence (for windows 10) if that helps. I've got a cheap camera and uni work has some programming and excell type stuff
that win 10 license is REALLY good to have, as I said, 120 ish pound good
as for wifi, is that a need or not?
wifi is not necessary
cool, then the second build I listed is a good start, but wait for Juniors verdict, he can work some serious magic
ok - thanks
Solid build from Left. Here’d be my recommendation https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/pw9DJWvQ9S/

Happy to explain choices If need be!
Thanks - can I ask why you suggest the 6700 instead of the 6650?
in short, significantly more GPU horsepowers
you go from about 80 FPS on average to 90 FPS at 1080 ultra settings
if you can swing the expense, I'd say go for it, if not, then mine is the way to go, except maybe a beefier cooler,
It’s faster- and cheaper, for some reason 😂
you sure?
I didn’t see the 8 change to a 9 🙃
@north parcel Here's a re-configure of my build that brings it back into budget (: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/HMD09GFvza/

basically mine, except cooler and PSU
And mobo and storage
ah, prime over tuf, and less storage
either way, suggestions are there, Pual has a firing neuron or two so can see what he likes, pick and choose maybe hake his own changes
Thanks for the suggestions. This might be a stupid question but would there be room for my old 1TB HDD as a document storage drive in the case as well?
