#I need help on my pc build as i dont know what to choose!

#

this build comes out to £760 but if theres any adjustments that will improve the pc by a large amount for not too much more, please give suggestions 🙂

errant oracle
#

what case did you pick?

thick leaf
errant oracle
#

I am at work, so no need to ping me when you get impatient, I can take a better look at when I ahve the chance

thick leaf
#

i didnt know that?if u saw it, sorry to intterupt your work, thank you

strange sphinx
#

Also adding the name of the case can make it easier rather than having to work out which one is is by image 🙂

strange sphinx
#

But yeah many of us do have work to do so pop in and out when we can 🙂

thick leaf
#

thanks for letting me know! just changed it too

tender stratus
thick leaf
thick leaf
thick leaf
#

it doesnt come out like that for me

strange sphinx
#

Put the link in Junior, I got it to 800, but I prolly misclicked/misread something (edit: I found out what it was - got it down to exactly 783 as above)

thick leaf
#

Is this good?

#

i just swapped the proccessor to 5500 and changed the ram to corsair vengence instead of the regular ram

tender stratus
thick leaf
#

thats changed stuff from the old pc i made

tender stratus
#

I'm implying you take the WHOLE build btw, not just swap the 5500 and 6600

thick leaf
#

why?

#

jw

tender stratus
#

coz I've saved in areas and spent in areas to give you FAR better performance

thick leaf
#

theres little things i need in my old build

#

like better wifi

#

and better power supply

#

also i wanted an rgb strip

strange sphinx
#

Juniors PSU choice is better, and at your budget extra RGB is just wasting money

thick leaf
#

so if i make ur changes i comes out way too much

tender stratus
#

wifi makes sense.... the psu in mine is literally better and when you're spending 750, get as much performance as you can for your money, don't waste it on lights

thick leaf
#

im just new to pcs so i need to understand y this is better

thick leaf
tender stratus
#

if you wanna say no to that performance jump for led's be my guest

thick leaf
#

but spending £800 on a pc built by somone online that i dont know when my brother made a good one which many ppl have confirmed is a hard decision, its only cause i dont know alot about pcs and ive saved up for so long

#

is it possible u explain it

strange sphinx
#

Well that image shows how much better the RX6600 is than the GTX1650 your brother selected for graphics cards

tender stratus
thick leaf
strange sphinx
thick leaf
#

my bad

#

im so confused on what to do now

#

do i just take your link and make the little adjustments i need like wifi?

strange sphinx
#

That is the easiest way top do it 🙂

thick leaf
#

also would it be better with better processor cooling

thick leaf
#

u 2 junior, thanks alot

tender stratus
#

No worries, i understand the stress, but also just taking what some randomer on the internet says as verbatim 😂 If you have a look through basically any of the spec threads, I'm involved in pretty much all of them- Rakk has known be for 2 years or so? I'd like to think that I know what I'm on about and that they can vouch for me not trying to screw people over, I'll post some more performance stuff so you know I'm telling the truth

thick leaf
#

@tender stratus there isnt a storage drive in ur build

tender stratus
thick leaf
#

it doesnt come up when i go on the link

tender stratus
strange sphinx
#

The link worked fine for me
And yes as Junior said he's helped a whole bunch of people spec up PC's and is always right on the ball with them 🙂

thick leaf
#

so the m.2ssd drive is like a storage drive?

tender stratus
tender stratus
#

it just connects directly to the motherboard instead of needing wires

thick leaf
#

ahhh

#

wait so not the 5500, the 3600

strange sphinx
#

If you need more storage later on it can easily be added when needed as well

thick leaf
#

yeh, 1t should be enough

thick leaf
#

like it wont effect the compatability or anyhting

tender stratus
thick leaf
#

okay

#

ill send the link of the adjustments i made in a min

#

if u can check them that would be great

tender stratus
#

Sure

thick leaf
#

wrong one

tender stratus
#

Chuck the anti-virus, otherwise 👌

thick leaf
#

how come?

errant oracle
#

Windows defender is all you need

thick leaf
#

how much is that

errant oracle
#

AV used to be a good thing, kinda, but now windows defender is just as good at protecting, doesn't add system overhead, and is all part and parcel of windows itslef

thick leaf
#

so its free

errant oracle
#

si

strange sphinx
#

Yes, it comes with Windows

thick leaf
#

alr

#

does it matter which browser i choose

#

even though im gonna use opera gx anyway

strange sphinx
#

Nope, doesnt matter

thick leaf
#

alr

#

also is 550 power good

errant oracle
#

it's enough, future upgrade might need a bigger PSU, but for now it's plenty

thick leaf
#

alr

#

this is my final build so far

#

any other minor changes/reccommnedations or is it good

#

i need this pc to run gta, rocket league, red dead, smoothly, is it capable of that

errant oracle
#

it will run smoothly, setting dependent, obviously 2k is out of the question, but high 1080 should be quite comfortable

thick leaf
#

alr thanks

#

what do you mean by setting dependant

#

when i get the pc what do i have to do?

errant oracle
#

don't crank everything to ultra, medium to high on most settings best for performance

thick leaf
#

ok thanks

#

also, i have a ps5 controller, that will connect to the pc right??

errant oracle
#

I think you'll have to use the cable, last I tried it was highly temperamental via BT

thick leaf
#

cable is fine, less input lag then too!

#

thanks for all the help

tender stratus
thick leaf
#

okay

#

apparently gforce is way better than radeon for gaming

errant oracle
#

yes and no. the price/performance is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better with AMD, the 3060 is roughly the same as the 6600(6600 is slightly less pwoerful), but the 6600 is FAR cheaper

thick leaf
#

okay thanks

errant oracle
#

AMD GPU's also tend to need less powerful power supplies, which helps with your budget quite a bit

thick leaf
#

and u sure theres no point upgrading from a ryzen 5 3600 cpu to a 5500. its only £8 difference

errant oracle
#

speeds are the same, but the 3600 has more cache, so is better at face value

thick leaf
#

Im going to be getting my first ever gaming pc this weekend perhaps, i have created it with people on this server of my budget of £800, the build is below and my use of the pc will be to play rocket league, gta 5m, red dead r2, and many other games, can i get a confirmation from a few people if this build will be perfect for my needs and be able to run smoothly and fast for the games above! thanks for all the build help, alex

solar remnant
#

For under £800, you're not getting anything better.

thick leaf
#

alr

tender stratus
# thick leaf

Looks awesome! Although would really encourage switching to the 650W if you can afford the few extra £ its well worth it

thick leaf
#

ok, thanks

thick leaf
#

the 100rgb v3 series for £28 is out of stock!! What do i pick? The coolmaster hyper for £42??

solar remnant
#

Or you could go with the AMD stock cooler. It'll do a perfectly adequate job for gaming and you could always upgrade it later if you wanted to make the system quieter or found you were overheating in some scenarios...

thick leaf
#

but would the £42 one work well??

#

Is it worth it as my room already gets hot without a pc

solar remnant
#

It won't make any difference to the heat of your room. Actually a better cooler, if anything, will make your room hotter, as its job is to transfer heat from the CPU to the surrounding air.

#

But yes, the Hyper 212 will do a perfectly good job

errant oracle
#

the non rgb version would do as well, sure it doesn't have that awful rainbow vomit, but looks like it's available

#

btw, Snipping tool is your friend, don't neglect it

thick leaf
#

im using my phone :))

#

i dont have a pc, thats y im getting one 😂

solar remnant
#

Can be hard screenshotting an open menu as well

errant oracle
thick leaf
#

I took a photo, next time ill snip

#

i didnt think of using dc on my laptop

thick leaf
#

JUST ORDERED MY FIRST EVER GAMING PC!!! Im so excited and i cant wait, thanks for all the help!!!!!

errant oracle
#

just a heads up, the processing stage can take some time, since you ordered on a sunday they gotta go through the new orders since the finance/accounting team stopped for the week on friday

thick leaf
#

so it could be 2 weeks?

#

Or more

#

as long is its arrived before 2 weeks its np, if its longer then oh well, preferably 2 weeks tho

high rover
strange sphinx
#

Well the current average looks to be 11 working days (rounding up)

errant oracle
#

the entire process is 2-3 actual weeks, depending on a lot of things, gotta be aware, working days are mo-fr

tender stratus
thick leaf
#

alr

#

thanks

tender stratus
#

Again- working days, so about 2 and a bit weeks for dispatch

thick leaf
#

Yep

thick leaf
#

ive got a 60hz monitor atm, is the 144hz worth the upgrade, ive just bought a gaming pc so ive only got like £120 left

errant oracle
#

the 6600 can't get to 144 fps to make 144hz worthwhile, not without dropping the graphics settings noticeably, but a 120hz might be worth looking into, it still would struggle to hit 120 but it's less of a visual hit

#

if you look here, the 6600 is about 70fps at 1080 ultra

tender stratus
thick leaf
#

Ok

#

Thanks

#

At the moment i have a Samsung m5 27” smart monitor

#

Thats the box

thick leaf
#

is that good for my pc?

errant oracle
#

it's 60hz, serviceable, but not ideal as a main monitor if you intend to make use of more than 60FPS

thick leaf
#

Alr, is it good as a second monitor

errant oracle
#

larger than I personally like, but other than my personal taste I think it is perfect

thick leaf
#

Alr thanks

#

Do i need a monitor arm to put it sideways, and do u recommend a monitor arm that can hold both monitors or one

#

i want my main monitor to be normal and then have sideways on on the left

errant oracle
#

you most likely will, most stock monitor stands don't allow for much if any rotation

#

as for monitor arms, @ruby beacon has one he can recommend

thick leaf
#

Alr thanks

ruby beacon
#

i got this you can possibly get something like it

thick leaf
#

Can u put 1 monitor sideways and 1 noramlly??

strange sphinx
#

If you want to yes

#

In the Display Options you get this choice for each monitor

ruby beacon
thick leaf
#

Bet

thick leaf
#

My pc is in building stage now!! Do you think i could get it by this weekend??

#

if its built in 1 or 2 days, tested in 1 and sent out by Friday it could arrive on Friday or sat

#

if i dont get it this weekend i have to wait 2 weeks 😬 not too long but knowing the pc will be waiting will make me very anxious aha

high rover
#

Building takes only a couple of hours. Testing a day or more. Then awaiting dispatch
Doubt you'll get it before the end of the week

thick leaf
#

okay

#

nevermind 🙂

#

it said next day delivery tho

#

also end of week is fine, just as long as it arrives on the weekend

ruby beacon
#

believe that’s monday to friday unless you picked weekend

thick leaf
#

even so if not its bot a big problem

thick leaf
ruby beacon
#

more expensive i think so if you didn’t pay you don’t get i think it’s how it works

thick leaf
#

ohh fe

tender stratus
#

Yeah. Would be looking at early next week realistically

thick leaf
#

thats fine, will have to wait another 2 weeks but im still so happy ive got my first gaming pc

thick leaf
#

its in testing!!

#

if im rlly lucky they might dispatch it tmmr!

#

🤞🤞🤞🤞

#

im so excited, cant wait to get that pc

#

any pc tips ???

errant oracle
#

and don't go downloading any antovirus programs, Windows Defender is just as good, and don't slow down the PC additionally

thick leaf
#

Okay. Thanks alot!

thick leaf
#

It was testing all yesterday and its still testing, do u think it could be delivered today?

tender stratus
thick leaf
#

okay

thick leaf
#

My pc arrived!!! I wont get to use it for A week and a bit but im so glad it came!! Thank you to anyone who helped me to build it!

tender stratus
#

Why can’t you use it for a week??

thick leaf
#

not down at my mums! I only go to hers every 2 weeks

#

But i got this pc carry case so i can bring it down to my dads too

solar remnant
#

Awesome news – and when you have it set up, pictures are needed in #690178827875516450 !

thick leaf
#

I will do 🙂

errant oracle
#

I'd recommend against constantly moving the PC around, it's not exactly good for it, things shake loose, or worse break free

thick leaf
#

the pc case was £60 and my stepbrother has used it for years, i will be extremely careful with it! And in the car i was make sure it cant move

#

That is the carry case!

solar remnant
#

The biggest concerns moving a PC about are the graphics card and CPU cooler. What did you end up with?

errant oracle
#

even those 2 major issues aside, the case can easily take a hit, any glass might break, and heaven forbid the case warps just wrong so the MoBo takes just enough yoga classes to bend and break

thick leaf
#

What am I supposed to do when i live at two places? Any suggestions 🙂

errant oracle
#

learn to do without I guess, distance makes the fart much stronger, or was it the heart grow fonder? I personally would rather go without than risk my PC meating the silicon pearly gates before it's time

solar remnant
#

People take their PCs to LAN parties (well, they did when I was growing up). You'll be OK to do it a certain extent, but you do need to be super careful. The good news is that you have a light cooler and a fairly small graphics card, so they won't be flapping around inside the case, which is the worst scenario

errant oracle
#

if you absolutely must move the PC constantly, keep the packing foam and have it available to reinsert it if possible

thick leaf
#

if the carry case is big enough

#

if its already tight in there it will be fine

#

its got padding all around it

#

but if theres room for it to move ill make sure to put the foam there

errant oracle
#

the packing foam I mean is the expanding foam that is put inside the PC for transport to minimize the GPU and cooler flopping around

solar remnant
#

Maybe. I'd be a bit wary of putting it in and out in case you do more damage with it, e.g. to cabling.

errant oracle
#

true, if it slides out easy it should slide back in easy too, but it's all theory crafting right now anyway

thick leaf
#

also do i need to worry about the pc being on my desk?

errant oracle
#

it's best practice to have the PC on a desk or other platform off the floor, just to keep it from dust and dirt and possible pets

thick leaf
#

Okay!

#

Yes, i have a cat but i never let him on my desk, unless he chooses too because if u have a cat u would understand its their choice not urs 😂

errant oracle
#

I had a cat, and yeah, cat's do what they want, but you will want to make it very ceal that the cat does not belong on top of the PC, for one risk of toppling the PC over and killing it, getting hair, danger and whatnot in the PC, killing it, or using the PC as a litter box, and if you guessed, killing it you get an internet cookie

thick leaf
#

😂 thanks

thick leaf
#

also do you recommend a headset? Im stuck between the hyper x cloud II or the razer kraken lightweight

#

Or another if u can recommend

#

Also sorry, last question, is a coiled cable worth it or nah?

#

I can’t wait to use my pc too, this week is killing me

errant oracle
#

got a budget? because the one I would recommend ain't cheap

thick leaf
#

kind of yeah, like £80 max

#

What is it, maybe i could get in future

errant oracle
#

as for coiled cables, they aren't IMO, makes it tidier when not in use and not plugged in, but they always vaguely felt like they were pulling me and I hated it

#
thick leaf
#

£54 isnt too much

#

why these?

errant oracle
#

they fit your budget mostly, and despite my joking about logitech audio equipment having been trash in the past, they are actually quite good now

thick leaf
#

also i had that type of mic before on my old headset……

thick leaf
#

what do u think abt the 2 headsets i was on abt? Are they good too?

errant oracle
#

that turtle beach?

thick leaf
#

Razer Kraken Gaming Headset: Lightweight Aluminum Frame - Retractable Noise Isolating Microphone - For PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S, Mobile - 3.5 mm Headphone Jack - Classic Black https://amzn.eu/d/6nRTVBG

thick leaf
errant oracle
#

as for the 2 you said, I don't like the brands, so anything I ahve to say is not to be taken seriously

thick leaf
#

ah fair enough

#

that was my old one

#

ive superglued and taped it so it still works fine but if it breaks i want one available to order

errant oracle
#

I used to love turtle beach, but then I switched to SteelSeries, and never went back

#
#

I had the Arctis 7, but they are similar in terms of how they look, and if you wear glasses they are still quite comfortable

thick leaf
#

I dont but who nows in the future😬

#

they look nice tbf

#

i might have to invest in them when my current breaks

#

Why is the white £45 but black is £75

errant oracle
#

lools mostly, many folks prefer the black headphones over the white just generally, partly due to PC cases being black/dark for the most part

thick leaf
#

ohh

#

also is there any must have accessories that are useful or look amazing for a pair price that u could maybe suggest? I got a 60% kbrd atm, a mousemat, pc in a week, 60hz monitor,

#

that’s about it

errant oracle
#

you'll want a monitor with a higher refresh most likely, that mostly depends on the FPS you get, but as for accessories, maybe a headset stand? many accessories for PCs are not much use, if you were getting a lpatops I'd be recommending a cooling stand and a USB hub immediately

thick leaf
#

Wait whats a cooling stand, sorry im so useless with tech

#

i have 3 ubs from my laptop so i should be fine, if i dont have enough from my pc ill get one for that

errant oracle
#

the reason why a USB hub is good for a laptop is with a headset, mouse and keyboard, all 3/4 USBs that most laptops have, you haven't much left if you need to plug in something like a thumb drive or anything else

thick leaf
thick leaf
#

And i dont use a headset, if i do its got a hole thing for that

#

shall i sent what laptop i have too or?

errant oracle
#

nah laptops don't need too much for accessories, as for the cooling stand, yeah, all it does is help the laptops own cooler out, and if you intend to use the laptop in bed, keeps the vents clear from the linens so it can breath properly

thick leaf
#

ahh okay, is the one you u sent good or shall i have a look?

errant oracle
#

look for one that fits you best, no point in having a massive 17" stand, when your laptop is an itty bitty 12" model, assuming sizes here, and look to see if the fans would be where the air ducts are on the bottom of the laptop, no point in having air blown at a "wall" doing precious little to help cool the machine

thick leaf
#

true!

#

thanks for all your help!!

errant oracle
#

de nada, bill is in the mail, payment was due 6 weeks agoi

thick leaf
#

It was £430 i think

#

ohhh

#

sorry

#

there

#

but its 15.6” thats all u need to know

#

so ill look for a cooling stand now, is it a must have for summer?

errant oracle
#

cooling stands are never a "must" but are a good thing to have to help thermals and noise

thick leaf
#

okay, once again, appreciate all ur help, wouldn’t have been able to make my setup if it wasn’t for u!

thick leaf
#

im gonna open my package in about 2 hours!!! Cant wait! Once fully set up will send a photo of the current room
