@tardy beacon Thoughts on that? Ideally I would have less RGB as not a fan

#

Also worth mentioning the 250gb m.2 is only there as I already have a ssd ready.

#

current price is lower then budget for wiggle room

lavish lion
#

drop the 1st m.2 for a 1st storage drive and take the poxy little 128gb PCS branded SSD to save a quid or 3

#

you did only take a drive as a place hold/because it's required right?#

short lily
#

scrap the anit virus too please 😁

covert needle
lavish lion
#

its not like the anti virus costs anything, and I think PCS add it without realizing sometimes

short lily
#

no cost just extra effort to install it on pcs works just to be uninstalled by you at home

covert needle
lavish lion
#

here's a modification to save you a few quid, I changed the MoBo for a non wifi model and added a wifi card to make up for it, saves you some money too that you could invest elsewhere

short lily
#

@covert needle do you need wifi card?

#

nvm dr done it

covert needle
#

Wifi will most likely be needed

tardy beacon
#

I wouldn't drop down to a Prime board from Strix

#

Strix>Tuf>Prime

#

I would ask why you're looking at AM4 vs AM5? Or even a DDR4 Intel 13th Gen?

covert needle
#

is DDR5 a massive increase for gaming?

tardy beacon
#

Right now, there's not a lot of performance difference. But if you want longevity, the AM5 platform gives that. The 5800X3D is the best CPU you can get on AM4, there's not upgrade options above that.

#

Having said all that, it's a great CPU and you won't be bottlenecked by it at 1440 or 4K for quite some time.

#

What is Guernsey VAT rate btw?

#

0%?

covert needle
#

0%

covert needle
tardy beacon
#

👍

#

You don't need OS?

covert needle
#

no as I will be removing the HDD to install my m.22 ssd

naive zodiac
#

Not related but how is your VAT 0%?

silk elk
#

Cos they are in Guernsey

tardy beacon
#

Tax Haven 😛

covert needle
tardy beacon
#

And air cooling over AIO?

covert needle
silk elk
#

AIO's are now-a-days very reliable

tardy beacon
#

I'd pick the cheapest cooler PCS have then and get good one elsewhere and fit when build arrives

Looks good

dreamy storm
#

I'd get a 500GB SSD. personally

tardy beacon
#

He's replacing the drive with SSDs he already has

dreamy storm
#

and 1TB-2TB secondary SSD

tardy beacon
#

Gen4 1Tb I think

dreamy storm
#

ah okay

covert needle
#

Yeah I have got my own storage. Is the 16GB ram enough?

#

would 32GB be overkill?

dreamy storm
#

16GB Ram is fine for gaming

tardy beacon
#

I have 16GB and it never comes close to it in gaming

covert needle
#

sound!

lavish lion
#

16 is fine, and will be for a year or so I guess, thn you might want to look into upping it as AAA games start hogging more and more resources

short lily
#

i’ve heard newer games are starting to use more ram

tardy beacon
#

For air cooling, I'd rec Noctua cos I'm a fan boi, but Deepcool and Thermaltake make some great air coolers these days

naive zodiac
#

There's some games that take 16

covert needle
#

Ill be playing mostly D4 when it comes out this year

tardy beacon
#

If you run mods in MSFS and Mindcraft, then yes, 32GB helps

#

but most games, no

naive zodiac
#

But I think there badly optimised

tardy beacon
#

And he can add RAM later if it gets to that

covert needle
naive zodiac
#

That's the neat part

tardy beacon
#

We're seeing 32GB as the norm for DDR5, but for DDR4, rec is still 16GB

#

(for gaming)

naive zodiac
#

I haven't seen ddr4 and ddr5 comparison since ddr5 got introdu ed , is it faster or performs similar?

tardy beacon
#

Similar

covert needle
#

Well I think that last link is pretty much it right!

tardy beacon
#

Nah just wait until your ready to order and let’s see what’s changed in terms of availability and pricing….

lavish lion
#

keep both the link and the parts list, just incase the link expires by then

covert needle
#

Will do thanks guys!

covert needle
#

One thing that I will need to look at getting once this PC is done will be a new monitor. Ideally I will be wanting a 1440p 144hz monitor and 34inch curved. Does anyone have any recommendations. Not sure on budget for the monitor at this moment in time.

stoic grove
#

Do you mean an ultrawide? Probably looking at £500+ on that, but there are quite a few good options

covert needle
#
stoic grove
#

Personally I wouldn't go curved: the best monitors (especially the IPS ones) aren't. I'd be inclined to suggest the Acer XV340CK or the Gigabyte M34WQ, both of which are flatscreen IPS options.

#

If you definitely want the curve (which means accepting a VA panel), the AOC one is indeed a good bet, but the Dell S3422DWG is only a bit more expensive and quite a bit better.
