#Trying to find best specs for £1600
133 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Would you be able to provide us with your budget uses and monitor?
I already have a monitor keyboard and mouse
My budget shouldn’t go over 1,300 in the worst case
What’s the monitor?
And what are you using it for?
Just a Samsung smart TV can support 4k but nothing too fancy
Casual gaming
I heard the motherboard I selected had intergrated Wi-Fi
Did some research and gigabyte says it does
That’s why I didn’t select a Wi-Fi card
I plan to change the 1x pcs 32gb ram to 2x 16 Corsair ram with a 334 megahertz increase, change the power supply to a gold standard psu with 650 watts and potentially upgrade the graphics card to a 16 gb rtx 2060 instead of 6gb
What exactly are you playing? Anything modded or especially intensive?
And do you mean the 12GB 3060 instead of the 2060? There’s no 16GB RTX card
No not the 3060, the most demanding game I play might be the new call of duty game that just came out
I think it was an 8 gb 2060
If 1300 is worst case, what are you ideally looking to spend?
I do not mind paying 1300
But that is my budget limit
What is the availability of the RTX 3050?
Or is it worth going for the 3060?
This is what I’d recommend https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/xCzHuBYk4P/
-You haven’t included the case which is actually quite a vital part of the spec. I’ve gone for the Spectrum G which is a good budget choice with good airflow and some RGB
-5600 is a FAR better CPU than the 5600G and my current recommendation for a gaming system at this price tier
-Yes your motherboard is nice but it’s incredibly expensive for the budget so that money would be better spent elsewhere. The one I’ve selected also has wifi
-Faster RAM, vital for an AMD CPU
-3060TI is probably 3 performance tiers above the 2060 and a great GPU
- Stuck with a single 1TB SSD for now. If you want a boot drive I’d recommend a 500Gb drive
-FAR better power supply that should let you upgrade into the future
-FF100 will more than amply cool the 5600 and looks better imo
Dumped the anti virus and updated to the silver warranty, all comes to £1,250

I made a few adjustments, nothing major added a 1tb Samsung drive and a 560 corsair both ssd a graphics card bracket because speed bumps during delivery, better thermal paste since it was 5 quid more expensive and seems like a worthy investment
Also removed the ssd that you had originally chose because I need the space lol
As for the motherboard compared to the one I had originally chosen how much performance loss would I have to deal with in between the two?
@wise heron sorry for the tag
Did it go into pre-production?
Checked all orders and on brackets it says processing
Anyway @wise heron I will save the picture and remember my few tweaks thank you very much and have a wonderful New Year’s party
If you click on the link it will take you to that exact configuration
I have one more question
The motherboard I originally chose, does it have integrated Wi-Fi? In the selection it doesn’t say it has Wi-Fi I choose a card it says it’s too slow and the board has Wi-Fi and so does the gigabyte website
Tbh the idea of my recommendations is you swap your build to that spec. You’ll get FAR more performance with my spec (it’s probably a 50-60% performance increase from the 2060 to3060TI plus the gains from the RAM) and not to mention my build is far more suited to future upgrades. It’s up to you at the end of the day and it’s your money but I’d emplore you to make the changes I’ve recommended
Wouldn’t the more expensive motherboard increase performance more than the one you chose?
That’s the only change I want to make other than the better thermal paste and graphics card support bracket in case the delivery driver runs over a speed bump the GC won’t rip out of its socket
No. Unless you go for such a bad motherboard the VRM's can't cope with the CPU in there (which the B550 AORUS won't) a motherboard doesn't affect performance at all.
The stock thermal paste is perfectly fine and the bracket has nothing to do with delivery, it's to stop large GPU sagging over time, which a mid tier card won't
And as for breathing room for upgrades? Will this motherboard remain upgradable for a few years at least?
The board I've chosen will happily support a 5800X3D which is really the only upgrade path I'd consider for a gaming PC on AM4
And if I were to go for the mother I originally chose does that motherboard have integrated Wi-Fi? I’m willing to pay a bit more for a newer motherboard as long as it has Wi-Fi
I’m thinking longer term with upgrades so a better motherboard will go a long way
Both the one you picked and the one I picked have integrated WiFi. The X570 board is actually older, it released before the B550 chipset, just the X-70 range is considered higher end.
The one I've picked will handle the 5800X3D which is all you need to worry about. The AM4 platform is end of life, so we won't see any new CPU's on that platform. the 5800X3D is the best CPU that you'll be able to put in there
When did I say that? The 5600 is still by far the best bang for buck CPU in your pricepoint
Could I change the setup to nividia when I amend the order?
You didn’t just looking for longevity
Nvidia is the graphics card not the CPU
Oh right sorry
Yeah, AMD CPU, NVIDIA GPU
So if the am4 is end of life then when the latest cpu does not cut it in 5 years or so I will have to change the motherboard?
There should be a motherboard out there for am4 when the time comes?
Am5 I mean
Did some research am5 isn’t out yet so it won’t need an upgrade for a while so it looks good
Should I stick with amd ryzen cpus for the long term they seem more powerful for the money as you said
But in 5 years time, you'll have a 5600 and you can upgrade to a 5800X3D for a massive performance boost
What is your source? AM5 has been available for months
What Junior suggested is a perfectly good build for your budget, obviously different budgets would lead to different choices, but given you have a set budget that suggestion will be your best bet
Godamn I’ve been an idiot the source was dated February not November
And before you ask, no you shouldn't go AM5, the platform prices are too high and DDR5 RAM would eat far too much into your budget
Yea that’s my budget a 4000 pound pc on the highest end is very good
As long as the megahertz of the Corsair ram remain over 3000 it should be more than enough
3200 for AMD
TLDR you should buy this build
Well I will wait for the order to be available to amend and I will change it to your specs, also going to need more storage so I’ll add a 1tb ssd to it because games are taking massive amounts of storage space
I think the extra 40 pounds will be worth it
Do remember that storage can always easily be added later if you need to wait for adding that
£73 for the 1TB SSD, no?
for 1TB? Are you sure?
It does not matter if it is 73 pounds if the storage space is necessary and not optional I have no choice
There's already 1TB in there, why don't you start with that and add more later
Need a second one for the OS and core files just makes it tidy a small ssd
I think Corsair has a 250 or is it the pcspecialist one?
It’s only an extra 30 quid in that case
do you want a seperate boot drive?
What?
The specs
Tried to show you it
Everything is the same for core components
You know more about those than me
Press proceed then screenshot the following screen?
I can tell you what I changed
LIke this
I just added a 250gb drive changed the paste added the bracket chose a more powerful cooler added extra case fans and argb double strip
I think this is a great end product
Press proceed, then press post to forum, then copy the green link and share it here
Ok
Sorry I’m taking so long I clicked off by mistake
So 2tb ssd storage for several games on steam and for the OS a 250gb ssd an improved cooler extra case fans and better thermal paste
you're spending monumental amounts on storage but it's your money, do what you wanna do
I know the 2 tb ssd is necessary due to having a lot of games on steam
Also is cooler master the better option over the frost flow 200 series?
I tend to trust a familiar cooler brand
but you don't need one that's £180, go for one of the PCS drives, more than fast enough and way more suited to your budget price wise
the 100 beats the cooler master in testing, it's just slightly louder
You also don't need the 2 extra fans, there's already 4 in that case, that's more than enough
How have you made a £1250 spec £1600
Increasing the budget lol
Then it throws the intial parts we pick out of whack
a 5600 and 3060TI is now terrible value for £1600
Wait wait ok I agree the extra fans are not needed
The more powerful cooler is for keeping the cpu cool under heavy load
The 2 tb storage is for the ton of games I have
Which is why advice has been given - that you seem to be ignoring some of
I need to find the right balance now of graphics card and cooler
Speaking of I heard the 3060 was originally a nightmare to get but I do not know if that is still the case?
All 30 series cards were a nightmare to get hold of originally, most shoudl not now have issues
Ok I will work on the specs and get back in 10 mins
But yes if it is now a 1600 budget, there would probably be much different changes than the ones that were suggested to keep it close to 1300
So what is your actual budget?
1600 max
I was being stingy with a 1300 budget
How is this?
The 3070 TI was out of my price range so I went for the regular 3070
Wait I can improve apon it
How about this?
I think I did a good job with it
The only thing is will the pcspecialist ssd slow down the system?
The OS will be installed on it
Is it good? I need your opinion, I did my best
