Hello, everyone, new poster here, 🙂
I've been having a lot of trouble getting a Clone Army origin off the ground on a huge galaxy. I basically hit the clone pop cap very soon on my three initial planets, but that's not nearly enough to have a decent economy by the time I finally find other empires.
I've played a number of different games on this already, with moderate success, and I've been upping the difficulty level gradually every time I get a decent win.
I've won with the two default human empires, with a megacorp, with driven assimilators, with the remnants origin, and with a couple of other races I created, and now I was trying my hand at the clones in a huge galaxy on admiral.
I guess it could be that it's combination of settings that just doesn't work well, but there's a lot of people out there saying the Clone Army is currently one of the strongest origins in the game, so it should be at least feasible.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. 🙂

there's three ways to go
- descend and you will only keep a slight buff from the clone descendant trait but your pops can grow naturally beyond your former limit (do it especially when you're nearing or at your full capacity)
- ascend and get even more buffs out of the clone ascendant trait but remain unable to grow your pops beyond the limit (quality over quantity, which means you're probably going to need something to supplement your workforce)
- get the improved cloning ascension
Regarding option 2 without 3, getting a bunch of robots and having some citizen species that aren't your own will help a fair bit.
improved cloning ascension?
Ascension is a long way away for me. I'm usually half way through my second tradition when I finally meet other empires, and they usually have five or six planets and their economy and tech level are way ahead of mine. And robots as a tech is also not that easy to get into in time.
I'm ok with certain combinations leading to slow starts and with having to manage those early decades before my economy finally takes over the AI, but I was expecting the clone army economy to get off the ground quickly, and it just doesn't, or maybe I'm just not rushing it correctly...
