#Card Shark: Soft Lock during painting training on Switch

Hello!

I’m enjoying playing Card Shark very much on my Switch, but just encountered a game breaking bug that prevents me from moving forward. Here’s the details:

Card Shark Version: 1.36.2207081544 (latest version in the eShop as of 1/20/23)
Switch OS Version: 15.0.1 (Current release)
Description: While playing the tutorial on “painting” cards I’m prompted to paint cards, then “Sticky Hands” select a low card. After this the view shifts to that of the character dealing. After dealing the first card the game takes control and deals the rest until it abruptly stops.

At this point no input is accepted except to jump to the “reminder | strategies | options” screen. I can also quit back to the Switch launcher with the Home button. Otherwise the game isn’t interactable.

I’ve attached a screen capture video of what this looks like. At the time the dealing stops I’m pressing every button on the controller but nothing happens in-game.

The bug mirrors almost exactly the description in this post (https://steamcommunity.com/app/1371720/discussions/0/3597842130148966451/) on Steam from Nov 2022.

Also, I was required to tag my post before submitting but the only two options were iOS or Android. This bug is being reported for Switch but could be on other platforms based on the above link.

I hope this is all helpful and can be used to track down + fix the bug causing this. This game is uniquely great and hopefully once the bug is fixed I can go deeper into it.

Game broke while learning the painter :: Card Shark General Discuss...

Self explanatory. During the deal, right after painting the cards, the game automatically dealed to everyone then softlocked.

Does it happen consistently and were you eventually able to progress forward in the game?

It happens consistently. I’ve tried restarting the game and the console and playing in docked and handheld mode. Every time it fails her. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to progress; I fear the only way to do so would be a total restart with no guarantee that the big won’t reoccur.

We know about the bug but haven't been able to replicate consistently so haven't identified the exact issue.

I've told the devs that you are getting it consistently and maybe this will help solve it

Handheld is the joycons attached, docked is with a Pro Controller.

Have you tried "Restart Scene" or "Restart from Map"?

Pause the game and in Options, hold the minus button

Restart Scene will go to the start of that Scene and Restart from Map will start it from the beginning of the chapter

Ok, I finally got some time to test out your suggestions @chrome mason.

  • On a cold boot of the game I played from my save and the bug did not occur (!). I was able to manually deal to each player at the table.
  • Just to test things I used your suggested method and “Restart from Map” then selected the Baths again. Once I got together table to deal the bug reoccurred and the game soft locked.
  • I did a “Restart Scene” next and the bug reoccurred, soft locking after the auto dealing at the table.
  • I “Quit to Title” then “Close Software” at the Switch launcher, relaunched the game and started my save. The bug happened this time too.
  • Finally, I did a hard quit of the game from the Switch launcher without exiting to the title screen, relaunched, and the bug reoccurred.

So oddly enough it actually worked the first time, but all other tries the bug happened and soft locked the game again. Super weird! Let me know what else I can do to help track this down.

Hey, so one of the devs took a look at the bug today and isn't sure why it could be very reliably reproduced but only to certain people.

We know that similar kinds of bugs happen to a few people, but the majority do not encounter it which makes it very curious...

I think for now, if you'd just like to try to finish the game, trying again until the bug doesn't happen is your best bet.

No problem! I know how hard this can be, especially without logs or dumps to work from. Hopefully if anybody else sees this issue in the future they will see this thread and know they’re not crazy 😊

I’ll cross my fingers that I get past the bug eventually and can enjoy the game. Thank you for checking this out for me.

Hi, I'm having the same problem, but on steam, I tried with gamepad, with mouse, restarting from map, restarting from scene and nothing, the game stops after dealing

Is there anything I can do? I don't want to start the game over again and see if it happens again

Maybe I can upload the saved data? I also tried restarting from map, going to play the "free game" once and returning and the problem still exists
